00:0078 points in his 77 games.
00:03He's played them all.
00:05As have McLeod, Quinn.
00:08How about Quinn playing them all after the career he's had?
00:13Yeah, good for him.
00:14Yeah.
00:15Good season.
00:16Got a chance to score 20.
00:18It's 18 goals.
00:19Doan has played them all.
00:20Byram and Krebs.
00:23Malenstein missed one.
00:25So did Power.
00:29I wonder what team has the most players that have played in every game.
00:33Seems pretty good if your guys can make it through the entire season and not miss a game.
00:36Which we're not there yet.
00:38But Sabres have six players.
00:39Eight.
00:41Including players who've missed one game.
00:43And that's again Power and Malenstein.
00:47So what is the play tonight?
00:49Do I have to make it about revenge?
00:52I won the game.
00:53I held up physically.
00:54And the guy that I might want to put a target on isn't there.
00:58Do I need to do anything about it?
01:00Can I let it come to me?
01:02I kind of think that's what you should do.
01:07Yeah.
01:08I mean, I think Hagel not being there changes it a lot.
01:13Because I think I would have had a hard time saying, don't put all your beef in the lineup.
01:24Because I think I would have expected my hockey team.
01:27I think I would have wanted my hockey team to make it about making sure you get him.
01:32And I don't even know that I would have needed it to be like, you know, because often this is
01:37how this goes.
01:38Like, he knows what he did against Darlene the last time.
01:41And he may tell you privately.
01:43I doubt he would tell you publicly that it was warranted because of something Darlene did to him.
01:47I don't know.
01:47Whatever, right?
01:48He said, she said.
01:49Or he said, he said in this case.
01:54Drop him on the opening, pick a guy.
01:57Who's it going to be that makes sense, right?
01:59Logan Stanley is not fighting Brandon Hagel.
02:01At least if I'm Tampa, like, that's ridiculous.
02:04I mean, Hagel's a tough customer, can handle himself, but he is not a fighter.
02:09I mean, he fought one of the Kachuk brothers at the Four Nations thing.
02:13And he's fought, you know, but he's not a big guy, not a big fighter guy.
02:18So you need, like, the right guy in your lineup, like Malenstein, maybe, right?
02:23And they fight off the opening draw, and then we have a hockey game.
02:28You know, if he's playing, you could do that.
02:31You could also not do anything until you get a chance to really get him and go that route.
02:36And, you know, there's something to be said for that.
02:39But without him there, I don't know what I'm doing exactly.
02:44Am I going to go try to get Kucherev?
02:50Because he's dirty, too.
02:51I mean, he didn't punch Darlene in the back of the head, but he's a nasty piece of business for
02:56a superstar player.
02:57What happened at the end of that game?
02:59Didn't he slash somebody?
03:00Yeah, he was right in a thing at the end of it.
03:04So, you know, if you want to do that, I mean, it's there for you, but I don't really need
03:10it.
03:10Boy, if something like that happens, where it looks like it's an intentional run at him, then it's really going
03:18to be escalated.
03:19Yeah.
03:19I mean, now you're dealing with whatever.
03:21Now you're going to have coaches screaming at each other.
03:23Yeah, but to be fair, what Hagel did to Darlene was that already.
03:30And nothing has happened to Hagel about it.
03:33I mean, the game was mayhem, you know, really the whole way, but I don't think the Sabres, I think
03:42it would be right for them to not feel as though they've gotten their pound of flesh there, that they've
03:47evened the score, that they settled, that somebody stood up for Darlene getting, you know, handled that way.
03:55And so, you know, Kucherov is to the, I mean, he's, it's a tough, you know, any team, there's like
04:00three teams in the league that have a guy that's as good as Kucherov.
04:03All right.
04:03But like Darlene's our best guy or one of them.
04:06It's the same as if Thompson had been abused like that.
04:09You'd want retribution.
04:11So maybe you just go looking for the, the, the, the next best idea.
04:15And I think Kucherov would be very much so at the top of the list, not only because he's the
04:22star and you feel you're owed a pound of flesh, but he also has enough of a temper that if
04:29you get him just right, he might do something stupid and get himself thrown out of the game.
04:33Cause he's, he's got a, he's, he's, he's got a bad temper.
04:37Boy, for that guy to get thrown out, it would have to be something to really do something.
04:40I know.
04:41Right.
04:42So I don't know.
04:43Like, I, I feel like I'm all over the road here because, um, I said earlier when we're talking to
04:50Sal, I do, I do sort of feel like Tampa already got one over on us because we're, we're loading
04:56up the, we're doing everything we can short of calling the big tough guy who can't play up from the
05:02minors.
05:04So I, I, I almost wish they would treat it more like, like we're trying to go win the hockey
05:10game.
05:11Um, and not so worried about the physical stuff.
05:13Although maybe they feel like they need to handle the physical stuff in order to win the hockey game.
05:18But I don't know.
05:19My, my thought is it's up to the Sabres to initiate the physical stuff.
05:23They're the team that was wronged.
05:26I think objectively speaking, because of Hagel on Darlene.
05:31And if you want to just come out and play, maybe Tampa agrees and they just have a game.
05:37But if the Sabres want to make it into something, then, then you're probably going to have something.
05:42I think there's another facet to this, which is that getting Stanley and Shen in the first place was a
05:50specific, as it would be, uh, with, with a specific agenda in mind, whether or not it is specific to
05:57the lightning.
05:58I don't think it has to be, but they wanted to get bigger in the back and they did, and
06:06it's still in progress.
06:08You know, it really was about the playoffs, not making it because they were already in great position to make
06:13it, or it could be about first place.
06:16Really?
06:17It's somewhat of an experiment and it's still going and it hasn't always looked good so far.
06:24I would say, for the most part, it looks like a failure.
06:28I mean, Shen doesn't play.
06:30He played a couple and he's going to play tonight, but, you know, they're not forcing him on us, if
06:35you will.
06:36Stanley has played them all, I think, since, from a certain point.
06:40Yeah, since he, from after that game.
06:41Once he got his visa thing straightened out, yeah.
06:45And it does, it hasn't happened yet that they look like a better team for it.
06:49You know, that hasn't manifested, I would say.
06:51I think most would agree with that.
06:53But, again, it's really more about the playoffs than it is these last 15 games or whatever it is.
07:00So, I want to sort of hold on to, you're still trying to figure out what you want to be.
07:07And it's not just that you are thinking about whether there's going to be another, you know, blast off tonight
07:13with Tampa Bay in town.
07:15But, again, just more of the big picture.
07:16I think what they want, I think their best case scenario isn't Shen, I think, of course.
07:22But it's that Stanley gives them the thing, that he's good enough.
07:27That's the question, right?
07:28Is he good enough?
07:29I don't need, let me be clear here.
07:31Shen is really the thing that the Sabres are doing.
07:34And I guess Dunn, too.
07:36But Dunn has had his moments this year.
07:38And he can play, and, like, he doesn't hurt them, and he's a tough dude.
07:43So, like, I'm good there.
07:45Shen is really the one that, to me, because Stanley, I don't need Stanley to come out of the lineup.
07:50I recognize he's not playing well.
07:53But what am I trying to do here?
07:55Like, you're saying, they got him with a role in mind.
08:00And it has not gone smoothly at all so far with a variety of partners.
08:06I think the worst it's been is when he's been with Shen, and that's who you're going to get tonight.
08:12But, Stanley, you should be still trying to make sure, make that work.
08:18Like, you wanted him for the harder game in the playoffs, on the walls, and behind the net,
08:23and in front of the net, and all the things that are cliches about having a big, long-reach, meanish
08:30defenseman, 6'7".
08:32You want a physical presence there for the playoffs, and it hasn't really gone well yet.
08:40You still want to try to see that through and get it on the rails so that it is something
08:45that isn't hurting you
08:47by the time the playoffs begin.
08:49Shen is the piece in the lineup.
08:51And, again, I get it, Metson did not have a good night Saturday, but that doesn't mean it didn't get
08:56one bad game.
08:58And he's on the bench for a guy that I know is not going to help them.
09:03I mean, Shen is not going to help them.
09:05If they just survive his shifts and their shifts, that'll be a win.
09:11And I think that might be asking for a lot against this team.
09:15Here's Craig with us.
09:16Hi, Craig.
09:17Hey, guys.
09:18I think, Shope, you're right on point.
09:20This is more playoffs.
09:22It's about getting the lineup kind of figured out.
09:25And in spot service, Shen and Stanley have a very potentially decent role as long as they're not taking other
09:31guys' spots up.
09:32Shen does have a lot of playoff experience.
09:34He's been to a comp.
09:35I think that matters for this as a much younger team to have a little bit of that to lean
09:40on.
09:40Would I still put both of them in?
09:42No.
09:42But they're still tinkering.
09:45You know, the goal is the playoffs.
09:46And you have to be willing to tinker now because when the time comes, it's more physical.
09:50There's less penalties.
09:51There's less space.
09:52You need to be able to really earn that.
09:54And I think there's something to be said to some extent about having those guys in for that.
09:59Very good.
10:00Thanks, Craig.
10:01Here's Brian with us.
10:02Hi, Brian.
10:03Hey, guys.
10:04The two points that I would have for tonight is, man, I've got to start worrying a little bit about
10:10Osland, I think.
10:11I mean, this was supposed to be a day-to-day injury, and now this is going to be the
10:14sixth game he misses tonight.
10:16And that's really screwing up two lines, obviously, because he would play in the top nine, and somebody would drop
10:21down and get guys like Greenway and Dunn and Kozak, just guys that aren't quite ready to contribute anymore.
10:30Like, they would just not be in the lineup.
10:31And then, like, the big four, man, that are kind of missing these veteran presences from our team.
10:37Like, right now, man, we are just not getting anything.
10:39It's been well-documented, obviously, on the cloud.
10:41But also, like, Norris, Tuck, and Zucker have been pretty quiet here the last two weeks.
10:46You know, with all this end of the roster kind of playing tonight, Shen, Greenway, guys like that, Dunn.
10:53And, man, those top four or five, they've got to have a huge night.
10:57And I just – I think that's where we've slowed down, obviously, since Osland is, like – you just notice
11:03they're just not as fast.
11:05Yeah, I think that's a really good point on Osland.
11:08And I don't know – I guess I – you know, we knew he wasn't going on the trip.
11:14Except nobody said he'd be back when they got home.
11:17But I'm a little – it's a little jarring that he's not there yet.
11:21I mean, they've got time.
11:22And I understand – I don't want to rush anything.
11:25But I guess – I just – I agree with you.
11:27They miss him.
11:28I think he really helps that Norris line work.
11:32And he – it's clear Lindy trusts him anywhere on the ice in any situation, late in a game, protecting
11:39a lead, whatever.
11:40He's become a very important player for them.
11:43And I think they miss him.
11:46Though I don't know – like, all the guys you mentioned aren't the same to me.
11:50Like, idealized lineup, I mean, no Carrick, that hurts.
11:55I got room for Greenway to play on my fourth line in the playoffs all day long.
12:00He's not someone I need to squeeze out if Osland, you know, is healthy.
12:06I think I'm going to want to try to find a way to make that work.
12:09But I know, it's going to get crowded eventually when everybody's healthy.
12:12But they – I think they miss Osland, for sure.
12:15That's why – I mean, Lindy tried to jumble the lines up.
12:17Obviously, that didn't work.
12:20So, we'll see what we get tonight.
12:23Greenway.
12:24Two nicknames.
12:28Hockeyreference.com.
12:30Greeny.
12:31Greener.
12:32Greener.
12:34Bad job by me.
12:35Really?
12:36I mean, it's – could have gone either way.
12:38I like – yeah.
12:39There's so many guys that you can only have the Y with that if you have a guy that doesn't
12:43need the Y, you do it.
12:45And Greener was gettable.
12:47Plus, Greenway already has a Y.
12:49Right.
12:49So, we're going to change that.
12:50It's not really that different.
12:51We don't need another Y.
12:52So, Greener was –
12:53Y for a Y.
12:54I should have thought it through.
12:55Greener was there for the taking.
12:57Other one's tougher.
12:59You've got to know it to know it.
13:00I'll bet.
13:00Yeah.
13:03The Lumberjack.
13:04Not a bad guess.
13:06Big Rig.
13:07Okay.
13:07The Big Rig.
13:08That's Pat Maroon.
13:10Pat Maroon was Big Rig?
13:12Yeah.
13:12Really?
13:12Yeah.
13:13This guy's 6'6".
13:14Yeah.
13:15Was he 6'6"?
13:16He's big.
13:17I don't know about 6'6".
13:17Pat Maroon.
13:18Pat Maroon.
13:19Like, super high draft pick?
13:20Pat Maroon?
13:21No, you're going to Pat Falloon.
13:24Pat Falloon was the second pick in a draft in Buffalo.
13:30And they caught – he had weight problems, and he was nicknamed – I don't know if this
13:33will be a hockey reference, but Balloon Falloon.
13:36Oh, no.
13:37Well, in case the guy's down about that, I did win an NHL 94 Cup with him.
13:41Pat Maroon was on – he had a run – he was St. Louis' Cup and then Tampa's Cup.
13:48Or Cups.
13:49Like, he had a run where he was just in – he was on the Cup-winning team maybe three
13:54years in a row, if I have that right.
13:55If it's 19, 20, and 21.
13:58Anyway, he's retired now.
14:00But Big Rig was his nickname.
14:02You know a lot.
14:03I think I'm thinking of someone else still.
14:05Yeah.
14:05Not Falloon.
14:06I wouldn't have made that mistake.
14:07No, right.
14:08That's a generation ago.
14:09There's somebody else in between, maybe.
14:13I'll maybe bother to try to find out.
14:16He's –
14:16Can't promise.
14:17I don't know where I saw – he's on TV somewhere.
14:20I saw him talking hockey somewhere.
14:22He's the new host of Wheel of Fortune.
14:23Maroon.
14:23Oh.
14:24Hmm.
14:24I don't think that was it.
14:25It went Ryan Seacrest, now it's Pat Maroon.
14:28The Big Rig.
14:30Asking people if they want to buy vowels.
14:32There's probably been like 20 Big Rigs.
14:35You think?
14:35It's a good nickname.
14:36Big Rig.
14:37Yeah.
14:40Greenway.
