00:00.
00:30And a warm welcome again to the big match
00:32and a good weekend for football with league attendances up once again
00:35another good sprinkling of goals
00:36some of which we shall bring you today
00:38because this is our line-up
00:39main match, Arsenal against Manchester City
00:44Also, Colchester against Brentford
00:52and Wolves against Derby County
00:58But let's make a start now on the new action
01:00by calling in at Highbury
01:02where the flag proudly proclaims
01:04Arsenal's achievement of last season
01:05and now the champions take on Manchester City
01:08and the 47,000 crowd
01:10waiting for the arrival of the Arsenal team
01:12led by Frank McClintock
01:13a side that's lost its last two games
01:15at Liverpool and Sheffield United
01:17but there's been no panic
01:18Peter Storey, who missed the Sheffield game
01:20is back at number four
01:21but again they'll be looking, of course
01:23to this man Charlie George
01:25to provide the flair in midfield
01:26to go with their renowned efficiency
01:28Manchester City with Colin Bell as their skipper
01:30arrived with a good recent record
01:32one defeat in their last 12 league games
01:34but a poor one at Highbury
01:35they're unchanged and at full strength
01:38and there can be little doubt
01:39that Arsenal fans fear most of all
01:41this incredible man Bell
01:43described with justification
01:44as the game's most complete professional
01:46the referee today, Dennis Corbett of Wolverhampton
01:49in his last year as a referee
01:51and now in the winter sunshine
01:52we wait for his opening whistle
01:59so Manchester City
02:00in their light blue shirts
02:01attacking the goal to our left
02:05Miller
02:07and Miller going on beating both
02:09Rice and Storey
02:10and Rice to put it back to Wilson
02:12and in the crowd today
02:13Crown Prince Harold of Norway
02:20with a shot across that ball
02:22not far away from that Arsenal far post
02:24Mike Summerbee
02:34so George Graham
02:35a beautiful ball there
02:37onto Cannon's left foot
02:38and he couldn't quite take it past Corrigan
02:41George Armstrong
02:42Radford trying to get in with a header
02:44Story trying to get in
02:45and too high
02:48but a lovely ball there
02:50that set Ray Kennedy away
02:54from George Graham
02:55beautiful ball there
02:56and Kennedy couldn't quite get it on his left foot
03:03Colin Bell
03:04to Alan Oaks
03:10Roberts getting above Winn Davis
03:12and George Graham
03:13planting it a long way
03:14back into the arms of Wilson
03:22Radford a nice back flick again
03:23Oaks putting that chase to Armstrong
03:25and now Armstrong with a chance
03:27if he can get there from that
03:28pass by Kennedy
03:30and Corrigan very quickly
03:32and bravely off his line
03:33diving at the feet of the little winger
03:40so City owing a fair bit to Corrigan
03:42and Armstrong so nearly through
03:44for the opening goal for Arsenal
03:45now with a corner
03:46George Armstrong
03:50Corrigan
03:53got a considerable start
03:54on everybody of course
03:54having a bit of a
03:55shouting match there also
03:57with John Roberts
03:59but Corrigan have such an advantage
04:01over everybody else
04:01standing six foot four and a half
04:13Roberts versus Winn Davis
04:15Miller
04:16Miller
04:22McClintock
04:23and booked the night away
04:26Charlie George
04:27McClintock
04:30now Doyle
04:32Lee
04:34with a chance to take on Pat Rice
04:39Arsenal coming across in some numbers
04:41though to try and stop Lee
04:42and he's going on
04:43and Doyle with a shot that wasn't too far off
04:46and certainly had that been accurate
04:48it might have put Wilson under terrible pressure
04:49because he wouldn't have seen much of it
04:52but very good work indeed by Francis Lee
04:54with Arsenal defenders swarming around him
04:57Kennedy
04:58shrewd ball there by George to Kennedy
05:01Radford
05:02okay showing marvellous control
05:04oh it just passed that
05:06next to City post
05:08a beautiful turn by Radford
05:10not the customary power in his shot
05:15but beautiful control on the floor by this big man
05:19and a lovely ball
05:20and a lovely ball that really set it all going
05:21from Charlie George
05:25Corrigan just getting a hand to it
05:27giving the corner then to Arsenal
05:28George Armstrong with it
05:30Roberts right in there
05:32Rice going in hopefully as well
05:34but now Oaks to bring it away
05:35for Manchester City
05:39Davies
05:39to Lee
05:43Story there right with him
05:45Lee a deep cross to Bell on the far side
05:48trying to catch it on the volley
05:49and Oaks was right in there
05:53Somerby now
05:54Doyle
05:55Book
05:57Somerby
05:58Bell
05:59and now Book
06:02Booth
06:03off the head of story
06:06and finally back by Nelson DeWilson
06:10George
06:15Donaghy
06:16took that ball on his body
06:19Somerby
06:25Lee
06:29Colin Bell
06:33Doyle
06:33coming forward slowly
06:35but there are plenty of light blue shirts up there now
06:37for Manchester City
06:38Somerby
06:38but that gives possession to
06:40George Graham
06:45Oh
06:46almost into the path of Kennedy
06:49was Oaks
06:58Doyle
06:59to Donaghy
07:06when Davies trying to get there
07:08and he and Roberts
07:09were having trouble
07:10getting off their marks
07:11and finally it was Story
07:12who puts it behind
07:13for the corner
07:15great scramble after that ball
07:17between Davies and Roberts
07:23eyes everywhere now
07:24as Manchester City
07:25bring men into this Arsenal
07:26penalty area
07:27for this corner
07:28from Mike Somerby
07:32played wide
07:32very very wide
07:34there
07:34to Ed Oaks
07:38Donaghy
07:41whole line of red though
07:43of Arsenal shirts
07:43on the edge of that penalty area
07:44is going to be difficult
07:45for Manchester City
07:45to find a way through it
07:46Oaks
07:47to Lee
07:50and a deep one
07:51with Davies to go after it
07:53and Mellor there
07:54clearly using his hands
07:55he must have used his hands
07:57yes
07:57he put it home there
07:58but
07:59Mellor had used his hands
08:00to control that ball
08:05but he and Davies
08:07were causing
08:07one or two problems there
08:08although they were
08:09heavily outnumbered
08:11and Armstrong
08:12trying to set Radford
08:13away again
08:14good stop there
08:15by Radford
08:16and turn
08:19and he's found Armstrong
08:21jinking and waving
08:22and getting the crossing
08:22there
08:23there's Story
08:23right in there
08:24and Charlie George
08:25and he hammered that
08:26straight against Donaghy
08:28there were two Arsenal
08:29players there
08:30Story and George
08:31who both might have
08:32had a go
08:32at it
08:33Story in fact
08:33using his wits
08:34very well
08:35to lay down
08:36what looked to be
08:36a better chance
08:37for Charlie George
08:42and the whistle goes
08:43for half time
08:44on that high note
08:45at the end of a
08:46rather disappointing
08:46first half
08:48in which Manchester City
08:49have contained Arsenal
08:50very well
08:50and have struck out
08:51devastatingly once or
08:52twice themselves
08:53still to come for you
08:54to enjoy on the big
08:55match this afternoon
08:56Wolves against
08:57Derby County
08:58and Colchester
08:59against Brentford
09:01Francis Lee
09:02still having plenty
09:02to say
09:03as the half time
09:04score here at
09:04Highbury
09:05reads Arsenal
09:060
09:06Manchester City
09:070
09:08and we'll be back
09:09with you
09:09in a couple of minutes
09:24so it'll be
09:25Arsenal then
09:25kicking off now
09:26at the start
09:26of the second half
09:270-0
09:30certainly on the
09:31evidence of the
09:32first half
09:32you would say
09:33that Manchester City
09:33look well capable
09:34of taking a point
09:35from this game
09:36and as it stands
09:37at the moment
09:37Arsenal might well
09:39struggle to get two
09:39against a very well
09:40balanced looking
09:41Manchester City side
09:43balanced and very
09:44organised
09:48there's Lee going away
09:49with a quick break
09:50and McClintock
09:52back to Wilson
10:02Oaks getting above
10:03Kennedy
10:03Mellor deftly touching
10:05that over the head
10:05of Charlie George
10:06for Doyle
10:10Book
10:11Book
10:20having quite a physical
10:21battle of Robertson
10:22Davis there
10:24and again
10:24Roberts
10:27is the one
10:27who's penalised
10:32Davis of course
10:33who is so powerful
10:34in the air
10:34such a difficult customer
10:35to contain
10:36throughout 90 minutes
10:37Doyle with the free
10:38kick and McClintock
10:39getting there just
10:40before Mello could
10:41come in
10:46Graham
10:46Story
10:47Charlie George
10:49Charlie George
10:50and our book
10:51Bell
10:52Lee
10:53Somerby outside him
10:55Bell skipping through
10:56the middle
10:56as for Bell
10:58and McClintock
11:00Story
11:01Bradford
11:03just these two
11:04Arsenal strikers
11:05and George
11:06Armstrong
11:06and there's a good
11:07ball there
11:07from Radford
11:08to Armstrong
11:08taking on and
11:09beating Booth
11:10but giving enough
11:11of the ball there
11:12for Oaks to get in
11:13for Manchester City
11:14Albany's beating them
11:15as well
11:15good play there
11:17and ahead of there
11:18just passed
11:19oh by Radford
11:20and a beautiful
11:21cross though
11:21by Armstrong
11:22towards that near post
11:24a tremendous run
11:25by Radford
11:26now it's Booth
11:32McClintock
11:32George
11:35Kennedy
11:36who really hasn't
11:37made too much impact
11:38on the game so far
11:39being closely watched
11:40by that number six
11:41Alan Oaks
11:42oh but he played
11:43well there
11:44to find Charlie George
11:45and George
11:46couldn't quite find
11:47McClintock
11:47Kennedy now
11:49Bradford
11:50trying to put it
11:51through for Charlie George
11:52oh and he was
11:53far too impressive
11:54probably with that one
11:55with the
11:56Knightsman was flagging
11:57in any case
11:57and maybe Charlie George
11:59had heard the whistle
12:01but it looked as though
12:02he intended taking
12:03the net and all
12:03with that one
12:14but maybe he'd heard
12:15the whistle
12:16and just gave vent
12:17to his feelings
12:19but Corrigan
12:20certainly would have
12:20been relieved
12:20to have heard it
12:22George Graham
12:23in fact going for that one
12:24winning it in the air
12:24Armstrong to tuck it on
12:25again
12:26Tommy Boone
12:30Clintock
12:31and straight there
12:32for Somerby
12:34Wynn Davis
12:34outside him
12:35and George Graham
12:36coming back to challenge
12:36and Somerby
12:37getting up
12:37and doing very well
12:38indeed
12:38and a shot
12:39and a shot there
12:40straight up
12:40and a bit of dog
12:43in play there
12:43by Mike Somerby
12:44as well
12:44Lord picked himself up
12:46and then got a new shot
12:48Kennedy
12:49handball against Donaghy
12:54Arsenal's free kick
13:02McClintock
13:03the skipper to take it
13:08aiming towards Kennedy
13:10he couldn't turn
13:11couldn't lot it down
13:12for Charlie George
13:13Roberts going in
13:14powerfully and again
13:15he is penalised
13:16his elbows were too high
13:17up the back of
13:18Wynn Davis
13:21what a great battle
13:22these two have had
13:22all afternoon
13:26Lee Abel Rala
13:28not quite getting
13:28on to the end
13:29of that one
13:29but a good run
13:30and Nelson to Wilson
13:40Bradford
13:41Bradford once more
13:43Armstrong
13:46Charlie George
13:50Kennedy
13:54challenge by Bell
13:55is too strong
13:56for Story
13:58Lee
14:01catching McClintock
14:01off balance
14:02for a moment
14:02all between the legs
14:04of George Graham
14:05for Colin Bell
14:05bearing down
14:06hard on that goal
14:20Bryce
14:25Kennedy
14:29bounce of the ball
14:29looked for a moment
14:30as though he was
14:30going to beat Donaghy
14:31but he matched it
14:35ball still in play
14:37and Roberts
14:39predictably back
14:39to Wilson
14:52he was pushing
14:53Kennedy in the back
15:02Charlie George
15:03is going to take
15:03it looks like
15:04he's going to take
15:04it quickly
15:05but he wasn't
15:06taking it from
15:07the right place
15:10so McClintock
15:11to take it
15:12Bradford to try
15:13and get to it
15:15Armstrong
15:18George Graham
15:19can he do it again
15:29can he do it again
15:29but it's a corner
15:42so Tommy Booth
15:43took a knock
15:48he's going to take it
15:56he's going to take it
15:56and he's going to take it
15:57in the face
15:57and in fact Pat Rice
15:58is also getting a bit
15:59of attention
15:59at the same time
16:10both are okay again and it's Armstrong with the corner for Arsenal
16:15George Graham is there once more but in fact the foul against George Graham
16:36Roberts Bell some of the versus Nelson and the throw to Manchester City
16:59his strength against the strength of Oaks and Kennedy winning that one
17:03but getting a corner
17:07both have recovered very quickly good strong challenging run though by Ray Kennedy
17:14has got the North Bank cheering and Armstrong to take the corner
17:19Roberts has gone there sprinting into the box
17:23it's a deep one there put towards Radford
17:26now McClintock
17:29and now Nelson
17:33and Nelson
17:34and it's given
17:35City standing bewildered
17:38Nelson himself seemed to hesitate for a moment
17:41but the smile tells everything now
17:44and the goal is given
17:51Colin Bell having a fierce word there with the referee
17:53and the referee's eyes are blazing
18:00and Bell quite clearly feeling that
18:04Nelson was offside
18:07so Manchester City then go a goal behind with a little over 20 minutes left
18:37Nelson
18:39the first goal Sammy Nelson scored all season
18:42and it could be a very important one for Arsenal
18:50Nelson
18:53Armstrong
18:53Armstrong
19:10so his first goal putting Arsenal
19:13ahead and breaking the deadlock
19:14and breaking the deadlock George Graham Roberts right up there
19:16can Roberts get in one
19:19Charlie George trying to stop it before it goes out and turn it back first time
19:22but Doyle now
19:25and City at the moment a little bit at odds with each other
19:28and needing just a moment of breathing space to reform
19:33but I can't think that Arsenal are going to give it to them
19:35McClintock now to Kennedy
19:43Summerby
19:46far too far ahead of Lee
19:50well that poses problems there for Malcolm Allison and Joe Mercer
20:05Radford turning it nicely off for George Armstrong
20:11Oaks
20:30well a lot of relief I would have thought from Steve Bertenshaw
20:33he must have wondered how he was going to find a way past Manchester City
20:39well it was done under controversial terms
20:41but it's a goal that counts
20:42and now it's Oaks
20:43Doyle
20:45and that's past the Arsenal post
20:50could well see more and more of Mike Doyle coming forward now
20:53as City try and do something about this one goal deficit
21:03urging more effort now from Manchester City
21:05as Bob Wilson takes this goal kick
21:14Rice quicker than anybody to react to that one
21:16but not a very good pass
21:18Oaks
21:27and now Mellor
21:30and a goal
21:34beautifully taken by Ian Mellor
21:36a wonderful economy of effort after he was put through
21:41a real streaking ground shot giving Wilson no chance
21:56so an injury there
21:58on John Roberts I think it is
22:06John Roberts it is
22:14and so Manchester City get right back into this game at 1-1
22:23and so Manchester City get right back into this game at 1-1
22:34George Graham getting above everybody.
22:37Bell and Davis, who are not bad headers of the ball themselves.
22:46Kennedy trying to shield that ball all the while from Booth,
22:49finding Nelson.
22:52And now Book.
22:54Wynn Davis, Doyle.
22:59And the ball for Lee is going through at a tremendous pace
23:02and Rice did exactly the right thing there,
23:05turning it away for the corner,
23:08giving other defenders a chance to come back.
23:10It was Rice against Lee,
23:11and the slightest slip could have let Francis Lee in.
23:19Number five, Tommy Booth,
23:20has gone chugging into that Arsenal penalty area once more,
23:23looking to get ahead to that one,
23:24but in fact it's Kennedy putting it away there.
23:26Story!
23:27And nearly putting it into his own goal.
23:29Wilson needed to tip that one over.
23:32Story in fact glancing that one back under pressure from Francis Lee.
23:38And so another corner then to Manchester City.
23:45Somerby with the corner.
23:48And Wilson catching it well.
24:01Donaghy and Doyle combining very neatly there.
24:06Donaghy taking it up again.
24:11Doyle missing it completely.
24:13But finding the angle is right to try and get Tony Book away.
24:20Bell.
24:21Couldn't get past Story.
24:23Lee could.
24:27Caracteristic Francis Lee flick.
24:30Now Oaks.
24:33Sumerby.
24:35Donaghy.
24:36Everybody back.
24:37Corrigan in that Arsenal half.
24:39Bell getting above them all.
24:40And now Lee.
24:41Hitting one across there.
24:43And it's down by Colin Bell.
24:49So coming from behind now to lead by two goals to one.
24:53A low, devastating cross by Francis Lee.
24:57And Colin Bell getting in on the end of it.
25:05So Manchester City go ahead now with six minutes left.
25:10Side with a bad record against Arsenal.
25:12They lost both league games last season.
25:15Kennedy virtually pulling Somerby to the floor.
25:18And they lost in the FA Cup also to Arsenal.
25:22In fact Arsenal have not lost in the last 11 league matches against Manchester City.
25:33So now a free kick then to Arsenal with a lot to do in the remaining five minutes.
25:38Nelson planting it high again.
25:40Corrigan coming for it with one big fist to get it away.
25:44Somerby.
25:44Nelson.
25:46Story.
25:50And hopes to cut it out.
26:00Armstrong now to take the throw for Arsenal.
26:04Radford turning it across again.
26:06George Graham right in there.
26:07Doyle nodding it back.
26:09And Corrigan getting there just before Kennedy.
26:15Davis.
26:20Rice.
26:23Kennedy.
26:25And now Armstrong.
26:26And they've got to make openings like this count now.
26:29But City reforming very quickly.
26:34Oaks.
26:34Who really has played a blinder at the back for Manchester City.
26:37Oaks.
26:38And Donaghy as well.
26:40Lee.
26:46Still Lee.
26:47Shaking off everybody inside Francis Lee.
26:50And still he's gone.
26:51Stopped in the end by Wilson.
26:55Now Kennedy to take it out for the Arsenal counter attack.
26:58George Graham right up there with him.
27:01Oh, not a very good one though by Graham.
27:03Straight to Colin Bell.
27:04Thank you very much indeed.
27:06Or rather to Wynn Davis.
27:08Now Mellor.
27:10Book.
27:12Somerby.
27:17Bradford.
27:23George Graham to Sammy Nelson.
27:27Kennedy.
27:30And Oaks once more is equal to it.
27:32Roberts.
27:34Charlie George.
27:38And now Armstrong.
27:40George playing a swift one there.
27:42Hoping the story can get there but once more that man Oaks is there.
27:47Remember a couple of years ago Malcolm Allison saying that this man Alan Oaks is the greatest professional he's ever
27:52trained.
27:53And I would have thought on today's evidence his opinion would hardly have changed.
27:57Lee.
27:58Playing it across his own penalty area showing his confidence and finding Booth.
28:02Somerby.
28:06Substitute Jeffries.
28:07On to Mike Doyle.
28:09And the whistle goes.
28:12And Manchester City has certainly have laid this Highbury bogey.
28:15They've won here at last.
28:17After Sammy Nelson had put Arsenal controversially ahead.
28:21It then took goals by Ian Mellor, the number 11 in the first place.
28:25And then the winner coming after that from number 8 Colin Bell, the Manchester City skipper.
28:32The combination of Lee and Bell finally then the decisive first that brings defeat for Arsenal.
28:38So the full time score here at Highbury is Arsenal 1, Manchester City 2.
28:55So a sad end there for Arsenal and still to come for you to enjoy on the programme today.
28:58Highlights of Colchester against Brentford from the 4th Division, that makes a nice change.
29:02And also Wolves against Derby County.
29:04Now with that victory Manchester City stay in third place just three points behind Manchester United.
29:09But Arsenal now have slipped down to ninth.
29:11That was their third successive defeat.
29:13Their third at home this season, which is significant.
29:15So obviously as we go across to Jimmy Hill, his first subject is Arsenal's performance.
29:20Well in fact I was quite astonished to see Arsenal's performance yesterday.
29:23Because last time I saw them was against Chelsea, where they arrogantly won at Stamford Bridge.
29:28And it really was astonishing to me how their confidence had drained from them.
29:33It wasn't helped of course yesterday by fans who at times were abusing individuals who only a little while ago
29:39were their heroes when they did the double for them.
29:41Both sides played rather scrappily.
29:43In fact I don't think I've seen two class sides throw the ball away as often as they did in
29:48the first half yesterday.
29:49But in the end it was Arsenal who emerged with the first goal.
29:53Scrappy play or not they got in the lead and it was a disputed goal in some ways because a
29:58lot of people thought it was offside.
30:00We've got to watch now the moment Frank McClintock plays this ball when it comes out from the corner.
30:05And off your screen Sammy Nelson's making a run and you'll see him in a moment.
30:09Where is Sammy Nelson now?
30:11We know where he is when the ball drops.
30:13In order to give a perfect decision we'd have to know where it was when the ball was played.
30:17And you can see there the luck of the draw how Corrigan almost seems to lift his leg and say
30:21well you missed the first time and now you've got it this time.
30:24There's Bell protesting that that may have been offside.
30:26My view, the linesman and the referee were right there.
30:29I think that was a perfectly good goal and a well worked goal.
30:32But Arsenal's problems were only just starting.
30:35Manchester City, who we saw fight back so well last week against United, fought back again and Arsenal's goal only
30:41seemed to inspire them.
30:43And the man really, for me, who was the man of the match and really was a tremendous influence on
30:48the City performance all the way through, was Colin Bell.
30:51If I had to start a team tomorrow with one player, Colin Bell would be my number one choice.
30:56He gets all round the field, rather like Martin Peters, who we saw last week on the montage.
31:02He gets everywhere on a football pitch.
31:05There's a cross from the left wing.
31:06I was surprised really how deep he played, but how quickly he assesses the pass from that deep position.
31:13There's a lovely one up the left wing to Davis.
31:15Once again we pick him up in a deep position here, making an interception and a quick prod off, simple
31:21pass, deadly accurate, making the game look easy.
31:25George Armstrong had a good game yesterday.
31:27He was the most dangerous player, I thought, for Arsenal.
31:30And here he gets up the left wing and lays over a very good cross.
31:33But who is it who heads the ball away?
31:36There it is, Colin Bell in his own six-yard box.
31:38This is a feature of his play, and it's astonishing how he manages to remain a leading scorer in the
31:44league.
31:45One more interception on the edge of his own area, a simple pass off to Lee, and a run up
31:50the field.
31:50You can see him on your right of the screen now.
31:52Where is he now?
31:53Moving into his opponent's penalty area, and a first-class shot there just past the post.
31:59And finally, it's this ability that he's got to play a ball and then appear 15 yards in front of
32:05it in no time at all that got them the goal.
32:07That's Bell heading the ball to Lee now.
32:10First-time ball, and who's on the end of it?
32:12Colin Bell, tremendous acceleration, putting the final touch and putting it in the net.
32:17That was really a first-class performance from him.
32:20I like him because not only is he a good player, he's an unselfish player.
32:24He's captain, he makes it easy for other players to play by giving the ball to them quickly.
32:28Well, time for more action now, and for this we take a few highlights of Brentford's visit yesterday to Colchester.
32:34Colchester, who rarely this season have reproduced the form that won them the Watney Cup.
32:37Brentford, who've always been amongst the pacemakers in the fourth division.
32:41Pictures from Anglia, the commentator Gerry Harrison, and Brentford are in the stripes.
32:44Turned by Doherty, almost gets himself back into trouble. Amara coming in on this one, there's Smith, safe.
32:56So now Cook, Cram goes up the right, telling him to give a big one.
33:01To Lewis, behind him is Steve Tom and the free kick.
33:06So Lewis is going to get some fairly close attention for most of the game, obviously, with his record of
33:12goal scoring and his record against Brentford.
33:14Cook with a kick.
33:17Gibbs gets it, Cram.
33:20Jones.
33:21That's it.
33:24Ken Jones.
33:26And number four, Bobby Crump getting it into the middle, so dangerously.
33:32About the 15 minutes gone, the breakthrough for Colchester.
33:36Indeed, it's only the sixth league goal that Brentford have conceded away from home, so it's a really important one.
33:42And will mean that Brentford, with so many midfield players, will have to reorganise their ideas somewhat.
33:59Trying to get Doherty away with Brian Garvey. Smith has come back to help, or come out to help.
34:08A lot of players in midfield as Brentford push up hard.
34:12Brian Lewis with Nelms coming in hard this time, and it's Tom who picks up.
34:17Well up there by Brian Garvey against Ross. Lewis turning well against Nelms.
34:24Nelms is back again, though.
34:27Garvey once more. Cram, he had support on the right, but he plays it safe over the top.
34:31Ken Jones trying to touch it down to Mickey Cook, and he'll get there.
34:36Up goes Gibbs, too far for him. And Lewis running free to him.
34:41He hasn't had many chances, and that was only a half effort, but so close.
34:52Ross beaten by Brian Garvey, but straight down to Paul Bensley, full-back.
34:57O'Mara going down that right flank. That's meant for O'Mara.
34:59Hall cuts out with a neat bit of control.
35:02And space here for Coulterstock.
35:05Leslie turns. Hall on the left.
35:08Bjorkas going to help him. Back to Leslie.
35:11On the right here is Cram, but changing it, or refusing to change it,
35:15and it seems a little bit bottled up there.
35:18Now Cram coming for it, but it's a hopeful ball, and well cut out by Graham.
35:22Now Turner on this left here is Scales.
35:28Turner still free there. That's Turner.
35:31Now O'Mara, Doherty and Ross up the front.
35:35Turner to O'Mara.
35:37Trying to turn. Three, four blue-shirted players up against him.
35:42Bens thumping it in. O'Mara.
35:48The touch from O'Mara.
35:51And Brentford on terms. One goal each.
36:03Away by Nelms. Cram is in there hard.
36:06Surely being held off. Gibbs.
36:08Oh, what a save from Phillips.
36:11What a great save by Phillips.
36:13He's been in the game so rarely.
36:15Yes indeed, a great save. Most certainly it was.
36:17And that point kept Brentford at the top of the fourth division.
36:30Time now for some more action.
36:31For this we go to the big clash in the Midlands.
36:33Between Wolves, who are unbeaten at home.
36:35And Derby County riding high towards the top of the first division.
36:38At Molyneux were the ATV cameras.
36:40The commentator Hugh Johns.
36:42And Derby County in white.
36:49Foul call against Parkin and O'Hare squaring up to each other.
36:59So Hinton has the free kick.
37:08Hinton, Webster.
37:10Number two.
37:12And all this time, the referee is having a pretty stern bird with Parkin.
37:20Now the free kick can be taken.
37:21Hinton.
37:23Got to be a goalkeeper's ball.
37:24O'Hare scores!
37:26And the tragedy is against John McCall.
37:28John O'Hare scores.
37:311-0 for Derby.
37:3422 minutes gone.
37:35Park's a very angry man.
37:37John McCall getting his head to a ball which should have been a goalkeeper's ball all the way from the
37:42free kick.
37:43And O'Hare the easiest chance in the world to score.
37:46John McGovern.
37:50O'Hare.
37:51O'Hare.
37:54Trying to turn against Parkin and wins a corner kick off him.
38:02And Parkin teased into a position that he didn't like though.
38:05The delay will be for Hinton to come across.
38:10It's the area that Hinton will be aiming this corner kick at.
38:13Hector on the near post.
38:16Hinton and Webster, number two, working on the corner flag.
38:21Parkin away as far as Wagstaff and Webster to put it back.
38:24McFarlane.
38:26And why didn't Hinton just put his knee on that ball?
38:33McFarlane nodding across a completely empty net.
38:36And Kevin Hector, it looked from here as though he only had to put his knee in there and it
38:42had to be a second goal.
38:4530 minutes of this first half gone.
38:48That could easily have been Derby 2-0 but it's 1-0 hint in the corner now.
38:53Monroe away.
38:55Webster.
38:59McFarlane.
39:00McFarlane's a bit short for him.
39:02O'Hare is in there.
39:04Hennessey.
39:04Hector on.
39:05Monroe stops.
39:09Webster.
39:10Face by Webster.
39:12Good, great ball.
39:14Hibbit.
39:16Did that well.
39:18Oh, didn't he do that well.
39:23Kenny Hibbit there.
39:26O'Hare brought that down well.
39:29Monroe.
39:34Dugan on the challenge.
39:36Richards just couldn't...
39:38Ball just wouldn't bubble for him.
39:42Bailey, a good ball for Shaw.
39:46Kelly O'Hare.
39:48Hibbit.
39:50Richards.
39:52Went for Shaw.
39:55Shaw again.
39:58Real flurry of Wolves pressure this.
40:08Mike Bailey.
40:10To him.
40:16Mike Bailey.
40:20Hinton.
40:22John O'Hare.
40:28Todd now.
40:32Not quite the ball he intended.
40:35Dugan.
40:38Closing away from two fairly.
40:41Hearty pieces of tackling then.
40:45Second one producing the free kick.
40:49Shaw to take it.
40:51Now the first one produced the free kick.
40:54McFarlane.
40:55Shaw now.
40:56With this free kick for Wolves.
40:57Time ticking away from them.
40:59Towards half time.
41:02Goal keepers come.
41:04And lost it.
41:05And that is number nine.
41:07John Richards.
41:08It's a level score.
41:09And one one.
41:17Oh, John Richards really banged equaliser in.
41:20Under the second goal he's ever scored in league football.
41:25The goal made by Dugan's jump when Shaw's kick came over.
41:29Bolton came.
41:30Missed the ball.
41:32And Richards hammers it in.
41:36Oh, that's a gift to Ragstar.
41:41Good chip ball and Dugan was going but he was offside anyway.
41:47Flag down to my right.
41:49Four is up.
41:55Richards breaking.
41:59A little ambitious the lad there.
42:01Boom.
42:03Good honest running then by Robson.
42:06O'Hare.
42:09Robson still going on his left.
42:12And finally Munro gives the corner away.
42:14And you see the number three.
42:15Robson still down there.
42:17Number five Munro gave the corner.
42:18But Robson going away to the corner kick area.
42:24Made that ball his own on the halfway line.
42:27By sheer dogged determination and real guts.
42:33Hint of them.
42:36Shaw away.
42:38As far as Robson.
42:40McGovern trying one.
42:43Johnny McGovern.
42:45Who as we've seen in the past can hammer the ball.
42:51Just wide of the post.
43:07Dugan and McFarlane together and McFarlane just about won that one.
43:12One more.
43:14Two more.
43:17Terry Hennessy.
43:19Doing a fair job as a...
43:21Sort of advanced sweeper sweeping in front of four.
43:29McGovern being put under certain amount of difficulty by the challenge of John O'Hare.
43:38Richards getting a touch forward, Dugan on the jump, give it forward and Todd reading it perfectly. What a valuable
43:48player this champion.
43:57Hector winning, O'Hare, Barker tackling back. Bulls ball. Well there's only 15 minutes of this game left for either
44:10side to break the deadlock.
44:19General Ford, Parkin to intercept.
44:26Calling Wagstaff to him.
44:32Parkin now using Munro.
44:38Un-try one.
44:41Hibbit, Dugan!
44:46And finally, Richards. Richards gets the goal.
44:56So, John Richards, who started this game with only one league goal in the whole of his career, has doubled
45:02his total in this one match.
45:042-1 then to Wolves.
45:07But the determination of Dugan on the ground.
45:11Hibbit joining in and Richards getting on the end of that kerfuffle on the goal mouth area.
45:17McGovern, an easy interception.
45:19Wagstaff on the challenge and wins it back again.
45:23Good determined running by Wagstaff.
45:26Neat ball then for McGovern.
45:28Wagstaff's gone for the return.
45:32Did that well. Hibbit.
45:34What a great one!
45:37And that 2-1 victory keeps Wolves' unbeaten record at home intact.
45:42Today we leave you with that wonderful combination of Francis Lee and Colin Bell.
45:45And particularly Colin Bell.
45:47The man that Jimmy was saying earlier in the programme would be his number one all-rounder in the whole
45:51of the football league.
45:52Well, could you think of anyone better than Bell?
45:56Bell.
45:58Couldn't get past Story.
46:00Lee could.
46:03Caracteristic Francis Lee flick.
46:07Now Oakes.
46:10Summerbee.
46:12Donaghy.
46:13Everybody by Corrigan in that Arsenal half.
46:15Bell getting above them all.
46:17And now Lee.
46:18Hitting one across there!
46:19And it's more of Mike Piper!
46:21And it's more of Mike Piper!
46:54It's more of Mike Piper.
46:56But he's scared!
