00:00I wonder if I could go off the board a little.
00:01You made me think about something here.
00:05So this century, you know, like you mentioned,
00:07the Yankees only are given credit if they win the World Series.
00:10And it's their paradigm.
00:11It's the Steinbrenner model, you know, championship or bust.
00:14Would you rather have the Yankees 2000s or the Red Sox 2000s?
00:19Yeah, I was thinking about that earlier.
00:21That's funny.
00:22Red Sox have the four championships,
00:23and I think championships are the most important thing.
00:25But also just a lot of, like, last place finishes
00:29incredibly bad years in there.
00:31The Yankees pretty much haven't played a meaningless game in this century.
00:35Right.
00:36Have a championship in 2000,
00:38if you consider that this part of this century,
00:40and obviously won in 09.
00:42Well, since 04, the Red Sox have the four championships.
00:46Red Sox are kind of like the football giants.
00:47If they get close, they actually win the Super Bowl or a championship,
00:51but they're kind of not great all the other times.
00:53Who would you, like, if you were a fan,
00:56would you rather be a fan and get the four parades,
00:59but there's a lot of miserable seasons,
01:01or have it matter every day?
01:02I think it mattering every day is better.
01:05You know, that makes the Yankees special.
01:07They haven't had a losing season since 92, I think it is.
01:11So 93.
01:12No, no, you're right.
01:13You're right.
01:13Right.
01:13So it's been a long time.
01:14In either case, it's been more than three decades
01:17since they had a losing season.
01:18I think I'd rather have that,
01:19but it would be nice to have those three extra championships, right,
01:22to see you have a nice round 30 championships.
01:25That wouldn't be bad,
01:26but I don't think the Yankees would put up with last place finishes.
01:29I do think if there were multiple last place finishes,
01:32they wouldn't have more changes than they have had.
01:35You know, I think there would be more upheaval,
01:38although obviously Hal is generally against upheaval,
01:41but you wouldn't have a general manager
01:44who's been in there since 1998, I think.
01:48He's been in there a long time,
01:49longer than any other general manager.
01:51And, you know, he's had a winning season every year,
01:54so there's something to be said for that.
01:57You know, John,
01:59you mentioned earlier the passion in Boston for the Red Sox.
02:02I mean, I do think one of the things is
02:04they are the only game in town.
02:07Like here, you know,
02:08you do have the Mets to multiple teams in every sport,
02:11and it's just like they,
02:15and Fenway Park is, you know,
02:17they still draw even when they do poorly.
02:20I kind of think part of the thing would be
02:22if the Yankees had a last place season,
02:23I think they'd bleed hundreds and hundreds
02:26and thousands of fans,
02:27which would change their business model
02:30to some degree.
02:31Sure, when I was a kid,
02:32they would draw a million, right, or less, I think.
02:35You know, I mean, obviously there were fewer people,
02:38less interest maybe,
02:39but, and you can watch the games on Channel 11
02:43very easily.
02:44Maybe that makes a difference.
02:45I don't know.
02:46So, yeah, I think you're right.
02:48The fans in Boston are pretty diehard.
02:52So, they'll be with them through thick and thin,
02:55and that's what it's been for them.
02:57Thick and then thin and back and forth again.
02:59So, yeah, it's interesting.
03:02Half the people would say
03:03they'd rather have the championships,
03:05and half would say they'd rather have
03:06the consistent winning teams.
03:08But I think it's nice to have
03:09the consistent winning teams.
03:11I'm not against it.
03:12Yeah, I think you and I create the 50-50.
03:14I think I'd rather have the championships
03:16and deal with the misery when it's bad
03:18because just the championships are so forever.
