00:00Environment Department Director General Juan Abdul Latif Juan Jafar and one of his deputies,
00:06Nurhazni Matsari, pleaded not guilty in separate sessions courts today to charges of accepting
00:11a total of 121,000 ringgit in gratification.
00:15Juan Latif pleaded not guilty before Judge Susanna Hussein to a charge of accepting a
00:20100,000 ringgit bribe.
00:23Juan Latif, 58, is accused of receiving the bribe from Sunrich Conquest's Indira and
00:28Hutt Director, Korchung Hai, through the company's project manager, Li Hamkong.
00:34The offense allegedly took place on January 15, 2025 at the Director General's office in Putrajaya.
00:40The gratification was allegedly given as an inducement for Juan Latif in his capacity as a
00:46public officer to consider an appeal for exemption from an environmental impact assessment.
00:52The exemption was linked to a planning permission application involving the proposed Bukit Kukus
00:57Twin Road Project and related earthworks in Payatero-Bong, Penang, submitted by Geo Valley
01:03Sindyuan Brihat via a letter dated November 22, 2024.
01:08The charge was framed under Section 16A sub-B of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act
01:142009, which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and a fine of not less than five times
01:20the value of the bribe or 10,000 ringgit, whichever is higher.
