00:00What's the first thing you do when you wake up? Is it check your phone?
00:04HuffPo spoke to a therapist who confirms exposing yourself to all those notifications early on
00:09exposes you to stressful or negative information and may rob you of a morning meant for you and
00:15your creativity. So what can you do? First, stop using your phone as an alarm clock and get an
00:21actual one. That helps remove temptation first thing in the morning. If you need to keep the
00:25phone handy, try an inspirational quote as your backdrop. Even better, keep your phone in another
00:31room at night or even turn it off. If that's too risky, you could silence all notifications except
00:37in case of an emergency and schedule when you'd like them to turn back on. Now that the phone is
00:42gone, give yourself something enjoyable to look forward to first thing in the morning. Maybe
00:47that's a cup of coffee in a morning journaling session or even reading for a few minutes,
00:51perhaps even a morning meditation or some yoga. Take control of your day. Don't let the devices
00:58take control of you.
