Man in his 20s dies from stab wounds in Hamilton, Newcastle

A man has died after being stabbed in Newcastle overnight. The victim, believed to be in his 20s, was treated by paramedics at the scene in Hamilton, and died later in hospital.

00:00I'm here in Beaumont Street in Hamilton, now that's part of suburban Newcastle.

00:07This street here is popular with foodies, a restaurant strip, but in the early hours

00:11of this morning it became a crime scene.

00:14Police say at 2.40am they were called to reports of a stabbing here in Beaumont Street near

00:21the corner of Lindsay Street.

00:23Now on arrival they say they found a man in his twenties, paramedics were here and they

00:29tried to revive him, but he died in hospital.

00:33Now police, with the help of the homicide squad, are investigating.

00:37They've spent this morning combing the area for clues, door knocking businesses, asking

00:43if there's any CCTV vision, as well as collecting forensic samples, blood spots, etc. near the

00:50crime scene.

00:51So this street, normally a bustling street, is off limits today.

00:55As I said, a crime scene declared, forensic officers really looking for clues as to what

01:01happened and when.
