00:00All right, the Astros on this Monday, Clint,
00:04they get going here in exactly an hour from now
00:07as they are in a four-game set with the Mariners,
00:10and Clint, they have lost the first three.
00:13And they are looking, God, dog,
00:15I think the last time we were on the air,
00:17maybe last week sometimes,
00:18we came on here during the day game
00:20trying to hope for them to avoid another sweep.
00:22And that did not happen.
00:24That was a 9-1 loss to the Rockies.
00:25They're looking to avoid a sweep.
00:27I got to go to the resident psychopath.
00:31Get to the mic, Tyler.
00:33Where are you at right now with your Astros?
00:37There's nobody more optimistic than Tyler Milner.
00:40Again, coming out of the Jack Easterby years,
00:44he found 10 wins on that schedule.
00:48I can't remember what bar we were at.
00:49We were somewhere downtown.
00:51We got to go again.
00:51It was a really beautiful spot.
00:53But you found 10 wins the year after that.
00:56But they're 6-10 right now.
00:59It is early, just 16 games, 5-5 in the AL West.
01:03They've lost seven straight,
01:04currently 1-8 on this road trip right now.
01:06Luckily, nobody's running away with it in the West.
01:10But, Tyler, you're as optimistic as it comes.
01:14It's 16 games out of 162.
01:17Like, are you in the, hey, guys, it's early.
01:21Are we still saying it's early?
01:23And that being legit, obviously it's early.
01:26It is.
01:27But do you still feel like it's early and not to worry about this group?
01:32No, no, no, no.
01:33It's a massive problem.
01:34The pitching in particular.
01:36And when you juxtapose where we're finding the Astros right now,
01:40this disaster, this horrendous start to the season.
01:44It is horrendous.
01:45When you juxtapose that to where we were, like,
01:48remember two years ago when we were sitting around like, man,
01:50this abundance of arms the Astros have, it's almost a problem.
01:54But in a good way, you got all these extra starters.
01:57Yeah, you have injuries.
01:58But, man, the arms, I mean, you got Luis Garcia, you got J.P. France,
02:01you got Eric Getty, you got the regular guys, McCullers at the time,
02:06you had Verlander, all that.
02:07We were talking about the overabundance in arms the Astros had
02:11and what they should do with it, and now you're at a point where literally
02:14you can't put together a start and five rotation really properly
02:19with a healthy guy and the best arms.
02:22You're just in a very, very bad place when it comes to your pitching,
02:25both bullpen and starting.
02:27So I don't know what they're going to do.
02:30Hopefully Dana Brown is maybe on the phone a little bit early in 2026.
02:35I mean, we're really early.
02:36Yeah.
02:37Because if you want any hope, you got to start making moves now
02:40because the pitching is a massive, massive problem
02:43paired along with the health of the team.
02:45Listen, you guys have both been here and seen this.
02:47Shout out to the very late Phil Garner,
02:49but he was there when they put the tombstones on the front of the Chronicle
02:53and they came back and was able to not only come back
02:56but got to a World Series against the White Sox.
02:58And we saw it just a few years ago where they were 12 and 24 in 2024
03:04and they started this thing out.
03:05And with this very manager and a lot of the parts, they were able to get back.
03:13Where are you at?
03:14Is this – are you still in this is too early, it's early, or are you panicked?
03:20I'm never it's early.
03:21I don't give a damn if it is 10 or 162.
03:23I'm never too early.
03:24No, I'm not – I'm having a hard time panicking.
03:28But my dauber's down for sure.
03:30I mean, look, I don't know what – I mean, panic for what?
03:32I mean, it would be one thing if you were completely healthy
03:36and Hunter Brown was struggling along with Abreu
03:38and, you know, you had like – you just – you had guys out there.
03:41If the lineup was struggling along with the pitching, you know, that kind of thing,
03:48I don't – I'm having a hard time kind of deciding as a fan
03:51where I'm at exactly, to be honest with you.
03:53Like, it's hard to not just sit here as a fan and go,
03:56boy, we are snake bit.
03:58We are just snake bit.
04:00It don't matter what they do.
04:01You can't win for losing.
04:03But at the same time, it's – you know, then you come to and you go,
04:08well, I mean, there's – the injuries are so rampant,
04:12you worry about what the team is actually doing with their pitching again.
04:16Yeah.
04:16You know, you worry about, you know, guys like Abreu
04:20who are messing the bed.
04:21You know, how do you – that's what you're saying.
04:24If there are a bunch of Abreus, if Hunter Brown was pitching like Abreu –
04:28Yeah, then I panic.
04:29But, I mean, look, I mean, I just don't know what you can do
04:32with the injuries that are out there.
04:33Like, I'm not overly concerned.
04:35I don't – I mean, like I said before, I think we got better
04:37with the Christian Javier move.
04:39I'm not overly surprised or concerned at all about the MI move.
04:43I mean, it's – you come over here, a big part of those guys coming over here
04:46from Japan is the workload that you actually – you're pitching
04:50when you're not pitching and all the different parts of getting your arm right.
04:55Right, and so I would rather have not hit the first couple of weeks
04:58of the season, but I'm not surprised that at some point there's a level
05:00of fatigue with him that he's not used to.
05:03So, for me, it's not panic as much as it is just, boy, here we go again.
05:07It's hard to not just let that take the wind out of your sails for sure.
05:11It just – it feels different than those other years.
05:14They've got to do some slow starts.
05:17Because I think obviously Hunter Brown and Josh Hader can fix some things,
05:22but I really don't know when them Jokers are going to be back, right?
05:26Like, I really don't know when they're going to be back
05:28and then how quickly they're going to be themselves, right?
05:31Like, are they going to be a month?
05:34What does this look like if you have to go without them for a month?
05:38What is that going to look like?
05:39And then how long before they're completely themselves?
05:42And, Clint, this is – I mean, the pitching like Tyler said.
05:46Do you know – and I can hear Ocho now.
05:49I'd like to interest you in a stat.
05:50I'm not a big stat person.
05:52Did you know, Tyler, that yesterday, Sunday, Logan Gilbert,
05:57the starter for the Seattle Mariners, in the game Sunday, went seven innings,
06:03which is more than the last four starters combined.
06:06And Lance went four and a third, more than the last four starters combined
06:11for the Astros in the last four games.
06:14He gave up four hits.
06:16They've given up ten.
06:17He gave up one earned run.
06:18They've given up 12.
06:19He got seven strikeouts.
06:21The four of them got six.
06:22He had one walk.
06:23The four of them had ten.
06:25Like, this is just – this is kidding.
06:28They're just coming out of the game.
06:29Yeah.
06:29And they're getting injured one by one.
06:31And it's like, I think it would be better.
06:33But, damn.
06:34Like, this is – this is wild.
06:36And then – and then I could just – oh, I could just – I could have felt Tyler
06:40through the television screen when Altuve got picked off at first base
06:45when he should not have got – when he should have been at third.
06:47And I'm telling you, if I'm a catcher, if I'm – if I'm Yiner Diaz,
06:51damn it, that should be your move.
06:53Yiner better run his hand up against the umpire every time someone tries to steal
06:58to make their asses go back.
07:00That should be a move if that's what you can do.
07:02But, I mean, when he got picked off at first base and he didn't move
07:06and just got tagged, I felt –
07:08Oh, reliable.
07:09I felt – you ain't lying.
07:10I felt it.
07:11I felt it from Tyler.
07:12But, damn, man, they just – I mean, this pitching is – it is just insane.
07:18They had, like, 17 walks.
07:20Yeah.
07:20Like, in a two – like, almost a game and a half period.
07:23Well, that's the stat for me that I saw this weekend.
07:27And maybe this has happened before.
07:28I don't know.
07:29But when I read this stat, I thought, this is hard to do.
07:32They are – and I may have this backwards, but you get the point anyway.
07:35They are last in the American League in home runs allowed.
07:42And they are last in all of –
07:44The Bulls have given up 16 themselves.
07:46They are last in all of baseball in walks.
07:50How can you have a problem throwing strikes, but when you do,
07:54everything gets hit out of the park?
07:55Like, that's too – like, hey, man, we may have some –
07:59we may have an old buddy up there that can't hit the strike zone,
08:01but he's hard to hit.
08:03I mean, he's got some wicked stuff.
08:05No, we got guys that can't find the strike zone and can't miss a barrel.
08:09I mean, how is that – how is that a thing?
08:12I mean, they're just walking in runs, like, left and right.
08:15Like, yesterday, I don't even think the Mariners swung the bats well at all.
08:18I mean, Cam Smith threw somebody out at the plate.
08:22Like, everything, it didn't matter, man.
08:24They're just walking guys in.
08:26When you got the only closure that's healthy right now on your team,
08:29when he is pitching in a 7-1 or 6-1 ball game in the eighth inning, ninth inning,
08:34you got problems.
08:35When you know –
08:36Abreu is back out there.
08:37And when you know you got 13 games in a row.
08:39Oh.
08:40Like, you got 13 – you got to play 13 in a row.
08:43So, he's out today, right?
08:45I mean, got to be.
08:46I mean, you look in his eyes, man.
08:48Now, that's the one right there.
08:50That's one that's hard to explain.
08:52Like, I don't – hell, what inning do you pitch him in?
08:55I mean, again –
08:56Right, like, he can't be the closer.
08:58I know we can't do this.
08:59I know we cannot do this right now.
09:01But you remember last year when we were talking about,
09:03hey, man, just give old buddy a week off.
09:05Yeah.
09:05That old Florida Gulf Coast League.
09:07Let's put him on the IAL again.
09:09Give him 15 days.
09:10Go to Abreu's league.
09:10Well, give him something, man, because you're right.
09:12Now he's in his dome.
09:13He's in his head.
09:14I mean, it is – wow.
09:17That's the part that's hard for me.
09:18Every time I catch him, I get up in the morning and I flip it over there
09:20and the station's always on the one that I went to bed on.
09:23So, it's the Astros and it's a replay of that game.
09:25Abreu's up there pitching.
09:26I'm in in the ninth.
09:27Tyler wins strikeout.
09:28Walk, walk, walk.
09:29They see it the other way.
09:32Carlos was – or whoever that was in short –
09:34was walking off the field before that ball landed in the grass.
09:38Not going to win many ball games that way.
09:41All right, coming up.
