00:00DAP's Bangi MP Sharedzan Johan has hit out at a former Singaporean-nominated MP over
00:07remarks perceived as a veiled jab at Malaysia for negotiating with Iran for safe passage
00:14through the Strait of Hormuz.
00:16Kelvin Cheng had praised Singaporean Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishn's stance
00:21that negotiating for passage through the strait could undermine international law.
00:26In a Facebook post, Cheng wrote that Singapore does not negotiate with terrorists and claimed
00:32that some countries boast about having negotiated passage while simultaneously saying they are
00:37running out of oil next month.
00:40Sharedzan described Cheng's remarks as misguided and incendiary, adding that they appeared directed
00:45at Malaysia even though no country was named.
00:50Tehran has allowed Malaysia-linked vessels through the strait after Prime Minister Anwar
00:55Ibrahim raised the issue directly with Iranian President Masud Pezashkian.
01:00Meanwhile, the DAP Vice Chairman said in a Facebook post that Malaysia respected Singapore's position
01:06in the conflict but would chart its own path to protect its people, including negotiating
01:12for passage through the strait of Hormuz.
