00:22I have to show that house on Crestwood in like an hour so this better be good since
00:28you made me drive all the way here. Hello? What are you doing? No! You don't have to do this!
00:46No!
01:11Hey Matt this place is just wow I'm afraid to ask but how are you able to
01:20live with this? Anything for my birthday girl? Linda was a daughter of a very hard-working
01:27immigrant. She was able to get into the College of St. Elizabeth on scholarships. Very very bright
01:32girl. Very very innocent girl. Give me your hand. I love you. You know that right? Matt you're so sweet.
01:47And if I haven't said so yet that light that dress you look like a star. You have said so
02:01like a hundred times.
02:03So beautiful. I'm glad you think so. Thank you. Matthew was a very charismatic person. He was
02:13very friendly. He is your classic tall dark air good-looking young man. So Matthew's attention
02:20to Linda was incredibly flattering for someone from her background. She thought she was achieving
02:26the American dream. Baby I know we've gone through some rough patches with the cheating. Matt I've told you a
02:36hundred
02:36times I did not cheat on you. That was all in your head. About a week before her birthday Linda
02:46had gone
02:47with some friends down to Mexico and when she came back all he did was accuse her of sleeping with
02:52other
02:52guys. And she kept telling him Matthew nothing is further from the truth. Baby it's just that I love
02:58you so much that I always want to be around you. And when I'm not with you I don't know
03:02my mind goes
03:04spinning. Where is she? Who is she with? You're so hot. I mean can you blame me? Look what I'm
03:12saying is that
03:13I'm glad we could put that in the past and now I can just focus on you. Just you. Matthew
03:20was the first
03:21boy she had ever slept with. And this was significant to Matthew. He took great pleasure
03:26in reminding her that he had taken her cherry so to speak. Now I have another birthday surprise for you.
03:36Well Matt you are too much. And it is absolutely going to blow you away.
03:45After you. After their five star dinner atop New York's World Trade Center. Matthew Heikula and his girlfriend Linda Perez
03:54head for Matthew's house in New Jersey. Where the 20 year old birthday girl's next surprise awaits.
04:00Wait Linda. Damn it. I think I left the parking ticket on the table. I thought I had it.
04:11Well did you check your pockets? Did you check your pockets? Yes I checked my pockets. How else would I
04:16know I didn't have the stupid ticket?
04:23I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to sniff at you. I just want things to be so perfect tonight.
04:34I'm sorry. Look. Here I'll tell you what. You go start the car. I'm going to run inside and check
04:44the restaurant. I'll be right back.
04:46Okay. Well let me go with you. I'll show you one minute. Let's go start the car. One minute. I'll
04:52be right back. Okay.
04:53I'll be right back.
05:01I'll be right back.
05:08I'll be right back.
06:23Oh, my God, he scared me.
06:24Oh, baby, did I scare you?
06:27Sorry.
06:28All right, let's get out of here.
06:29Let me see the keys.
06:57Let me see the keys.
07:00Since graduating from high school, Matthews struggled through a series of odd jobs and dabbled in drugs.
07:07Just open it already. Jeez.
07:09Josh, don't you dare open this until your dad gets down here.
07:13Dr. Richard Heikela was a very well-respected researcher who was laying the groundwork for curing Parkinson's disease.
07:23John Heikela was a realtor in Basking Ridge.
07:26She was a typical Basking Ridge mother that loved her sons.
07:31We already know what it's going to say, so just open it.
07:35They bring Josh God to Dartmouth.
07:37Yeah, Josh.
07:38Matthew was adopted, and Josh was a biological child of the Heikelas.
07:43The Heikelas got the news that Dawn was pregnant with Josh the week after they had adopted Matthew.
07:53They thought, isn't this great?
07:55We're going to have two sons.
07:58Okay, I'm here.
07:59Let's go.
07:59Let's go.
07:59Let's go, buddy.
08:00Open it up already.
08:01Let's go.
08:01There goes nothing.
08:03Josh was a bright boy, very easygoing.
08:06He was valedictorian of his class.
08:09Matthew was sort of taking the other path, doing some petty things as a juvenile, getting involved negatively with police.
08:16Dear Ms. Heikela, greetings from the admissions department.
08:19Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
08:21We are happy to inform you you've been accepted.
08:24I'm so excited.
08:27Congratulations.
08:28Matthew was always telling his friends that because he was adopted and Josh was their natural-born child, that Josh
08:36got all of the attention.
08:37If anything, Matthew was the one who was the center of attention, and when he wasn't, he made himself the
08:43center of attention.
08:44Congratulations.
08:52Your surprise awaits.
08:53At around 11 p.m., Matthew and Linda arrive at the Heikela house.
08:58What's the surprise?
09:00If I told you what the surprise was, it would ruin the surprise.
09:05What about your parents?
09:07Trust me.
09:08You don't have to worry about my parents.
09:10Just go upstairs.
09:15Oh, baby, cover your eyes.
09:23Don't worry.
09:24I got you.
09:26I don't want you to hurt yourself.
09:30For she's a jolly good fellow.
09:35For she's a jolly good fellow.
09:42Almost there.
09:43For she's a jolly good fellow.
09:50Which nobody can deny.
09:54Happy birthday, Linda.
09:56You didn't look, no.
10:10It's January 29th, 1991.
10:13The night of Linda Perez's 20th birthday.
10:16After treating her to an exquisite dinner in New York City, Linda's boyfriend, Matthew Heikela, has brought her back to
10:22his parents' house in New Jersey.
10:24For one more surprise.
10:25All right, baby, cover your eyes.
10:28And this one is a real bomb shot.
10:32Oh, my God.
10:34Oh, my God.
10:35Oh, my God.
10:36What you expected?
10:38Matt, that's your mother.
10:41Yep.
10:42That's what shotgun will do to you, baby.
10:44Click, click, boom.
10:45Bye-bye, Mom.
10:49Oh, I take it you don't like it.
10:53Well, don't worry.
10:56There's more.
10:57Hold on.
10:58I say give me your hands.
11:01No, no, stop.
11:04You're going to ruin the next surprise.
11:08Surprise.
11:13She's a jolly good fellow.
11:18She's a jolly good fellow.
11:20No, no, no, no, no.
11:22She's a jolly good fellow.
11:29She's a jolly good fellow.
11:30Which nobody can deny.
11:41Oh, Mr. Hyga.
11:44Oh, Mr. Hyga.
11:48Oh, Mr. Hyga.
11:53Oh, Mr. Hyga.
12:13That's your father.
12:15Bingo.
12:16Big shot doctor.
12:19Well, look at you now, Dad.
12:22Not so smart anymore, huh?
12:25You want to know what surprise number three is?
12:28No. No.
12:30No, come on.
12:32No.
12:32Why not?
12:34No.
12:36Surprise number three.
12:37No.
12:39No.
12:42You're next.
12:43No.
12:45Matthew Heikela was in trouble from a very young age.
12:49He was a quintessential bully.
12:53We got a call, officer.
12:55You have our son here.
12:56He was a kid that people really didn't like,
13:00but because they liked the Heikela's so much, they accepted Matthew.
13:05I'm Richard Heikela and this is his mother, Dawn.
13:07Matthew was well known to the police force in Basking Ridge.
13:11He had seen our detectives, myself included, for minor acts of delinquency.
13:18Did you bring those charging, Dawn?
13:20Oh, yeah.
13:22All right.
13:22Yeah, just have a seat and I'll get them ready.
13:24Thanks.
13:25Dawn and Richard were very concerned about the way Matthew was going.
13:37Well, I don't even know what to say, Matt.
13:41You took $3,000 from the safe at work.
13:45You know what that means?
13:46That's felony theft.
13:48You could get five years in jail for that.
13:51I'm forgetting one thing, Dad.
13:52What's that?
13:53I had nothing to do with this.
13:55Nothing.
13:57Yeah.
13:58You know what?
13:59Forget it.
14:02It's like no matter what happens, I get blamed.
14:05You know what would be nice if, if once, just for once, you looked at the facts, instead of buying
14:10whatever some...
14:11Matt!
14:12I am looking at the facts.
14:15And the fact is that you are constantly, one way or another, constantly in trouble.
14:21The break-in at the Rogers house.
14:23The, the Jeep you flipped over last month.
14:25The credit cards.
14:26Richard, stop!
14:27Just, whatever.
14:28He's been in jail for the last ten hours.
14:30Let's just get home.
14:32All right, Dad.
14:33Don't you even care that I've been locked for something I didn't even do?
14:37All right.
14:38All right.
14:39Honey.
14:41I know it's hard.
14:46Maybe it's time we go back to counseling.
14:50What about that doctor we talked to at the Warm Springs Center?
14:54You liked her.
14:56Remember?
14:58Mom?
15:00Are you forgetting that Warm Springs is an insane asylum?
15:04Is that what you want?
15:05You want me locked away in one of those, those places?
15:07Do you, do you know what goes on in there?
15:08No.
15:09That's not what I'm saying.
15:10Matt, come on.
15:12Your mother and I just want what's best for you.
15:14Yeah.
15:15You know that.
15:16Of course.
15:17It would be easier if, if I just went away.
15:21It would be easier for the two of you.
15:23For your real son, Josh.
15:26Then the three of you could have your perfect little family.
15:30Without me.
15:33Matthew Hykela always had somebody else to blame.
15:36He's incredibly manipulative.
15:38But Richard and Dawn thought by showing him how much they cared about him.
15:44That they could deal with the problems themselves.
15:48But now, it's all too clear that Hykela's couldn't fix Matthew's problems.
15:53And Linda is terrified that she might not get out of this alive.
15:57No!
15:59No!
16:01Matt, no!
16:02Why are you taking it?
16:04Why are you taking this?
16:09Why?
16:10Why?
16:12Because I can't let you go now that you've seen everything.
16:14That's why.
16:15Why?
16:22Sit on the bed.
16:25Sit on the bed!
16:37You know there are other reasons I have to kill you, Linda?
16:43I love you.
16:46And you never loved me back.
16:49It was all lies.
16:50No, Matthew!
16:51I did love you!
16:53I'm sorry.
16:54What was that you just said?
16:57Oh, what?
17:00You loved me?
17:02As in love me past tense?
17:05As in not anymore?
17:06A whore?
17:08Yeah, I guess that's true.
17:10It is past tense.
17:11Otherwise, you wouldn't have cheated on me when you were in Mexico last month.
17:15Oh, Matthew!
17:15I didn't cheat on you!
17:16I told you a thousand times!
17:18It was a strip with my school!
17:20I didn't cheat!
17:21I didn't cheat ever!
17:21Don't!
17:22Don't!
17:22Don't sit there and lie to me!
17:24I know you did!
17:25I know it!
17:27Where else would you have been when I called the hotel at 2 in the morning?
17:30And then you get at 3 in the morning?
17:33And then I get at 4 in the morning?
17:35Where else would you have been?
17:37Tell me where!
17:37Tell me!
17:39Stop lying!
17:46It doesn't matter anymore.
17:49I have to kill you.
17:53You saw what I've done.
17:57I can't let you go.
18:02They said they loved me.
18:05They lied.
18:14Same as you.
18:18No!
18:19Matthew!
18:20What are you doing?
18:22No!
18:23No!
18:25No!
18:26No!
18:26No!
18:29Nobody!
18:30What does it look like I'm doing, Linda?
18:32No, no!
18:43On her 20th birthday, Linda Perez's boyfriend, Matthew Heikula, promised her a night to remember.
18:49I have another birthday surprise for you.
18:53Now, back at his parents' house in New Jersey, she finds herself in a fight for her life.
18:59Matthew, what are you doing?
19:01What does it look like I'm doing, Linda?
19:04No! No! No!
19:08There were three things that Matthew wanted to impress on Linda that night.
19:13Three surprises that he had for her.
19:16The first was that he had killed his mother.
19:18The second, that he had killed his father.
19:20And the third, that he was going to kill her too.
19:24Were you happy at that fancy restaurant tonight, Linda?
19:29I hope so.
19:31Because I want you to die with a good memory.
19:33Please don't kill me.
19:36You know me.
19:37You know I'm a good person.
19:39You don't have to do this.
19:41Matt.
19:44I love you.
19:48Love.
19:50Present tense.
19:52You know that.
19:54Matt, there has never been anyone else but you.
19:57Just you.
19:58This is where the core strength of this young girl came through, trying to figure out a way.
20:05How am I going to live?
20:07And she resolved herself that she was not about to give up.
20:11Can't you just put the gun down?
20:15Please.
20:16Just put it down.
20:17It's scaring me.
20:26Though she's managed to distract Matthew for the moment, she has no idea what he might do next.
20:54Give me your hands.
21:06I need to sleep.
21:10So do you.
21:14Tomorrow's going to be a big day.
21:19Lauren, baby, can you reach over and turn out that light?
21:33Matthew?
21:36What happens tomorrow?
21:43You just don't want to get on Matthew's bad side.
21:46Once that happens, once he's turned on you, you see this face of an angel literally in front of you,
21:56transformed into the soul of Satan.
22:02Do you hear the words that are coming out of my mouth?
22:04This, this alert proves it, Dad.
22:06It proves everything that I've been saying right here.
22:09Matt, your brother was away at camp and we wrote him a letter.
22:11That's all.
22:12That's all it was.
22:14Okay, okay, okay.
22:14Here, here.
22:15Josh, your father and I want you to know that we are so happy that you made National Honor Society.
22:22See, this part right here, right here, this might be my favorite part.
22:24Matthew, that letter.
22:26Don't interrupt me.
22:30But what we are most proud of is the fact that you're turning out to be a caring, responsible, and
22:35kind person.
22:37You see, this is everything I've been saying for years, right here in black and white.
22:41It's Josh, Josh, Josh, Josh.
22:43Where's my letter, Dad, huh?
22:45Matt.
22:45Where's my letter, where?
22:46Matt, if you'd have been away at camp, we'd have written you a letter, too.
22:50Just face it, Dad.
22:51You don't care about me.
22:52Matt, listen.
22:52You don't love me.
22:53Matt, listen.
22:54You never have.
22:54Matt, listen.
22:55Stop interrupting me!
22:57You listen to me!
22:59Okay, okay, okay.
23:00I'm listening.
23:01Stop.
23:01Matt, please.
23:02I love you.
23:04And your mother loves you.
23:06Josh loves you, too.
23:07I swear to God.
23:08You say his name one more time.
23:11Okay, I won't say it.
23:11And I'll blow your head off.
23:12I won't say it anymore.
23:13Better yet?
23:14Maybe I'll just kill myself.
23:15No, no, no.
23:16Matt, Matt.
23:16No.
23:16Matt.
23:16How would that be, dear old Dad?
23:18Oh, isn't that the high killer house?
23:21Isn't that where that kid Matthew killed himself?
23:23My son has a gun.
23:24He's threatening me.
23:25Just think about it.
23:27Josh and Mom having to eat in this kitchen, knowing that my brains, or maybe your brains
23:33are all over the place.
23:34We're 20 Addison Drive.
23:37Matt, Matt, where you going?
23:40Matt.
23:41Matt.
23:43Matt.
23:44Just fire up.
23:46Matt.
23:51Matthew put something like 13 bullets into his father's car.
23:59We charged Matthew with possession of a weapon and also terroristic threats.
24:05Bail was set at $25,000.
24:07As part of the bail condition, we took him to Somerset Hospital, and he was committed.
24:14But Matthew only stays at Somerset for a few days.
24:18With their younger son Josh away at school, Don and Richard Heikela are convinced all Matt
24:23needs is some one-on-one attention home.
24:25But what they don't realize is that this is just the beginning.
24:30The police had their eye on Matthew Heikela.
24:33Friends of Don and Richard Heikela had this feeling that something, something bad would happen eventually with them.
24:41So really, the only people who were absolutely shocked at the murders of Don and Richard Heikela were Don and
24:49Richard Heikela.
24:53Matthew fell asleep very quickly, and Linda spent the rest of the hours trying to figure out how could she
25:02possibly stay alive.
25:12Did I wake you?
25:15I didn't mean to.
25:16It's just that my arm hurts.
25:18It's all twisted because of the handcuffs.
25:32Matthew.
25:38You don't have to kill me, you know?
25:43Yes, I do.
25:45You know what I did, you saw?
25:47I have to kill you, and then I have to get away from this place.
25:52For good.
25:55I know you have to get away from here.
25:58I could go with you.
26:03What do you mean, go with me?
26:06We could go to Jamaica.
26:10You liked Jamaica when we went there last year, right?
26:13We could go there.
26:15No one knows us there.
26:17We could start over.
26:18Just you and I.
26:21Jamaica's beautiful.
26:23I don't know, though.
26:26I'll let you know in the morning, okay?
26:30Can you imagine laying there next to a person who's got a shotgun on one side and you on the
26:38other side?
26:39And he falls asleep, and you're wondering, at any minute, this crazy person could wake up and just decide, you
26:49know what?
26:50It's over.
26:50I did it to my mom and dad.
26:52Now I'm going to do it to you.
26:57Hail Mary, full of grace.
27:01The Lord is with thee.
27:04Listen up now.
27:25Here, hold up your hand.
27:30Oh, oh, Matthew.
27:47You know, I thought about what you said last night.
27:54About the two of us going to Jamaica.
27:59You want to know what I decided to do?
28:10After spending the night of her birthday handcuffed to her murderous boyfriend, Matthew Heikula,
28:16New York College student Linda Perez is amazed she's still alive when the sun rises the next morning.
28:22I'm telling you, that girl did not get one wink of sleep that night.
28:28After you've murdered your mother and father, and you've threatened your girlfriend,
28:32you want to sleep on it overnight to see if you're going to murder her when you wake up in
28:36the morning?
28:37If that is not a monster, tell me the definition.
28:42Do you want to know what I decided to do?
28:53I decided we should go to Jamaica.
28:57Together.
28:58Matthew had stolen his father's credit card once before and fled to Jamaica.
29:04So in his mind, he had friends there, and he thought, what a great place to go back to.
29:09We'll leave today.
29:11We'll just head to the airport and catch the first guy to Jamaica.
29:14Oh, Matthew.
29:16You have no idea how happy you just made me.
29:19It's the best thing for us to do.
29:22I just know it.
29:23You see?
29:24All the time, in her head, the only thing she's trying to do is stay alive long enough to figure
29:32out,
29:32how in the hell am I going to get out of here?
29:38Yeah.
29:40If this is a trick, you know you're dead.
29:47Baby, I'm sorry.
29:52I want to be with you.
29:58But one thing, we have to go to my house, because I have to get my passport.
30:05I can't fly without it.
30:08It'll only take a minute.
30:16Okay.
30:18Okay, okay.
30:20Yeah, we'll supply your house.
30:22You can pack a few things, grab your passport, and then we'll go.
30:28Okay.
30:45I think she really understood that for the next 10 or 15 minutes, her life hung in balance.
30:55Okay.
31:07I don't know.
31:38Linda, is that you okay?
31:40Yeah, just give me a second, please.
31:44Okay, but it's getting late.
31:56Linda, why is this door locked?
31:59Because, Matthew, I'm trying to use the bathroom, okay?
32:05Okay.
32:07Sorry.
32:09I have to go as fast as I can.
32:27There's no way out.
32:29Linda's only option is to return to her original plan.
32:33She must have gone into total survival mode, and she was looking for any excuse possible just to stay alive.
32:45At 8 a.m., after a 45-minute drive, the couple arrives at Linda's parents' house.
32:53Okay, so great.
32:55You get your passport, grab some things you need to travel, and then we'll head to the airport.
33:00Be on the beach in Jamaica by 3 o'clock.
33:02Okay, just let me go upstairs and phone his stuff.
33:06Wait, no, no, no, no, no, no.
33:08Can't let you do that.
33:09Linda, is that you?
33:12Yeah, Mom, it's me.
33:14Matthew did not want to confront Linda's mother.
33:17He wanted to walk in, get the passport, and leave.
33:23What are you doing here?
33:24You should be in class, no?
33:26Her mother, who was all of about 4'11", looked at this beautiful daughter of hers,
33:30who was supposed to be in class at the university,
33:34and saw that she had bags under her eyes and knew something was wrong.
33:40Matthew, what is this?
33:42What are you doing here?
33:43It's 8 in the morning.
33:45We're going on a trip, Mrs. Perez.
33:48Linda and I are going to Jamaica.
33:51Jamaica?
33:52What?
33:53What are you talking about?
33:58Linda, go get your passport.
34:00You need to talk to your mom for a second.
34:02Passport?
34:04You're not going anywhere, young lady.
34:07No one is getting anything.
34:08Mom, don't.
34:14Matthew, I think you should leave.
34:22Matthew, I asked you to leave.
34:24Now, please.
34:26Linda's mother whirled her little frame around, of course, not knowing where they had just come from.
34:32You keep your mouth shut.
34:35Matthew!
34:41You know, I should have blown your head up when I had the chance.
34:44Matthew!
34:45Please leave now.
34:51Linda's mother is probably one of the first people who ever stood up to Matthew.
34:56He really got up in his face.
34:58And, like many cowards, he crumbled in the face of such a strong personality.
35:05Oh, God!
35:08Oh, God!
35:11Oh, God!
35:12Oh, God!
35:13Oh, God!
35:13Oh, God!
35:14Once she told her mother what had transpired, it had to be just abject fear.
35:21The reason he was going to kill her in the first place is to cover up this crime.
35:26And now, he's got a field trade.
35:29So, what's to stop him from turning around, coming back with a gun, and killing them both?
35:41After narrowly escaping death at the hands of her sociopathic boyfriend, Matthew Heichelow...
35:46Please, don't kill me.
35:49...college student Linda Perez has miraculously made it back home to her mom.
35:54You know, I should have blown your head off when I had the chance.
35:57...still, the threat is far from over.
36:01The minute the door closed, he was on the phone to Linda.
36:05And he said, don't you say a word to your mother, or I'll kill her, your whole family, and you.
36:13Meanwhile, 35 miles away, after receiving calls from several of Dawn Heichelow's concerned coworkers,
36:19police arrive at the Heichelow residence.
36:22Dawn did not show up for work, which was very strange.
36:25So, we responded to the house to see what we could find out about the Heichelow.
36:30But to their horror, detectives discover they're too late.
36:34We found Mrs. Heichelow on the second floor, and Mr. Heichelow Richard downstairs.
36:46Shotgun shell.
36:48Yeah.
36:49Look what's on it.
36:50We found two shotgun shells.
36:53One of them was marked Mom, and the other one was marked Dad.
36:57Can't say it wasn't premeditated.
36:59The authorities had no question who their number one suspect was.
37:03It was Matthew Heichelow.
37:06Though police are convinced they know who the killer is, they still have no idea where Matthew Heichelow could be.
37:14That is, until they receive a call from Matthew's traumatized girlfriend, Linda.
37:19We have two officers outside your house.
37:22They're going to stay outside until we get him in custody.
37:27But, Linda, right now, we need your help.
37:31It's been hours since Matthew left Linda's house.
37:33And by now, police know he could be anywhere.
37:37Did he say where he was going?
37:39Where he's headed?
37:48I told him we should go away together to Jamaica.
37:54I didn't notice anything.
37:56Linda, who basically told them everything that had gone on between her and Matthew.
38:02So, the manhunt began for Matthew Heichelow.
38:06And not just here, but in Jamaica.
38:21room service.
38:22Let's go to champagne.
38:26You like champagne?
38:28I love champagne.
38:29Good.
38:44Matthew Heikla, you're under arrest for the murder of Don and Richard Heikla and for the kidnapping of Linda Perez.
38:50Come on, man.
38:52While he was in Jamaica, he rented a scooter and got into a minor traffic accident.
39:00And the constable recognized him as a guy that the FBI was looking for.
39:04And so he notified the FBI.
39:08He had been living there and nobody knew that anything had been wrong with him.
39:14He wasn't brooding, he was having a good time, he was smiling, going out at night.
39:19So conscience, Matthew Heikla, they don't belong in the same sentence.
39:27On February 15, 1991, Matthew Heikla is charged with capital murder.
39:34Eighteen months later, his case goes to trial.
39:39Matthew Stunned everybody with a defense called the adopted child syndrome.
39:45He said he hated them because he was always treated as an adopted son.
39:50But you look at all of these things and you really have to wonder, was he so self-centered that
39:56he could not see the love and the care and all of the nurturing that went into him over the
40:02years?
40:02The prosecution believed that because Matthew had gone out beforehand, purchased a gun, marked shotgun shells with mom and dad
40:14on it, that he had every intention of killing his mother and father.
40:20And doing it in the very style in which he did it.
40:25And the evidence to me proves that they were absolutely on point.
40:33Matthew Heikla is sentenced to two 30-year terms without the possibility of parole.
40:41After serving as a key witness in the trial, Linda Perez does all she can to separate herself from the
40:47nightmare she lived.
40:48Matthew's brother Josh struggles to do the same.
40:52Josh has never talked to anybody about this, and now I understand he's a missionary in Africa.
40:59And he's tried to get away from this world as much as he possibly can.
41:04But no matter how far he goes, he'll never be able to escape what happened to him and what happened
41:09to his mom and dad.
41:11It is a nightmare situation they became involved in toward the end with Matthew, there's no doubt about it.
41:17They tried and did the absolute best that they possibly could, and none of their efforts were.
41:26Here he is, this great-looking kid, and he's got this incredible family.
41:33I'm like, why are you so angry that you would murder two people that did nothing but love you and
41:45were nothing but good to you?
41:49To this day, and for the rest of my life, I'll never understand it.
