00:00I think children being born, I think, is certainly more important than marriage,
00:07more important than, I think, water and oxygen,
00:12and overall health means nothing compared to, you know, the NFL playoffs.
00:19This is a good laughable.
00:21There is no question.
00:23Number one.
00:23Best ever.
00:28There's nothing like the NFL playoffs.
00:31Playoffs, baby.
00:33We live for this.
00:34And there's nothing better than a big finish.
00:36And the money all over in one of the craziest games ever.
00:42When you think back to the greatest playoff games ever,
00:45you think to those moments when a game was decided.
00:49In this episode of Top Ten, we're counting down the best ever finishes in the NFL playoffs.
00:56Oh, my goodness.
00:58All right, guys.
00:59Last play in the game.
01:00But we're not including the Super Bowl.
01:03Oh, no.
01:04That's a different show.
01:06Exactly.
01:06Fun.
01:07Fun, fun, fun.
01:08We've got a lot of football to cover, so let's get started.
01:12Ah!
01:13The number 10 playoff finish of all time.
01:16He both stuns the Steelers.
01:19Tebow.
01:20Tebow in the playoffs, right?
01:21Love Tim Tebow.
01:23He's the aw shucks nice guy that everybody wants to root for.
01:26I mean, he's good.
01:27Why would you not love him?
01:28Anyone who can hold out from sex for that long with that many girls coming after him
01:34has to be a god amongst men.
01:38Like, remember when Tim Tebow was a thing?
01:44You know, we look back at Tebow mania and it's something like,
01:47did we really do that?
01:48It's like a pet rock.
01:49Oh, my God.
01:50The heck is going on?
01:51Tebow effect.
01:52Let's be honest.
01:53Tim Tebow was not exactly known for his passing prowess.
01:57I mean, the big problem with Tim Tebow as a quarterback is he wasn't very good at throwing
02:01a football, which is one of the real requirements.
02:04But when the Broncos started 1-4 in 2011, they desperately switched quarterbacks and went
02:10with Tim Tebow, fueled by Tebow mania.
02:14Let's go, Tebow!
02:16Denver finished with an 8-8 record.
02:18The Broncos have won six consecutive games.
02:22Tebow was terrible in the first quarter of every game, but managed to somehow finish all
02:26these games.
02:26The Broncos snuck into a playoff matchup with Pittsburgh and the number 10 playoff finish
02:32at all times.
02:35The shock obviously was the end.
02:38Headed into overtime.
02:40Tied at 23.
02:41I had to, like, look at one of the worst two minutes of my life, and that would be it.
02:47Denver's football first snap of overtime here.
02:49That moment, something happened.
02:51It was like everybody wanted Tebow to do so well.
02:54I think everybody ruled it to happen.
02:56Tim playfakes in the pocket.
02:58Sets, throws.
03:00And it's it bad.
03:00Damaris Thomas.
03:01When he caught it, I'm like, okay, it's going to be a 20-yard game, whatever it is.
03:04And then Thomas just keeps going.
03:06Out of the 45 midfield.
03:07Here we go.
03:0740, 35, foot race, 20, 15.
03:11Hit the stick.
03:12Denver is over.
03:14It's over in Denver.
03:16You've got to be kidding me.
03:17Everybody was so shocked.
03:19I'm still in shock just looking back on it.
03:21Stunning.
03:21Is this really happening?
03:22Has the world really changed?
03:24And I'm like, that really happened.
03:26He was open at the 40.
03:28Tebow hit him in stride.
03:30And there was a stiff arm by Thomas delivered at midfield that basically ended the game.
03:35Back in the day, I was out there on a bully pulpit saying, look, this is not sustainable.
03:39This is a mania.
03:41When I saw that pass, I was like, maybe I was wrong.
03:45Maybe I've been wrong all along.
03:49It was one of the greatest accidents in the history of football.
03:52And it happens to my team, the Steelers.
03:56I wanted to kill myself that he beat me on a slant pass that my grandmother could have thrown.
04:03The important thing to remember about that win, though, Pittsburgh was so banged up in that game that they were
04:08the equivalent of a 6-10 team.
04:09But that was the problem because it wasn't Tim Tebow.
04:13It was just the defense.
04:14It may not come as any surprise to you.
04:16I haven't revisited that game very often.
04:19It certainly wasn't one of my better games.
04:22It's not my favorite topic of conversation.
04:32He's been bared out by the amount of games he's played a quarterback since that time.
04:38Zero.
04:39Tebow started zero games at quarterback after that postseason.
04:43The pass against Pittsburgh remains the high-water mark for his NFL career.
04:49I'm happy it's on the list because it brings Steelers fans back to a bad moment.
04:54I've hated Tebow ever since.
04:56And he's not going to be the next president of the United States.
05:00Peyton Manning is.
05:03Still to come.
05:05The 2009 World Cup.
05:06The 2009 World Cup.
05:11Yeah, that was a hell of a game.
05:14An all-timer.
05:15That was the shootout with Kurt Warner.
05:16And, yeah, they kept going up and down and up and down.
05:19And he couldn't stop him and they couldn't stop him.
05:21Throws over the middle.
05:22It's popped by Doucette at the 10.
05:23Spins out of a tab.
05:24You're in the 5.
05:25You know, Aaron Rodgers, he and Warner just did an awesome duel.
05:29And Doucette takes it out for the touchdown.
05:31That was pretty much as good as it gets.
05:3796 points were scored between the two teams,
05:40making it the highest scoring game in playoff history.
05:44Tightropping to the sideline, Jordan.
05:462009 Classic.
05:49Closed out in throw fashion.
05:54Yeah, sir.
05:55We went to overtime.
05:57And the last team with the ball was Green Bay.
06:00Come on, brother.
06:01Third and five at the 25-yard line of Green Bay.
06:03A minute gone by in overtime.
06:06So, this is great.
06:07Well, it wasn't great.
06:09It was kind of strange because defense had nothing to do with that game whatsoever
06:12until the final outcome.
06:14Here we go.
06:15Come on, man.
06:18Rodgers dropping back.
06:20In trouble.
06:20Rodgers hits.
06:21Ball came out.
06:22Burgers hit it.
06:23Amazing.
06:23He's going to score.
06:24Oh!
06:25And you're like, no way this is going to happen.
06:28Come on, man.
06:29And the game is over.
06:31Ball triggered loose.
06:33What a way for it to end.
06:44Up into the air.
06:45It gets intercepted and returned.
06:47And it's such a heartbreak for the Packers after coming back to bring it to overtime.
06:51And then they lose it there.
06:52Yes, that's...
06:53It wasn't...
06:54It was a...
06:55F***.
06:56Lovingly, Mike McCarthy falls to his knees game.
06:59Knees game.
07:00He's like...
07:03McCarthy, they run back to the touchdown game over, and he literally falls to his knees.
07:07Mike McCarthy kind of slumping to the ground.
07:10That just summed up that entire game.
07:12To me, this is one of the best shots in NFL films history.
07:15The idea that everything put into this endeavor of getting...
07:20Into the playoffs.
07:21It's overtime.
07:23You're out the door.
07:24It was perfectly captured watching McCarthy just...
07:26F***.
07:27Pass Luke.
07:31Sudden defeat.
07:34Let the Murray playoff finish it all time.
07:37Manny beats Brady.
07:3906 AFC Championship.
07:42Setting was the most dramatic playoff game.
07:50That the Patriots have ever been engaged in.
07:52We really understate how Cucu...
07:55...are than that quarterback.
07:57By the 2006 playoffs, the Patriots...
08:01Manning-Tom Brady rivalry was at full tilt, but Brady had won six of the first eight meetings, including both
08:08postseason matchups.
08:09Be sick and tired of being sick and tired.
08:11That's right.
08:12That's right.
08:12Let's do it today.
08:13It's the typical, well, the Colts, and is Manning going to ever beat Brady and the Patriots?
08:23Manning throws a pick six to Asante Sandler, down 18.
08:26You're like, okay, good night.
08:27That's that.
08:28Things are not going the Colts way early.
08:3021-3, you got Tom Brady.
08:33Even on the road, you consider the record, you consider the history between the two teams.
08:36If you're a Patriots fan, you feel pretty good about booking your flight to Super Bowl 41.
08:42Here we go!
08:44How can you possibly think at that point that they're going to win that game?
08:47You just can't.
08:48The Colts just aren't here.
08:51It's halftime, and I am at my computer writing the article, and I remember thinking, same old story.
08:56Brady and Belichick own Manning.
08:58What's new?
08:58There's 30 minutes of football to be played.
09:00A couple of touchdowns, and you can get right back in this game.
09:03And then crazy things happen.
09:06Amazing.
09:11In the second half, the Colts close the gap with the help of two
09:19bizarre touchdowns.
09:20He will fake the ball to a die.
09:22Looks for
09:26Dan Cleko, he's got it!
09:28Touchdown, Dan Cleko!
09:30Hall of Famer, Joe Cleko.
09:32And then...
09:47Touchdown!
09:48They say the Colts got it!
09:50Just Saturday!
09:50Saturday!
09:51Saturday!
09:51Saturday!
09:52Saturday!
09:52With 2-17 left, the Colts trail by three.
09:56Manning had 80 yards to transform his legacy.
09:59Peyton Manning, who at the time was known as this all-time loser, playing like the all-time winner.
10:05Holy mackerel, what a throw by Peyton Manning!
10:07The narrative all season for this team was, they can't run the ball, they can't run the
10:11ball, it's all about Peyton, and what do they do?
10:15Give it to Joseph, right up the middle, he ran right up the middle, it scores for the
10:20minute back!
10:21And the Colts take the lead for the first time in the game.
10:24But, I remember right then, I was looking at the clock, I said, they still got two timeouts,
10:29and they got over a minute to go, and they got Tom Brady, a quarterback.
10:33When you consider the history, I can understand why Peyton Manning was sitting on the sidelines
10:37going, please let this be our year, let this be our year.
10:40It was out of his hands.
10:51Marvin Jackson, he slides down like he's on the musical.
10:55It wasn't just Peyton getting the monkey off his back, I think he was getting the...
11:03...the two-ton gorilla off his back.
11:05Didn't play that great to start the game.
11:07Up next, which jam-packed play?
11:10I'm the 2015 Overtime Trills.
11:14Just that series of plays to get to overtime alone was one of the most insane things I
11:20have ever seen in any game.
11:22With 55 seconds for Manning, Arizona had a seven-point lead.
11:27Green Bay had the ball and Aaron Rodgers, but faced the fourth down and 20 from their own
11:32four-yard line.
11:34Rodgers under pressure medium, he scrambles to his left.
11:37He's running to his left, not his right, to his left, and throws a dime to Jeff Janis.
11:43On the run, 60 yards down the field on fourth and 20.
11:46Oh my goodness!
11:4960-yard pass play to Jeff Janis.
11:51Who the heck is Jeff Janis?
11:54He was never here for horses.
11:57We got one more snap.
11:59They know this is it.
12:00Game on the line.
12:01Five seconds remaining.
12:0441-yard line of Arizona.
12:06Season on the line.
12:08So they come after him.
12:09They force him again to his left.
12:11He's falling away.
12:13And he tosses up the huge Hail Mary.
12:23And when Jeff Janis caught the ball, I think everybody was completely shocked.
12:29An Aaron Rodgers miracle to Jeff Janis.
12:33Did the Packers have anybody else playing in the game besides Jeff Janis?
12:37We are going to overtime in miracle fashion.
12:43It was followed up by a weird coin toss.
12:46Tails is a call.
12:50The coin didn't flip, right?
12:52Didn't flip.
12:52It didn't flip.
12:53Didn't flip.
12:54And you heard what the guy said.
12:55Didn't flip.
12:56And it didn't flip.
12:56Because you need a weird coin toss to make these games go to that next level.
13:00Come on, y'all.
13:01Tails is a call.
13:05What are the chances of that?
13:07This is the twilight zone.
13:10I can't believe that this game is filled with so many different storylines.
13:17After a mulligan coin flip, our number seven playoff finish shifted into overdrive on the first play of overtime.
13:25Play action pass.
13:26Ballmer setting up.
13:27He's in trouble.
13:28He's hit.
13:28Gets out of there.
13:29Rolls right.
13:30Throws back to the left.
13:31Whenever you see a QB roll in there and then throw it all the way across the field,
13:35you know it's either going to be a brilliant offensive play or a complete disaster.
13:39Fits is wide open.
13:40Caught at the 35.
13:41Here comes Larry Fitzgerald to make a play to demonstrate once again what a great player he was.
13:46Turns up field at the 45.
13:48There was no way he was going to let the Cardinals lose.
13:5135.
13:52530.
13:5325-20.
13:54Fits to the near side.
13:5510.
13:55To the 5.
13:56And tackle there.
13:57The two plays that you run on Thanksgiving when it's Turkey Bowl is everybody go long and get open
14:03and throw it to the fast kick.
14:05And you had both of these back to back.
14:07One right after the other.
14:09And then Cardinals win with a touchdown.
14:12Let's not forget, now the Packers have them in first and goal and they still have a chance
14:16to stop them.
14:17But Bruce Arians calls a play that he had not called all year.
14:22And they go with the shovel pass.
14:26Snap to Palmer.
14:27Rolls out.
14:28And it's a pitch to Fitz.
14:29Right ahead.
14:30Into the end zone.
14:30The shovel pass for the touchdown.
14:32And the win.
14:32That was a brilliant call.
14:34The Cardinals advance to the NFC Championship game on a shovel pass of all things in one
14:41of the craziest games ever.
14:43And Fitz does it again to the playoffs.
14:46Of course they're going to give it to Larry Fitzgerald because this was his game.
14:50Larry.
14:50Larry.
14:51Larry.
14:52Larry.
14:53Larry.
14:53It's simply an astounding game.
14:55An instant classic.
14:56We knew at the moment that we saw it.
14:58The number six playoff hit of all time.
15:02Sherman's champ.
15:04All anybody remembers from that game is Richard Sherman completely melting down and losing
15:08his mind.
15:09That was the moment that Richard Sherman stopped Michael Crabtree and then turned into a WWE
15:14superstar right on the spot.
15:16Take me through it.
15:17Well, I'm the best coordinator of the game.
15:19When you try me with a sorry receiver like Crabtree, that's the result you're going to get.
15:23It was like he channeled Batman and Hulk Hogan and the Ultimate Warrior all in this one incredible
15:28moment.
15:29Don't you ever talk about me.
15:31Everybody was like, what is he talking about?
15:33What happened?
15:34Who was talking about you?
15:36Crabtree, don't you hold it in your mouth about the best?
15:38The whole Crabtree thing afterwards was what it was.
15:41He kind of stuttered after she said, who was talking?
15:44Crabtree, Crabtree was.
15:45Sure, sure he was.
15:47I thought so much more to that.
15:49That is the very best Seahawks game I've seen.
15:52It was just great stuff.
15:55Great theater.
16:02For most of the first three quarters.
16:05But Seattle took a six point lead with three and a half minutes remaining.
16:11Then San Fran had the ball and a chance to win.
16:16And the touchdown drive.
16:18Then the 49ers marched down the field.
16:21Seattle rushes four.
16:22Kaepernick throws middle.
16:23Caught by Vernon Davis.
16:24He's inside the 20.
16:26And then it came down to one play challenging Richard Sherman.
16:30They're about to try me.
16:31Hey.
16:32They're about to try me.
16:32I'm a cap lost.
16:33Okay.
16:34Brooks.
16:35Five.
16:35Here's Nearside going for the end zone.
16:37Oh!
16:39He's been talking to the end zone!
16:41And that tip.
16:43They stayed away from Richard Sherman all day long.
16:46They went over to it at the long possible time that Richard Sherman made him pay.
16:52I collapsed like a sack of potatoes onto the floor.
16:56I fell to my knees and wept with joy.
16:59And the man who is the NFL's best quarter is going to send Seattle to the Super Bowl.
17:05Come on, Gary!
17:06Come on, Gary!
17:07It was just an incredible performance.
17:09An incredible ending.
17:11It was what makes star players.
17:14Oh!
17:14Sorry me!
17:15I'm the best!
17:19It altered the course of the 49ers, I think, franchise for a long time.
17:23That was it.
17:24That killed the Niners being good.
17:27That was the last time we were good.
17:28That was the Seahawks team that went on to destroy the Broncos in Super Bowl.
17:3348, but for me, that game was the real Super Bowl.
17:39Up next, two of the most significant playoff finishes of all time.
17:44I think it's the single greatest play in NFL history.
17:49The Immaculate Resort.
17:51What do you mean?
17:51The 5!
17:535!
17:53It might be the greatest play in NFL history.
17:55I think it's the single greatest play in NFL history.
17:58It's pretty hard to put it at 5, no?
18:00We still have no idea what happened there.
18:02And the way that thing ended, that's got to be number one.
18:09In the 1972 AFC Divisional Playoffs,
18:12one play was all it took to start a dynasty.
18:16It's either the greatest play in the history of football,
18:19or it's the crime of the century if you're a Raider fan.
18:23Pittsburgh's ball to middle, 40-yard line, 22 seconds left to play.
18:27Let's put it in the air.
18:30Everything had to happen in a certain sequence in a certain way
18:33to make the Immaculate Reception immaculate, and it did.
18:37Back goes Blackshaw.
18:39He's looking.
18:40He's a bubble back there.
18:41He rolls out the right.
18:44He's looking.
18:45He's close deep, and it is out of the way.
18:48This ball floats up into the air,
18:49and it lands in another person's chest,
18:52and all of history changes.
18:54It's right out of the air.
18:55The ball is pulled in.
18:57I'll bring my hair.
18:59Heading up Frank goes a giant army,
19:01and galloping off into the sunset.
19:04This is really a play that drops in the heavens.
19:07I mean, this is just, there's no logical way of explaining it.
19:09It's just one of those plays that happen.
19:11One of the ones you'll never forget.
19:16Tell a Steelers fan that it touched the ground.
19:19Just do it.
19:21It's fun.
19:22Do we know if he caught it or not?
19:24Did he catch it?
19:24Did it hit the ground?
19:25Did he really catch it?
19:26Did the tip of the ball hit the ground?
19:28Are we sure the macroeception really happened?
19:32Did he catch that?
19:33Are we sure?
19:34To me, part of the beauty and wonder of that play
19:36is that you don't see it the first time.
19:40The ball comes into the shot and then goes out of the shot.
19:43You kind of write your own story to it.
19:45It's a play that you can view through many different prisms.
19:48Until you watch the other angles,
19:49then it kind of comes together.
19:51From out of nowhere, Frank O'Hara,
19:53riding a white stallion.
19:55This is one of the most mysterious things that happened.
19:58Tell Dave Damoshek that the football touched the ground
20:01and watch him protect that play as if it were his child.
20:04That's up for you to decide.
20:06What do you know if it touched the ground?
20:08You weren't out there.
20:09I wasn't out there.
20:10The controversy is always good.
20:12It adds to the element of the whole thrilling aspect of it.
20:17Do we really know?
20:18We don't know, do we?
20:20Are you sure you want to know the truth?
20:22I don't want to be Nicholson to your cruise, fella.
20:24The ball definitely touched the ground
20:26and all of Steelers fans' memories are alive.
20:34All the things that turn on that bounce of the ball,
20:37the franchise that could never win, never get over the hump,
20:40SOS, same old Steelers.
20:41We think of it as a great play.
20:43We think of it as a signature moment in NFL history.
20:46It may have changed their whole franchise direction.
20:49The ball bounces one way, something weird happens,
20:51and an entire history changes.
20:53They had a handful of plays like this,
20:55in addition to all of their excellence,
20:57that put them in a position to be that team
20:58that won four Super Bowls.
21:03So how can it be only five?
21:09It's probably, eh, that's about right, I guess.
21:12What?
21:14What?
21:15It was just like one of the greatest moments in NFL history.
21:18The catch not being number one is crazy talk.
21:22Crazy talk.
21:26In the 1981 NFC Championship,
21:29something legendary began in San Francisco.
21:32I mean, you couldn't ask for a better narrative.
21:35It's out of fiction.
21:37The empirical dynasty of America's team
21:40arrives to take on this young upstart.
21:44It truly was Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker.
21:47You know, this was the evil empire against the force,
21:52the greatest quarterback of all time,
21:54in his signature moment,
21:55on an incredibly dramatic play.
22:01And they're leading 27-21.
22:03Don Landry is six yards away from his sixth Super Bowl.
22:08The upstart 49ers,
22:10they're six yards away from Pontiac.
22:14Montana looking, looking.
22:16Rolling right, rolling right, rolling right.
22:19And just the drag and the weight
22:21and the holding on to the ball
22:22all the way to the last second.
22:24Throwing in the end zone.
22:28And it was so, Joe, Montana.
22:31I don't know how Montana could have possibly seen
22:33where he was throwing the ball.
22:34The little pump fake to get Ed Tuttle Jones
22:37just to jump a little bit.
22:39Throwing off the back leg.
22:41Throwing it into the deepest part of the end zone.
22:44Such a sweet touch pass.
22:47There's been millions of passes,
22:49but that's the one they keep showing.
22:54And the game's not even over at that point.
22:58What people forget about the catch all the time
23:01is the Cowboys almost won that game.
23:05Down the middle.
23:06Caught by Pearson.
23:08And right at it by the shirt.
23:10And it's gone.
23:11Drew Pearson, he catches an end
23:14about 30 yards downfield.
23:16And he gets tackled by a fingernail.
23:19And it's a horse collar.
23:20Today it would be 15 yards.
23:21It would have put the Cowboys in field goal range.
23:23And then Danny White fumbles on the next play.
23:25The tuck rule, will it come into play, too,
23:27if that had been in place?
23:29They got it.
23:30Long-rins pillars.
23:31They fumble the ball.
23:34Danny White doesn't fumble.
23:35There's a very good chance.
23:36They get a field goal there at the end.
23:39That's how close the catch was
23:40to being a footnote in history.
23:43But that was the start of the whole dynasty.
23:45It started the sort of 49ers' greatness.
23:48The Dallas Cowboy dynasty goes into a decade of winter.
23:52The 49er dynasty is born
23:54and goes for the next 15, 16 years.
23:57They'll show it forever.
23:58I mean, we're still watching it all these years later.
24:02The massive historical repercussions of the catch.
24:05I demand it be place number one.
24:08Up next, another controversial playoff.
24:22That will never be replicated again.
24:24Because it was just so unexpected.
24:26I mean, who would have thought of that?
24:28The Music City Miracle is a miracle.
24:31That game was only a miracle
24:32if you were a Titans fan.
24:34Because all the Billings fans I know call it
24:36It was a damn forward pass!
24:41In the 1999 Wild Card Playoffs,
24:45Buffalo took a one-point lead over Tennessee
24:47late in the fourth quarter,
24:49setting the stage for our number three
24:52playoff finish of all time.
24:54They kicked a field goal on third down
24:55with 20 seconds left.
24:57The game is on the line.
24:59Moore waiting for the snap.
25:01The put-down.
25:02The kick on the way.
25:03Long enough.
25:04And it is!
25:08They're feeling, hey, we just won this game.
25:10We're going to go home.
25:11We're on to the next round.
25:12Yes!
25:13Yes!
25:14Yes!
25:15Yes!
25:15Yes!
25:15This is our house!
25:16Our house, baby!
25:17You got to win on the road, baby!
25:20You got to win on the road!
25:22Kicking the field goal on third down
25:23was a big mistake.
25:26Do the Titans have a miracle left in them?
25:29If they do, they need it now.
25:30One of the greatest play calls of all time.
25:33We installed it in training camp
25:35and we referred to it as home run throwback.
25:38That's a draw on-
25:41Up in the ground play.
25:43That is schoolyard fun.
25:46Brink Wycheck throws it back the other way
25:49to Kevin Dyson.
25:50The moment that Wycheck released the pass,
25:53it was like, oh boy.
25:55He throws it across the field to Dyson.
25:57He's got something.
25:58Oh, he's got to go.
25:59This is crazy.
26:00This is nuts.
26:01Oh, oh, oh.
26:02Oh my God!
26:03Oh my God!
26:03Oh my God!
26:04He's got something.
26:05He's got it.
26:06He's got it!
26:0820, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10.
26:12Touchdown, Christ!
26:13And I thought the whole time,
26:15yeah, it was exciting, it was fun,
26:17but there's going to be a flag.
26:18There are no flags on the field!
26:23Tennessee has pulled a miracle!
26:25There are no flags on the field, brother.
26:29He said that's when he stopped believing in Jesus.
26:32You thought you had it.
26:33You thought you were going on.
26:35You thought you maybe had a Super Bowl shot.
26:37And then this freak play happens.
26:40And there's not even a chance to do anything about it.
26:42It's over.
26:4316 years.
26:44That was Buffalo's last playoff moment.
26:46The Music City Miracle.
26:48Look at it this way, Buffalo.
26:48You would have lost the Super Bowl anyway.
26:51They wouldn't even have made it to the Super Bowl.
26:53They would have had to play the Colts
26:56and the Dolphs.
27:01Wait a minute.
27:02Was that legal or not?
27:03People still argue.
27:05They go down the line.
27:06They go a little bit behind the line.
27:07They go forward.
27:08I don't know.
27:09Forward.
27:10I still to this day, I'm not sure what forward has.
27:12I don't know.
27:13It's not my place.
27:14How not fun are you
27:15if your level wasn't a lateral?
27:17That's the most fun play.
27:19I can remember for weeks afterwards
27:21you guys editing it
27:23using early 3D rendering software
27:25which probably cost a million dollars
27:27and you can now do for 75 cents
27:28showing that no, it was indeed a backwards pass.
27:32But again, another one of those plays
27:33with this controversy
27:34and it adds to the whole mystique of the play.
27:37And it's great.
27:51The Broncos are 98 yards away from where they need to go.
27:58For me, the drive could easily be number one.
28:02Here's the key thing that has to be recognized.
28:04It was a drive.
28:06It wasn't just one play.
28:08A 15-play, 98-yard drive
28:11in five minutes and two seconds.
28:13The look.
28:14The throw.
28:15Touchdown!
28:16That drive made John Elway.
28:2098-and-a-half-yard drive.
28:24I was in Cleveland that day.
28:26It was 31 degrees.
28:27It was flurries.
28:28It was a sea of dog pound people.
28:31It's time for the crowd to take over.
28:33The wall of noise is just...
28:38Frashing down on you.
28:39It was just amazing.
28:39We are going to win!
28:42And down that dog pound,
28:43I mean, you just feel it.
28:44It was palpable.
28:45With just over five minutes left
28:48in our number two game,
28:50Cleveland claimed a seven-point lead.
28:52Touchdown, Brown!
28:54Brian Brown!
28:55That's not a problem!
28:56Thank you, thank you!
28:57Oh, yeah!
28:58Super Bowl!
28:59They thought they had won.
29:00I mean, there was no reason to think that they hadn't won.
29:02There was celebrating going on in the stands,
29:04open celebration.
29:05That was their moment.
29:07Choose the energy now.
29:09Choose the energy.
29:10Well, the fat lady hasn't sung yet,
29:13but you can believe she's in the wings warming up the pipes.
29:16And Elway just...
29:17The thing I remember about him was he was just so cool.
29:21He just felt...
29:22He seemed like he's in control of the situation.
29:25And he completes a pass.
29:27Then he completes another pass.
29:30And you can almost feel the people say,
29:33this is getting away from us.
29:36You know what I remember from the drive?
29:39Third and 18.
29:41A trip to Pasadena.
29:43Good boil down to this place.
29:44Remember, he got sacked.
29:46Elway under pressure, and down he goes!
29:49The crowd was going nuts.
29:50They thought they were going to the Super Bowl.
29:52They thought it was done, finally there.
29:53The entire season now hangs in the balance.
29:56In the shotgun.
29:57And Elway's pass is caught.
30:00First down at the 27.
30:02The Browns were known for man coverage with Minifield and Hanford Dixon.
30:07And they went to a zone on that defense, and he fired a shot right in the middle of the
30:10floor.
30:11Bad move.
30:12Come on, Johnny!
30:15He went six of nine for 78 yards.
30:19And he ran twice for 20 yards.
30:2278 plus 20 is the 98.
30:26The Browns had no answers.
30:2842 seconds to go.
30:29Broncos at the Cleveland 5.
30:31They slammed the Elway.
30:33The look.
30:34The throw.
30:35Touchdown!
30:36He hits the pass.
30:38There wasn't any booing.
30:40There was just a gasp.
30:4298 and a half yard drive.
30:45It was like the city had had its heart ripped down.
30:50What I think a lot of people for
30:55is that it did not win.
30:59They won on a field.
31:00I'm going to rest on the foot of Carlos.
31:04And what happened in overtime was
31:06to win it in overtime.
31:08Ball is down.
31:09Carlos' kick is on the way.
31:12Rich Carlos missed the field goal.
31:16It went over the upright.
31:18I was apoplectic.
31:20Of course, history remembers a different ending.
31:24Carlos' kick.
31:25It is good!
31:27The Denver Broncos have come from behind
31:30to win it in overtime.
31:31The Broncos are going to the Super Bowl
31:33because they earned the trip.
31:36I remember after the game was over
31:38just watching those people file out of the stadium.
31:40It was heartbreaking for them.
31:43Tearing the heart out of Cleveland.
31:46But it was really the statement of what a great player Elway was.
31:53Coming up...
31:54This game was so insane.
31:56It was...
31:57And now, the number one playoff finish of all time.
32:01The Emerald City Miracles.
32:03I'm not sure it really belongs at number one.
32:07I'll tell you what is number one in my heart.
32:10Now, while the last seven minutes of the game at overtime
32:13were complete bedlam...
32:14Game over, baby!
32:15Touchdown!
32:16The game is over!
32:17I can't...
32:17I can't be the number one game.
32:19It can't be.
32:20It can't be.
32:23Walk us through the traumatic moments of that one.
32:26You guys have beer here or anything?
32:28Um...
32:28I, uh...
32:30I aged a couple years that day.
32:31What you start with is Wilson having played so poorly.
32:35They're in Seattle.
32:36They have home field advantage.
32:38Intercepted the end zone again!
32:40And Russell Wilson cannot play for his life.
32:44Let's go, Russ!
32:45Come on now!
32:45Russell Wilson never makes mistakes ever.
32:47Throws four picks and you're like, what's happening here?
32:50Everybody's sitting there going,
32:51okay, the shine and the glimmer has finally come off of Russell Wilson.
32:54Hey, we can still win this game.
32:55Stay in it, man.
32:56Stay in it.
32:57We can go win this game.
32:57Let's go!
33:01When Russell Wilson threw an interception
33:04with about five and a half minutes left,
33:07the win expectancy for the Packers was at about 98.5%.
33:11The odds that they would lose that game were so minute.
33:15Yes!
33:16Yes!
33:17In the press box, I saw people booking flights to Arizona.
33:21I was on my computer making reservations for the Super Bowl.
33:23Yeah.
33:24And what happens after that?
33:26Everything falls apart.
33:29Our number one playoff finish began in earnest
33:32with just over two minutes remaining.
33:34Seattle trailed 19-7 when Russell Wilson scored closing the gap to five.
33:40And here come the Seahawks.
33:42And then everybody remembers the onside kick and poor Brandon Bostic.
33:47There it is.
33:48Bounces high.
33:50Seattle has a chance.
33:51It's bouncing around.
33:52The Seahawks got it!
33:55Brandon Bostic, in the moment, goes for the ball
33:57when he was supposed to block on that onside kick.
34:00Jordy Nelson's standing there waiting to catch the football.
34:03And this guy decides he's going to do that.
34:05It's important for everybody to do their job.
34:07And, unfortunately, that wasn't the case.
34:09You get the football there.
34:13And we're having a different press conference.
34:19Go on!
34:19Seattle cashed in the onside kick for six points
34:22but needed a two-point conversion to give them a field goal lead.
34:26Are you kidding me?
34:28A collapse here in the final three minutes of this game.
34:33Half a two!
34:33Half a two!
34:34Trying to make this a three-point difference.
34:37That two-point conversion got blown up.
34:39That's it!
34:39And they basically ended up throwing a Hail Mary on a two-point conversion.
34:43Man in his face.
34:44Still going to throw it up at the back of the end zone.
34:47He looks for help.
34:48There's a blue belt that he makes a guess.
34:51Yes!
34:53The smarts to do that.
34:55Woo!
34:56To have the mind to know,
34:58Hey, nothing bad can happen here.
34:59So, what the hell?
35:00I'll just throw it up and give him a chance.
35:02That two-point conversion was enormous.
35:04Oh, my word!
35:09On the ensuing draw...
35:13...quare.
35:14Instead, it sent the game into overtime.
35:17The Packers have tied the game.
35:20I'm going to get it done.
35:20I'm going to get it done.
35:21The effect of Russell Wilson and his weird belief in himself and the team
35:27was all that it took once they got to overtime.
35:30Do it!
35:30Russell takes the snap.
35:32He drops back.
35:32He's going to throw down the middle.
35:36That's one!
35:37Game on!
35:38Game on!
35:38Game on!
35:39Game on!
35:40Game on!
35:41Game on!
35:41Game on!
35:41Game on!
35:42Game on!
35:44Game on!
35:46Game on!
35:46Game on!
35:47What a devastating loss for the Green Bay Packers who led this game most of the way.
35:52If you really want to talk about all-time choke jobs in playoff history, that's one of them.
35:57This one's going to hurt for a while because of the close proximity to that feeling when
36:02the clock hits zero in your head.
36:04And we gave it away.
36:07No matter what happens in my future, it's always going to be, wow, I can't believe we lost
36:12to Seattle that night.
36:13And Seattle Seahawks are going to the Super Bowl.
36:16They are going nuts!
36:18That's that's really!
36:20Woo!
36:20Woo!
36:21Woo!
36:22Woo!
36:23Woo!
36:24Woo!
36:24The Seahawks are going back to the Super Bowl!
36:28To go to the Super Bowl in overtime on a 35-yard could not throw it any better.
36:35Tight coverage encouraged boom, boom, stadium erupt.
36:38I mean, that's the sickest scene in the world.
36:44I guess, come to think of it, that was pretty good.
36:49I guess it was pretty good.
36:51Talked yourself right into that.
36:52I talked myself into it.
36:53I was like, ah, that's not everyone.
36:54I was like, oh, you know what?
36:56That is pretty great.
36:58All good things come to an end, like this episode of Top Ten.
37:03It is over!
37:04That's more!
37:06But don't worry.
37:08It's okay!
37:09It's okay!
37:10The NFL playoffs are always on the horizon.
37:13Yes!
37:15And they're guaranteed to deliver memorable finishes.
37:20No!
37:21No!
37:23No!
37:24No!
37:25No!
37:26Incredible.
