00:00Today on Media Miss Minute, a Trump-backed California gubernatorial candidate says
00:04most children should not have smartphones. Plus, the West Virginia governor vetoes foster care
00:10and health care bills, saying they're unaffordable after approving a tax cut.
00:17I'm Craig DeGrali. In today's Media Miss Minute, we're looking at two stories
00:21largely ignored by partisan media outlets. Starting with the left, Steve Hilton, the Trump-backed
00:28Republican running for governor of California, says he sees a world where kids under 16 don't
00:33have smartphones. He didn't go so far as to suggest a ban and said he would not use legislation or
00:40regulation to get there. Instead, Hilton said he would start by using the governor's platform to
00:45shift social norms surrounding smartphones. Now to the right, West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrissey
00:52says the state does not have enough money to expand foster care and health care programs.
00:58he vetoed bills that would do so. The problem, critics say, is that just days ago, Morrissey
01:04signed into law a bill that cut the state's personal income tax by five percent. The West
01:10Virginia Center on Budget and Policy says that reduction will save most residents about $145 a
01:16year, while the state will be giving up $230 million in annual revenue. For more stories missed or
