00:00Justin Crawford, you just mentioned what he did in AAA last year.
00:03I was reading your article last week about him and Turner
00:06being two of the fastest players in all of Major League Baseball.
00:10It's a little surprising that Crawford has not attempted to steal a base yet.
00:14But what could that speed mean for this team?
00:18It's hard to even comprehend this right now
00:21because Trey Turner obviously isn't hitting at all.
00:24But I guess my question that I asked when I started working on that story
00:30was when's the last time the Phillies had two guys like this
00:35hitting back-to-back, two guys who could run like this and hit like this?
00:40Just talking speed, Trey Turner, fastest sprint speed of any player
00:46in the Major League last year, and he has been basically the fastest player
00:51in the sport from the time he broke in 10 years ago.
00:56Justin Crawford, fastest sprint speed of anybody in the top 100 prospects list.
01:04And now, so basically the fastest guy in the Major Leagues,
01:07fastest guy in the Minor Leagues, on this team together,
01:12it's kind of fun to think about the havoc that they could wreak.
01:17So I dug in a little bit.
01:18There's only one Phillies team in the last 100 years
01:23that's had two players steal at least 40.
01:27That was 1984, Juan Samuel and Von Hayes.
01:32And the last Phillies teammates with 35 apiece,
01:37Jimmy Rollins, Shane Victorino did it back-to-back in 2007 and 2008.
01:43So, I mean, this has been rare.
01:48Back to your question, why hasn't Justin Crawford run?
01:53This is what people asked after I wrote it off opening day,
01:57that they were both on base twice in that game.
02:00They were on base together late in that game, first and second, big spot,
02:05Schwerber coming up.
02:06And the assumption seemed to be that they had the red light with the big guys
02:11coming up.
02:12So I asked Kyle Schwerber about it, and he said totally not true,
02:17that he's told them both.
02:18They can run any time.
02:20You'd almost always rather hit with a runner on second than a runner on first.
02:26He might walk, but that's a lot of traffic.
02:28So, like, we haven't seen it yet.
02:31But I do think about the team, this team having so many lulls
02:38where it doesn't hit home runs.
02:41And think of what a weapon the speed of these two guys could be.
