00:00This week on Elite Fishing Series TV, the tour returns to the familiar waters of the Louisiana North Shore.
00:07It's time for the Slidell Shootout, presented by Visit the North Shore.
00:13Tour stop number three in the Frogtog's Elite Solo Tour season.
00:30Hey folks, I'm Pat Malone, host and tournament director of the Elite Fishing Series.
00:58My travels have taken me to a lot of great coastal communities, each one special in their own way.
01:05And this week's tour stop in Slidell, Louisiana is no exception.
01:10What you come to Slidell, Louisiana for right there?
01:13The North Shore is a hidden gem located on Lake Pontchartrain, just 45 minutes north of New Orleans.
01:20With a vibrant collection of communities, where Old World charm fits hand in hand with modern day excitement.
01:27For the adventurous spirits, the North Shore has a lot of options.
01:31Hike scenic trails, bike through lush forests, or just paddle along the tranquil waters of Lake Pontchartrain.
01:39The North Shore blends art and culture with galleries showcasing local talent and live music performances filling the air with melodies.
01:46Of course, any time we visit the North Shore, sea food is at the top of the list for reasons to come and stay in Slidell.
01:54A place where nature's beauty meets southern hospitality, and a main reason the Louisiana North Shore is one of the country's top vacation destinations.
02:04There really is something for everyone.
02:06This week on the North Shore, the weather was a major factor.
02:13High water caused the closing of all the boat ramps in the area, and officials issued small craft advisories throughout day one and forced its cancellation.
02:23While day two looked a lot better, the standing water over the docks at Wrigley's Marina meant a new launch location would be needed for Friday.
02:35For safety reasons, the tour and its field headed south to Campos Marina and launched for the single day of qualifying.
02:42Not what anyone wanted, but it was safe, and one day is better than none.
02:51But this meant the pros would have to find the fish fast and avoid mistakes.
02:56Getting their equipment right and getting in the water early was a top priority.
03:12Day one of the Elite Series, we're ready to rock and roll over here.
03:40It's going to be a fun one.
03:41We finally got a break in the weather, and it looks a beautiful morning, guys.
03:44We're going to go get them.
03:45Good luck.
03:46Yes, sir.
03:51After a full day of fishing, the field returned for the weigh-in at what was now a beautiful afternoon at Heritage Park in Swydell.
03:59The St. Tammany Fire Department filled the Waterloo Rods live redfish experience tanks, and the stage was now set.
04:07All that was left was to see who caught them.
04:09With the top four weights moving on to fish on Championship Saturday.
04:14As the pros made their way to Heritage Park and got themselves and their fish ready to hit the stage, it was obvious.
04:21The tropical storm and high water had a major effect on the fishing.
04:26The big fish and heavy limits this area is known for were not showing up, as some anglers struggled to get their three fish limit.
04:34And when they did, all right, well, these are the first fish of the day.
04:38I'm going to lock you in at 9.87.
04:40They weren't the big ones.
04:41You need 9.87 to take the lead.
04:4313.04.
04:44There you go, brother.
04:45Texas pro Will Branberry brought in a handful.
04:50Three fish, 8.55.
04:52But still had a smile on his face.
04:55Eventually, the weights picked up.
04:57Reeves weighed in 16.54.
05:00But Max barely eshes him out for fourth with 16.68.
05:04With 17.32.
05:06Travis Land makes the move to Championship Saturday.
05:09He's going to go on to tomorrow, 19.60.
05:12Michael Fournette joins the final four.
05:15Jekko's Marine Pro, he needs 17.32.
05:18I think he's got that, folks.
05:2024.51.
05:21But it's Mark Robinson setting the mark with the only 20-plus pound bag of the event.
05:26I was just kind of banking on that tide falling out, so I just went to the shallowest water that I could find on my maps because we didn't get to pre-fish.
05:32I mean, all the roads, the ramps have been underwater for a week, you know.
05:36So, just kind of went off just looking at my map and picked a couple spots and went for it.
05:41Put my trolling motor down and put it on high for about four hours before I saw a fish.
05:46Stay tuned.
05:46We'll be back with Mark Robinson, Michael Fournette, Travis Land, and Max Martin, the final four fishing Championship Saturday on the North Shore.
05:58Welcome back to the Slidell Shootout, presented by Visit the North Shore.
06:02It's early on Championship Saturday.
06:06The pros have had their brief pre-round meeting and have been paired with their cameramen for the day.
06:14They'll load up and head out for the 50-minute drive once again to Campos, the alternative launch for this event caused by the flooding earlier in the week.
06:23Saturdays are always more crowded with local traffic, both on the roads and water.
06:37But we'll get the boats in the water and on their way for the final time this week
06:41and the conclusion to another exciting tour stop on the Frog Talks Elite Solo Tour season.
06:47All right, here we are, day three, Slidell.
07:00It was a tough bite yesterday.
07:02We didn't really catch a whole lot of fish.
07:06We caught three of the fish that we needed.
07:09A lot better conditions today.
07:10Not a dairy's windy.
07:11Hopefully, that tide has had some time to go out.
07:16And I think we'll have a lot better day today.
07:19Y'all stay tuned and see what happens.
07:23Good weather today.
07:24The tide's lower.
07:25It's been four foot high.
07:27Yesterday it was quite a bit lower.
07:28Then today it's even lower.
07:30Almost back to normal now.
07:32So, should be a lot of fish out there.
07:34Should be good fishing.
07:36Should be a lot of action.
07:37Yesterday we probably caught, you know, 15, probably 15 reds.
07:42I caught upgraded and upgraded and couldn't upgrade anymore.
07:47So, kind of called it quits.
07:50About one o'clock, threw in the towel.
07:52I didn't have anything.
07:53I didn't feel like I could upgrade anymore.
07:55I didn't want to beat my fish up anymore.
07:57But today we're going to grind on them.
07:58We're going to give it all we got.
08:01Throughout the day yesterday, the fish just continued to get better.
08:03And I saw more and more fish.
08:05So, hopefully a whole day ahead, better weather, maybe some more fish.
08:10We saw enough yesterday to where we'll have enough shots today.
08:14And if you just, you know, if you take advantage of your opportunities, I'll be all right.
08:20But at the same time, we might get a few more opportunities today with this good weather than we've been getting.
08:25So, maybe the fish isn't going to get off.
08:26Turn on fire.
08:27Hopefully get three fish at a decent time and then go to some areas that have fewer fish but bigger fish.
08:36So, we'll see what happens.
08:49Finally got a nice day.
08:51Water's still pretty high.
08:53So, get out there and see what we can get done.
09:11Pulled up to the ramp.
09:12All the ramps were underwater.
09:13Water was, I mean, on this pole, it was probably right here.
09:17Probably where their water was.
09:18So, yeah, so it didn't do any good to pre-fish.
09:22It's all new.
09:23And today's a new day, too.
09:24We've already lost, from yesterday, we've lost two more foot of water.
09:27So, I don't even know if I'll be able to float where I caught my fish yesterday.
09:30It's going to be a whole new adventure today.
09:38The wind's called for being a little bit calmer.
09:41That'll help.
09:43And this water looks like it's getting out of here.
09:45So, that'll help, too.
09:47Well, very little pre-fishing time because of the tropical storm.
09:51But we're here.
10:01We're going to turn south, head down to Mr. Go a little bit and get into Mars.
10:05We're going to peck away and just do some lucky stuff for the first couple hours until that sun comes up.
10:08And when it does, we'll try to sight fish and then really get to work.
10:11So, everybody put your seatbelt on.
10:12Let's roll.
10:22Stay tuned.
10:23We'll be back with more from the North Shore after these messages.
10:26Welcome back to the Elite Fishing Series and the Slidell Shootout on the Louisiana North Shore.
10:45Elite Fishing Series Television is brought to you by Tidewater Boats, the official boat of the Elite Fishing Series.
10:56Yamaha Outboards, the official outboard motor of the Elite Fishing Series.
11:00Frog Togs, Total Outdoor Performance Gear, McLean Trailers, Built for the Long Haul, Waterloo Rods, Might as well fish the best,
11:09Check-and-Stick Measuring Systems, Brecknell Scales, Speedy Stops Fuel and Bolt, the Silver Slipper Casino and Hotel, and our community partners.
11:22Day three is underway.
11:25Some anglers are still getting to their first stops.
11:27Start here.
11:29First stop, we made it.
11:30Others have made it and are getting set up.
11:32One is waiting on the sun, and one is already catching them and sharing a reminder on the importance of conservation.
11:44As of yesterday, the limits went from 16 inches to 18 inches, and there's a couple more rules to go along with it as well, but long story short is we're trying to protect these little guys.
11:55Look, we've got to do a lot better job as a state to start protecting our habitat.
12:00It's our land loss that is really, you know, creating the loss of population on these redfish, but at least until we can figure out what to do with the land, we need to protect the ones we've got left.
12:10Max Martin gets an early bite, but this one will not meet the state's new 18-inch minimum size limit, and we'll have to go back.
12:39Travis Land hooks up on his first fish.
12:54Got us a little one.
12:56I caught the littlest one in the group.
13:01And at the start of day three, the state's new minimum size limit is coming into play.
13:06We've got our first one of the day.
13:10He's not even big enough, but I don't want to drop him just yet because there were three other ones with him.
13:15He's not long enough.
13:16We're going to let him swan dive back in there.
13:24Mark Robison gets in the game.
13:27Probably got the little one.
13:28But with the same results.
13:32The Louisiana North Shore is giving up a lot of fish early, but as we've seen, they've all been under sonnest according to the new state guidelines.
13:42Not the one we need, but it's a fish.
13:47Come on.
13:47This feels like a better fish.
13:53Land looks to boat the first keeper of the day, and this one could signal the start of the bigger fish showing up.
13:59Just don't be too big, baby.
14:01If it's the right size.
14:03We need him to be under 27 inches, preferably about 26 and three quarter.
14:08Oh, now he's making me nervous.
14:13He's too big.
14:15Come on.
14:16Be the one.
14:17Be the one.
14:18He don't look too big.
14:21Oh, he's going to be close.
14:25Don't get in the power poles.
14:28Man, these red fish are strong.
14:36Yeah, he's going to be a little too large.
14:38He's going to be about 29, 30 inches long.
15:01Big, beautiful Louisiana redfish.
15:05One thing about Louisiana, you can only keep them under 27 inches.
15:10Look at his tail.
15:10His tail looks funny, too.
15:11Look at that.
15:13All right.
15:14Adios, bud.
15:14We've got to find your little brother.
15:22Stay tuned.
15:22We'll be back with more from the Louisiana North Shore after these brief messages.
15:27I thought he was a little bigger than that myself, but it's hard to tell when they're down there
15:35in that deep water.
15:38But anyway, that's what you come to Slidell, Louisiana for right there.
15:43Closed captioning provided by McLean Trailers, the official trailer of the Elite Fishing Series.
15:49Welcome back to the Frog Talks Elite Solo Tour and the Slidell Shootouts on the Louisiana North Shore.
15:55There he is right there.
16:01Oh, I got him.
16:03Big one.
16:11Bleeding that.
16:16We got wars.
16:17I got to get to get red-horning my babies.
16:23That's a good one.
16:29All right.
16:34Oh, I got him.
16:34Let's hope this one isn't too big.
16:47Come on, big boy.
16:5026 and a half.
16:51That's what we need.
16:5126 and a half.
16:53I'll take a 25 and a half.
16:54I don't care.
16:54I don't care.
16:54I don't care.
16:54I don't care.
16:56I don't care.
17:02Nothing special.
17:07Nothing special at all.
17:1126 and three quarters.
17:15He is a good one.
17:17Not even going to weigh him.
17:19I'm just going to try to catch one more.
17:22Come here, big boy.
17:23Come here, come here.
17:23We need you in the boat.
17:26Oh, he's going to be perfect.
17:27Come here, come here, come here, come here.
17:28Oh, gosh.
17:29On day three in Louisiana, anywheres, if you're weighing three-pound fish, you're probably
17:51just wasting time.
17:52Make it or break it, baby.
17:53Make it or break it.
17:53Oh, ho, ho, ho, ho.
17:55Yes.
17:58All day long.
18:03Anglers are finishing up their final catches, packing up their gear, and making their way
18:08back to the ramp.
18:10But for now, we've got to get out of here.
18:12We've got to go rescue Mike and get him to the dock on time.
18:14On the way, Mark and Max stop to help Michael make it in.
18:18But there's always one guy that's looking for one more fish.
18:21Got him.
18:25Coming right at the boat.
18:28Smaller fish.
18:30We've got to have three, so I just, I took the safer bet and caught the one I knew would
18:34fit.
18:34Six pounds.
18:36Like I thought.
18:36I should have caught that other one, but that's all right.
18:42That's a stud.
18:43That's a stud!
18:46Oh, ho, ho, ho, ho.
18:47That is a stud!
18:50Seven to three quarter.
18:51Travis catches his last fish of the day.
18:55All right, let's ride the road, my bunny.
18:57And heads in.
19:03The field is all in and loading up.
19:07Ready to make the drive to Heritage Park for Championship Saturday's weigh-in.
19:11Slidell's Mayor Cromer stops by to say hi, receive an award, and kick off the weigh-in.
19:19We are about to crown another elite solo tour champion and hand him a well-earned $10,000
19:25check.
19:26As anglers get their fish measured and come to the stage, a great crowd had assembled to
19:32see the finale.
19:33But first, congratulations to Jeremy Reeves on another top-five finish.
19:39Jeremy barely missed making the cut to fish championship Saturday by just 18 one-hundredths
19:45of a pound to Max Martin and finished the event in fifth place overall.
19:50Put your hands together for Mr. Max, Mark, 9-65.
19:5517-11.
19:56Mark Robinson, 19-03.
19:59Michael Frenick, all the way from Seguin, Texas, we're going to bring you up Mamba Custom
20:03Boats Pro, Mr. Travis Land.
20:06Going to need over 19 pounds to win it.
20:07He's got three, and he's got the win.
20:1021-66.
20:11Travis Land, your winner of the 2024 Slidell Shootout presented by Visit the North Shore.
20:19Travis weighs in 21.66 pounds and lands the win to take home the top spot and check for
20:27$10,000 at the Slidell Shootout.
20:30Congratulations, Travis, and thank you to all of the anglers that competed this week.
20:34This is your host, Pat Malone, saying thank you for watching the pros of the Elite Fishing
20:38Series, and tune in next week when the tour moves west to the fun island vibe of Kemah,
