00:07The singer Jessie Nelson has quit the girl group Little Mix after she said constant pressure had
00:13affected her mental health. Jessie said the past nine years in Little Mix has been the most
00:19incredible time of my life. I find the constant pressure of being in a girl group and living up
00:25to expectations very hard she said. Very sad day for Jessie Nelson and her fans. Jessie
00:30Nelson is leaving Little Mix. Jessie. Jessie. Jessie Nelson. Jessie Nelson has left Little
00:36Mix. Oh my god. I've literally been fighting back tears. It's very traumatic. What the
00:44heck? Jessie's found herself back in the studio and returning to her passion which she notes
00:49is good for her mental health. It was everything that I had envisioned for me as a solo. I
00:55artist. But I did not expect the shitstorm that's going to come with it. Jessie Nelson is being
01:03accused of so-called blackfishing. Jessie, make her look worse for yourself. Gonna do what
01:07she wants. Yeah, look at her son.
01:20I'm going to take this box and it's going, yeah?
01:30She's such a good artist, isn't she? Wait, there's Jessie? She painted it, yeah. Jess!
01:36Yeah? Your work. Yes, I'm an artist, you see. Pop star by day, artist by night.
01:48Ready? Yeah. I can't be heavy lifting. I've just had a C-section. It's not heavy. No. But
01:56also, I just can't be arsed.
02:00This isn't about me or Zahn anymore. This is about the future of our girls. Ready? And I
02:06don't know why, just the thought of Cornwall just makes my heart feel so happy. I'm ready
02:12to leave Brentwood. Start my seaside life. You ready? Ouch! Is there any part of you
02:26that scared to move? We're literally just by ourselves. Yeah. I can't wait for that.
02:41One thing I am going to miss though is Nando's. Yeah. I can't believe there's a lot of Nando's
02:47in the whole of Cornwall. Let's have pasties, mate. Pasties? Pasties, pasties. No, pasties.
02:57Oh my God, what are you going to do for one day? Ocean comes home. She's like, Dad, I
03:02want you to meet my boyfriend. How do you want him to greet you? It's just, hi, sir.
03:08Hi, sir. Bloody hell, are you living in the 1950s? So some respect. Sure. It's going
03:21to be fun though. I'm excited. We're either going to love it or we're going to hate it.
03:26At first, when she actually told me that she was moving to Cornwall, I was absolutely shocked.
03:32But I think they both crave peace and quiet now. It's just a much nicer lifestyle, calmer,
03:38just kinder. Jessie? Jessie? I've been taking them there to see it since they were babies.
03:49It's just somewhere they've grown up and she's got nice memories there. But it's the first
03:57time she's got to do everything for herself because I have done it all for her. It'll be
04:00nice to see her get a hoover out. I've never seen her do that before. Going to be a completely
04:06different to the last 15 years of her life. Complete change and a nice one. How is it raining
04:14but the sun is out? There's going to be a rainbow. Right, where's my ponch? That's not
04:19the head. Look, on your head. Where's the hood? Let's button you up. Let's button you up.
04:28Wait, I need to tuck my hair away. The hair is priority, guys. Honestly, you wouldn't catch me
04:40doing this in Brentwood. Wow. You like it, Pooh? Love it. This is like mum's ideal weather. She
04:50absolutely loves it. Oh my God! It's just not the life, the glamour down here. But this
05:04is what I mean. I just feel free when I'm here. I literally said to Zion today when we were
05:11walking up the High Street. This is the first time I've walked into High Street. I don't
05:13have anxiety. It felt so nice. Look at that. That's like a five-minute walk for us now. I know.
05:24How nice is this? So nice. My whole life is like completely changed since having the girls. So
05:35like I would have never moved to Cornwall if I hadn't have had children. I feel like when
05:42you have children, they almost like force you to have to make decisions because it's not
05:46about you anymore. It's about them. And like we just really wanted them to like grow up in
05:51like a really peaceful location where they could just be kids and just be free. And that's
05:56like how I feel when I'm here. Are you going to learn how to ride the waves? On a surfboard?
06:03Yeah. Are you going to be an absolute dude? I'm going to be radical.
06:16First time barfing them here.
06:24All right. Number two coming in. There you go. Is that nice?
06:29We get all cleans. We're going to get all cleans, aren't we? We got to get all of the
06:37things in the nooks and cracks, haven't we? Look at that in your new towel.
06:44Show us to Chris.
06:46Story bear!
06:50Look at our little princesses.
06:53Fast asleep. This is story bear. Where's your sissy? She's fast asleep.
06:59And we're having a lovely old time in our new place, aren't we?
07:03We're currently doing our night feeds. I feel like they just ate.
07:07This is what twin life is about. They literally just ate. And an hour later they're ratted out for more.
07:14Ocean bear time. It's shattered.
07:24Obviously, absolutely adore having twins. Like, it's just the best thing that's ever happened to us.
07:32But when one of them cries, it sets the other one off. Both just wake up at the same time.
07:38That part is really hard, isn't it?
07:40Sleep deprivation. Super hard.
07:42And yeah, twins is just another level. Imagine having triplets.
07:59I actually have no idea what's in this case.
08:02Jesus bloody Christ, get your bejazzles out.
08:06What are you doing? I'm packing all my costumes.
08:09Where's that? Bloody hell. When do you wear that one?
08:12Where's the bottoms? Get your whips and chains it.
08:14Where's the bottom?
08:17I just wore this and nothing else.
08:19I'm trying. I'm trying.
08:21Do you feel how happy it is?
08:26Blimey.
08:28This is showbiz at its finest. It really is.
08:31Wow.
08:33Oh, my gosh.
08:35This was the last outfit I ever wore.
08:39Wow.
08:40Yeah.
08:42Like, I always thought that, like, when I eventually got my house, wherever I was going to live, that I'd
08:48have, like, a room.
08:49Frame them. That is sick.
08:51Yeah, like, frame them or have, like... That is sick.
08:53Or have, like, you know, like, mannequins and, like, put them on that and then, like, name all the tools
08:59that I wore them in.
09:00How did you actually do that? That is so sick.
09:02Are all of these from Little Mix or any of these from when you went solo?
09:05I think these are all pretty much from Little Mix days.
09:09What was that even like, like, the main difference from, like, being in a group to doing it solo?
09:15It's a lot more scary being on your own because, obviously, all eyes are just on you.
09:19Yeah, I hear that.
09:20But I do think there's just a certain level of freedom you get when you're a soloist, though.
09:25That is the part that's great about it because you have the freedom to be exactly who you want to
09:30be.
09:31Yeah.
09:31You're not confining yourself to what the group has to be.
09:34Mm.
09:34So you can be as creative as you want, you can dress how you want, you can look how you
09:38want, you can make the music you want.
09:43Goodbye.
09:44When I left the band, the thought of being a soloist just never even entered my mind.
09:49Like, I just was like, I don't know, I just didn't.
09:52But it was such a weird feeling for me because I'd been so used to, like, non-stop working for
09:58ten years.
09:58But to then just have nothing was really like, ugh.
10:02And I just thought, I need to get out.
10:03So actually probably going into the studio might actually be a good thing.
10:08And it made me feel so happy, the thought of, like, finally getting to, like, make music that was really
10:14truly authentically me.
10:20I'd grown up on, like, R&B and hip hop from being a dancer.
10:27She would always come home from school, I think it was MTV bass or something like that.
10:32Always have the music channels on, always dancing, doing little routines.
10:39She always dressed completely different to everyone else and got a bit of stick for it as well once.
10:44She went to work in a pub in her baggy shorts and her cap and her socks and, like, quite
10:51hip hop.
10:52And I remember they sent her home from the pub and said, no, you need to come back and dress
10:55sexy.
10:56Like, you can't dress like that. And I remember saying, I said, I don't want to work there.
10:59Anyone that knows me knows that, like, my love for, like, R&B and hip hop is just, like, yeah.
11:04And so when I got the opportunity to, like, delve into that and, like, experiment with it, like, that excited
11:10me so much.
11:13So today we are doing my first ever campaign shoot for my solo movie, which is very exciting.
11:23I mean, I'm not going to lie, I was shitting myself at first.
11:26I was a bit stiff Steve at first, but now I'm loose and goosey, so I feel good.
11:31It was so good to see her so happy and so passionate again, like, she had that passion.
11:35It was like, right, I'm going to go solo. I've got these new, I've got these songs, like, these are
11:40my ideas.
11:40Like, do you like this? Do you like that? She's gone back to being Jessie.
11:44At that time, I'd just come out of a bit of a toxic relationship and I was just like, oh,
11:50my God, there's a song in this.
11:51Like, there's a song in me falling for the one boy that's shit.
11:57And, um, the first day I went into the studio was the day I wrote Boys.
12:11She couldn't wait for this song to be released.
12:14Like, she was so proud of the music that she was making, and rightfully so.
12:19Like, to come out of a girl group and then to do it on your own, like, is a big
12:22step to take.
12:27And always when I, like, make a song, I immediately think of the video.
12:32So, we are at Studio 38 today and we are auditioning the guys for Boys video, which is very, very
12:40exciting.
12:41People don't really audition dancers anymore.
12:44And, um, I really wanted to do it because I just feel like you miss out on some really good
12:49gems.
12:50One, two, three, kick, press, press, slide, step, adapt, right, adapt.
12:57One thing that, like, I did love about being a solo artist was that I got creative control over everything,
13:03which I never had in Little Mix.
13:05And it was like, oh, I could, like, this is so exciting. Like, I could do whatever I want.
13:10Yeah, we should definitely get boys from back as well. That is sick.
13:14It has to be sitting down. Every girl can relate to that.
13:17I almost felt like that spark again of how I felt when I first, like, entered the band.
13:21Like, this is exciting. This is new. Like, this is, like, this is what it should feel like.
13:26Well done. Speed it, friends. And action in.
13:36Absolutely mental. I don't think I've ever been excited in my whole entire life.
13:44Babe, you are an icon. You need to be in a museum.
13:49It's like everything I'd ever dreamed of, like, from watching music videos as a kid
13:53and now being able to create one exactly like it, but in my way, it's just, like, magical.
14:00I think the lead-up to releasing boys, Jess was really happy and really positive
14:04and everything was going really well.
14:10She put a lot of hard work, a real lot of hard work. I've never seen her work so hard.
14:14And everyone was saying, oh, it's going to do so well.
14:18When it comes you long to it, it's going to be, like, big.
14:21You are going to literally come back to Earth and bang.
14:26Shemonga's explosion, like, the big bang.
14:29Yeah, baby, it's coming.
14:31She was so excited and she loved that music video and she loved that vision
14:37and she loved that, at the time, loved that song.
14:40But now she's learnt to despise it.
15:03The day it got released, I was doing promo all day.
15:09So I wasn't on my phone.
15:11I wasn't looking at anything.
15:14This is the first time I've ever been heartbroken in my life
15:17and I have wrote some bangers from it, so thanks, mate.
15:21I remember someone from my management told me it's charted really well.
15:25It was, like, number one in the iTunes chart.
15:29Woo-hoo!
15:29Woo-hoo!
15:30Woo-hoo!
15:31Woo-hoo!
15:32Woo-hoo!
15:33Yeah, it was, like, looking like it was going to go to number one.
15:36Jessie Nelson is back and we couldn't be happier.
15:40Here is her new single voice and it's a banger.
15:44And I remember, at the end of the day, of promo, my manager pulled me to the side.
15:53And he was like, listen, like, we need to have a chat.
16:02There's a lot of, like, controversy going on with the video.
16:11And I was like, okay, and he was like, it's not good.
16:16Former Little Mix star Jessie Nelson has denied that she's blackfishing in the video for her new song.
16:22So I suppose it's a form of sort of cultural appropriation.
16:25We have white women trying their best to appear racially ambiguous.
16:31The idea that she's trying to look black to me is a little bit, is a bit far-fetched.
16:36She said her new video is intended to be a celebration of a type of music that she loves.
16:42It was so big. The whole world was talking about it.
16:46She's a white British woman from the UK. And now she's looking a little bit too black.
16:50And we're sick of it in America.
16:52She's an artist. Let her do what she wants. She's always had fake tan on.
16:55She's had fake tan on since it's been a little mix.
16:57They're Jessie Nelson at the sort of center of this storm.
17:00It needs a bit of stepping back and thinking about why people are annoyed.
17:05It actually, like, breaks my heart that, like, it, like, upset people.
17:12Because if I'd have known that that was how it was going to play out,
17:15like, never in a million years would I have put it out.
17:19Like, that was never my intention.
17:21And it's just sad.
17:23It's like...
17:25It's just one of them things.
17:26And I've learnt a lot from it.
17:29Your first ever performance of it, Graham Lawton?
17:32Mm-hm, mm-hm.
17:33Talk me through that day.
17:37I was petrified.
17:38I almost pulled out of doing it.
17:44You're good, man. Trust me, man.
17:47Personally, I think... I feel like you can do it.
17:51I know, but the last thing I want to do...
17:53And I know what my brain is like right now.
17:55Mm-hm.
17:56And I thought, this ain't good.
17:57This is not good to be performing when you're petrified.
18:00And not a petrified of, like, good, excited nerves.
18:02Like, sometimes I get when I was performing in Little Mix,
18:05it was like a...
18:06Like, I'm scared. Like, I'm actually scared.
18:11I really appreciate everyone's energy.
18:13I'm really sorry for being there.
18:14Don't be sorry.
18:15How do you feel?
18:16And...
18:17You got it. You got it.
18:20You got it.
18:20There is a lot of pressure, but this is growth.
18:23Time for growth.
18:23Time to push through that pressure.
18:25This British pop star topped the charts with Little Mix.
18:28Now she brings us her debut solo single, Boys.
18:33Please welcome...
18:34Jessie Nelson!
18:38I think after all the accusations come out,
18:41she kind of went numb again, really.
18:44And I could see the sadness on Jessie's face.
18:48I was just in such a low place.
18:51I couldn't do this anymore.
18:54There's just something quite, like, dark about the music industry, I think.
18:58And you can't ever get away from that.
19:02Like, I love music. I love making it.
19:04I love performing.
19:06But the minute I have to put it out and, like,
19:08do all the crap that comes with it, they're not fun to me.
19:12And that is, for me, why I personally don't think I will ever go back into doing music again.
19:18Yeah.
19:22It definitely feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.
19:26I just felt, like, free of that pressure.
19:31Yeah.
19:33Yeah.
19:39Are you sure it's actually this tight?
19:42We're getting there.
19:44This is taking the piss.
19:46Honestly.
19:48Like...
19:49I've got it.
19:50Trust me, look.
19:52I'm gonna throw it off.
19:52I'll put it down there.
19:55I'll put it down there now.
19:56Slug it off.
19:59Oh, God.
20:01Give me both.
20:05I'm gonna...
20:13Oh, my God.
20:20I have everything that's happened in my life good and bad I would not change
20:25anything because everything led me to my beautiful girls
20:39ah so there's jeez man this is tough oh so they're slightly different look so I've got to pick one
20:51is she okay I'm just doing dad stuff basically there's no can't find the instructions but I
20:58feel like you're just gonna wing it I'm gonna wing it and I feel confident interesting not sure I
21:07hmm gotta have faith this definitely goes here I just don't know what's what if it's a screw if
21:13is this okay so know how to do washing I'm an absolute pro at the washing the cooking we're
21:26getting there it's still an airfryer job but I cooked you breakfast the other day honestly I
21:33was like I've got the babies to sleep I did the washing I did the cleaning the hoovering I made
21:39breakfast for everyone and honestly I've never felt like such a I felt like I'd achieved so much
21:46how's this looking Jessie one thing I love about Zion is if he like needs to figure something out he
21:55will figure it out so like right now I know it doesn't look promising but I do know that eventually
21:59this will be done this is why I work so well together because we genuinely we hardly ever
22:05argue is that correct the only thing that like maybe I'm a bit like oh really is if like like
22:13when he bought the skateboard I'm like why have you bought a skateboard I broke my arm in two places
22:21on
22:21a skateboard so I just start have a phobia of skateboards and I'm just like you've got to your
22:24projection your fears onto me that's what you're doing basically what sounds like it I'm not gonna
22:30break my arm because you broke your arm when you were six years old on a skateboard all right can
22:35I
22:35understand what I'm saying I've got something that I would like to say oh here we go this is what
22:39will
22:39happen yeah I'll say to Jess what would you like for dinner and guess what she'll say she'll say
22:47whatever you want great I'll say I would love pizza guess what she says I don't want pizza
23:12oh this corner the cop looks banging this looks really really good really good don't you think
23:18we're just so lucky that this is on our doorstep don't you like who can say that this is like
23:25five
23:25minutes down the road from where they live I don't think people thought we would be able to do this
23:30no of course not I think people thought we were gonna come to new game and we were gonna be
23:36like
23:36we can't do it by ourselves yeah and we'd be back but I think we've literally smashing it I think
23:44you've taken to it literally like a duct of water you know when you can feel a little hair
23:57but on another note yeah I just want to thank you being like the best partner I could ever ask
24:06for
24:08yeah I feel like you've helped me find the love deeper than I ever thought was possible
24:17I just want you to know that that's so lovely I love you so much baby I feel exactly the
24:23same
24:32I love you so much baby so on that note
24:36on that note
25:01I love you so so much you're my best friend and you're the person I genuinely want to spend the
25:08rest of my life with I've been through so much good times we've had our challenges we've always come
25:16out stronger and you've always been the best partner I could have ever asked for the thick and thin
25:36I love you so much I can't see
25:53thank you for being your best partner
25:56you're the best partner
26:00this is the most beautiful ring ever
26:02you like it
26:04baby this is beautiful
26:05I don't know
26:14I was going to do a spin but
26:16I'm so glad you said yes
26:19someone would say no
26:20imagine no I'm alright thanks
26:23never know
26:24well you should know
26:32congratulations
26:33oh my god
26:37oh my god so you all knew
26:44how long did they know for
26:45months
26:46no
26:48are you serious
26:49oh my god
26:53okay you want to take a picky
26:55are you ready
26:56bear with eyes open or close
26:58both
26:58but I think you should get the set in
27:00yeah
27:00okay got it
27:01let me see
27:04wait okay don't give me my eyes
27:05do it again
27:16I'm not actually sure
27:17where to start with this video
27:23after the most
27:25grueling
27:28three four months
27:33and endless appointments
27:37the girls have now been diagnosed
27:41with a severe muscle disease
27:45called SMA type 1
27:50it is the most severe muscular disease
27:54that a baby can get
27:57over time
27:59it kills the muscles in the body
28:03and if it's not treated in time
28:09your baby's life expectancy
28:12will not make it past the age of two
28:17um
28:26sorry
28:30there is no cure for SMA
28:34there is only treatment that can help
28:36and so the best thing we can do right now
28:39is to get them treatment
28:41and then just hope for the best
28:45oh well done darling
28:48well done
28:49I know
28:50we were told that um
28:56they're probably
28:59never going to be able to walk
29:01they probably will
29:03never
29:06regain their neck strength
29:11I practically feel like the hospital
29:14has become my second home
29:17I also feel like I've like
29:20almost had to become like a nurse
29:21within the space of like
29:22two weeks of getting their diagnosis
29:24because I now have to you know
29:25put them on breathing machine
29:28and do lots of stuff
29:29that no mother really should ever have to do
29:31on their child
29:35the last three months
29:36has honestly been the most
29:38heartbreaking time
29:40of my life
