00:01It's no secret the Mets offense is struggling right now.
00:04Just 14 runs in their last six games and with so many new faces this year
00:09you wonder how easy it can be for this group to avoid really pressing.
00:14As far as the Giants are concerned they came in the last night last in the major leads in run
00:18score
00:19but they were very aggressive in their approach against David Peterson
00:23epitomized by their rookie catcher Daniel Suse.
00:26Francisco Lindor will lead off against Tyler Malley whom the Mets have not faced since 2019
00:32when he was in his third year with the Reds.
00:34It's only his third career start against New York.
00:36Lindor takes one the other way for a two strike hit.
00:40So Lindor snaps that over 12 days aboard to start the night.
00:44So a lead off single for Lindor and here's Soto who's hit in all seven games this year.
00:49Soto finds the hole on the right side.
00:51Back to back hits for Lindor and Soto to start the night.
00:54So Soto's now hit in all eight games this year in the Mets of the table set in the first
00:59inning.
01:00So now Bo Bichette who gave the Mets the early lead last night with a run scoring double
01:05probably swung the bat better last night than he has in any game this year.
01:08He was robbed of a home run by Harrison Bader.
01:11He lined into a double play his last time up.
01:13And now he gets an RBI opportunity in the first inning tonight.
01:17And he lives one in the right center field.
01:19That's down for a base hit.
01:21Lindor turns third.
01:22He'll score easily.
01:23Soto goes to third.
01:24Three straight hits for the Mets.
01:26Bichette drives in a run and it's 1-0 New York.
01:29That's something great to see right there.
01:30As you said Bo Bichette's been showing signs of getting back to hit himself.
01:35Which we all thought would happen when he got on the road right there.
01:37He stays through the baseball.
01:39Very inside out hitter anyway.
01:41Mets have been one for 32 with runners in scoring position over the last four games.
01:47Before that hit by Bichette.
01:48Now Luis Robert.
01:49And Robert takes ball four.
01:51So Robert continues to be discerning and the Giants are going to challenge that call as well.
01:56And that one missed.
01:58So Robert who was called out on the challenge on a 3-2 pitch last night.
02:03This time the Giants fail on the challenge and the Mets of the base is loaded with nobody out.
02:08That's granted back to the mat.
02:10Malley comes home for one.
02:11Daly on the first for the 1-2-3 double play.
02:15Exactly what Malley needed.
02:17He gets the comebacker to get two outs.
02:20And in a spot where they were willing to give up a run to get the double play.
02:25They give the double play without giving up a run.
02:28And Mark takes a strike and he's going to challenge that call.
02:31It appeared to be outside.
02:33Charlie Ramos the home plate umpire.
02:35He's already been challenged three times in this first inning.
02:37He's one for two.
02:39And the end doesn't prove and correct it is ball four.
02:42So the Mets again have the bases loaded.
02:44The second walk given up by Malley.
02:46Semien snapped an 0 for 20 stretch with an infield hit last night.
02:49He has two hit three hits this year.
02:51Two infield singles and a ball lost in the sun.
02:54So Semien is yet to get on track.
02:57Hit hard towards short.
02:58Pass to Thomas in the left field.
03:00A base hit.
03:01Bichette is here.
03:01They're going to hold up Robert as the throw comes in from left.
03:04RBI single.
03:06Marcus Semien.
03:07What a monkey off his back to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.
03:11Talk about a guy that is desperate for a hit.
03:15Just 3 for 23 is the Mets.
03:17The Mets have a 2-0 lead.
03:19That's the good news.
03:20The bad news is that Juan Soto has come out of this game.
03:23Something happening to Juan Soto.
03:26So here's the video of Soto going first to third at the top of the inning.
03:31See, grimaces a little there.
03:33He's definitely grimacing.
03:34Stayed in there.
03:35It was forced out at the plate.
03:36Definitely looked a little bit of a grimace.
03:38Juan Soto left the game due to right calf tightness.
03:42Certainly you're going to be safe with him right now.
03:44And Bo Bichette leads off for the Mets.
03:46Bichette leads off and he bangs his second hit of the night.
03:48So Bichette's seen two pitches from Tyler Malley.
03:51He singled the right center to drive it a run in the first.
03:54And now he bangs one in the center.
03:55Home third inning.
03:57Harrison Bader leads off for the Giants against Nolan McLean.
04:00He's retired the first six tonight.
04:02And Bader hits one toward the holds.
04:04Cut off nicely by Bichette.
04:05And he gets the throw right on target.
04:08Wasn't elegant by Bull but he made it work.
04:10And that's the first down.
04:12We got a broken bat from Bailey and an easy 4-3 put out for the second out of the
04:16inning.
04:16And it counts no balls and two strikes on Encarnacion.
04:20As he strikes out to our Encarnacion.
04:22And Nolan McLean has gone perfectly through the first three innings.
04:26Fourth inning.
04:26Mets up 2-0.
04:27They got both their runs in the first inning against Tyler Malley.
04:30And that's line over short a base hit for Vientos.
04:33So Mark just keeps on hitting.
04:35Didn't get opportunities to start the year.
04:37But he has forced Carlos Mendoza to keep him in the lineup.
04:42In time with a lot of the other bats are cold.
04:45Vientos has gotten off to a nice start.
04:47Now Semien is a guy who over the course of his career has had trouble getting off to fast starts.
04:53And the question is at age 35 whether he has the bat speed to be the kind of hitter he
04:58was when he was hitting 45 home runs in the season.
05:00It's this one out to center field.
05:02Hit well.
05:03Bader back on the warning track at the wall.
05:05It's out of here.
05:07Marcus Semien with his first home run as a New York Meta two run shot.
05:12And it's 4-0 New York.
05:14Well and right on cue Gary.
05:16He said he doesn't have that 45 home run power.
05:20And he goes straight away here at a ballpark that's not easy to go straight away.
05:24He hit that one on a line.
05:25Now you did not give up many home runs last year.
05:30Gives one up.
05:30Now Alvarez it's one deep to center.
05:32Bader back at the wall.
05:34And it's out of here.
05:35Same spot.
05:37Francisco Alvarez with his second home run of the season.
05:405-0 New York.
05:42It just gives you an idea how deep this Mets lineup can be once they get going.
05:47And they've gotten going tonight.
05:49Five runs and eight hits now against Malley of three and a third.
05:53You know what that is?
05:54That's 13 in a row retired to start the ball game for Noah McClain.
05:59McClain has struck out three which has helped his pitch count.
06:02He's at 55 pitches.
06:03And it's bounced weakly to the right side.
06:05McClain picks it up.
06:06Takes it himself to first base for the out.
06:09About 14 in a row retired for Cowboy Otani they call him.
06:15A quarterback.
06:15A football player.
06:16An outfielder.
06:17He's an athlete.
06:18Strike three called inside corner.
06:20Frozen solid.
06:22Five perfect innings so far.
06:24We go to the six.
06:25That's a whole lot of zeros on the San Francisco side.
06:29Ola McClain perfect through five innings.
06:3267 pitches.
06:33Gives the lower third of the order in the sixth.
06:35Harrison Bader.
06:36And that one stayed inside for ball four.
06:40And the Giants had their first base runner of the night.
06:43That was pretty close.
06:44It was very close.
06:45And it's inside ball four.
06:48So back to back walks from the seven and eight hitters to start the sixth inning.
06:53So a fly out to right for Encarnacion.
06:55And Bader again now at third.
06:57Bailey stays in first.
06:58So they're at the corners.
07:00One out.
07:00And back to the top of the order with Willie Adamas.
07:04Well this is probably the last inning for Nolan McClain.
07:07One way or the other at 87 pitches.
07:09In the air right center field headed toward the gap.
07:12And that's going to split him and go to the wall.
07:14It bounces over the fence for a ground rule double.
07:18That'll bring in Bader.
07:19Bailey has to go back to third.
07:21The first hit of the game for the Giants is a long ground rule double from Willie Adamas.
07:27And McClain had 93 pitches for the night.
07:29His work is done.
07:31Five and a third before he gave up a hit.
07:34After a couple of walks.
07:35Adamas with the run scoring double to get the Giants on the board.
07:38Tremendous night for Nolan McClain.
07:40But it ends after five and a third.
07:43Now a rise.
07:44Left handed hitter also.
07:46And he takes up and in.
07:47Gets away.
07:50And the Giants are on the board.
07:53Twice.
07:55Well it kind of takes away the sting from not getting that other run when that ball bounced over the
07:59fence.
08:00And now it's a three run deficit for the Giants.
08:04He's got to be a pass ball.
08:05Take him and really get him.
08:07Now Raleigh gets the roll over.
08:09Beatty throws it on target to Raleigh.
08:11And that retires the side.
08:13That's for the five to two lead as we start the seventh.
08:15Francisco Alvarez leads off.
08:17And Alvarez slugs one to deep left field.
08:20Forget that.
08:21Second home run of the night.
08:22And that one goes a long way.
08:25Beyond the ambulance.
08:27Third home run of the year.
08:28Second of the night for Alvarez.
08:30Six to two New York.
08:31So the Mets.
08:33Who had hit just five home runs in their first seven games.
08:36They've hit three tonight.
08:37And they've all come from the bottom part of the order.
08:39And Bichette lines one in the right field for his third hit of the night.
08:42That one hit it toward the gap.
08:44Cut off by Lee.
08:46Bichette trying for two.
08:47And he's in safely with a double.
08:49Lindor stops at third.
08:51So Bichette two singles and now an opposite field double.
08:54His second two base hit of the year.
08:56And he puts one in the center field.
08:58That's going to be down for a base hit.
08:59Lindor is in to score.
09:01Bichette will stop at third.
09:03Luis Robert down in the count 0-2.
09:05Just like Bichette gets himself a base hit to make it 7-2 New York.
09:10And Vientos dunks one in the right center for a base hit.
09:13The chef comes in to score.
09:15Vientos has been on base four times tonight.
09:18And his RBI single makes it 8-2 New York.
09:23Well, the seagulls have found their prey.
09:27Pizza goal.
09:28No garlic fries, but pizza.
09:30Pizza in the house.
09:31It's the pizza goal.
09:33Oh, they're sharing.
09:35See, they know the unwritten rule.
09:37They know to share.
09:38And they know to come down between innings rather than coming down where the game is going on.
09:43Encarnacion at third.
09:45Adamas at first.
09:47Little pop up.
09:48Shallow center field.
09:51And it falls.
09:52And the rise is going to have a hit and an RBI.
09:55And the Giants gets a break.
09:57And the breaking ball hits the short.
09:59In comes Lindor.
10:01And makes the play to retire the side.
10:03Brett Beatty is the only man not to reach base tonight.
10:06That's lined the other way by Beatty.
10:08Ramos comes on and can't get it.
10:10It goes all the way back to the wall.
10:12Robert Grayson for third.
10:13He's going to be waved around by Tim Laper.
10:16Beatty stops at second with an RBI double.
10:18Ball gets loose but backed up by Chapman.
10:22Brett Beatty after a rough night has himself on opposite field.
10:27Double the drive and a run to make it 9-3 New York.
10:30Rolled over to the right side.
10:32A rise will get the out at second.
10:34No chance to double a binge.
10:35And Beatty comes home with the 10th Mets run of the night.
10:38Garcia with the sweeper.
10:40Picks up his first strikeout.
10:42And the Giants are down to their final out of the night.
10:44Fly ball right field.
10:45Bange has to give some ground.
10:47Turns around and finds it.
10:48And that is the way this one ends.
10:52Almost a perfect night for the Mets.
10:54Marked only by the injury concern to Juan Soto.
10:58But Nolan McLean was spectacular.
11:00The Mets break out with a big night.
11:02Alvarez two home runs.
11:04Bichetta three hits.
11:06Semien a home run three RBIs as the Mets went at 10-3.
