"Why would you bring wasps in here?"
It's a question Nick Jordan gets every time he turns up at Parliament with a jarful of flying critters.
The answer could help horticulturalists and gardeners stay ahead of pest pressure, in what is shaping up to be a tougher-than-usual season for outdoor plants.

00:00We could just get your generic sort of your green, green aphid.
00:04We get green and black.
00:04They're the main, you know, the main aphids that we deal with.
00:09They're tiny.
00:11And these guys will just, we just get the range.
00:14So while we're not aware of the exact species,
00:18we know that these guys will be interested in them.
00:22So they're delivered in these vials.
00:25There's about a thousand in there.
00:27And they come in mummified aphid corpses.
00:34So they hatch out of the dead aphids.
00:37And then they'll run around and make more mummies.
00:42So they'll lay the eggs inside the young hatch
00:47and they'll eat their way out and find more aphids to do the same.
00:53They sort of swell up and become bronze.
00:56And they look pretty cool when it happens.
