00:02This street in Harris Park just became a whole lot more colourful.
00:05As you can see the large-scale mural behind me that extends over a hundred metres reflects
00:10this suburb's evolution into Little India as it's known.
00:14The artists say the pieces reflect Indian and Australian heritage.
00:18The community has people who have been here for the longest time, people of Indian, South
00:23Asian communities as well as Lebanese communities and the criteria was how can we get their
00:29stories up on the wall and stories of past, present and future and blend it all together
00:35in a way that is really fun to look at.
00:38But at the same time if we look deeper there are lots of stories to uncover.
00:42The mural shows everything from the Parramatta mangroves and native wildlife to the bustling
00:47streets of the suburbs which host food markets.
00:50Artists consulted with community members to bring the vision to life and spent four weeks
00:54piecing it together.
00:55Also we ran a community paint day as well so that was one of the last things that we
00:59did.
00:59We had that all marked up and ready to go and we treated it a bit like a paint by
01:04numbers.
01:04So we already had the outlines marked up of the cockatoo and the paisleys and then the
01:08community came and we all painted together and they had a really great time so it was
01:13really nice just to get everyone involved in it.
01:15The whole community is very excited, very beautiful and who did this one is very great work.
01:23It truly represents Little India.
01:24This piece is part of a broader $3.5 million development by the Parramatta Council and Federal
01:29Government to bring this place to life and create a welcoming space.
01:34This piece is part of a beautiful space.
01:34You.
01:36You.
01:37You.
