00:00Young man who identified himself as a 400-level student in the Department of Statistics at the University of Joss,
00:07Unijoss in Plateau State has given accounts how he was told to go and collect the dead body of his
00:13sibling on the phone by the attackers who on Wednesday were seen in a viral video that mobbed and stoned
00:19his sibling almost to death at an ever-busy road near the permanent site of the University of Joss.
00:25Accordingly, he said the victim who happened to be his younger sibling is also a 300-level student in the
00:32Department of Geology from the same University of Joss, saying,
00:36His younger sibling only went out around 8 or 9 on Wednesday morning to resolve issue with his bank account
00:42at Terminus Area of the Joss City when he came under attack after the driver of the commercial tricycle or
00:48KK he entered abandoned him halfway and asked him to find way out for his own escape
00:53as the rampaging mobs took over the road. According to the elder brother of the mob victim who also introduced
00:59himself simply as Nando, his younger sibling already sensing danger, called him on the phone,
01:05that the KK driver had abandoned him halfway before the junction of his house, that, he's currently running on the
01:12street towards home, adding,
01:14the victim begged him to look for commercial motorcycle or a KK rider to advance towards his direction and wait
01:21at their street junction to help him home,
01:23but, while he made attempt to do as requested by his younger brother, the security operatives in the area prevented
01:30him, saying,
01:31they can't allow him go out because the situation in town was too dangerous.
01:36He said while he was looking helpless, he decided to put a call across to his younger brother,
01:42only for the phone's call to be answered by the attackers who spoke to him in Hausa language that they
01:47have killed his brother,
01:48that, he should go to the scene to pick his younger brother's dead body.
01:53He said he started crying and a lot of people around started consoling him while the security operatives at the
01:59senior staff quarters gate still prevented him from going out until there is normalcy in the area.
02:05He said some sympathizers took him home from the point he was to the university staff quarters where his neighbors
02:12who came in to also console him started encouraging him not to cry again,
02:16with the optimism that, his younger brother is not dead.
02:20He said one of his neighbors thereafter asked him to report the issue at the police station,
02:25which they did and submitted the snapped copy of the victim's student identity card at the police station and returned
02:31home waiting for feedback from the police.
02:34He said he was waiting on the police for feedback, he decided to log in into his WhatsApp group chats,
02:40and behold, he saw a video of his younger brother being interviewed at a hospital bed inside an undisclosed medical
02:47center
02:47and that was how he knew he was still alive and his whereabouts.
02:51It would be recalled that we had reported that it may not be wrong to say lack of proper accountability
02:56by the Nigeria police force.
02:59President Bola Ahmed Tanubu and the governor of Plateau State,
03:02Caleb Mutfwang is largely responsible for the daily killings in the troubled Joss city of Plateau State.
03:09This is probably glaring on Wednesday when a resident reported with a video evidence of a disturbing situation
03:15wherein a man was seen mobbed and stoned to death at a very popular and ever busy road
03:20apparently within the area or near the University of Joss permanent site.
03:25Group of attackers as seen in the video operated for some minutes if not up to an hour,
03:30used sticks, stones among others to hit the victim's head until they were satisfied the man would have been dead,
03:37while vehicles were seen speeding off, and moving away from them with no resistance or timely response from the
03:44Nigerian security operatives even when the worsening security situations and tensions in Plateau State have become of global concern.
03:52This, the Plateau State command of the Nigeria police force in a statement on Wednesday,
03:57only said a disagreement ensued between some youths in Nassarawoguang community of Joss North local government area on Wednesday
04:06and caused minor tensions in the town, saying,
04:09Unfortunately, some hoodlums and crisis merchants took advantage of the situation to cause fear and panic among traders and students
04:18within the university community.
04:20However, the command in collaboration with other security agencies swiftly intervened, arrested the situation and restored calm in the area
04:29but the Nigeria police force command apparently kept mute on the now viral video of a man being mobbed and
04:35stoned to death
04:36in a brutal and highly provocative manner that can cause a reprisal attack, more so, as daily killings in the
04:43state are attributed to religious differences,
04:45although some persons said the victim was still alive, but Sun newspaper reported on Thursday morning that three persons including
04:53the victim were killed in the fresh violence that erupted in Plateau State on Wednesday.
04:58When the daybreak, my brother was like, he wants to go to the Terminus, because he was like, he's having
05:06an issue with his bank.
05:08So, he said that he's going to the Terminus so that he wants to find an issue and come back.
05:15So, I'm going to the Terminus and like, that's how the thing started, because he left, he left from around
05:21eight, eight to nine, Terminus.
05:24So, when he went to the Terminus, and he was like, the bank was not even open until, because there
05:29is tension still going on.
05:31When he saw that the bank was not open, there will be a bank.
05:34So, as he went to turn and started coming back, quarters, and that's how the thing happened.
05:40You just see people running everywhere, everybody just trying to escape, running.
05:44He now entered the KK, he managed to go to the KK.
05:48So, he entered, and like, the KK was leaving Turkey, not too far from Terminus, yeah.
05:54And the KK man saw that, Omo, they are just fighting, people are running for their life, all these guys
05:59stop.
06:00Now, stop and say, Omo, just, just, he said, like, you just come down and know how you just escape.
06:06So, when my brother came down, he saw the situation, you know, pick his phone, he called me, Omo, he's
06:13in terminal, strength coming back.
06:15He got the KK, but the KK man didn't reach him to our junction.
06:20So, but he's not quite far, he's not too far from our junction, yeah.
06:23So, he's just running, like, with his leg, so that maybe he'll reach our junction, so that he'll enter inside,
06:28you know, stop, quarters.
06:29And he was like, please, can I come to the junction, maybe if you can see a bike, something like
06:33that, so that I'll come and carry him or help him out.
06:36And I was like, okay, okay, let me come down to the junction.
06:38So, when we end our calling, I came out of my room, I locked my room.
06:44But when I was trying to go out, I reached our senior staff quarters' jets.
06:48The security is there, couldn't allow me to go out because of the condition of, like, of the place.
06:54Because of the condition of the place, it's not that safe.
06:58So, they said that I will not be going out of the boat, you know, I have to stay.
07:03Because even locked the gate, they didn't allow me to go.
07:06And I was like, ah.
07:07But my brother called me, and this is how they said, they're not okay.
07:11If there's a chance, let me, let me call him back.
07:14So, when I called him, and the people that, I don't know, the people that attack him, I don't even
07:20know, they are the ones that picked the call.
07:22And they was like, ah.
07:24They picked the call, and they don't say hello.
07:26And it, like, the next thing, they started telling me that, that's what they were telling me.
07:30I was like, I feel my brother, that I feel my brother, I should come and take his call, his
07:33cops.
07:34From there, I just, my heart just broke.
07:37I just started crying.
07:38I was crying.
07:39I was crying.
07:40I was crying.
07:40When people were coming, they were saw me crying, everything was in the door, and they just managed to take
07:46me to my police quarters.
07:48So, when I reached there, I was even crying.
07:50I was just crying.
07:52My neighbors, people around, they came out, and I was like, what is going on, and I'm telling them, this
07:57is, this is what is going on with my brother.
07:59He went out, telling us, coming back, all these kinds of, and they were like, let me keep quiet, my
08:06brother is not dead.
08:08They believe that he will still come back.
08:09Let me stop crying.
08:11They believe that, they believe that my brother is, maybe someone come and rescue him to the hospital, or something
08:16like that, or maybe his father fell down.
08:17And they pick it, and they were just trying to put fear, fear in me.
08:22And I was like, all right, let me just, they'll just try and consult me, they'll calm me down.
08:27I said, okay.
08:29So, when I stayed for one hour, yeah, let me just one hour, I was like, I was like, I
08:36was really, really worried.
08:37Then, one of my, my landlady, my neighbors, she came and told me, told me how that, let us just
08:44go back to the security people, and go and report to them that.
08:47Maybe they, maybe they can go out and look for him, or, even if it's his, if it's his, like,
08:52he's dead, but then, maybe let them find and don't look.
08:55Okay.
08:56Thank God, he left his ID card.
08:58He didn't took his ID card to Tynos.
09:01So, I carried the ID card along with me.
09:03So, we went, we tell them that, so, this is the person that, he went to Tynos, and we don't
09:09even know whether they have killed him, or he's still alive.
09:12They now collect the ID card, they snap the ID card, and I say, okay.
09:16Okay, let me just go back to my, to my DQ.
09:19Let me just go and relax.
09:22They'll know what to do about it.
09:23And I'll say, okay.
09:25So, and I went back to my, my quarters.
09:28I was there, I was there one hour, two hours, around, exactly, it was 12 to one.
09:34And I now, so, I now logged into my group chat, and I now, so, they started posting videos.
09:41Because, my group chat, they know me, so, there's, there's also the video online, and they just started posting on
09:47my, my, my, my WhatsApp platform.
09:50And I was like, when I enter, I check the video.
09:52And I just, I played the video, and I, and I, I hear, it's my brother's voice.
09:58They were like, trying to make him, they interviewed him.
10:01They were asking him, okay, what is your name?
10:04Said, you know, your name is Longji Mallshap.
10:07Which, which, which, which department?
10:09He said, John, Yoji.
10:11John Redleville, University of Joss.
10:13Then the woman was like, okay, do you have a relative, or do you stay with anyone around?
10:18Then he said, yes.
10:19He said, what is the name of the person?
10:21He said, his name is Nandong.
10:24I said, okay.
10:25And the woman was like, today, she, she asked him, okay, which, which department?
10:29She said, it says, that is the department, 400 level.
10:32The woman was like, everything there.
10:35Then, it was, was, they post the video online.
10:39So, there's how people are just attacking me.
10:41The people started calling me, everything.
10:43There's how I know where, this way.
10:45The people started calling me, bringing you the news in a more digital way.
