00:00President Bola Ahmed Tanubu of Nigeria has commended the governors of Kaduna and Plateau states after citizens were massacred by
00:07terrorists almost simultaneously on Sunday in the two states.
00:11With the president claiming Governor Caleb Mutfwan contained the situation in Joss without specifically stating what the governor did, even
00:19when armed terrorists seen successfully invaded and massacred citizens or brutally and indiscriminately shot sporadically and killed numbers of persons
00:28at Gary Yar Way quarters in the Angwin-Rakuba community of Joss North local government area of Plateau state on
00:36Sunday night which was also the Christians' last day of the Holy Week of Lend-No.
00:41In this Palm Sunday leading up to Easter celebration, residents said the terrorists raided the community and operated for a
00:48long period of time that lasted up to an hour without resistance or any action from government, some even accused
00:55men of the armed forces of Nigeria, AFN of allegedly aiding and giving cover to the terrorists to escape, specifically,
01:03one of the youth's leaders in Plateau state who spoke with a prominent Nigeria social media personality,
01:09Martins Vincentos aka Varidogman who visited the scene of the crime, said, Nigeria soldiers prevented the youths from going after
01:18the terrorists and stood in between the gaps shooting at the youths while the terrorists escaped.
01:23But, in a swift reaction on Tuesday, Nigeria army authority debunked the claim that the soldiers gave the terrorists a
01:31cover, saying, the soldiers arrived the scene with four gun trucks after the terrorists have left due to long distance
01:37and acted professionally without stating what the soldiers did, professionally, before the Sunday massacre, on Friday, in one of the
01:45burial ceremonies of the people that were previously killed by terrorists in Plateau state during the Christians' Holy Week of
01:52Lend-No.
01:53Reverend Ezekiel Dakimo while speaking, said, in this village, Rimning Riyam local government area, alone, we have received attacks from
02:02the Islamic terrorists more than 24 times, and many residents said the Sunday massacre was premeditated and the governor and
02:09the president apparently failed to put proactive measures in place to prevent the attacks, that aside, almost at the same
02:17time on Sunday,
02:18another group of terrorists attacked, another group of terrorists attacked Cahir village in Kagako local government area of Kaduna state,
02:24shot sporadically at residents and killed and kidnapped several numbers of wedding guests, a crime, according to Punch newspaper, a
02:32resident said the attack has operated freely and successfully up to an hour without resistance.
02:37But, President Bola Ahmed Tanubu in a press statement on Tuesday specifically said,
02:43I commend Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau state for his efforts in containing the situation in JOS and Governor Uba
02:50Sani of Kaduna state for supporting the rescue and containment efforts.
02:54Apparently reacting to the worsening security situation in Nigeria shortly after the president press release was published on Tuesday,
03:03Lieutenant General Takua Baratai, former Nigeria chief of army staff posted a video in his verified Facebook social media account,
03:11with a statement,
03:13History, Mediguri, Nigeria.
03:15Year 2017.
03:17For the first time in years,
03:20the Nigerian army conducted military drills in the Sambisa forest which previously had been a stronghold for Boko Haram.
03:27Voice of America,
03:29VOA was given rare access to the exercises.
03:33Formations of the Nigerian army performed their 2017 annual drill in Borno state,
03:39in northeast Nigeria.
03:40The location in Sambisa forest was no accident,
03:43the Nigerian army retic Sambisa late 2016 and moved its annual exercises there.
03:50The event was attended by leaders from the military and the Nigerian government.
03:55In contrast to the commendation of Plateau and Kaduna states,
03:59Governors,
04:00it would be recalled that President Bola Tanubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18,
04:072025 and gave six-month suspension to the Governor,
04:10Siminalai Fibara and his deputy,
04:13and the State House of Assembly on the grounds that the Fibara administration was failing to protect critical infrastructure,
04:20specifically regarding the reported vandalization of oil pipelines like Trans Niger pipeline without intervention,
04:27even in the face of verifiable facts that on February 18, 2025,
04:32exactly one month before his suspension.
04:35Fibara met with the General Officer Commanding,
04:38GOC of the 6th Division,
04:40pledging full support for military efforts to curb pipeline vandalism and protect national infrastructure
04:46and invested in operational equipment,
04:48including donating vehicles,
04:51gunboats,
04:51and an AW-139 helicopter to the Nigerian Air Force on March 5, 2025 to enhance their efficiency in patrolling
05:00oil facilities,
05:02while Fibara also publicly charged traditional rulers to actively work for peace in the domains
05:07and help stem the tide of oil bunkering and vandalism.
05:11According to American humanitarian and people's rights activist, Alex Barbier,
05:16if you have no right to breathe, what right do you have?
05:20While people are fighting for elections,
05:22and painting banners of Tanubu,
05:24and everybody's worrying about APC, PDP, LP,
05:29you are being killed.
05:31At what point will the people care about life?
05:34Alex Barbier made this in reaction to the Sunday massacre at Gary Yahweh area in Joss,
05:40while speaking with the locals at the scene of the crime.
05:42While Reverend Ezekiel Dacamo called on President Donald Trump of the United States,
05:48U.S. to send a small unit of U.S. soldiers alongside U.S. drones to plateau state
05:53else the people in the state would be wiped out by the Islami terrorists.
05:58Reacting to soldiers giving the terrorists cover to escape,
06:02Captain Chan-on-so Policarpo-Tay,
06:04the media information officer of Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace in a rebuttal on Tuesday,
06:11stated in quotes that,
06:12the attention of Headquarters Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace
06:17has been drawn to a false comment by one of the youth leaders of Angwin-Rakuba community,
06:22circulating on various social media platforms,
06:26alleging that troops provided cover for the perpetrators of Palm Sunday
06:29unprovoked attack at Angwin-Rakuba community in Joss North local government area of Plateau State.
06:36Ordinarily, the reply to the comment made by the youth leader would not have been necessary,
06:41especially in this moment of grief,
06:43but for the purpose of clarity and the benefit of well-meaning Nigerians
06:47it is expedient to state unequivocally that at no point did troops provide any form of cover
06:53for the terrorists' elements who carried out the unfortunate attack that claimed the lives of innocent citizens.
06:59Rather, troops on receiving a distress call on the unfortunate incident swiftly mobilized to the scene,
07:05which was far away from where they were deployed and observed that the attackers had fled.
07:09Troops acted professionally to revert what could have spiraled to endless bloodshed
07:15and pursued the fleeing criminals as can be attested to,
07:18by so many survivors who were at the scene of the attack.
07:21Specifically, four gun trucks mounted by troops were dispatched to the incident scene
07:26and they acted professionally on arrival as confirmed by other security agencies,
07:31as well as eyewitnesses at the scene of the attack.
07:34Nonetheless, the allegation was promptly investigated and confirmed to be false.
07:39The comment by the youth leader is false, misleading and unfortunate,
07:44capable of demoralizing troops and causing disaffection between the military and its host community.
07:49The public is requested to discountenance the comment,
07:53remain calm, law-abiding and continue to support troops with credible and actionable
07:58information on terrorists' activities.
08:01Troops in conjunction with other security agencies have adopted effective strategies
08:06to unravel and apprehend the perpetrators of the dastardly act.
08:10Troops will continue to deal decisively with criminals while maintaining peace in every part of Plateau State.
08:17Nigeria Presidency
08:19In a statement signed and made available by Bayo Onanuga,
08:22the special advisor to the President on Information and Strategy on Tuesday,
08:27President Bolatanubu has strongly condemned the barbaric and cowardly attacks by gunmen in Angwin-Rakuba District,
08:34Joss, Plateau State.
08:36He equally condemned the attacks in Kahir Village in Kagako local government area of Kaduna State.
08:43Describing the attack on the community in Joss and the killing and abduction of wedding guests in Kaduna
08:48as an affront to all that Nigeria stands for,
08:51President Tanubu assured Nigerians that the barbaric acts will not go unpunished.
08:56Anyone who will sneak under the cover of the night and kill defenseless citizens as done in Joss and Kahir
09:02Village,
09:03is a heartless coward.
09:04By attacking soft targets in Joss,
09:07their objective is not only to cause harm but also trigger a spiral of reprisal attacks and further bloodletting,
09:13he said.
09:14He has directed security agencies to intensify all efforts to pursue the perpetrators
09:20and those spreading misinformation that can inflame tensions and further endanger lives.
09:26He cautioned some sections of the media, insinuating the attacks were religiously motivated.
09:31President Tanubu reaffirmed that security agencies are actively addressing the situation
09:37and stressed that public cooperation is vital to maintaining peace and protecting lives and property.
09:42He stressed the need for communities to comply with evacuation, relocation, and related advice and processes.
09:50He hailed the safe return of two of the Kaduna victims.
09:54I urge our security agencies to be more proactive in preventing these attacks by acting on early warning intelligence.
10:01All the remaining abductees from Kahir Village must be rescued immediately, the president said.
10:08I commend Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State for his efforts in containing the situation in Joss
10:13and Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State for supporting the rescue and containment efforts.
10:18I assure the people and government of the two states of my support.
10:23I commiserate with the families of those killed and pray for the quick recovery of the injured.
10:29Our government is currently acquiring more sophisticated equipment to enable our security agencies to track and smash criminals,
10:36in real time, wherever they are.
10:39Meanwhile, Vanguard newspaper reported on Tuesday that the,
10:43United States Congressman, Riley Moore, warned yesterday that continued attacks on Christians in Nigeria
10:50could strain diplomatic relations with the U.S.,
10:54following reports of a deadly Palm Sunday killings in Joss,
10:58Plateau State, and Kaduna State.
11:00Recall that no fewer than 40 persons were killed by gunmen suspected to be terrorists on Sunday night
11:06at Angwa Recuba Community in Joss North local government area of Plateau State
11:11and Kahir Village in Kagako local government area of Kaduna State.
11:15While 27 were killed at Recuba Community in Plateau,
11:2013 wedding guests were mowed down by the attackers in Kaduna.
11:23The police in Plateau, however, said only 14 persons were killed in the attack that marred Palm Sunday in the
11:31community.
11:32Reacting to the killings in a post on X yesterday,
11:35Moore condemned the reported killing of Christians in Angu and Recuba,
11:39describing the incident as part of a troubling pattern of violence targeting worshippers during religious observances.
11:46The congressman, who was part of a United States fact-finding delegation on alleged Christian genocide in Nigeria,
11:53added that such attacks had become frequent during Christian holy days.
11:57Urging Nigerian authorities to take decisive action to prevent further bloodshed.
12:03This Palm Sunday, reports from Nigeria indicate that at least 10 Christians were martyred in the city of Joss.
12:10Radical Islamic terrorists opened fire on the Christians before hacking them to pieces with machetes.
12:16This is sickening and unacceptable, but it's not surprising.
12:20This tragedy follows a pattern of radical Islamic terrorists massacring Christians on holy days.
12:26In fact, terrorists have attacked Christians in Nigeria on every single holy day in recent memory,
12:33except for last Christmas when President Trump sent 12 Tomahawk cruise missiles to stop them, he added.
12:41Moore called on the federal government, led by President Bola Tanubu,
12:45to urgently strengthen security measures ahead of upcoming religious events.
12:50Abuja knows this pattern and they must massively ramp up security for the Triduum and Easter.
12:55If they don't take this threat seriously and mobilize to defend our brothers and sisters in Christ,
13:02blood of these martyrs will be on their hands,
13:04and there will be significant consequences for Nigeria's relationship with the United States, he warned.
13:10Meanwhile, the attackers of the plateau community, said to be in large numbers,
13:16stormed the densely populated community at about 7.30pm on Palm Sunday
13:20and opened a sporadic fire on residents, throwing the area into panic.
13:25Punch newspaper also reported that,
13:28at least 13 persons have been killed,
13:31and several others abducted after suspected bandits attacked a wedding ceremony in Kahir village,
13:36Kagako local government area of Kaduna State.
13:39The incident, which occurred late Sunday night at about 11.47pm,
13:44has triggered fresh fears over rising insecurity in rural communities across the state.
13:50Eyewitnesses said the gunmen, who arrived in large numbers and were armed with sophisticated weapons,
13:56stormed the wedding venue and opened fire indiscriminately on guests.
14:00A resident of the area, Shehubala, said the incident plunged the community into chaos,
14:06as guests scampered for safety.
14:08They came in large numbers and started shooting sporadically.
14:12People were running in different directions.
14:15Many were hit by bullets, Bala said.
14:18He added that several victims sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to the general hospital in Kagako,
14:24while those in critical condition were referred to facilities in Kaduna for advanced medical attention.
14:30Bala further noted that the exact number of abducted persons could not be immediately ascertained
14:35due to the confusion that trailed the attack.
14:38A community leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity,
14:42said the assailants operated for nearly one hour without any resistance from security forces.
14:48They attacked the wedding and later moved around the village,
14:51looting shops and carting away food items, provisions and even medical supplies, the source said.
14:58According to him, many residents fled into nearby bushes as the sound of gunshots echoed throughout the community.
15:05It was gathered that the victims have since been buried,
15:08while efforts to establish contact with the abductors have not yielded results.
15:13He gave the names of some of those killed as Baker Danjuma,
15:17Williams Luka, Peter Williams, Joseph Yakubu, Victor Peter, John Danasabe, Angulu Marcus, Maikano Araby, Douglas John,
15:27Adu Yakubu, Zafania Al-Hajji, Joseph Kader and Francis Mungu Adoya.
15:34Adu Yakubu, they just murdered over 10 people, innocent Christians, on Palm Sunday.
15:43Tanubu, where are you?
15:45As your people are slaughtered in the night.
15:48As you sit in Aso Rock and you do absolutely nothing.
15:52You allow your people to be killed again and again and again and again.
15:57When will it stop?
15:58When will you hear the cries of Nigerians, of Christians?
16:01You can no longer deny genocide.
16:04They're being slaughtered.
16:07And you say there's no issue.
16:10You will regret what you are doing.
16:15I'm the youth leader of the Northern Plateau.
16:18Yes, sir.
16:19I'm the Plateau Youth Council.
16:20I coordinate the Northern Zone from Angol-Rukuba Direct.
16:25I was trained in Angol-Rukuba, grew up in Angol-Rukuba.
16:28Unfortunate incidents happened yesterday around 7.30.
16:33Gunmen just came, started shooting on people.
16:38Some are using matchets.
16:41And the unfortunate aspect of it is that most of them are wearing half camu.
16:46There's the Ani clothes.
16:48And a veil, this Hausa veil on their neck.
16:50And they were speaking Hausa in this flani language.
16:54Going down, spraying bullets on people.
16:57And other people are using matchets.
17:00When they are going down in less than 10 minutes, they will now see Anika.
17:05Like two helots just came.
17:08Two bikers, three, three in one.
17:10And give them cover.
17:11I was there, I think, one of the Ani nearly shot me on the leg.
17:16He missed a spray on the ground.
17:20The Ani, Nigerian Ani.
17:22The Ani, the Nigerian Ani.
17:23Sorry, please.
17:24I will have to take you back a little.
17:26Yes.
17:26You said, you witnessed, that when they came down, some of them were shooting.
17:31Some of them were using machete on people.
17:33Yes.
17:35Ani came with your van.
17:37Yes.
17:38And gave them cover.
17:39What do you mean by giving them cover?
17:41Yes.
17:42Ani, he lost, two helots came.
17:45Nigerian Ani.
17:45Nigerian Ani, when youth came out in mass in order to follow the attackers,
17:52on realizing that the attackers, because three, two weeks back,
17:59NDLA came in, started shooting and arrest some people because of drug issue.
18:04And then when this one started, the boys thought that it was the same operation.
18:10Unknowingly, when we came close, we now realize that the setting of these people,
18:15they are not NDLA, they will now gather the youth, trying to go on, move, and follow these people.
18:25And in less than 10 minutes, Anika, he lost two, came and blocked the youth.
18:31And started spraying bullets off.
18:33I think we packed so many things, we have facts on ground.
18:44And then we have to look at the people, including those who are currently in the country.
18:47And then we have to go on, see if there is a plan.
18:48So we have to go on, and you look at the people who are going to come.
18:53And we are still going to go on.
18:57We have to look at the people, and that's the people who have to go on.
19:08Then some people came to attack us, and they said, where is the Christian inside the vehicle?
19:19I said, those people were looking too far back to look at me that are the Christian.
19:27This man, from glass, took glass lid, took a knife in the hand.
19:34Then, I now rushed. They now pulled me out of the vehicle.
19:41Because I saw that I was a black car driver, they pulled me out.
19:46These things, I said, the cordless, the radio machetes, different things they have.
19:51They have buttons. They drag me, carry stones, big stones, hit me.
19:59I reeled up, they released it.
20:01They hated me everywhere. They thought that I am dead.
20:06Then they left me. They left.
20:08Small time, I was able to wake up. I see them, they are disappear.
20:13I now started running, started running.
20:16They see that I started running, they followed me again second time.
20:20They fought, they talked to me, and I died second time.
20:24They left. I slept there for more than one hour.
20:29Later on, I now rescue a safety operation police.
20:34The other police came to rescue me where I slept.
20:44I know if I say this time, they will say I am encouraging violence.
20:48But to protect yourself, violence is the only way.
20:53I am telling you, if you can get knives, if you can get hunters gone, if you can get anything
21:01to protect your land.
21:02Protect your land.
21:04Don't listen to the government that they will come and help you.
21:07They will not.
21:09We will not.
21:09Anybody, you see, that is not from here.
21:12Anybody that looks suspicious, before they get you down, get them down.
21:19Listen to me.
21:24If you keep quiet and wait for the government, just.
21:28Nobody the first time it happened. Nobody the second time. Nobody the third time. Nobody the fourth time. Nobody the
21:35fifth. Nobody the sixth. We don't lose count. Nobody today starts. It don't pass 15 years. When do they keep
21:41people for just? Even before it starts when they get sense. They don't keep people for just. The question we
21:47ask the government is when does this stop?
21:49If you have no right to breathe, what right do you have? No!
21:58While people are fighting for elections and painting veins of Tanufu and everybody is worrying about APC, PDB, IPD, you
22:07are being killed.
22:09At what point will the people care about life? Islam says that I should be arrested by DSS. They say
22:16how can this person come here and speak?
22:18how can this person be allowed into nigeria can i tell you the only reason i'm here is because
22:24you guys are being killed yes and right now the nigerian christians do not have a voice
22:29you are being silenced and you are expected to comply with injustice but the lord does not only
22:35reserve justice for heaven justice is not only reserved for when jesus comes back yes justice
22:42has called christians to establish justice on this earth justice here and now not in five years
22:50not in 20 years now if you have no right to live
22:59and how long will we tolerate this my heart is with you that's why i'm here yes if there is
23:05no
23:05killing if there is no injustice i wouldn't be speaking now it pains me and it's shameful that
23:11i even have to speak and they want me to be silent they want me to not talk about what
23:18is happening i would rather die than be silent it's disgusting and when i was there last
23:31night there were roughly 11 or 12 bodies and by the time we come here today it's almost
23:34triple there's 30 people that were killed and it's pure evil and nobody's coming to defend
23:40them nobody's speaking out about how absolute evil was done by terrorists they only care about
23:46if someone's speaking the truth if someone's posting pictures if someone's there this is
23:50i don't i don't know how this can continue to be tolerated it's evil i can't even breathe
23:55in that room because of bodies corpses that are just
24:00we just came from where these people were killed we literally had to work on their blood they're
24:05showing us the sites exactly and um people were telling us what was happening all day yeah you said
24:11something that was profound the distance from the police station to the places people were killed
24:1620 meters i mean from here to there so how can the attack happen for an hour or 30 minutes
24:22however
24:22long they're killing killing shooting shooting killing people machete but then the police are
24:26nowhere to be found and they're all there today now in the uniform yeah they have their tank they're
24:31all dressed they're all equipped they're ready to go after the killing happens i'm sending a message
24:36to trump please at least just give us fractional american army with their drones to come to
24:51platos if not though many of us will continue to be losing losing lives
24:58with alex babel that is here he saw everything that was happening and the war will know
25:10bringing youth the news in a more digital way
