00:00The curtains came down on the Catch National Junior Tennis Championships on Thursday afternoon at the National Racket Center in
00:06Taquerigua.
00:07President of Tennis TT, Hayden Mitchell, has labeled the tournament a success, saying a lot of talent was discovered.
00:13We saw a lot of great players. We discovered a few players that we really want to represent us in
00:20the upcoming tournaments.
00:22We are actually able to launch new technology, a new online platform for our players, the parents, the officials to
00:30use to get their scores, to register.
00:34And it was a great success from all the feedback that we've gotten.
00:37Mitchell is grateful to the sponsors for their contribution to local tennis.
00:40Speaking of which, there are other tournaments taking place in the next few days at the racket center.
00:45In terms of expansion, I know that Catch, and this is our 38th year sponsorship with Catch,
00:51and, you know, we're always adding value to each other, and it's now the Catch Grand Prix.
00:55So we're actually doing, after this event, we're having two international events starting this weekend.
01:01So you're going to have an international ITF under 18, which is part of the Catch Grand Prix now.
01:06We have players coming from Japan, China, Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada.
01:13While tennis may not be as popular as cricket and football in this part of the world,
01:17Mitchell was pleased with the turnout for the Catch tournament.
01:20And in time to come, the use of technology will help increase viewership.
01:24I think the audience has been very good.
01:27I mean, of course, at this age group, you're going to get a lot of parents, grandparents, everybody coming to
01:31support.
01:31I think in the future, the way the sport is going is more streaming, right?
01:36So that is something we want to introduce next year,
01:39so that all the diaspora who's out of the country, they can look at their family down here playing the
01:43tennis.
01:45The other thing for us is this competition is so important for us to discover the players that are representing
01:51Trinidad and Tobago.
01:52Mitchell is encouraging many to take up the sport, saying there are free classes for juniors and adults at the
01:57facility.
01:58Then we're just checking out the sport.
01:59We don't want any fields to export.
