00:01Bonjour!
00:02Six couples stepped up to chase the same life-changing prize.
00:06I can't believe we're here.
00:08Stunning.
00:09Look at this view, Brett.
00:10Welcome to the best bed and breakfast.
00:13The keys to their own dream five-bedroom B&B.
00:20Four expert judges put them under the spotlight.
00:24Slightly chaotic, as they say, up north.
00:27The competition has been so tough this week.
00:29They did drop the ball pretty, pretty, pretty badly.
00:33Whoa!
00:34Across two weeks, they hosted real guests
00:36and tackled intense challenges every day.
00:40Whoa!
00:41Look at it. Stop asking me questions.
00:43I've posed it all up again.
00:45Right, we have a problem!
00:46At which point do we start to panic?
00:49Now, six couples have become four.
00:52No!
00:54Actually, actually...
00:56Thank you so much!
01:00This week, the final four will be pushed to their limits.
01:05They have to do everything right this week.
01:07The competition is fiercer than ever.
01:09Now you real owners are here.
01:11How do you spell team love?
01:12Breast forgotten tomatoes.
01:14Don't panic.
01:15Because at the end of this week, someone will walk away with a new life in France.
01:21You have won the bed and breakfast.
01:23You have won the bed and breakfast.
01:30Fenier, a rustic village tucked away in the limousin in central France.
01:34Where four couples are about to be put to the ultimate test.
01:39As they prove they have the skills needed to run a professional B&B.
01:44At the end of this week, one of them will walk away with the keys to a new home and business.
01:51We've grafted, haven't we, for God knows how many years to get what we've got.
01:56But this is what we want.
01:58We are going to put our heart and soul into this, aren't we?
02:01Childhood sweethearts from Barnsley, Michelle and Steve.
02:06How pretty is this?
02:08I am quite emotional about it all because it's our last chapter almost, isn't it, in our lives?
02:14It's not our last chapter, it's our destiny.
02:16Alright then.
02:18Chocolate box. It's like a chocolate box top.
02:21Yeah, and where the chocolate's in it.
02:25Belfast couple Nicole and Brett hope to start a new life with their young family.
02:31This journey has been like a whirlwind.
02:34I think we still need to pinch ourselves that we're in the final.
02:39Hello, how are you?
02:40Hello.
02:41How are you doing?
02:42How are you doing?
02:43We are really, really serious about moving to France and starting a new life here.
02:48We're just passionate about creating this family-run B&B.
02:53It'll be a dream come true.
02:55Devon Bakers, Nicola and Roy are looking to swap pasties for patisseries.
03:02The dream is absolutely alive for us right now.
03:05We wanted it before, but my God, we want it now.
03:07We wanted it more now.
03:08Oh yeah.
03:09I think it's our time of life and to be in charge of our own destiny and charge of our own business.
03:20I just, I'm so looking forward to the challenge.
03:23It's a big thing, isn't it?
03:24Are you scared?
03:25Are you scared?
03:29And design gurus from Hertfordshire partners Justin and Paul.
03:34It's come together and it's now, isn't it?
03:37Yeah.
03:38We're like, we're ready.
03:39Yeah.
03:40It's just time that we do it for ourselves.
03:42Hi guys!
03:44Hi guys!
03:46We're here all!
03:48If we put our heads together, there's amazing stuff.
03:52If we're given the financial opportunity to do it, then it's for real and it's bigger than ever.
03:58What do you think then to village?
04:00It's really nice.
04:01Beautiful, isn't it?
04:02It's really nice.
04:03Well, I can't wait to welcome you to our lovely home in the village.
04:07Watch this face!
04:09Four couples, one shared dream.
04:13The final showdown starts here.
04:16Oh, look.
04:17Hey, hey!
04:24Guys, welcome to finals week!
04:29You've done it!
04:31It's down to you, four couples.
04:33And here's the one.
04:37And one lucky couple will have a key to an amazing B&B in France at the end of the week.
04:43This could be the beginning of a new life in France, a new life entirely.
04:51Are you ready for this fight?
04:53Yeah.
04:54Are you up for the challenge?
04:56Absolutely!
04:57Bring it on!
05:00Who would like to see the dream house?
05:01Come on!
05:02Come on!
05:03Come on!
05:04You've been standing in front of it the whole time.
05:09Whoa!
05:10Oh, my God!
05:11This really is a life-changing moment.
05:23It's the most incredible prize.
05:26Who wants to see inside?
05:29Yes!
05:34Once a bustling village hotel, this five-bedroom, three-bathroom property now awaits the right
05:40hosts to write its next chapter.
05:43Oh, my God!
05:45It's even got a bow!
05:49Wow.
05:50Oh, wow.
05:51This is really nice, isn't it?
05:53I'm lost for words.
05:55I want it so, so bad.
05:57You know, be our family home.
06:03Oh, my God!
06:04Have you seen that?
06:05I'm going to cry.
06:08Oh, my God!
06:09You and me, we could be loving here.
06:11We will be loving here.
06:14On the ground floor, an open-plan reception and dining space, adjoining a traditional farmhouse
06:21kitchen with ample space for guests.
06:25I can just imagine me being here, can you?
06:27Yeah.
06:28Like, going into my ice.
06:29What do you like?
06:30Do you want to scramble, boil, poached?
06:33And there's surprises at every corner.
06:36It's a dungeon or something?
06:38That's like a wine cellar.
06:39Oh, a wine cellar!
06:40It is a wine cellar!
06:41I have never, ever, ever...
06:43A wine cellar?
06:44A wine cellar?
06:45Well, you wouldn't in Northern Ireland, love.
06:47Upstairs, the vastness of the property begins to unfold.
06:53Oh!
06:54Surprise!
06:56I guess this is just really playing into everything that we've been thinking about already,
06:59doesn't it?
07:00It's kind of bringing it even more to life.
07:03As well as a sitting room...
07:07It's a bit springy!
07:09...five exquisite bedrooms and three bathrooms.
07:13What's in here?
07:14Oh, dressing room!
07:16Wow!
07:17...a guest ready.
07:19Oh, God!
07:22Isn't this beautiful?
07:24Honestly, I love the area as well.
07:27I'd happily live out.
07:30The second floor reveals more rooms and attic space ripe for development.
07:36Oh, look.
07:37This is our suite.
07:38Are you thinking for us?
07:39Yeah.
07:40Is this our bedroom?
07:41All those pictures that we've collected of the French dream has finally come to realisation.
07:47If that wasn't enough, beyond the garden is this magnificent barn, giving infinite possibilities for their future business.
07:55I think what you could do in here.
07:57Oh, I know already.
07:59Small, intimate weddings.
08:00Yeah.
08:01I think this would be better as a cookery school or restaurant.
08:04I think space is good for gatherings.
08:07Yeah.
08:08To bring the community here.
08:09For us to get to know everyone.
08:10Yeah.
08:11Wouldn't this be nicest to eat, Steve?
08:13It'd be nice at a big garage.
08:15I don't think so.
08:18For all the finalists, the new life in France they've dreamed of is now tantalisingly close.
08:25The best dream you've ever had.
08:27Times this plus a million.
08:29And you still wouldn't get close to this.
08:31It is fabulous.
08:32It's huge.
08:33And there's so much potential here.
08:35It's going to be amazing.
08:37It makes us think we can do this.
08:40Make our hopes and dreams even bigger than we thought.
08:43We can imagine living here.
08:45Running a B&B in this beautiful village.
08:48This is it, innit?
08:49This is what we want.
08:50This is the lie.
08:54But the hosts can't get too carried away.
08:57To win this B&B, they must prove they have the passion,
09:00skill and vision to make it thrive.
09:03And the judges have set the ultimate challenge.
09:07Oh no.
09:09Here we go.
09:10Here we go again.
09:11Do you think that might be a late birthday card?
09:14Throw that away.
09:16A golden envelope.
09:17Let's have a little read.
09:18Each couple will run the prize house for 24 hours.
09:22You will get the keys at 1pm on the day of check-in.
09:25While you're hosting at B&B, you will have three bedrooms occupied by guests.
09:30You'll need to provide a three-course dinner at 6.30pm and we ask you eat with your guests.
09:37We would also ask if you could provide a welcome gift in the rooms, something that reminds the judges who you are from the heat weeks.
09:48They'll never forget us anyway, will they?
09:50Breakfast must be served the following day at 8.30pm and the guests must check out at 10am.
09:56After checkout, you will host an excursion for your guests doing an activity that relates to your B&B USP.
10:05For the rest of the week, you will be sampling the local area to get inspiration for your business plan.
10:13And at the end of the week, you'll present a business plan for your B&B to the judges.
10:18The judges' challenge is designed to push them further than ever and reveal which couple has what it takes to make a success.
10:31The hosts may think that this week's going to be a walk in the park, but they've got a very, very short window of time to prove just how good they are.
10:43We need to know what their USP is. How are they going to make a business like this work? Do they suit this area?
10:51They need to find that one thing or those few things that are really going to drive people to them to have a buoyant business especially.
11:01It's a really crowded market out there. You've got to stand out in it somehow. So that's what they've got to work out.
11:09For three couples, the race is on to uncover what the area has to offer and build a business plan to impress the judges.
11:19But one couple are about to take the reins of the prize house and guess who's coming for dinner?
11:26Your guests will be judges Nicola, Eva, Andrew and Brennan.
11:29Oh brilliant. Your favourite boys. Oh my god, I can't believe it.
11:34It's Nicola and Roy's time to shine and the stakes couldn't be higher.
11:40Just 24 hours to rise to the challenge or see their dreams slip away.
11:4490% of the time I feel really confident that we'll do it. And then 10% will go all by and think we'll never do this.
11:52I know but I can't help it because I doubt it sometimes.
11:55Look at that beautiful home we're going to get.
11:57You hope we're going to get it.
11:59Well, I'll get it. I hope so.
12:00It's finals week in the Limousin and the competition to win this prize of a lifetime is ramping up.
12:16Over the next four days, each host will take up residence here for 24 hours and host the judges as their guests.
12:24This week, the focus won't be on changeovers or room inspections, but the host's hospitality skills to help the judges decide who is best suited to call this place home.
12:39You only rarely get to know somebody when you spend time with them and spend time in their home.
12:44But then, of course, in 24 hours, it's a tall order to impress us, but I'm not so worried personally about branding or what they're doing.
12:56I now want to see what they are like as hosts.
13:00There's going to be nowhere to hide this week.
13:03We want to look for passionate couples who are eager to win this house and brand it as a B&B and really want to do this.
13:10It's the people that make it, and if you don't feel warm and comfortable with the people, you're not going to tell your friends about it and you're not going to go back.
13:22Nicola and Roy are first to take the reins.
13:26They're out shopping at a local market in preparation for an intense day ahead.
13:31I need some more veg.
13:34Oh, there's some veg down there.
13:35Yeah.
13:36Providing dinner for guests is a vital income source for B&Bs.
13:42The judges are looking for who can provide a meal and an atmosphere that keeps guests coming back.
13:48Thank you for your time.
13:50Merci.
13:52Oh, applesauce.
13:53In Heat Week, these hosts came under fire for not living up to their titles as chefs.
13:59So Nicola and Roy must now prove that they've listened to feedback with a menu rooted in culinary skills and classic French tradition.
14:07I think we've learned a lot in the Heat Week. I really do mean that.
14:12We've never done it before, but I know where we tripped up and we'll definitely not trip up this week.
14:18We know there was a few mistakes last time, but this time we're far better prepared.
14:25You don't do black pudding?
14:27Black pudding?
14:28Black pudding?
14:29No, I don't.
14:31I think the biggest improvement is the locally sourced food.
14:35We really slipped up on that, but we want to be able to go to the table and present the judges with meals and say,
14:40this is from a local butchers.
14:43Bonjour.
14:44Bonjour.
14:45I speak English. You're all right?
14:46OK, that's good.
14:48Thank goodness for that.
14:49Thank goodness for that.
14:51Do you do Toulouse sausage meat?
14:54We're making cassoulet, sausage cassoulet.
14:57We're trying to make sure we look for locally sourced ingredients as much as possible.
15:02They're local.
15:03Simon, my other half, he does all the butchering.
15:06We're only about 15 minutes down the road.
15:08Oh, very good.
15:10We can't get much locally than that.
15:11No, definitely not.
15:13Everyone might describe us as lovely, but being lovely isn't going to win the competition.
15:17We've got to work hard to really impress them.
15:20I have a few things up my sleeve, a couple of game changers.
15:25So, yeah, we'll have the mystery do its work.
15:29That will win your judges over.
15:30And we will come and show up with you when we win our B&B.
15:33Yeah, we will. Take care. Bye-bye.
15:35The judges will be pleased with local produce, yeah.
15:38They'll be looking for that most important.
15:40They will be looking for it.
15:41Yeah, definitely.
15:44As Nicola and Roy begin the 24 hours that could change their lives,
15:49Michelle and Steve are kick-starting their research of the area.
15:52They're going to check into a successful B&B to find out how to survive in a crowded market.
16:02I wonder what sort of B&B it is.
16:04I know.
16:05Do you know what I mean?
16:06Is it a posh one?
16:07Is it just a normal one?
16:10I'm getting a bit jittery.
16:13Michelle and Steve have stood out in the competition for their originality.
16:18Now they need to turn that into a business plan.
16:21This luxury treehouse, built in the grounds of a chateau by Nat and Andy,
16:26shows how being unique can really sell.
16:29Hello!
16:30Wow!
16:32Hello!
16:34Hi, nice to meet you.
16:35How are you?
16:36Hi, Natalie.
16:37Shall we show you on up?
16:38Show you how you're staying?
16:39Yes, exciting!
16:41Well, not in the chateau.
16:43Sorry!
16:49Is this it?
16:50Yeah.
16:51Oh, my God!
16:52Look at this!
16:53How unique is that?
16:55Right, come on, let's have a look round then.
17:00I love that.
17:01Have you made it?
17:02Yeah!
17:03Yeah!
17:04Wow!
17:05This is what I do.
17:06This is my bit.
17:07Yeah, the decor.
17:08Andy does all the...
17:10Handy bits, yeah.
17:12Oh, Steve!
17:14Oh, this is amazing.
17:15Oh, look at this for kids.
17:17Mind your head, Steve.
17:18Wow.
17:19I'll tell you what, it's clever.
17:20Yeah.
17:21If we're not moving out, we're stopping.
17:23So we'll leave you to get settled in and we'll check back in with you a bit later on.
17:28Enjoy!
17:29Thank you very much!
17:30Thank you!
17:31Thank you!
17:32It's luxury.
17:33The champagne.
17:34Yeah.
17:35With the...
17:36Ball of fruit, fresh flowers.
17:37Yeah!
17:38It's just enough.
17:39Of course it is.
17:40It's that thought that's gone into it.
17:41I love this touch.
17:42I do.
17:43Because this touch happens in posh hotels...
17:45Yeah, it does.
17:46...and cruise ships.
17:47Yeah, it does.
17:48So we're going to pinch that idea.
17:50As a team, they've really come together good because he builds it and she does all the interior.
17:55Bit like us, really.
17:57While Michelle and Steve gather ideas for their dream...
18:02For Nicola and Roy, their one chance of making it a reality begins now, as they take the keys to the prize house.
18:10Home sweet home.
18:11Yay!
18:12I'm packing, get started.
18:13Yeah.
18:14In just three hours, the judges will be knocking at their door.
18:15Oh!
18:16Put it on there.
18:17Tonight, they'll be tested on their cooking and hosting skills, but there's no room for error.
18:33Their unique selling point is very, very important.
18:38You've got to have a really, really pinpointed message about who you're marketing to.
18:43Roy's a baker.
18:44Yeah, I'd love to see some baking happen and I'd love to see that tied in to their USP.
18:51Our welcome gift is our soda breads with homemade strawberry jam.
18:57Because last time we did the cookery class, we made soda bread.
19:01But, stupidly, we didn't put it out the next morning for breakfast.
19:07They have a skill set, which we didn't really get to see as much of as we thought we would.
19:13You know, Roy is a professional baker.
19:15And Nicola's a very good cook.
19:17But what we saw in the heats was Nicola baking and Roy cooking.
19:21Yeah, I couldn't really work that one out.
19:23Right.
19:24What are you for you to make?
19:26I was going to do the soda bread and the scones, but you're going to do the scones?
19:29I'm doing the soda bread and the scones, which we discussed earlier.
19:32They'll have you in the kitchen doing this.
19:35How do you spell team, love?
19:37That's right, there's no I in it.
19:39I'll do the scones.
19:41I'm meant to be the chef.
19:42Why don't you do the scones then?
19:44You got my recipe?
19:47Sticker recipe.
19:48You're a huffy.
19:50I think there was a lot of bickering the last time.
19:54That's because they were doing it the wrong way around.
19:56Yeah, I know.
19:57Oh, now I'm happy.
19:59I can feel the flour.
20:01A weirdo.
20:03You really are a weirdo.
20:05In finals week, the rooms are prepped and guest ready.
20:09Because the judges aren't testing their cleaning, it's their hosting, warmth and culinary skills that are up for scrutiny.
20:15I'll start on the creme valise.
20:18I wouldn't try and press ever.
20:20She's French.
20:21I'm a bit too scared.
20:22I won't even ask if she likes it or not.
20:24While Nicola and Roy are knee deep in dinner prep, Justin and Paul are out gathering key information to set their business plan apart.
20:34The key thing is you have to know where you're living.
20:39Certainly can't set up a business and advise people as to where to go and what to do if you don't know it.
20:45They've made no secret of wanting a design-led B&B and just 30 minutes from the prize house is Aubusson.
20:54This town is world famous for its tapestry and they're keen to make connections at the Aubusson Tapestry Museum.
21:02Hello.
21:03Hi.
21:04I'm Justin.
21:05I'm Jean-Philippe.
21:06Nice to meet you both.
21:07Nice to meet you.
21:08Here in Aubusson, we have this long tradition of tapestry making.
21:12In the museum, we have more than almost 60,000 visitors.
21:16So it's like one of the main visiting sites here.
21:18We're super excited to get a tour around.
21:24You have here the most ancient tapestry of our collection.
21:28This one dates from actually the 15th century.
21:31Amazing, isn't it?
21:32Some very iconic imagery as well.
21:34You will see when we go across that we will have more colours, we'll have more details
21:38and you will see up to the maximum power, I would say, of the tapestry medium.
21:43You do have to remind yourself that it's a needle and thread rather than paint and a brush.
21:49To think it's here, really this tiny little town, it's really fantastic.
21:55But it's the museum's contemporary collections that are sparking ideas for both their creativity and their business plan.
22:03It almost looks like, to me, you know, like a spray painting.
22:07A new project with Oscar-winning Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki could be set to bring international tourism to the area and the door of their B&B.
22:19People were always amazed that we are collaborating with Studio Ghibli because now we have kids, young kids, and they are the ones that bring their parents.
22:27Which I think would be really interesting for us because then it gives us the opportunity to broaden our audience.
22:35So here you see the weaving of the fifth tapestry from the Miyazaki project.
22:41Everything is handmade, so they are going to do 31 square meters like this.
22:46Wow.
22:47So there will be a big unveiling in Aubusson at the Cité next summer.
22:52So that will be good for us, won't it?
22:54Yeah.
22:55To draw in guests.
22:56Yes, exactly.
22:57If we win the B&B.
22:58Especially Japanese tourists, so I hope we learn Japanese by then.
23:00Yeah.
23:01Because it's going to be loved.
23:02As well as French.
23:03Exactly.
23:05It was incredible.
23:06Anybody that's interested in the creative fields would love this.
23:10And it connects as well with us, doesn't it?
23:12Yeah.
23:13And what we've researched and what we want to bring to the table.
23:16It's a weaving distance.
23:17Weaving distance.
23:18I like that one.
23:24Meanwhile, at the prize house.
23:27Voila.
23:28It's the calm before the storm for Nicola and Roy.
23:32Rubbing up the soda breads for the judges.
23:35With a little message on it.
23:37Do you want to read one out?
23:38We're not trying to butter you up, but you really are the loaf of Roy's life.
23:45I think it's a cracker.
23:46It's brilliant.
23:47Love it.
23:48But very soon, they'll be welcoming the most important guests of their lives.
23:54I'm excited who's in the judges tonight.
23:57But we have to be professional and friendly.
24:00These guys do it for a living.
24:01We're only starting it.
24:02These guys could change our lives.
24:03Well, absolutely.
24:07What time is it?
24:08It's a quarter to four.
24:11The countdown is over.
24:13The time to be ready is now.
24:15Good.
24:16I need to go up to the rooms before they come.
24:19The judges are already on their way.
24:22And Nicola and Roy's destiny rests entirely with them.
24:26The pressure's really on for them now.
24:30Emotions will be running high.
24:32They've only got 24 hours to prove they're the ones that need to be here.
24:36Roy!
24:37The oven went off.
24:38The pastry's all sunk on with tomatoes.
24:39It's make or break this week for them.
24:40So, either they'll be the winners or they'll be going home empty-handed.
24:41There's four very different couples.
24:42Each one could potentially win this.
24:43Yeah.
24:44And at this point, it's...
24:45It's anybody's game.
24:46It's anybody's game.
24:47I wouldn't like to be in their shoes at the moment.
25:01So, grab it and go for it, exactly.
25:08No, don't open it.
25:09It's going too quick.
25:10I know, but it's going too quick.
25:11Roy, it hasn't even started.
25:12The oven went off because the timer stopped.
25:26In the limousine, it's Nicola and Roy's time to shine
25:29as the intense scrutiny begins.
25:32We're all together.
25:33Hello.
25:34Hello there.
25:35Welcome in.
25:37Welcome to our house.
25:39Good to see you.
25:40Hello.
25:41Good to see you.
25:42What do you think?
25:43Oh, absolutely beautiful.
25:44Couldn't ask for more.
25:45Can you pick on yourself living in the house?
25:47Yes.
25:48Absolutely.
25:49We've moved in, that's it.
25:50Their warm hosting style carried them to the finals.
25:54So, will we check into your rooms then?
25:55Yeah.
25:56Fabulous.
25:57Yeah.
25:58But now the judges want proof.
26:00They have the fire to turn it into a business.
26:03This is your room tonight.
26:05Oh, lovely.
26:06Oh, fantastic.
26:07And your own bathroom.
26:09Oh, sweet.
26:10Excellent.
26:11And some little, there's some water for you
26:12and some homemade treats from us.
26:14Oh, thank you.
26:15We'll let you settle into your room
26:16and we've got scones and tea and coffee downstairs
26:18when you're...
26:19Oh, fantastic.
26:20Homemade.
26:22Of course.
26:23What we like to hear.
26:24Nicola and Roy are putting their culinary skills front and centre,
26:29a tactic that nearly derailed them in heat week.
26:34And this is your room, Eva?
26:35This is your room.
26:36Oh, lovely.
26:37So, there's no en-suite but the bathroom's just next door,
26:39it's a shared bathroom.
26:40And there's your little water station again.
26:42Oh, thank you.
26:43Well, that's Soda Bread.
26:44Oh, you made it.
26:45Well, Nicola made it.
26:46That's very nice.
26:47That's very thoughtful.
26:49So, we'll let you settle in
26:51and then you can come downstairs
26:53and we've got homemade scones and tea and coffee.
26:55Oh, I love scorn.
26:56Can't wait.
26:57Alrighty, you're welcome.
26:59See you later.
27:00Bye.
27:01Hi, Nicola.
27:02This is your room, Eva.
27:03This is your room.
27:04This is lovely.
27:05Soda Bread.
27:07Oh, and it's got a message on us.
27:09This bread isn't sweet
27:12but we hope it's up to your high standards.
27:16Thank you very much.
27:17Whenever you're getting packed
27:18or whatever's settling,
27:19just come on down when you're ready.
27:20I'll let you go.
27:21Okay?
27:22Thank you so much.
27:23Alright, take care.
27:24Gorgeous smells coming from up those stairs.
27:26Oh, good.
27:28Oh, the little welcome list is incredibly welcome,
27:31especially with scones as well downstairs, I feel.
27:34We've been quite spoilt.
27:39Nicola.
27:40Nicola.
27:41Oh, Nicola.
27:42Ready for a cup?
27:44I'm definitely ready for a cuppa.
27:46A pot of tea there for you.
27:48Hello.
27:49How are you?
27:50Good, thank you.
27:51I smell coffee.
27:54The scones coming in, the baking, the smell of cooking in the house.
27:57It's their signature, isn't it?
27:58Yeah.
27:59Yeah.
28:00And it's such an engaging signature.
28:03It's welcoming.
28:04They really do give off the vibe that we've known them forever.
28:08Your scones are delicious.
28:09I need jam.
28:10They're lovely.
28:11So I've got a question for you, Nicola, about the jams.
28:12Is this something that you do at home?
28:14It is.
28:15So when I make them at home, and people buy them,
28:17or friends have them and stuff, and yeah,
28:19it's always that little jam.
28:20Jummy.
28:21Jummy co-creations.
28:22I think they've really improved from week one, actually.
28:26They felt really comfortable and at ease,
28:28and it just felt like they were running their own business
28:31in their own home, I think, which makes such a big difference.
28:34I'm just really excited to see what's next.
28:37Are we allowed to ask, what's for dinner?
28:39Yes.
28:40For dinner is a starter of tart a tan.
28:43Oh!
28:44For mains, it's sausage cassoulet.
28:47And then dessert is...
28:49Creme brulee.
28:50You don't want to put pressure on your shoulders, Roy,
28:53but I eat creme brulee at least once a week through work,
28:56because it's something we benchmark as part of the rosette assessment,
28:59so if there's a creme brulee on the menu...
29:02Nicola and Roy aren't the only ones hoping to charm with afternoon tea.
29:11Oh, you love me.
29:12I love a good chai tea.
29:14Yeah, this will be a good one for you.
29:15All your different flavours.
29:17I know.
29:18Down the road, Nicole and Brett are visiting a flower farm
29:22to brew unique ideas for their own B&B.
29:27Bonjour.
29:28Bonjour.
29:29Bonjour.
29:30I'm Nicole, nice to meet you.
29:31Christian, welcome.
29:32Christian and...
29:33Aurélie, nice to meet you.
29:34Aurélie.
29:35Welcome to the farm.
29:36Oh, thank you.
29:37We can go with me to harvest a flower and make a tea after.
29:41Oh, lovely.
29:42Brilliant, yeah.
29:43Lovely.
29:44That sounds exciting.
29:45Following the success of their chai tea welcome gift in heat week,
29:50they're keen to see how French botanics could give them an advantage.
29:54This is so pretty, isn't it?
29:56Yeah, this is really nice.
29:57Wow.
29:58There's so much variety here.
30:00Yes, 50 variety of plants.
30:02Wow.
30:03You don't come here just for see the farm.
30:06Okay.
30:07You come for work.
30:08Oh, he's putting us to work now then.
30:10We're hard workers.
30:11We're very hard workers.
30:13Slowly.
30:14So, do you sell the teas at the local markets then?
30:21How do you sell?
30:22We work with boutiques.
30:24Lovely.
30:25Working with local producers like Aurélie and Tristan could be the key to a business plan
30:32that impresses the judges and swings the competition in their favour.
30:37And your family, it's okay to come to France?
30:40Yes, and our children, they're 10 and 7 in August.
30:44It's okay.
30:45And right now they're learning French.
30:47Ah, yes.
30:48They're learning French, so they, yeah, they want to come.
30:51I can see your basket.
30:52Yeah.
30:53Good guy, it's okay.
30:55We go to the drawer?
30:56Yes, of course.
30:57Okay.
30:58As part of the USP for the B&B, Nicole and Brett are keen to blend their Indian and Sri Lankan heritage
31:05with a French future they see for themselves.
31:08I love Indian chai tea.
31:11What kind of leaf or plant could I add a special touch with?
31:15You can add roses.
31:17Oh, lovely.
31:18Rose, it's a balance for the chai tea.
31:20Oh, and they're really pretty as well.
31:23The reasons why we're going to move here with our children as a family because we want to buy into that French culture and source all of our goods from the locals.
31:32For a perfect herbal tea, you need to break the leaf.
31:37So break it up.
31:38Tea tasting days will happen in our Salle du Fais that we aim to convert the barn into a local community hub that everyone can come.
31:49Santé.
31:50Santé.
31:51Santé.
31:52Oh, wow.
31:53There's so much flavour.
31:54It's very refreshing.
31:56We really learnt lots today.
31:58They're so friendly and we're really passionate about tea making and that's one of the things that I want to get across.
32:03I'm passionate when I serve a cup of tea because it's just made with love.
32:07Back in Fenier.
32:11Cheers, me dears.
32:13Cheers.
32:14Santé.
32:15It's crunch time for Nicola and Roy as dinner is put under the microscope.
32:20I'm not worried about dinner but I just want everything to be like, because they're all so nice, I just want everything to be absolutely perfect.
32:27And I don't want anything to go wrong.
32:29This is where Roy's meant to say, nothing will go wrong.
32:33Nothing will go wrong, darling.
32:35Nothing will go wrong.
32:37I need to try this tart.
32:39With good home cooking central to their B&B's USP, it's vital their French-inspired menu hits the mark.
32:48Oh my God, that's a die-bore.
32:50I am on fire.
32:53The hosts are giving it everything they've got.
33:00I'm so happy.
33:01I'm tearing.
33:02Good luck for tonight.
33:03You'll need it.
33:06But at this stage in the competition, the judges won't be holding back.
33:12Hello, folks.
33:13Hello, Roy.
33:14Are you hungry?
33:15Yes, we are.
33:16Absolutely.
33:17Well, the table's set, the food's ready, so be prepared to join us.
33:20Thank you very much.
33:21Fabulous.
33:22Maybe my only concern for Roy and Nicola is that it's so lovely, but have they got the gumption to really fight for this?
33:31Go ahead, follow Roy.
33:34Because I want to see proper cooking. I don't want to see easy cooking. And I know that we did say that less is sometimes more, but actually I was lying.
33:45Cool.
33:47Here we go.
33:48Now we have starters, folks.
33:50Ooh.
33:51Roy is a chef. It's what he does every day. So I think I'm expecting even more from him.
33:58So, welcome to your potential B&B.
34:02Welcome to France.
34:03Best of luck, guys.
34:06The awkwardness of meeting you first and the scariness we didn't have at this time because we met you.
34:11Of course.
34:12You don't know what's coming.
34:18You did that very well.
34:20It's a long week.
34:32In the limousine, at the prize house, the first dinner of the finals is under scrutiny.
34:37It's tomato tart tartan and the tomatoes are from the local market.
34:42It's delicious. It's so sweet.
34:46Those tomatoes are so flavoursome.
34:48Tonight, it's Nicola and Roy's only shot at wowing the judges and proving they've got the skills to make this incredible property their own.
34:57I think what's been lovely so far is that you've really treated us like returning guests.
35:01And even though we've never actually stayed with you, it just felt like we were returning guests.
35:05I hadn't actually thought if you hadn't stayed with us before.
35:07You're like different people here.
35:09Really? Yeah.
35:10We've actually seen more of your personalities, which is fantastic to see that.
35:14I mean, you know we're vegetarian, right?
35:15Yeah.
35:16I'm thinking of the answer that we got yesterday, I'm thinking, it didn't say, it didn't say.
35:24Quick, run in and get them saucy.
35:28Nicola and Roy's hosting skills are going down well, but with cooking central to their B&B, there's no room for anything less than perfection.
35:38Oh, focaccia?
35:40Yeah, well it's a focaccia with a twist.
35:42Wow.
35:43It's a Belfast souderbred focaccia and it's got rosemary and drizzled with olive oil.
35:48Is that a recipe you've tested before?
35:50Yeah.
35:51Yeah?
35:52Many, many times.
35:56Wow, that looks great.
35:59So the sausages are from a local farm and the girl has a farm 15 minutes up the road.
36:05That's good.
36:06Mmm.
36:07It's really good.
36:09I'm seriously enjoying this.
36:11It's very tasty, very wholesome, very rustic, very French.
36:16It's really good.
36:19Question about the property.
36:20Yeah, yeah.
36:21Do you feel like it's yours?
36:22It is?
36:23I do.
36:24Stop it, you don't like to say that.
36:25We feel very at home.
36:26We feel very at home.
36:27Yeah.
36:28No, I'm going to be honest.
36:29Whenever we first approached the property, we got very emotional.
36:32Mmm.
36:33We saw it.
36:34I think this house is hugely overwhelming.
36:37Yeah.
36:38At the end of this week, someone's going to have this.
36:40I mean, it's going to be, and that's life changing.
36:43It's not even like...
36:44Imagine what it's like for us.
36:45Yeah.
36:46It's got to be that we think in two years' time, this is a viable business with whoever
36:50is at the helm.
36:51Yeah.
36:52We need to believe that the people that win this are going to sustain it.
36:57Yeah.
36:58Yeah.
37:00While Nicola and Roy are grilled over dinner, nearby Michelle and Steve are settling into
37:05the Treehouse B&B, where inspiration is striking for their prize house plans.
37:10My idea, this one.
37:11So, upstairs, in the attic area, right, because Steve's good at this sort of thing.
37:19Yeah.
37:20We're going to recreate this.
37:22This.
37:23So, this is the family, self-contained flat.
37:26So, they've got the kitchen bit, they've got the bathroom, but the kids!
37:32And there, the den!
37:34And the money you can bring in for this.
37:38It's amazing, isn't it?
37:39Yeah.
37:40I'm buzzing with this.
37:41Yeah.
37:42Because it is quite unique, this.
37:43It will be unique.
37:44Hey, guys!
37:45It's also a chance for Michelle and Steve to put some questions to their own hosts.
37:52You've got two of these.
37:54Yeah.
37:55So, is it different pricing?
37:56That's what I want to ask.
37:57No.
37:58The pricing's the same.
37:59Right.
38:00Because the occupancy's the same, so it's two adults and two kids in each.
38:03Oh, right.
38:04What do you charge for these, then?
38:06Well, it depends.
38:07Is it dependent on time of year?
38:10Yeah.
38:11Right, okay, then.
38:12You can rent out, like, a chicken coop in August.
38:14Yeah.
38:15It's just any...
38:16Yes.
38:17Everybody's looking for accommodation.
38:18Yes.
38:19But to get outside of that, you know, you've got to sort of be a bit more creative.
38:23Is it the dream that you wanted it to be?
38:25Yeah.
38:26Yeah, it is.
38:27It's definitely been the dream we were, like, hunting for, wasn't it?
38:29Yeah.
38:30I think we've achieved what we set out to achieve.
38:31Which is amazing.
38:32Yeah.
38:33But it's...
38:34It's challenging, but it is rewarding.
38:36Yeah.
38:37It's an amazing place.
38:38It's inspired us.
38:39Yes.
38:40Thank you very much.
38:41See you later.
38:42Bye.
38:43Bye-bye.
38:45Interrogation over, it's time for dinner.
38:48Again, delivered in Nat and Andy's unique style.
38:54Bon appetit!
38:55Yes.
38:57Oh, that's posh in it.
38:58Watch that baguette don't get stuck.
39:00Go on, grab it.
39:01I'll grab it.
39:02Ooh.
39:03It's heavy.
39:04Oh, I love this, Steve.
39:05Look at this.
39:06Oh, my word.
39:07Look at that.
39:08Wow.
39:09Cheers.
39:10Cheers.
39:11You're not used to that, are you?
39:13Yeah.
39:14Could you tell her?
39:16Cheers and ears to winning it.
39:18Ears to winning it.
39:19We've got this, haven't we, Steve?
39:20Go, girl.
39:21Can I drink it now?
39:22Yeah.
39:23Yeah.
39:24Yeah.
39:25While Michelle and Steve enjoy a relaxing evening, across at the prize house...
39:30Ava says she actually looks forward to the crunch.
39:34Tension is mounting.
39:36I'm a bit nervous because we've had a judge that eats it every day, you know, for her job.
39:44Nicola and Roy are about to serve their final course.
39:47There's no power of this thing.
39:49You can just turn it up.
39:50You can turn it up there.
39:51Let's sit up.
39:52How is it?
39:53Oh, that's ridiculous.
39:56It's the moment of truth for the couple.
39:59Oh, sweet things are coming.
40:02I do apologise because, um, I didn't have the proper, uh...
40:07Blotage.
40:08Blotage.
40:09Is that what you found in the house?
40:10That's what I found in the house.
40:11Yeah.
40:16That's cracking, that is.
40:18That's very good.
40:19That's very good.
40:20I'm impressed.
40:21Do you know what?
40:22The whole dinner's been a great crack.
40:24Very good.
40:25Mmm.
40:26Nice.
40:27There's a lot of silence.
40:36Is everything okay, folks?
40:37It is.
40:38I'm going to ask a question.
40:39Did you bake the brulee?
40:42Yeah.
40:43You did.
40:44The brulee's overcooked.
40:45It's sort of gone like scrambled eggs instead of the smooth texture it should be.
40:50Yeah.
40:51Yeah.
40:52You've practised it for so long and you've practised it on the dishes you had at home with the oven you've got at home.
40:58Please don't stress about the dessert.
41:00Do you know what?
41:01None of us like creme brulee anyway.
41:03As day one of finals week draws to a close.
41:10The kids would just love it here, wouldn't they?
41:12Yeah, they really would.
41:14For three sets of hosts, it's been a chance to see what their dream life could look like.
41:21Merci.
41:22Merci.
41:23It's a new life in France.
41:26Cheers.
41:27Oh, my word.
41:28It's all right, what did you get in?
41:29Oh, God!
41:32Oh, Steve, this is the life, innit?
41:34Yeah.
41:35What are you doing?
41:36I'm...
41:37I'm getting comfy.
41:40It's only an octub, love.
41:42I know we're not used to an octub.
41:44No way.
41:45No.
41:46But for Nicola and Roy, the pressure has been real.
41:50As they began their battle to prove they're the hosts who belong in this house.
41:56So, I think this evening's been a great success.
41:58Yeah.
41:59They enjoyed the company.
42:00They thoroughly enjoyed the company and enjoyed the food, so...
42:03I thought, well, they said they did.
42:05Yeah.
42:06Whether they did or not, yeah.
42:07Well, I don't think they would hold back, Nicola.
42:08No, I don't think they would at this stage of the game.
42:10Yes, yeah.
42:11It's, yeah.
42:12I think we've done okay.
42:14For now, they've done all they can.
42:16But only the judges can decide if it's enough.
42:21We checked in with them this afternoon, and I think we can all agree.
42:24It was like staying with good friends.
42:27Or an auntie and uncle.
42:28Just felt so relaxed and at ease as soon as we entered the house.
42:31Like, we'd been there before, and it was so nice to see them again.
42:34Genuinely, it was.
42:35And I think we all discussed as well that the house is nothing without the hosts.
42:40100%.
42:41It definitely brings soul, and they're really very much the heart of the house.
42:46It was like a home-cooked meal.
42:48I would have preferred the pastry of the tomato tartin to be a bit more crispy, but it was delicious.
42:56And then there was the little creme brulee problem.
42:58It didn't matter.
42:59You know, we all make mistakes when we're doing home cooking, and it isn't a cookery contest.
43:04Exactly.
43:05Even though we forgive him for the creme brulee and are 100% forgiven, we need to take into account the goods and the bars.
43:11Excellent welcome.
43:12Mm-hmm.
43:13Sense of feeling at home.
43:14It was the right kind of hospitality, the right kind of approach for a rural B&B.
43:19The one thing that we had really, really pushed Roy and Nicola to show us this time round was less humbleness and more oomph.
43:29We definitely got that.
43:30And we got that.
43:31I just feel charmed.
43:35But Nicola and Roy aren't safe yet.
43:38Three other couples want this just as badly.
43:41Tomorrow is their final chance to show they have what it takes, and the smallest slip could cost them this prize of a lifetime.
43:51I don't feel so wobbly now, but tomorrow that could all change.
43:55One thing will go wrong with breakfast and I'll be all wobbly again.
43:58It's not going to go wrong.
43:59Nothing's going to go wrong.
44:00It's going to go wrong.
44:02We've got breakfast tomorrow and an excursion.
44:06Can they sustain this charm?
44:09Breakfast was their one foible the last time. Let's see how they do this time.
44:13It's going to be an interesting week.
44:15It certainly is.
44:18Next time.
44:19It's wowsers.
44:21The hosts are out and about.
44:24It seems bigger than our first flat.
44:26Okay.
44:27But emotions run high at the B&B.
44:30Crap.
44:31Breast forgotten tomatoes.
44:33I had a cry.
44:34We look good.
44:35Revolting.
44:36Give us a hug we go.
44:37And the judges aren't holding anything back.
44:42They're sweet.
44:43They're very sweet.
44:44That's not enough.
44:45Let's make your eyes open.
44:46Sounds enough.
44:47Let's do it.
44:48Let's eat it.
