It is “demonstrable” the SNP is improving the NHS, First Minister John Swinney has said, as he announced that an SNP government would open centres to provide “MOTs for lung and heart health”, if elected in May.The centres, which would open in community settings including football stadiums, shopping centres and workplaces, would be modelled on a Japanese initiative.Scots would be screened for cancer, COPD and heart disease, the party said, in a bid to reduce the pressure felt by the NHS.

00:22is that, you know, these guys,
00:24they're meeting today next to the middle of patients

00:36I want to see a network in place in accessible locations
00:40to make sure that people get the early intervention
00:42and the support to ensure that we identify those at risk
00:46of lung and heart disease
00:47and that we can take the appropriate steps
00:49to support individuals as a consequence.
00:51These should be undertaken in partnership with local organisations

00:58that is delivering services of this type around the country
01:01and I want to make sure that network is expanded in partnership
01:05with a range of local organisations
01:06in communities across Scotland.
