00:00Is she from Big Sandy?
00:01No, she's not from Big Sandy.
00:02Oh, okay.
00:04Sports Radio 610 presents The Drive with Sterner and Kubelay.
00:13That's Lovie thinking everybody's from Big Sandy.
00:16I just said, yeah, my mom told me to make sure I'm nice to you.
00:19She's a big fan of yours.
00:21Oh, is she from Big Sandy?
00:22You think?
00:23I mean, man, you'd know.
00:26I'd imagine that Lovie Smith would have known me if my mother was from Big Sandy.
00:33Well, I mean, look.
00:34I'm just saying, like, I don't know how many people are in Big Sandy.
00:39I am just purely judging by what Big Sandy sounds like.
00:43It sounds like it's a place that if I was another black individual in the media like this,
00:50that he would have who I am.
00:53How many people do you think are in Big Sandy?
00:56I don't know.
00:57I'm going to guess about Big Sandy probably got about 27,000.
01:0432,000.
01:06It's a guess.
01:07I don't know.
01:08It says Big Sandy.
01:11As of the 2020 census, the town's population was 1,231.
01:18He would have definitely known you.
01:21It's in East Texas somewhere.
01:22Where is it at?
01:23Uh, where is that?
01:26Somewhere east of Longview.
01:27That's got Piney Woods written all over it.
01:30That's got Beast Texas written all over it, baby.
01:33E-A-S-T.
01:34There's a hot lane place that I used to eat at way back in the day.
01:38We're at far east.
01:40I mean.
01:41Man, you just shot the Texarkana over it.
01:43It looks like he ain't too far off Louisiana and Arkansas.
01:46He got some.
01:48He doesn't cross state lines.
01:49He doesn't drug that thing and cross state lines a time or two.
01:51I guarantee you.
01:52There is no way he would not have known me if I was from Big Sandy.
01:56One blinking red light.
01:59Big Sandy.
02:00Is that Hughley?
02:02Like, there's no way that he would not have known a Hughley.
02:06Well, let's be honest.
02:06There ain't no way he wouldn't have known Teresa.
02:08Is that Teresa's boy?
02:10Before getting to me.
02:11Hey, him and Teresa about the same age.
02:13Oh, he may have a couple years on Teresa.
02:15How old is Teresa?
02:15Man, chill out, man.
02:17I'm just telling you.
02:17How old is Teresa?
02:1968.
02:20Is she 68?
02:21Yeah.
02:21It's really about to 69.
02:23They may have been classmates.
02:25How old do you think Lovey is?
02:27I don't think Lovey is that old, is he?
02:28Oh, he's in his 70s, I bet.
02:30He's got kids older than you.
02:32I would bet he's close to it if he's not.
02:33I bet he's got kids.
02:34No, you're old.
02:35You're right.
02:35I think you're in the right bulb.
02:3767.
02:39They'd have been classmates.
02:40Hey, 67.
02:42He'll be 68.
02:44He'd have been stepping up a weight class.
02:46Teresa, one year older than him, man.
02:48I'm telling you.
02:48Yeah, Teresa from Big Sandy.
02:50Yeah, he'd known that.
02:51Your mama Teresa?
02:52That's what he said.
02:53Your mama Teresa?
02:53Your mama Teresa.
02:54Yeah, you're only.
02:55What was her maiden name?
02:57Johnson.
02:58Teresa Johnson?
02:59Yeah.
02:59Oh, I see it in your eyes, boy.
03:01I see it in your eyes.
03:02Yeah.
03:04Tell your mama I said hello now.
03:06No, he would have called her by her nickname.
03:08Her nickname growing up was Fee Baby.
03:10Fee Baby.
03:10Oh, you're talking about Fee Baby Teresa?
03:12Fee Baby Johnson.
03:13That's what they called it.
03:13Fee Baby Johnson.
03:15Fee Baby Johnson, that is great.
03:16Don't you call me that.
03:17That sounds like she may be from Big Sandy.
03:21Yeah, Fee Baby.
03:22Fee Baby Johnson.
03:23Oh, love you sitting over with the muscle mass of a 40-year-old talking about you.
03:28You talking about Fee Baby?
03:29Fee Baby Johnson.
03:30Is that Fee Baby Johnson your mama?
03:32Shepard's out.
03:34Fee Baby.
03:35That is great.
03:37Oh, yeah.
03:38Yeah.
03:38Was her mom named Felicia or something?
03:41No.
03:41Where did Fee Baby come from?
03:42I don't know.
03:44She also used to kick kids' ass, too.
03:47They called her the Queen of Hawthorne.
03:49That was the street they lived on.
03:50She used to whoop people's ass.
03:51I could see Teresa.
03:52Teresa looked like one that would whoop ass or two now.
03:55You know, sometimes divorce is a good thing.
03:57I've seen it from experience.
04:00I felt it.
04:01You talking about Teresa whooping ass or divorce being a good thing?
04:05For her, both.
04:09Whoop an ass and divorce, I'll tell you.
04:11There she is.
04:14Well, I'll never forget that bastard, Greg Johnson.
04:18Who's that?
04:20He got my ass beat one time.
04:22That was just, whew.
04:24I was supposed to have people at the house while Teresa's not home.
04:26I don't know if y'all had that rule.
04:28I had that one.
04:29Can't have people over the house.
04:31We kind of had it timed what time Teresa would get back.
04:34So, we'd be over the house, just hanging out.
04:36And then, as soon as we'd see around 4.50 come around, we'd just go out there to the
04:42front porch where I could hang out with her and just be sitting at the front porch.
04:47Nope.
04:47Teresa came home a little early that day.
04:50And we heard the garage come up and, bam, try to run him back out to the porch real quick.
04:55Obviously, she drove past and saw there wasn't a soul on that porch.
04:58When she got inside, y'all were on the porch, huh?
05:00Mm-hmm.
05:01Yeah.
05:01And she said, how y'all doing?
05:02Y'all been right here this whole time?
05:03Feed baby ain't no fool.
05:04Y'all been right here the whole time?
05:06And, I mean, we were 9 or 10.
05:10Yeah.
05:10Feed baby was born at 9, not last night.
05:12She looked.
05:13She, like, cornered Greg.
05:17And she got, like, in the way.
05:18She bullied your friend?
05:19She got to him.
05:20She said, Greg, I'm going to ask you this question.
05:22I want you to tell me the truth.
05:23She's already let me lie.
05:26She said, Greg, I want you to tell me the truth.
05:28Greg, were you in this house?
05:30And, like, she, like, shifted her body weight and stared Greg right in his eyes.
05:35And that bastard said, yes, ma'am, I was.
05:38Hey, see?
05:39Honest kid.
05:39She said, thank you, Greg.
05:41You can go ahead and take your bike and go ahead and go home.
05:43Ryan's not going to be able to come out and play today.
05:47You definitely weren't going to be riding with him.
05:49No, I wasn't.
05:50I was going to walk him down, though.
05:52Oh, wee, boy.
05:54Oh, my God.
05:55Caught one that day.
05:57Hmm.
05:58Trying to tell you.
06:00I didn't talk to Greg.
06:02I didn't talk to Greg for about a good week.
06:03She's hot.
06:04She shouldn't have.
06:05Greg got you an ass whooping.
06:06I would have lied.
06:06I would have lied easy.
06:08Nope.
06:09Yeah, man.
06:09She may have.
06:11Y'all would not have liked me as a friend.
06:13You'd have told the truth.
06:14Fee baby standing me in the face in her house?
06:16You bet you.
06:17You bet you.
06:17You bet you.
06:18Yes, Greg.
06:19Hey, y'all would have lied.
06:20Y'all would have lied to Astro Granny one time.
06:21Now, it might not have been a good lie, but I would have told Linda.
06:24No, I was not.
06:26I was right here on this porch.
06:28Yeah, she would have forever held that grudge.
06:30I hate to tell you.
06:31She would have forever held that grudge.
06:34That's pitiful.
06:34You tell that little lying bastard he ain't welcome over here.
06:37That's what would have happened.
06:39I mean, oh, yeah.
06:42Get the hell out of here.
06:43I would have said I really had to use the restroom or something,
06:46and I didn't want to do it in your grass, so I came in.
06:48Like, I would have come up with something.
06:50I wouldn't have just sat there if I was Greg and just.
06:53That's why I don't feel really bad about bullying him out of playing soccer.
06:56He was a really great soccer player, but we bullied him out of sync.
06:59Come on.
06:59You play soccer?
07:03Greg sounds like a loser.
07:05Greg, you going to play soccer?
07:07Really?
07:07Are you kidding me?
07:08All the cool kids are going to play no soccer.
07:10Come on, man.
07:11We don't play no damn soccer.
07:13Cool, Gregory.
07:14That stupid ass.
07:15Our dumb ass is saying that to him.
07:17I didn't feel bad.
07:18I really didn't.
07:19All right.
07:22You can get involved in this.
07:24Tell me where you stand on this.
07:26All right.
07:26We look at everything that's occurred up until the draft.
07:28That's really the last big thing we see, at least, of improving and adding to this team.
07:35When we look at what the Texans have done, they've moved on from Gerard Johnson.
07:41They brought in Jerry Soplinsky, who was on the staff last year.
07:44He is now the new quarterback coach, promoted from being a senior offensive assistant to
07:49now working directly with C.J.
07:52Stroud.
07:52They've acquired David Montgomery to improve the run game.
07:55They've acquired Wyatt Teller.
07:57Evan Brown on the interior for starters and depth.
08:01Foster Moreau, who they've added to the tight end spot.
08:04They bring in Braden Smith.
08:05They trade Titus Albert.
08:06They bring in a veteran in Braden Smith, re-signing Trent Brown, re-signing Ed Ingram.
08:11So this offensive line has kind of been morphed.
08:14Those are maybe the major key things that they have done to change, both in the coaching
08:20room and then on the field.
08:22Last year, in 14 games, he completed over 64% of his passes, 93 rating, over 3,000 yards,
08:2919 touchdowns, eight picks.
08:30The story was worse in the playoffs in two games.
08:3252% completion rate, 51 rating, 462 yards in those two games, two touchdowns, five interceptions,
08:42five fumbles, two loss.
08:43So he had seven turnovers to two touchdowns in the playoffs.
08:48With everything that's happened, 713-572-4610, YouTube and Twitch, you can jump in on this
08:54too.
08:54With everything that's happened in the off seasons, we've heard D'Amico say it last week.
08:59Like, hey, we're trying to figure out how we can get the best out of C.J. Stroud.
09:03Do you get the sense right now as we sit here that they will have an improved C.J. Stroud
09:11over last year?
09:13I think they'll have an improved C.J. Stroud over what we last saw.
09:18Yeah, last saw from the playoffs.
09:20But that wasn't a year, though.
09:21Yeah.
09:22What we saw for an extended period of time that allowed them to win 10 straight games
09:28is I think we'll see more of that.
09:30Make of it what you will, I think we'll see more of that.
09:33I think we'll see the quarterback being minimized to a degree that it's going to be difficult
09:40for C.J. Stroud to screw it up.
09:43That's where I think the Texans are.
09:45I think the approach is, you know, when you hear them say, you know, we're going to get
09:51the best C.J. Stroud, I think that is their actions are we're going to minimize the quarterback
10:02position to a point of where it's going to be hard to screw it up.
10:05We're going to run the football really, really well.
10:07We're going to play action.
10:08We're going to limit the times that we ask C.J. Stroud to be special.
10:12We're going to we're not going to we're not going to put so much on the quarterback moving
10:17forward.
10:18And I think that's that's by design what they're going to do.
10:21And so I think we get I think we get a a good version of C.J. Stroud.
10:26Yeah, I would.
10:27I mean, if you take the playoffs right, like that's what everybody is now remembering.
10:33That sounds like kind of what he gave you in 14 games over 60, almost 65 percent of his
10:39passes completed, 93 rating, you know, not gaudy numbers, but, you know, in those 14
10:45games, just over 3000 yards pass and 19 and eight interceptions.
10:48Right.
10:49Like, I think that is probably something that they were comfortable, you know, with not,
10:56you know, not the crazy numbers like his first year, but, you know, 19 and eight is not losing
11:01you games.
11:01Right.
11:02That's not, you know, and down the stretch, they took care of the ball really well.
11:06Um, I do think, I think they have put him in a position to be improved from last year
11:17because I do think the backfield feels better now with David, with the combination of David
11:24Montgomery and Woody Marks compared to Woody Marks and Nick Chubb and year two of Woody
11:29Marks.
11:29I think that is improved.
11:32I would think the offensive line is improved, especially from start to finish.
11:37I mean, if we remember, they had the, the, the rotating in game in series rotating guard
11:44situation thing.
11:45It took them a while to kind of get to a spot that they wanted to get in.
11:48But I do think the line of nursery year two and Wyatt Teller, and right now it looks like
11:55Andrews and then, and then Ed Ingram and Braden Smith is probably overall an improvement and
12:03should be, should be a better and more dependable offensive line in front of him.
12:10Hopefully, you know, his, his, uh, his main guy, uh, Nico is healthy for most of the year
12:16and maybe those two young, those young receivers grow in a second year.
12:19So I do think they have put things in front of him to be better, um, but better and maybe
12:30what they potentially need in certain matchups in games.
12:34I don't know if they've gotten there, but I think, I think like, I think we could come
12:38into this year and you look at and say, CJ has had a better year overall, not just the
12:44playoffs, but a better year overall than, than maybe what he put forth last year.
12:49I could see that happening with what they have done before, but to get to where he was
12:55a couple of years ago, where he was a flat difference maker.
12:58I don't know if they have, they have put that in front of him yet.
13:03Yeah, I don't, well, well, I don't even, I don't know that because I don't think they're
13:06trying.
13:07Yeah, there you go.
13:08I don't, I don't think that's the plan.
13:10I mean, we've heard Nick Casario say it's, we're not building around one guy.
13:13Um, we've watched them again, um, spend little to no money in terms of weapons, uh, for, for
13:20the guy, uh, until this year they're, they've, they've missed on the O-line, you know, O-line
13:25fixes or O-line shots that they've taken.
13:28And so I, I think there's been, there's been a, I think there's overall been a lackluster
13:37effort to, to put, you know, pieces around CJ Stroud.
13:41I think, you know, two years ago, you could look at obviously the, the Nico Diggs, uh,
13:46Yeah, that one, you're thinking, boy, they put something together to, to make it even better.
13:50You had Joe Mixon and Diggs and, and, uh, you ended up firing your offensive coordinator.
13:54So that, that, that, that probably is not going to happen again.
13:56So, so we'll, we'll see.
13:57I look, I just, I think this is based on, on the pieces they're putting around him, based
14:02on everything that we hear coming out of the organization and based on what we know about
14:07the offense, it just seems, it seems like this is a, let's just get our quarterback to
14:12a spot where he doesn't make mistakes.
14:15Yeah.
14:16Next line coming through base power text line, uh, coming through, as we said, with everything
14:20that's happened in the off season, we kind of going through a chain, changing the
14:23coaching staff.
