01:03we met in college I fell in love with Cindy immediately we actually had a class together
01:09and she would ignore me and I met her at a party and my friend says there's that girl you

01:15go talk to her and I said oh she don't like me we ended up having a good conversation and
01:19and we've been together ever since we've worked together ever since college from real estate to
01:26mortgages and in our spare time we dress up like pirates a part of a pirate group we have socials
01:36we
01:36get together and make our costumes we raise money every month for charitable organizations we like the
01:43pirate life we found a group of friends down here so we're looking for a home here in past Christiane
01:50on
01:50Mississippi golf look at this out here it doesn't get any better this is awesome we ought to seriously
01:57start looking for a place near the beach yeah we can take a look start the search and see what
02:03we
02:03can find we live in Slidell Louisiana which is about 45 minutes from here and women coming down to past
02:09Christiane for about six to seven years a lot of people come from New Orleans it's only about an
02:15hour and it's located on the Mississippi Gulf it's on the east side of St. Louis Bay between Biloxi and
02:21Bay St. Louis the beaches are wonderful this whole area for a good 15 miles is just beautiful sand and
02:29you've got all these gorgeous homes nice friendly mom-and-pop type businesses it's peaceful you're right
02:37on the water we love it we want to spend a couple weeks at a time and have a home
02:42and a place to stay
02:43if we could set it up so that it could become a permanent home down the road here that would
02:48be wonderful I would like to be nearby so we can ride our bikes so walking distance is important and
02:55then I'd like to have at least one extra bedroom for guests no less than three yeah I don't want
03:01too big of a house but I want to be comfortable we're down in the south and nine months out
03:06of the
03:06year it's gorgeous weather dinner so we definitely want to find something that we can have an outdoor
03:11tiki bar we can have something that we can enjoy the outdoors definitely two bathrooms we need an
03:15office space doing remote work what if we found a place that had a great price and it needed some
03:22renovations and some cleanup would you be cool with that oh I'm definitely cool with that I mean we've done
03:26it before yeah with other properties yeah we know what we're doing and we want to find something
03:30that's a good value if we can stay under $400,000 we'd be real comfortable with that yeah Cindy's
03:36wonderful interior designer she absolutely knows how to redo kitchens and bathrooms and then I like
03:43building I do like to do some repairs and remodeling we have had our friends pushing us to move down
03:50here

04:17approximately 1,800 square feet on point four five acres two-bedroom two-bath three hundred forty
04:25five thousand square footage is right but why only two bedrooms in that I wonder if they're big large
04:31bedrooms yeah yeah five minutes from the Gulf okay just close real close to the Bay might be good

18:13we're super excited to call past Christian our new home each property had its own unique details
18:19and experience to it I really like Bayou Bay it's got a nice piece of property but there's a little
18:26noisy there with the roadway I like the canal Cove is on the water real close to the Bay my
18:31biggest
18:32thing is the size of it 1200 square feet I know we're talking about downsizing but that's a little
18:38too small I think so we decided to go with it I mean location location location it's a block from
18:47the
18:47beach at the end we said you know what let's get the bigger home we wanted to go a little
18:52smaller the more
18:53we fall in love with it I'm thinking that we may end up moving down here full-time and we're
18:58gonna
18:58build this big tiki bar in the back and entertain folks Serenity Sands was listed at 425,000 and they
19:05hadn't had any activity for about a year so we offered cash 300,000 and they accepted it we found
19:11the right place and we got the right price and uh-huh now we got a lot of work to
19:15do we couldn't be happier
19:18I'm excited yeah yeah we bought this place oh yeah hey we're home yeah we got to figure out what
19:27we're gonna do in here yeah this is what do you want to do with this remove it I think
19:33we can keep
19:34the fireplace but let's think about a bookcase unit that surrounds it a feature wall with shelves I like
19:42it the the track lighting I think we ditch it and put down lights coming into the bookcase on each
19:48side why don't we have them remove the popcorn mm-hmm so that's a lot in this room what are
19:56we gonna do
19:56in here all right so I've got some thoughts about this pass-through I want to talk to you about

20:09the bedroom so here is where we got to spend some money in the bathroom yes this is the big

20:17so new flooring paint I want to get rid of that shower in the back right until that's gonna come
20:25out this wall is coming out it's gonna be glass and then over here we're going to do a double
20:31vanity
20:32and remove the closet okay I'm thinking single mirrors some new vanity lighting and we got to
20:39get rid of this closet right in the front here when you come in and open this up and this
20:44door
20:44is too narrow oh we need to get at least a 30 inch door in there yeah so this is
20:49probably going to be
20:49the most expensive part no we've got the kitchen too okay so in here I think all new appliances I'd
20:59like to paint mm-hmm the cabinets take that oven unit out lower it and fix the soffit and decorate

21:06some beadboard replace the countertops over here replace the back with some pretty tile well I want to put that
21:14window in the
21:15dining room here so you're looking in here mm-hmm we're gonna have to knock this counter down yeah I
21:20would like to make it one level and put a huge butcher block and extend this out more we could
21:26put some stools and then some pendants over the peninsula this is gonna look great all right but we saw
21:33let's talk about the tiki bar so I do let's go talk all right let's see what we got I

21:45over here maybe clear panels on the roof keep some light in here I like that between the windows we

21:52a back bar we definitely want to do a tiki bar that people can sit around and then on the

22:11fireplace out and then we're gonna turn that into a TV room then we got the three bedrooms in the

22:16and we're going to take the carpet out yeah we'll do new flooring on all the bedrooms paint and make

22:23third bedroom and office yeah and then the two guest bathrooms we'll just do a little painting and clean
22:28them up just a little bit but they're in pretty good shape overall after closing costs we
22:33technically have about a hundred thousand left over but we crunched numbers and decided to keep
22:38it right around fifty thousand and we'll be doing some of the work ourselves so fifty thousand dollars
22:43plus our work we're gonna be getting a lot out of it mm-hmm but we're gonna get some good
22:47help
22:47we'll get this thing going and making it look great
22:58everybody grab something and let's get it out of here today's the day we start turning this house
23:03into what we want it to be mm-hmm part of our pirate crew is gonna join us and when
23:10we get together we
23:10all dress like pirates and everybody works hard I mean everybody's coming out they've remodeled homes and
23:16done things before as well but because they didn't want to get their outfits dirty and so forth they
23:22switched to other clothes so the goal for today is first to move all the furniture out of the rooms
23:28for popcorn removal okay now wait a minute it's not going to fit we got to take those off
23:41all right we're also going to rip up the carpet and knock some walls down are you ready to get

23:48done yeah let's knock this thing down all right you ready you make the first swing let's do it
24:03this is fun isn't it i'm having a great time yes i am so happy of what's been done so
24:10far the main rooms are empty
24:14we got the wall almost fully demos and our subcontractor juan is here he'll kind of lead the
24:20way on the bathroom remodel and the kitchen remodel hey Juan how's it going i'm just getting good i want
24:25to try to take a whole piece but it's to tie there so tight here so we can cut it
24:30in half you got to cut
24:30it in half before we go back to slide L i'd like to get some progress started on the kitchen
24:38make sure
24:39that the bathroom is completely gutted this is awesome we're empty isn't that awesome yeah i think
24:46we're here to help yeah because we're going to come back for the party you are you don't help you
24:51don't get to come so we have one more day Juan is coming to remove all the popcorn from the
25:09dining room family room kitchen and we're also going to start the remodel on the primary bathroom
25:17we've got a couple of our pirate friends coming back i'm gonna pop the drywall off and then we'll get

26:21and we put a first coat on the bottom kitchen cupboards so today was a good day overall we
26:27got a lot done the team that we had here today was pushing hard and without their hard work we've
26:34never would have gotten as far as we did today yeah we're ahead of schedule we like it or at
26:38least on
26:38schedule and we do it again another day we have to figure out this bathroom we are in town trying
26:53to get the primary bathroom put together we're anxious to get started on that i want to show
26:59you some floor samples oh great what do you got the primary bathroom flooring we were choosing
27:05between a real tile and luxury vinyl plank this is a porcelain tile and then we go back to a
27:14luxury
27:15vinyl type thing this one matches the vanity top it's got the veining in it i gotta be honest with
27:22it we're gonna do the whole floor i like having something through it instead of just stark stark white
27:28that feels too resort hotel-y how much more would this be i think it's almost double all right wonderful
27:37this makes a lot more sense let's go for it all right we like the luxury vinyl plank that one
27:42you
27:42can piece together easy we can install it ourselves without hiring anybody so this is our first option
27:49and i i love it gorgeous that is nice second option is a similar material it's a tongue and
27:59groove system totally waterproof i mean is this more expensive pricing on it comes out to be about the
28:06same per square foot it'll be light and bright and the vanity is gray as well and i like the
28:11idea we
28:12kind of open this up let's keep it uh brighter lighter you know we're trying to make it beachy let's
28:17go with
28:17this one then we're in this is gonna look great we decided to go with a vertical placement of it
28:23and it also is easy to install so we're anxious to get started on that
28:40nice today we're gonna go ahead and put in the hall bathroom cabinet
28:45in the sink and we've got to redo the plumbing underneath yeah we have juan and his assistant
28:52our subcontractor my realtor and designer friend tiffany will be joining us
28:56and what's wrong

29:08i cut a nice angle on there so hopefully we'll be able to glue it on
29:11make it work we'll find out they're going to start sanding the ceilings
29:21we're going to do some exploratory taking walls out of the pass through

30:42we got the cabinet put into the bathroom we gotta get the plumber here and the electrician yeah we
30:48need guys that know how to do real plumbing and real electric because uh i'm limited in that capacity
30:53but we got a lot more work but we're excited about it
31:08okay so this one i'll have to trim just a little bit off less than half an inch today i'm
31:14going to be
31:14laying in floor planks in our first bedroom which is something i have actually not done before but i've
31:20been looking at the videos and talking to folks that have we still have a little bit of a gap

31:35so we can pull the refrigerator out and come from this end
31:39today i'm planning on working in the kitchen primarily
31:43remove some of the remaining backsplash
31:46so you're moving the wall but you're not moving i just the eyebrow just broke the wall

33:08this place is really coming along and looking fantastic the tiki bar on the back porch is one
33:22of our major renovations for the house we wanted to support 30 people 40 people on the porch
33:28robert and i have done construction a couple times in the past so i said robert you got to come

33:32there and help me with it for a couple days what we're trying to do is dig out holes put
33:39in the
33:39first part of the framing there it is
33:47and put concrete and that's what we got accomplished so i can then put posts and a roof on the
33:54back porch
33:55the back splash okay ready today tiffany my designing partner and i are going to tackle the backsplash
34:04love it we're going with a white mosaic subway tile i think it's going to look really well with
34:11the color we're going with the color we chose for the walls beautiful already
34:21oh okay a little electric shock going on

34:49well bad and robert are working on the back porch i've got a few friends of my own coming over

35:02painted that one today's job for fran was putting together the shadow box with the oysters
35:09my friend mickey who is a artist i had her do the lettering on the palette sign the major project
35:16was putting up the mural wallpaper my friend diane assisted with that she picked it up right well and
35:23it went on like a dream okay it looks wonderful and very happy with the way it turned out
35:30it's all right let's bring it down both the hallway bathroom and the primary bathroom are coming
35:43along very nice the hallway bathroom the beachy backsplash and the beadboard has come along nicely
35:49tile in the primary shower is awesome it's exactly what we wanted it's kind of light and airy i guess
35:56would be the best way to describe it it's like night and day from the old bathroom with
36:00most of the big projects done we can now think about decorating we're super excited to call past
36:05christian our new home
36:15today we're excited we're going to be building the tiki bar repurposing the fireplace mantle from inside
36:26the process will be to cut it down
36:32perfect size fill in the front gap where the fireplace goes
36:38well you're going to move them so this fits okay i like that yeah it works
36:43it looks good all right so let's put the top on
36:52now we have the tiki bar itself in place oh this is huge
36:58now we can start dressing this place and putting up some really cool things
37:07we're going to use a lot of shells and different things from the sea that uh bohemian bahamas vibe
37:13going that kind of thing oh that's not that cool
37:27today is the big day we're putting the final touches on the house hi pirates pirates forever
37:38oh they're here they're here finally all right i've got my niece rochelle coming over who has never
37:44seen the house hi oh my gosh and then our good friends diane and jeff are coming
37:54come on in we're going to show you around this has been an incredible experience we thought we were
37:59going to do uh quite a bit when we started that we did more of course oh welcome to our
38:04new home
38:06it's almost like a different place now that fireplace gosh that looks great it's now it looks
38:11like it's built in it's like it's always been here that looks so good well the fireplace had a
38:16wooden mantle over the top of it and there was nothing on each side of it and cindy came up
38:21with
38:22the idea of doing the shelving which is fantastic awesome that's a great focal point
38:28it and here is the primary bedroom we didn't do much in here we love the color so we just
38:34decorated it so it feels more like the beach but this bathroom we did gut we did a lot of
38:40work in
38:41here wow when you came in here behind you rochelle was a big closet that was all a closet there
38:47was a
38:47single sink over there on that side there was a single sink right here and another closet over here
38:53and this was an old bathtub and around the corner was uh the shower and we just decided to completely
38:59got this thing open it up do the double vanity cindy came up with this whole idea for the shower

39:05whole shower is pretty impressive one touch the tile it looked like fabric it's hard to believe that's a
39:13tile i love how you married the vintage and the modern together it really brings the beach look and
39:19everything we got a whole another half of the house to see okay in this family room there literally
39:25was a wall here with a little window opening a closet and a little archway here wow now it looks
39:31a little retro modern and beachy and colors are great beautiful
39:39wow this is gorgeous this is this is really beautiful i just love the colors my favorite
39:46love is this butcher block that was a peninsula that had a two level with the black granite on it
39:52and i just had a dream of this butcher block to come out on there brightens the space yeah and
39:58we had
39:58talked about replacing the uh the countertops but once i got the back splash i decided to go ahead
40:05and keep it and save some money there i like it yeah it's great and it just kind of picks
40:10up all the
40:11colors with the color of the cabinets yeah and then even with the wood because you have the different
40:16grains in there and then what we did is adding the beadboard up on the soffit you did a great
40:21job
40:22bringing all the textures together from the facets on the knobs and the backsplash and then
40:29the pendant lighting thank you great i think it's all beautiful very nice thinking i might need to
40:35have you ever and help me a little bit it looks fantastic all right well now guys i got to
40:42show you
40:42my favorite part of this whole place let's see it come take a look the tiki bar this is the
40:51pirate very nice wow this is awesome you think so some pirates are gonna like hanging out here
41:00this was just an outdoor deck with a railing we came up with the idea of putting up a roof
41:06over this
41:07so that we could enjoy it out here this was the fireplace mantle that we've turned into the tiki bar
41:12oh wow that's really great oh very nice i love it i'm just really impressed with what you've done
41:19you've both done a fantastic job and your vision for this place was more than i couldn't think of
41:26it's beautiful and it's the cool space to be in i love it all this afternoon we're having our party
41:31and we're gonna have about 20 pirates here all right let's go back great job great really beautiful
41:39wonderful wonderful what's really cool about all this is the house came out better than we had
41:44expected and i gotta say the more that we're spending time down here we're falling in love
41:48with this place more and more each day i love it it really came out well come on
41:56even though we got the house for under asking price we just decided we didn't want to spend more
42:01than fifty thousand dollars on renovations so we decided we're going to go ahead and do a lot of the
42:05work
42:05ourselves we were able to stay within that budget of fifty thousand dollars well what do you think
42:11about this whole place it's nice one of the best things about this whole thing is our friends they
42:15are completely stunned and amazed at what we've put together so our pirate grew
42:22to serenity sands and many pirate gatherings and may i say that the house looks amazing
42:30y'all did a wonderful job thanks they're very excited about it we're getting a lot of good
42:35compliments so we built it in and built the bookshelves and everything and we really appreciate
42:42that there are good ships and bad ships and ships that sell at sea and may we always love the
42:49friendships
