00:00Let's get to this.
00:00We talked a little bit about this off the top of the show today
00:02after the Panthers' thrilling win,
00:05that Brady Kachuk was in a little bit of hot water up in Ottawa
00:10who got a win against the Buffalo Sabres,
00:13and this was him getting grilled by the media about Papa Kachuk.
00:17Maybe taking some bootstraps at Brady's teammates.
00:21A lot of talks about the podcast, the last one you did with your dad
00:25and some comments made about players getting into injuries
00:28and any goalies playing back to that.
00:29Were you able to clarify that your dad might have played?
00:31Yeah, I mean, being a part of it and re-watching it,
00:35I mean, I think it was pretty clear he was talking about Florida.
00:40But, yeah, I just don't know how that got turned and misconstrued,
00:45but I know it happens.
00:46But, I mean, I know in there I thought it was clear as day
00:49he was talking about Florida, but all that other stuff
00:53and just people taking it and twisting it,
00:55just nothing I can do about it.
00:56So you don't think your dad made a shot at Linus at all?
00:59I don't think, and I talked to him after.
01:01There was not one shot.
01:02So, yeah, I don't know how that got twisted.
01:08I have to talk about it now, but I thought it was clear as day.
01:11He's talking about the Florida Panthers.
01:13Are there any of the clips about ice time?
01:15Yeah, I mean, I've answered twice now.
01:18So, I mean, it's nothing I can say that what people twist and say,
01:24I know what I was a part of it,
01:25and all those things didn't come out of my mouth.
01:27And, I mean, I completely respect my dad.
01:32He's going to be a Hall of Famer.
01:34So, I mean, I'm not going to put words in his mouth
01:38or explain what he said.
01:40He's just, you know, if you know him, he's an outgoing guy.
01:43He says kind of what he thinks,
01:44and I know it comes from a good place.
01:48He kind of looks like the blue guy from Guardians of the Galaxy
01:52with the hair thing.
01:54Yeah, you know what I'm talking about?
01:56I do. Yes, I do.
01:59Really, that's the one he came up with, though, huh?
02:01He was talking about the Panthers.
02:02Wait, I mean, first of all,
02:05he can never do this show with a straight face
02:08because dude was serious.
02:11Oh, he was talking about the Panthers.
02:14I'm like, really?
02:15Do you think Matthew texts him and he goes,
02:18that's what you came up with?
02:20Yes.
02:20I'm like, that right there.
02:25Could you imagine he would say,
02:28yo, brother, really?
02:34Really?
02:35The only thing missing in those comments was,
02:38that's fake news.
02:39That's crazy.
02:40That's the only thing missing.
02:42No, no, no.
02:42He told me.
02:43It's like, dad, you were talking about Sergei Bobrovsky, right?
02:47He's like, what?
02:49Why would I talk about Sergei Bobrovsky?
02:51He's a legend.
02:52Now, if you really want to see,
02:57because here's one of those situations
02:58where it's old guy versus new guy,
03:02go talk to his dad.
03:05Right?
03:08Crazy, man.
03:10Also, this was interesting.
03:12Jaime Jaquez Jr. was on the Zach Lowe show,
03:15and he was asked about a particular interaction last year
03:22with Jimmy Butler,
03:23and that Jaime Jaquez Jr. was trying to save the Miami Heat.
03:27Lost his joy for basketball,
03:29and I talked to someone who was in the car with him,
03:32like maybe even on the way back from that press conference,
03:35and everyone,
03:36the way I was told to be was like,
03:37people with the Heat sort of didn't know,
03:39you know,
03:39it's like, give him some time,
03:40give him some space.
03:41We're not sure what exactly is going on here.
03:43And Jimmy's phone rings,
03:44and the one guy who called him that night from the Heat was you.
03:48And what I heard was the message from Jaime was like,
03:51hey, man,
03:51we can fix this.
03:52Like, come back to us.
03:53We got a good thing going here.
03:54Like, trying to get things back together.
03:56Is that true?
03:57I'm trying to remember.
03:58I think, yeah,
04:00because I did call him after one of those,
04:02I think I did call him after one of those press conferences.
04:04I was like, hey, man,
04:06you know,
04:06like, whatever problems you got,
04:08like, I think we're here,
04:10you know,
04:10as your teammates,
04:11we're here.
04:13We want you to feel like,
04:14you know,
04:15we got your back type of thing.
04:16So,
04:17yeah,
04:18I do remember that.
04:19I don't know if it was right after that,
04:21but it was definitely,
04:21definitely something like that happened for sure.
04:27I'm not calling him,
04:28I'm not calling him a liar,
04:32but no,
04:33no,
04:33no.
04:34He could have been accurate with that.
04:37But when it comes to one thing,
04:41there ain't nothing you could say in support of Jimmy Butler.
04:43And that is when it comes to getting that extra year,
04:47when it comes to getting that money,
04:49but like,
04:50yeah,
04:51funny how he got his joy back when he got that.
04:54Contract.
04:55So,
04:56it had more to do with that than anything,
05:00you know?
05:02But it's nice that Jaime,
05:04even in a year where it was only Jaime's second year,
05:07it is nice.
05:07And he wasn't playing well.
05:09He was not playing well.
05:10It's nice to know,
05:10at least he was trying to give some support to a guy who,
05:14you know,
05:15it definitely was burning down bridges at the time.
05:18I remember there was a time where there was one press conference where Jimmy
05:20did look around the locker room and he was like,
05:22don't think I don't know who checked in on me and who didn't,
05:24you know,
05:25even though he was saying the whole time,
05:26this has nothing to do with my teammates.
05:28Right.
05:29I would say,
05:31I would say that,
05:36in moments like that,
05:39right,
05:41when you appreciate your teammates and you reach out to them or not reach
05:46out to them,
05:46right?
05:47because what Jimmy fails to realize is he thought everybody on the team
05:52would be supportive of him.
05:54That's the indication he was given.
05:56I know who called me and who didn't.
05:58And there may have been some players in that locker room that were upset at the
06:01way he was going about it.
06:02So why would he expect a phone call?
06:05Like that's,
06:06that's crazy talk right there.
06:08When at no point in time,
06:11did you say,
06:11listen,
06:13I don't want to put my,
06:14my,
06:14my teammates and my friends in this,
06:16this bad spot,
06:17but this is between me and the organization.
06:20At any point,
06:21he could have said that and maybe calmed the other stuff down.
06:24But I I've been in locker rooms where guys take you not being team guy
06:33personal,
06:34right?
06:35They take that personal and expect them to then call you in support of that.
06:39Nah,
06:40that's not fair either.
06:41It was a super awkward night in the locker room too.
06:43Sure.
06:44Tyler was like scooting out of there.
06:46He's like,
06:46this is a,
06:47you know,
06:48it was,
06:49it was not a,
06:49it was not something that everybody was like,
06:52Oh,
06:53like this is all peaches.
06:54And here's another thing as a teammate.
06:58Right.
06:58If you play with Jimmy for two or three or four years,
07:02right.
07:02You think in all those moments,
07:03you thinking of all how he,
07:05how you go back and forth with one another.
07:07And then all of a sudden,
07:08boom out.
07:10And you want a response from me.
07:12You want me to,
07:13what about all the,
07:14you know,
07:15the bromance stuff we had going on before and the jokes and the laughs or
07:19whatever,
07:20that's what has to carry us through when we struggling.
07:23We'll fix it.
07:24What do you want to see happen to fix it?
07:26What do I want to see happen?
07:28Um,
07:29I want to see me get my joy back from playing basketball and,
07:33uh,
07:34wherever that may be.
07:36Um,
07:36we'll,
07:36we'll find out here pretty soon,
07:38but I want to get my joy back.
07:40Like I'm happy here,
07:41uh,
07:42you know,
07:43off the court.
07:45Um,
07:45but I want to be,
07:46um,
07:48back to somewhere dominant.
07:49I want to hope.
07:51And I want to help this team win right now.
07:53I'm not doing that.
07:53Can you get your joy back here on the court?
07:56Probably not.
07:57So,
07:58so now did you listen to that?
08:02And let me ask you,
08:03if you were a teammate of Jimmy's,
08:07you think you're reaching for your phone to give a phone call to a guy that
08:11said,
08:11you don't make me happy.
08:13Well,
08:13that's why I'm surprised that Jaime did it.
08:16Right.
08:16But that's what I'm saying.
08:17Like,
08:18what'd you want to say on it?
08:20No,
08:20I was just saying,
08:21like,
08:21I don't think it's shocking.
08:22Cause I think Jaime and him had a very good and close relationship along with him
08:25and Nico.
08:26And actually after this clip has been circling with him,
08:28um,
08:29talking on the podcast,
08:30there was a clip on Twitter that's been going around of when Jimmy came back
08:34from his suspension and Nico and Jaime are like trying to hype him up
08:38before the game.
08:39And he literally gives him this,
08:41like,
08:43death scare.
08:44I remember that.
08:45Don't you dare.
08:47It was,
08:48he was,
08:48they were trying to include him back and it was super,
08:51cause he wanted to just stand off to the side and they wanted to like,
08:54be nice to him and try and like,
08:55get him going.
08:57And he just did it.
08:58He wanted to disconnect.
08:59He was hopeful that he could make it as awkward as possible.
09:02Well,
09:03yeah,
09:03he was,
09:03he was trying to make a big stink of things.
09:05And so was he like,
09:07but I think that's,
09:08what's like annoying.
09:09Like if I was Jaime,
09:10I would be,
09:11I would be like,
09:12I didn't talk to him.
09:13I don't know you're talking.
09:13But that's,
09:14that's the thing.
09:15Kind of miss him though.
09:16When,
09:16when you have,
09:17like I've had situations where guys have been in contract disputes or going at it
09:24with the coaches and,
09:25or they wanted to be out of there or what have you.
09:28And at no point in time did the relationship between the players was affected because it,
09:38if they put the uniform on,
09:39they balled and,
09:41and they,
09:41because you feel the responsibility to the other guys on the team,
09:45necessarily the organization or the coach.
09:47But once you put that uniform on,
09:49you got to carry your own weight for the other guys.
09:51And that's the part that Jimmy misunderstands because he's giving mixed messages the whole
09:58time.
09:58I'm just going to go out and hoop.
10:00I'm just going to go out.
10:01Oh,
10:01I'm not happy.
10:02What'd it make me have being somewhere else?
10:03And then say,
10:04I,
10:05I understand.
10:06I know who called me and who didn't.
10:08Why?
10:08You don't want to be here.
10:10But I think that's the thing with Jimmy Butler though.
10:13It's like he,
10:14and what point in his career has he ever cared about anybody but himself?
10:19That's what it's starting to look like because every situation,
10:23as long as he was happy,
10:24he made everybody else happy when he didn't get what he wanted.
10:27He wasn't happy.
10:28Everybody else was going to be miserable.
10:30You guys don't kind of miss him though.
10:32Like all the fun.
10:33I do not miss that a little bit.
10:35Like yes,
10:36I don't hate you,
10:36but there were good times too.
10:38No,
10:38you know why I don't miss that.
10:40I don't miss that for guys like Bam and Tyler and Kalel and Jaime.
10:47I really got to see him as well.
10:49All those,
10:49all those guys that really thought he was one of us could have paid him and
10:55he would have been happy.
10:56And you know,
10:56like,
10:56what are we going to do?
10:57We're not even going to do a thing with that money next year anyway.
10:59But the thing is,
11:00is like,
11:00we weren't even in a position within the last two years.
11:04We were in the same position that we're in right now.
11:06Well,
11:06that's only because he got hurt though.
11:07That's only because he got hurt.
11:09He was,
11:09he was going out there Tobin and like chucking up threes for no reason.
11:13That's not even.
11:14Well,
11:14not for no reason.
11:15I mean,
11:15they didn't pay him.
11:16He was,
11:16he was making a mistake.
11:18So again,
11:19I make you a teammate of Jimmy and then you see him sabotage and shoot one
11:23legged threes.
11:25You want to call?
11:27It would have been any sabotage if they would have paid him.
11:30That's all I'm saying.
11:31Do you understand why they didn't pay him?
11:34Cause I can.
11:35Not really.
11:36Actually right now,
11:37that's my biggest issue with it,
11:38Brittany is I don't understand why they didn't pay him.
11:40Cause what have they done with the money?
11:41They haven't done anything.
11:42Okay.
11:43That's not for lack of trying,
11:44but they didn't do anything.
11:462020 2020 2020.
11:48It's not hindsight 2020.
11:49That was my exact point with it.
11:50It's like,
11:51what are you going to get with the money?
11:53What are you going to do?
11:54You have to do it.
11:54Leroy.
11:55You have to do something.
11:56I understand why you wouldn't pay Jimmy like the red flags that would be there,
12:00but you have,
12:01when you're doing risk reward,
12:03what are you going to do with things that are less risky with the money you were so afraid to
12:07spend on?
12:07I know I say this while his knee is torn to bits,
12:09but,
12:10but that's,
12:11that wouldn't have happened if it,
12:12you know,
12:12if things would have been here.
12:13So all I'm saying is what I want to know is what are they going to do with this money
12:19that they were so against giving Jimmy Butler?
12:21And if you're telling me,
12:22Oh,
12:22cause he was a pain in the ass and he was a diva behind the scenes.
12:24Okay,
12:25dude,
12:25fine.
12:26Like that,
12:27that's grown up behavior.
12:28What has plagued this team for the last four years?
12:32Injuries.
12:33Got injuries.
12:34So,
12:35and Jimmy never played more than 55.
12:37Yeah,
12:38but what he did.
12:39No,
12:39but when again,
12:40it was a long time ago.
12:41When it came to not crunch time.
12:42No,
12:42but that wasn't recent.
12:43That wasn't recent.
12:45Dude,
12:46it was a,
12:47it was a fluke injury.
12:48Kelly Oubre shouldn't have been there.
12:49You can't like,
12:52see,
12:52you wanted to pay Jimmy,
12:54but you're,
12:54you're overlooking one of the main reasons why that he had a problem.
13:00Like they had too many guys.
13:02They had a problem with everybody.
13:02That's that.
13:03Hold on.
13:03But they have a problem with everybody.
13:05Nobody's good enough for this franchise,
13:07except for bam.
13:08Everybody right now has a red flag.
13:09I bet.
13:10I guarantee you,
13:11they will do the same thing with the Yana sweepstakes this summer.
13:14Again,
13:14we're like,
13:15well,
13:15we don't know if we want to go to a lot of leg injuries.
13:17I guarantee when they miss,
13:19when they miss out on him,
13:21what,
13:21because they don't pull off any trades anymore.
13:23Brittany,
13:24they don't,
13:24they have a,
13:25they have a,
13:26they have a caveat or an excuse every single time.
13:29Oh,
13:30well,
13:30we didn't want to give up that much for Damian Lillard or Joe Cronin was a
13:33big,
13:34big meanie.
13:35Every single time they got an excuse or a counter.
13:38Well,
13:38if you guys are so scared to give them this money,
13:41then you better do something with that money next year.
13:44Cause you haven't done Jack squat with it yet for all this talk about Jimmy
13:49Butler.
13:50You haven't done anything with it yet,
13:51but,
13:52and meanwhile,
13:53you're still getting,
13:54you're still getting kicked in the head by the Celtics every single time you
13:57face them.
13:58So,
13:59okay,
13:59I'll hear you,
14:01but you better have a solution because your solution can't just be,
14:04ah,
14:04we let them go.
14:06So here's the,
14:07the other problem is that your solution can't be,
14:11let's just accept what we have a problem with.
14:15That's not a solution.
14:17Yeah.
14:17But do they have a problem where they,
14:18they really were just being on,
14:19you don't think with,
14:21with guys not playing basketball games,
14:23you guys are,
14:24you guys are arguing two different things.
14:26I'm not defending Jimmy Butler's behavior.
14:28I'm talking about why it went awry.
14:30Your argument to not pay him,
14:32which is why he ended up the way that he did.
14:35Well,
14:35I think that there's,
14:36well,
14:36it came out after the fact that,
14:38I mean,
14:38he was,
14:38he wouldn't show up to games.
14:40He was a major diva.
14:42You don't think that also has,
14:43he's aging.
14:44He had players.
14:45That's,
14:45that's new.
14:47No,
14:47I understand that.
14:48But when you have some,
14:49you're sending,
14:49he's standing next to Bam out of bio.
14:51Who's like the epitome of like the perfect person for a franchise.
14:55Not everybody is going to ask the act the same.
14:57Not all artists play the guitar the same.
15:01But there's a,
15:01there's a,
15:03he have a pedigree that they,
15:04that they uphold their players to.
15:06Yeah.
15:07And I feel like a lot of that,
15:08and it goes back to LeBron James.
15:10You don't think that it has a lot to do with why the,
15:12the relationship with LeBron went the way that it did.
15:15It was because maybe we don't like having too big of egos in our,
15:19in our locker room.
15:20Brittany,
15:21respectfully.
15:23When LeBron left,
15:24when LeBron left,
15:25they were heartbroken.
15:26Pat Riley,
15:27it ruined his relationship with Dwayne Wade.
15:28Cause he felt like he was stabbed in the back.
15:31LeBron left the heat and left them.
15:33You don't understand.
15:33You don't think that that's like LeBron also felt that he wasn't a big thing.
15:39It was like,
15:39he wasn't getting too,
15:40he wasn't getting along very well with,
15:42with the organization.
15:43That's on the heat then.
15:44They're making the heat to look to themselves in the mirrors of why.
15:47I'm not saying the heat are perfect.
15:50I'm just saying based on what we've known.
15:53And based on what we know about Jimmy Butler and the relationship that he
15:56was called,
15:56the culture that he was cultivating in the locker room of who he was
15:59compared to everybody else,
16:01plus his injuries,
16:02plus that fact that he's an aging star.
16:04I understand why they didn't want to pay him.
16:07You can set you,
16:07look,
16:08I can understand the red flags and not wanting to pay him too,
16:10but you can't have these red flags of not wanting to pay.
16:12It's the same thing that happened with D Wade when they didn't want to pay
16:15him.
16:15They're like,
16:16Oh,
16:16we have these aging superstars.
16:17And what do they do?
16:18They paid Dion waiters.
16:19They paid us on white side.
16:20You can't,
16:21you can't say we have all of these trepidations of paying somebody.
16:25And then you don't do anything smart with the money.
16:29You do have to take care of your stars.
16:31If you're going to put up all these red flags,
16:33then you need to at least go to your families and be like,
16:36but this is the plan.
16:37And the problem with the heat is they like to make it seem like
16:40everybody's a big meanie pants.
16:42And that that's why we couldn't have them around instead of you kind of
16:46feel like you guys were on the cheap skis and they've done nothing with
16:49the money.
16:51That is a lack of trying or they,
16:53I don't want to hear about trying enough of telling me about trying
16:56everything.
16:56You got an explanation in a song and dance while you haven't done
16:59anything,
17:00but enough of that,
17:01you can't,
17:02that's the problem.
17:03I can't blame them.
17:04I can't be wrong.
17:05I can't blame them.
17:06I don't think that I don't think that Portland was going to send
17:09Damien Lillard here.
17:10And I don't know that that's the heat fault.
17:13They were going to give them time.
17:15They were going to give them the house and they said,
17:17no,
17:19and now here's the thing.
17:21How happy would you be now?
17:23Hindsight 2020.
17:24How happy would you be to giving up Kahlil where for Kevin Durant this
17:27off season?
17:27Are you,
17:28would you be happy with that decision?
17:30Yeah,
17:30I think I would have because they don't play Kahlil.
17:33Like I'm here sitting here at the end of the year.
17:35It's the same thing.
17:35Like if you would have said,
17:36aren't you happy in the Jimmy trade?
17:37You got Yaka Jonas.
17:38I like Yaka Jonas.
17:39They don't play him.
17:40The coach won't play him.
17:42Nothing pleases him.
17:43The only person they like is Bam Adebayo.
17:46Everybody else,
17:46they can tell,
17:47Oh,
17:47Bam,
17:48you're the best.
17:49Guess what?
17:49He's he,
17:50not everybody plays like him.
17:52Some basketball players are divas.
17:55Tyler hero shows up to the game in rain boots and he works very hard.
17:57I'm just saying like he does,
17:59but Bam does not wear rain boots.
18:00Like dude,
18:01not everybody is Bam Adebayo and they need to get that out of their head.
18:04But then,
18:05you know,
