Watch the premiere of Leviathan: Whale and Man on EarthX TONIGHT at 9|8c.

Leviathan dives deep into the mysteries of our oceans, exploring rare whale sightings, mass strandings, and shifting predator-prey dynamics, like great whites falling victim to orcas. As the balance of marine ecosystems falters, this one-off documentary examines the evolving relationship between whales and the oceans they inhabit.

From prehistoric reverence to industrial-scale whaling and today’s conservation efforts, Leviathan traces humanity’s complex history with these "monsters of the deep." Through compelling storytelling, it confronts tough questions: Why do we prioritize whales over other marine species? Is this approach harming broader ecosystems? And are our current conservation policies still effective in protecting our oceans?

00:02Thousands of years ago, in the late Paleolithic era,
00:07humans saw oceans as mysterious and dangerous.
00:16Whales symbolized supernatural forces and water spirits
00:20linked to gods, demons or protectors of waters.
00:32Myths and legends of phenomenal behemoths
00:35were passed down through generations.
00:39Whaling history goes back a long time,
00:42maybe as much as 8,000 years.
00:44Some people think it was on the Korean peninsula
00:46where the first evidence of whaling took place.
00:51There is evidence in petroglyphs on cave walls in Korea
00:55that as much as 8,000 years ago,
01:03people were taking whales from the ocean.
01:06Of course, they didn't have the equipment.
01:09They didn't have the seafaring vessels
01:13that could take them very far from the shore.
01:16But surely those petroglyphs are representing something
01:20that was actually happening.
01:21And it's thought perhaps in Japan
01:23that whaling might have been taking place
01:26even longer ago than that.
01:27For sure, 3,000 years ago on the Pacific coast,
01:32some of the indigenous tribes of America were already whaling.
01:36That's something is interesting.
01:37God ông!
01:38Will find it?
01:45Ohczynsic pulled!
