00:00The Artemis II mission, the second moon landing space flight in over 50 years,
00:04enters the third day of journey, now closer to the moon than to Earth.
00:08A crew is being transported on the Orion spacecraft on a journey expected to cover
00:14more than 400,000 kilometers from Earth to lunar orbit.
00:17The objective of the expedition is to collect information,
00:21geological samples from the moon, and photographic documentation for future expeditions.
00:26A word into NASA's statements, Artemis II aims to consolidate technological preparations
00:30and lay the groundwork for a permanent astronaut's presence on the moon.
00:42Gosh, in our first day in space, we saw some extraordinary things.
00:46The Earth up close, and then by the time we had a bit of a nap and got up,
00:50the Earth was just so far away again.
00:52And then to come in for that transmitter injection, we came all the way back to Earth again.
00:58We were out there at 60,000 kilometers.
01:00We came back to within 200 kilometers of the planet.
01:04And it just felt like we were falling out of the sky, back to Earth.
01:08And I said to Reid, it feels like we're going to hit it.
01:12It's amazing that we're actually going to go around and miss this thing.
01:14It was just so close.
01:16And so to take all of that in was really phenomenal.
01:20Going from 38,000 miles above the Earth yesterday down to 100 miles above the Earth.
01:24And then Christina and Jeremy did our translunar injection just 100 miles off the surface of the planet.
01:29We were screaming right above the clouds.
01:31And now here we are, well over 100,000 miles away from Earth and closer to the moon than we
01:35are to the Earth right now.
