00:00As Filipinos observe the Lenten season, their deep-rooted faith is reflected in time-honored traditions.
00:07James Thompson takes us to the story of a family fulfilling their personal vows or panata through practices like Visita
00:15Iglesia.
00:23During the Lenten season, Filipinos observe traditions that strengthen their faith such as Visita Iglesia, the Stations of the Cross,
00:32and the Cenaculo.
00:33Lent comes from the Latin word Quadragesima. It means 40 days.
00:38It is a period of dedicated to commemorating the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
00:43The season begins on Ash Wednesday and concludes on Easter Sunday.
00:48For Jazlyn de la Cruz's family, they make it a point to visit various churches together to pray and give
00:56thanks for all the blessings they have received.
00:59Among the churches they visit are Nuestra Señora del Santísimo Rosario Parish, Santa Elena Emperatriz Parish, and Our Lady of
01:08Mount Carmel Parish.
01:09According to her, this has become a lifelong vow, a panata, for her family every Holy Week.
01:16Aside from the opportunity to travel, it serves as a way for every member of her family to draw closer
01:23to the Lord.
01:23It also strengthens their family bond, helping them stay united despite the challenges they face.
01:30Meanwhile, Jack Padilla has served as an altar server in their church for 13 years.
01:36His entire family also practices the tradition of visiting different churches during Lent, a habit influenced by his late mother.
02:24It has also become Jack's personal vow to participate in the senakulo,
02:28where he showcases his acting skills on the stage and contributes behind the scenes.
02:33He says this is what his mother wanted, for them to lead colorful, happy lives filled with hope.
02:40In homily by Rev. Fr. Marion Brian Maciraya,
02:44he emphasized that faith is not seen through church attendance alone.
02:49People must also follow the promises of God.
02:52In this season of reflection, we all have our own ways of remembering the life Jesus Christ offered to save
03:00us,
03:00to be able to enjoy the life we have today.
