00:16john harbaugh era the giants reported to their offseason program today harbaugh and his coordinators
00:22were on a zoom call with media earlier in the day paul schwartz our giants beat writer for the post
00:29was on that call so let's get the t on the whole dexter lawrence situation malik neighbors
00:35progression and of course uh what the giants uh may be doing these next couple weeks throughout
00:40otas and all uh paul i remember it like it was uh again like our first day of school it
00:46was the
00:46second year going into the nfl i was five minutes uh early which meant i was on time on coughlin
00:53time
00:53and it's like you're looking around the room at the new faces some of the guys that have already
00:58been there and then the guys where you're like i gotta beat that guy out for a job if i

01:03to get paid if i want to buy mama a new house so uh what's going on man oh that
01:07it was it was that
01:08that zoom call today what would you give us one word to describe the john harbaugh and the coordinators
01:15zoom call for the day before we start talking about dexter lawrence and these guys yeah well i'll tell
01:20you one thing brandon i hope when you were pointing to those guys and saying i gotta beat this guy

01:24you weren't pointing to like plexigle burris okay or imani tumor i hope i hope you weren't pointing
01:29to them and saying i gotta beat out that guy it was it was tomb it was always tomb it

01:39people came in and said you know what i can beat out that guy he's not that fair not that

01:44beat him out right he just kept on going and going and going um yeah no look john harbaugh you

01:50some of that right and um you know some of ours zoom with him and um you know john harbaugh

01:55been an nfl head coach in one place for 18 years did that seem like a guy who just kind

02:00and like been there done that no right no no he seemed pumped up he seemed ready to roll um
02:07yeah the
02:08first day you know i mean uh you know we'll talk about dexter lawrence he was not there right we'll
02:12talk about paulson adibo he was not there and the defensive lineman sam roberts was not there right
02:18um sam robert other than that great attendance which is fantastic you know that's what coaches
02:24want to see but yeah harbaugh was pumped up i mean uh um his um his special teams coordinator chris
02:30horton uh was asked about harbaugh and he said yeah you know i've seen i've been this was my 12th
02:35you know first introductory uh team meeting with john harbaugh because he was with him all those years
02:41in baltimore and said yeah did he have a little juice and a little extra pop yeah he did so
02:46yes he did
02:47you know and and i thought it was interesting that john harbaugh said and look some guys say
02:51this and you're kind of like uh really you know when he says it you believe he said it was
02:56an honor
02:56to stand up there and be the head coach of the giants and meet these players and don't you think
03:01he means it when he says that absolutely i think every player in that team meeting room felt it you
03:07could feel that because that type of energy paul you can't fake that you can't come in and have
03:12some little like rah rah speech from you know your little notepad or or something or the back of a
03:18receipt from a bill or something like that you can't come in there and fake that type of enthusiasm
03:23that type of motivation i think every player that was sitting there in that team meeting room felt that
03:30and your hair had to kind of raise up a little bit on the back of your neck because you're
03:34like okay
03:35this is my first time getting a chance to be around the aura the guy and he delivered now after
03:42he finished all that paul you address the team you're just with 90 something or minus those three
03:48guys like 87 ish players now you have to go and you have to address the media and i don't
03:54think for
03:55one second he thought he would be addressing the media about a possible dexter lawrence requesting or
04:02warning a trade so two-part question can you give us everything john harbaugh said about
04:08dexter lawrence in that situation and do you think that this is something that can linger on throughout
04:15the spring and possibly the summer i'll answer the second part first yes i do think it can linger
04:21short because i don't think dexter's coming in anytime soon this is voluntary you get you don't
04:26get docked any money you know look guys have done this for years right guys have said i'm not coming
04:31to the voluntary and they don't come sometimes they don't come for three days sometimes they
04:35don't come for two weeks sometimes they don't come for a month you know there's nothing mandatory now
04:39you're not getting docked you know you miss one day of mandatory you lose fifty thousand dollars okay
04:44and dexter lawrence has a workout bonus of half a million dollars five hundred thousand dollars so
04:50for a guy who says i want more money i want more money that he he's only said um you
04:57know through
04:58his represent representation that he's requested a trade right he's requesting a trade because he
05:04wants more money um if he wants more money and he's not going to be at these workouts um not
05:10now but at
05:11some point right it's going to cost him half a million dollars that's not a way to make more money
05:14that's a way to not make money now john harbaugh said um we want dexter here i believe dexter wants

05:21be here and that's a good formula but there's business involved so um harbaugh has talked to
05:28him he's um you know a couple of weeks ago he's talked to his agent maybe a little more recently
05:32and it was interesting john harbaugh said you know i could kind of see this coming a few weeks ago
05:37you know don't forget we asked harbaugh and we asked the general manager joe shane way back in
05:42february at the scouting combine indianapolis what's going on with dexter what's going on with dexter
05:47and they're like what's going on with dexter you know i mean um now the fact that he had 60
05:52million
05:52guaranteed of his 94 year 90 million dollar contract that he signed at the before the 2024 season um
06:02all of that guaranteed money 60 million is gone so there's no more guaranteed money so dexter wants
06:07more money when he signed his contract he was tied for third in the league for the highest paid
06:13interior defensive lineman now inflation right inflation go to the uh go go you know go to
06:20the grocery store go to the gas station inflation he's now 12th highest paid he doesn't like that
06:26he thinks he's a better player than jordan davis from the eagles jordan davis is averaging 26 million
06:31a year dex is like a 21 almost 22 yep doesn't like it uh doesn't think it's reasonable um i
06:39you know
06:39look but and the problem the giants have is he is coming off a bad season now bad for dexter

06:45not bad for everybody in the nfl bad for dexter lawrence you saw it right you were in the locker
06:50room you saw all the games let me ask you this did dexter lawrence was he an incredibly impactful
06:56player in 2025 absolutely not no and i think that he would he would own up to that and take
07:01accountability for that i'm not sure he would own up to that he did not own up to that really
07:06at all
07:06last year um did he did he you know you were in the locker room you talked to him in
07:10the sense he
07:11ever said it wasn't it wasn't full and i'll say it right here look into the camera it wasn't full
07:17dexter lawrence accountability it was a little dancing when it came to all while i'm still getting
07:22double teamed and all look at the tape watch the tape that was the thing between he and carl banks
07:27but be being a dexter lawrence fan and and and loving his his body of work to what he's done
07:33the
07:33three pro bowls the dance the chunky soup commercial last year was definitely a down year and i don't
07:39think he took full accountability for that so and that is hard for the giants to look at that and
07:44say
07:45okay do we have a descending player here you know he's he's going to be 29 in november we gave
07:52him a
07:52lot of money now last year you know he had a great 2024 season right that was you know nine
07:58sacks in 12
07:59games right he had a dislocated elbow on thanksgiving um pushing the pocket i think career high eight
08:04tackles for loss he was the best nose tackle in the league in 2024 absolutely and so after that season
08:09the giants did not have to do anything he wanted more money after that season after that great season
08:14the giant said okay we'll bake in three million dollars in incentives okay if you do what you did
08:20this past year you'll get them all he did not now he started all 17 games so he got a
08:25million dollars
08:26and incentives off last year okay that's what he got that he earned he didn't earn the other two
08:32million because he didn't quite frankly you know play to that standard so now he wants more money again
08:37so i'm i'm i'm playing it right down the middle dexter lawrence is saying there are players on this list
08:4211 players that are making more money than me at my position i'm better than a lot of them uh
08:47you know
08:48the salary cap has gone up i need to be compensated at a higher level the giants say you know
08:54one year
08:55into your contract you wanted more money now two years into your contract you want more money and
08:59now you're requesting a trade um um john harbaugh you know someone asked john harbaugh today and this
09:04was great he said are you going to honor his request and john harbaugh said it's not like a christmas
09:13gift you know it's a business you know like honoring the request like honoring you know you honoring the
09:18request to to get a pair a suit for christmas you know um you know look harbaugh's been through this
09:24you know in in most of the years that he worked with lamar jackson lamar jackson this time of year
09:29did not show up for these voluntary programs and he was the quarterback right and everyone asked about
09:35the quarterback you know we're asking about decks imagine if it was eli manning all those years right
09:39or daniel jones imagine if jackson dart didn't show up today so um the quarterback is different he
09:46said look i've learned patience um you know harbaugh also said look this is not my thing the experts
09:52are joe shane and donna ponte they have to now deal with this um he wants them to be there
09:58interesting a couple more things on decks okay denard wilson the defensive coordinator said
10:03you know i still see him as a great player i see him as this cornerstone of our defensive line
10:08he obviously wants him i thought it was really interesting brandon what matt nagy the offensive
10:13coordinator said about him don't forget the chiefs played the giants fairly early in the season
10:17and he said we had to account for dexter lawrence on every snap when i was with the chiefs and
10:25we
10:25were running our offense so he still thinks he's a great player that was early in the season decks did
10:30not play as well later in the season so um do i think they'll trade him i don't but i'm
10:37not putting
10:38that at zero percent because you know how these yeah you remember how was was it last year miles garrett
10:44right can we agree miles garrett is the best defensive player in football right now without
10:49doubt without doubt okay what did he say he said i want to be traded right last year he said

10:55be traded because i want to win um i love the browns i love cleveland but i want to win
11:01a super bowl i want
11:02to win okay a month later he got a big contract extension i think it was four years 160 million

11:10became the highest paid non-quarterback in the nfl he's back he's he doesn't want to be traded anymore
11:19so did he want to be traded because he wanted to go win a super bowl or did he want
11:24to be traded
11:24because he wanted more money and that's what's a frequent agent ploy going to be traded now you're
11:30going to get the phone's going to ring and now you're going to see what you can get for him

11:33you got it you want to deal him away because he wants to be paid so you know miles garrett
11:37suddenly saw
11:39the light and he now can win a super bowl in cleveland i guess because he got more money so

11:44you know you know is dex a little disgruntled you know his buddy leonard williams left for greener
11:49passions in seattle won a super bowl i'm sure dex is like damn i could do that too yeah i

11:54wants to stay and he wants more money we'll see where it takes we'll see where it goes yeah the
11:58only difference between dexter lawrence and miles garrett is miles garrett didn't have a down
12:03year the five the previous season so all the leverage all the cards were in his hands and if you
12:08look at it when you look at a new regime somewhat of a new regime coming in there i know

12:13is still there but donna ponti's there john harbaugh is there it's a prove-it year for everybody it's a
12:20prove-it year for john harbaugh so my thing with the whole dexter lawrence situation you want him to
12:26get his money or some of his money you want him to stay you want him to win here i

12:31him win here to really see his brand his personality really take off the way it should
12:37here in new york but my only thing is paul i wish he would show up i wish that you

12:43give him the advice of kind of do what sauce gardener did last season where it's like all right
12:48show up you may not have to go through all the drills or put yourselves out there for otas but

12:54that you're in shape show the elbow is healthy and show that you can move show them what they're going
12:59to be paying i would have loved to see i would have loved to see that and i think that
13:03would have
13:04been the best case scenario because now you don't have the fan base or you don't have you know brandon
13:10and tiki and everyone on on their shows now having to be like is he worth it is heck yeah

13:18is worth a top five to fit interior defensive tackle contract even still coming off this that that down
13:25year but i would wish it was a situation to where like with sauce gardener got his money he showed

13:32did some things around you know what does ocho cinco say kiss the baby kiss the baby around the
13:38franchise show i'm a leader i'm gonna still show up we can get this thing done i ain't gonna do

13:42but we can get it done and then bam you have i mean it's it's just the best case scenario

13:49and i was told to ask you this paul opening day the 2026 season yes or no question is dexter

14:11you just said made perfect sense and it shows me why you would be a lousy agent because you know
14:17you made good sense and i agree with you but that's not what agents do the leverage is him
14:22not showing up if he showed up today it wouldn't be that big of a deal him not showing up

14:29there's a thing now john harbaugh's got to talk about it and talk about it dex wasn't there dex
14:34wasn't there oh this is disappointing that's what agents do look it's right it's it's in the agent's
14:39playbook this is what they do um you know it happens and um but i'm not gonna sit here and

14:44because i don't think the giants have a big appetite for um you know what dex is right we
14:50got to do something with his contract you know i don't know if we can give him everything he wants
14:53but you know i don't think they feel that way and they're scared that he's coming off a lousy year
14:58they were 31st in the league and run defense with him starting 17 games so um can they give throw
15:05some incentives will that be enough for dexter i don't know i don't know it seems like he wants
15:10a decent bump up in salary and i don't think the giants want to give him that all right
15:14lastly before we get into talking about paulson debo if he wants that big bump up in salary going
15:19back to dexter lawrence the giants don't want to give him that what could a potential trade package
15:26look like what could be the market for the sexy dexy he's a really good player and you know what
15:33he'd be coming to another team on a good contract you know 20 million a year 18 million a year
15:38that's the problem dex wants more than that you know so um i mean i i think if the giant
15:45i don't
15:45think the giants are making any phone calls but if the call if the phone rings and he said oh
15:49i hear
15:49dex you know what do you think you start with the first round pick this year and then you see
15:53which
15:54team is calling right you'd hope it's a top 15 pick and i'd say a first round pick this year
15:59and a
16:00second round pick next year that's that's where i start you know i don't know how much more you can
16:04get
16:04than that but i think you need to it's got to be substantial you cannot give away a player who
16:10you know at this time last year was great was a great player was did not was not coming off
16:15a bad
16:15year um you know he's going to be 29 but he's 340 pounds and how much wear and tear is
16:21on those
16:21joints and things like that i think um you play hard ball with dexter lawrence because you can't
16:28give away a guy like that and you have to get a king's ransom to deal him at least what
16:33the jets
16:34got for quinn and williams and i believe that's exactly what you said the first round of this
16:38year and the second round for for the following year but uh paul's just never a dull day in giants
16:44land definitely going to be something that we're going to be talking about and keeping our eye out
16:48on again all right so now another player of of value no disrespect to sam robinson but paulson the
16:55dbow he his name gets you retweets he was a no-show day one he's getting what 18 million annually
17:02he's a joe shane guy paul no adibo seasoning on your food is bad business but no adibo day one
17:11especially when your defensive coordinator is a defensive back-minded dc is this something you
17:19feel as though we need to monitor for the rest of the spring i mean look these are voluntary things

22:58found excitement that a john harbaugh has brought into the building so uh paul we'll be we're going to
