00:00Do you think that John Middleton and Dave Dombrowski are going to give Harper a new contract with this lockout
00:06looming in 27?
00:08I do not.
00:10So the first time that Scott brought this up, I believe, was three years ago.
00:14I'm talking about Boris, not Robert, right?
00:16And that day I got a text from another agent.
00:19He said, hey, the Phillies and Boris are working on that extension for Bryce.
00:23It'll be done in eight years.
00:25Now, I haven't heard from that guy after the latest one, but I'm pretty sure he'd tell me it'll be
00:31done in five years.
00:33So the question I've always asked since Scott started talking about this is why would the Phillies do that?
00:41The contract runs through 2031.
00:45The president of baseball operations just wondered publicly whether Bryce will ever be elite again.
00:53It'll be 40, right, when this thing ends.
00:57And you have to know a little bit about the big picture history.
01:03I honestly think this is not about Bryce.
01:06This is about Scott Boris.
01:08If you remember, Bryce and Manny Machado signed in the same month in 2019.
01:15Manny Machado not represented by the Boris Corp.
01:18So Manny had an opt-out.
01:22Manny used the opt-out to get a new deal for another 11 years and $350 million.
01:30Bryce didn't get an opt-out because he said he didn't want one.
01:34Don't you think that gnaws at Scott?
01:37Why else would he keep bringing it up?
01:40The Phillies have never said no to this publicly because they love Bryce.
01:45They don't want to go there, but I'll start with the same question I just asked.
01:50Why would they do that?
01:52Yeah, I'm right there with you.
01:53I would not.
01:54I mean, it doesn't make any sense on so many levels.
01:57But I guess if Harper pushed enough, could he force their hand?
02:02Could he say, hey, if you don't give me an extension, I want to be traded?
02:05I don't think he would do it, but that's a possibility, right?
02:09This is very hypothetical.
02:12This has been out there for three years.
02:14When has Bryce ever pushed that button?
02:16We haven't seen it.
02:18I mean, he alluded to it this spring, alluded to it because he was asked directly about it.
02:23But I honestly feel like this is a Scott Boris thing.
02:27It's not a Bryce thing.
02:28I feel like Bryce wants to play the rest of his career in Philadelphia.
02:32And there are ways to make that happen without extending a guy whose contract,
02:37when he signed it, was the biggest in the history of baseball and still doesn't expire until 2031.
02:44I feel like he didn't.
02:45I feel like he was the guy who was the first in the history of baseball,
02:45but I don't think that he was the second in the history of baseball.
02:46It's going to be a kid, but I can't believe it.
02:46I don't think that he's going to be hired.
02:46I feel like he's going to be an in the history of baseball gonna be a couple of kids.
