Government delivers 2m NHS appointments but ‘more to do’

Health Secretary Wes Streeting says the government has delivered on its manifesto promise of two million extra NHS appointments but adds “there is a hell of a lot more to do” to bring down waiting times and deal with a “wide range of pressures in the NHS”. NHS England figures show that between July and November 2024 there were almost 2.2 million more appointments compared with the equivalent period in 2023. Report by Jonesia. 00:00We came into government in July against the backdrop of the worst NHS crisis in history

00:06and we've hit the ground running, delivering the two million more appointments we promised in our manifesto as a first step

00:12and delivering that seven months early.

00:14But we're not pretending it's job done and we're certainly not doing victory lapses,

00:18there's a hell of a lot more to do to bring those waiting times down, to cut waiting lists

00:23and frankly to deal with the wide range of pressures in the NHS from ambulance response times,

00:29people struggling to get a GP or dentist appointment.

00:32So our message today is a lot done, but a hell of a lot more to do.
