00:00I know, I like the script a lot, and I really like that movie.
00:03I just got offered my first movie part.
00:06With Harper's Bazaar, we're getting this on camera.
00:12Right now, I'm in a greenhouse.
00:14Is it an office or is it a greenhouse?
00:16This apartment's from 1960.
00:18I'm not even sure this was a room back then.
00:20It seems like it was probably even a greenhouse,
00:23and then they added floor, office floor to it.
00:26So I just feel like I'm outside without being outside.
00:30I'm open to the sky here.
00:32It's almost like a sukkah.
00:33Everything in my office is very sentimental, you know,
00:36so I keep a lot of thoughtful things.
00:39I like to read magazines.
00:41Maybe you've heard of Harper's Bazaar,
00:43and especially love buying magazines because I'm on planes so often,
00:47and I do go to the Hudson's News, and I do pick up a Harper's Bazaar.
00:50Thank you very much, especially if I'm in it.
00:52This is my first time on Late Night.
00:54Jimmy Kimmel just sent me this.
00:55Is that classy?
00:59What are you obsessed with now?
01:01My wife, Gabby.
01:02Like, this is the easiest question.
01:03What am I obsessed with now?
01:04My wife, Gabby.
01:05She literally just got back at the crack of dawn today
01:09because she had a very long flight, and she's sleeping,
01:12and I'm just so happy she's in the room next door.
01:14When you guys leave, I'm going to sneak in and just get the warmth.
01:18I just am obsessed with her,
01:20and you caught me on a day that she came back
01:21after being away for a few days, so it's always nice.
01:26What are you watching now?
01:28Sister Wives on TLC, which has been the craziest season yet.
01:33I like it humming in the background, and, of course, the Kardashians,
01:37which I've also never missed an episode.
01:38I think what both those shows have in common is big family.
01:42I have nine siblings, and I do like to see a big family squamble.
01:47You know, it's like my family was like the Kardashians, but poor and Jewish.
01:50They still were squabbling over a T-shirt.
01:53What are you listening to now?
01:55Right now, I'm listening on repeat to Ethel Kane's song,
01:59Sun Bleached Flies.
02:01The song is exquisite,
02:04and I can listen to the same song a hundred times.
02:08It drives Gabby nuts.
02:10But I'll say, could you play that Ethel Kane song again?
02:14We just played it.
02:15I'm like, I know that's why I want to hear it again.
02:17Can I just get the chorus going here?
02:23I don't know why that line hits.
02:24I said, fine, that's how my daddy raised me.
02:26I guess because I don't have a daddy.
02:28I grew up without a father.
02:29I think I relate to things a lot with father stuff in it
02:33because of the lack of it.
02:35And I just, that line always hits me.
02:40What is funny to you now?
02:42Everything is funny to me now.
02:44I think some people struggle now to find the humor
02:49because it seems like such an especially chaotic world,
02:53especially through the news lens.
02:56Because I was born into such chaos
02:57in such abysmal kind of circumstances,
03:01I kind of do thrive in this storm.
03:04There's no denying that comedy is also bigger than ever.
03:08So there is a correlation to some extent
03:10between tragedy and comedy.
03:13Maybe it's time.
03:16People love to ask me, like, what do I like better?
03:19Writing my own show, which I have in development at HBO,
03:22writing on other people's shows, writing stand-up.
03:25I mean, to me, they're different hats.
03:27They're different hats.
03:28It's almost like a fine artist.
03:30You know, I can work in clay and I can work in crayon
03:32and I can work in collage.
03:34I really love what I do and I'm just grateful.
03:38Every day that I've made a living and paid my rent
03:41doing what I do is a miracle and is the luxury of my life.
03:46And it is the dream and it's just being able
03:50to do this for a living.
