Joe DiBiase and Owen Parker discuss the Sabres loss to Ottawa and they discuss the importance of home ice in the playoffs.
Transcript
00:00I mean, how afraid, though, should we really be about the difference
00:04between opening at home and opening on the road
00:08beyond just the simple fact that we want them to open at home?
00:13Everyone wants them to open at home.
00:15The celebration of the first playoff game, party in the plaza,
00:18give me a weekday afternoon with everybody outside before the game
00:22hanging out, and that could still happen in a game three.
00:26Is it – where are we in the NHL these days?
00:29Is it that less likely to win a series if you don't have home ice advantage?
00:36I mean, the Panthers just won the Stanley Cup, I believe,
00:40not having home ice advantage in one single series.
00:44Yeah, that's correct, I think.
00:47It helps, certainly, but I think that it's long been known that it's not a –
00:54I think in football it's a greater advantage than it is in hockey.
00:57I think could be, you know, if not just because you do play games at home still.
01:02Like, you get series that come back no matter what.
01:05You're not getting zero games at home.
01:08And, you know, I don't know how much the crowd is able to impact a hockey game
01:13as, you know, when compared to a football game.
01:16I think that can be a little different.
01:17So, I think home ice would – it's really more about the emotion of it, I think,
01:22than anything else for Sabres fans and for me.
01:26I would rather see them, obviously, start at home so we get that moment.
01:30We get to watch the first playoff game there in the building.
01:34I think that would be special.
01:35But it doesn't – I don't think it – what, does it change their odds
01:39to win the first round by 5%, 10%?
01:43Probably not even 10%.
01:44Right.
01:45Is it even that much?
01:46So, I don't know.
01:48I would feel better – I think it would mean more to me if they dropped out of that
01:53in terms of their momentum than for the actual home ice advantage.
01:59Right.
01:59I would think that if they drop out of opening at home, they're not going to be playing as well.
02:04They're going to be feeling worse about their game.
02:07So, I'm probably going to not be as confident going into that series.
02:11Right.
02:11It'll feel like they kind of – they regressed along the way here at the end.
