00:00Brian Schottenheimer. My prediction for the Cowboys season is that Sam Howe will be the backup to Dak Prescott.
00:10And man, Brian Schottenheimer seemed really, really excited yesterday.
00:13All these clips, by the way, courtesy of DallasCowboys.com.
00:17Mishota and Nick Harris also clipping them.
00:19Here's Shoddy on why they brought in the quarterback that had us all going, huh?
00:23You know, when Sam was the guy we watched the film, we were like,
00:27man, if we could have Sam Howe and Joe Milton on this football team and give those guys both a
00:32chance to compete.
00:33They're both uber talented. They both have big-time arm strength.
00:38Sam started actually 20-something games in this league, which is great.
00:42But yeah, it's an open competition. We're excited for both those guys to go.
00:46And you can never have enough quarterbacks to develop.
00:49And I think we developed the quarterback at a very high rate in our system and a chance to get
00:55a guy like Sam.
00:56And Sam was excited to come here, quite honestly, to be developed by us and the way we do it.
01:00So we should be good.
01:02So there's my prediction. I believe Sam Howe will overtake Joe Milton as the two.
01:07A little bit of factor cap.
01:09We develop quarterbacks very well in our system.
01:13Like, I don't know. Like, maybe...
01:14Romo, Dak.
01:15I don't think Romo and Dak is the system they're running today.
01:18Like, that's something in the past.
01:20Like, what we've seen is Trey Lance failed, and so far Joe Milton hasn't, like, clicked.
01:25Right.
01:25I don't know what example he's...
01:27Cooper Rush, I guess, is what he's pointing to?
01:29I don't know. My...
01:31I would not count that as a factual statement based upon who's been here with Shoddy as the offensive mind.
01:38Yeah, I don't know how I feel about Sam Howell as the backup.
01:43I don't...
01:43I don't like my backups to be safe.
01:47You know, I've got a...
01:49I want my backups to be, like, high floor, low...
01:53High ceiling, low floor.
01:56You know, someone that's a lotto ticket.
01:58I'm not interested in safe.
01:59Because I still go back to what Bobby has always said.
02:02You know, we don't practice effed.
02:04Yep, Tom Moore.
02:05Once the quarterback goes down, we're effed anyway.
02:08Yep, that's Tom Moore.
02:09I will say one of the...
02:10I disagree.
02:12If it's a one-off, then I get it.
02:14Well, give me the games.
02:15Give me the amount of games out.
02:17If it's one game out, I want a serviceable, you know.
02:21But, you know, I also think that...
02:2220 to 21.
02:24Dak gets hurt in the opening game and they have to play Cooper Rush for five weeks.
02:28I want Cooper Rush.
02:29As opposed to...
02:31Joe Milton.
02:32I want Sam Howell as opposed to Joe Milton.
02:35That's me.
02:36Keep me around.
02:37Keep me alive.
02:39If, you know, for when my guy comes back.
02:42And I would agree with that if the schedule works that way.
02:45If you're...
02:46The Cowboys had that stretch of the second half last year where they're playing good team
02:49after good team.
02:50In that situation, I don't want Cooper Rush.
02:53I want Cooper Rush against teams that I know were better than, that he's not going to screw
02:57it up.
02:58The teams that you know are better than you, I want that high-ceiling guy.
03:02Sam Howell has played two career games against the Vic Fangio-led Philadelphia Eagles, which
03:10is kind of going to be the standard for, hey, what are we doing here with our defense or
03:16what are we doing with our offense as we're trying to compete within the division, do different
03:20things like that.
03:20In his two career games against the Eagles, he and Vic Fangio's Eagles, 73% completion,
03:26687 yards, five touchdowns, one interception.
03:28Who's that?
03:28Sam Howell against the Eagles.
03:30Wow.
03:30And so, they may just look at it and go like, well, that's a guy who's going to keep us
03:33competitive.
03:34We can win with that.
03:36Like, if that's a guy who has not been thrown off by a Fangio defense and you're going to
03:40see a lot more of that across the NFL, hell, we're trying to do it over here, then let's
03:44go with that.
03:44High-ceiling is a nice, fun thing to say.
03:47It doesn't apply, really, to Trey Lance and Joe Milton.
03:50They're not going to go out there and have a 330-yard game.
03:54I'm not going to get the miracle Jason Garrett game against the Packers more often than not.
03:58They're not going to go out there and throw for 320 and three touchdowns.
04:01I'm betting against that.
04:03So, give me the safe, the safe, you know, and hopefully I have an improved defense.
04:08I want to stay around.
04:09I want to be able to hang around.
04:10Yeah.
04:11I mean, it's the, what we were talking about, the very first ask Reddit question.
04:16It's like, are all the best taken by 25?
04:19You're like, you're getting the peak looks at 25.
04:22Joe Milton, he looks great.
04:24Yeah.
04:25Joe Milton cannot cook worth a damn.
04:26So, that's the problem.
04:28Yep.
04:29Schottenheimer was asked, what is next for your offense?
04:31He said, evolve.
04:33We've got to evolve.
04:34We're looking at some different things.
04:35Maybe a little more two-back, letting Hunter Lipke do some things.
04:40I'm pleased with where we are, but because we were one of the best in the league, everyone
04:44is studying us, so we have to evolve.
04:46That means adding things and taking things out.
04:49So, that's shoddy on the offense.
04:51Yep.
04:51I mean, that's 100% makes sense.
04:54They cannot just rest on their laurels.
04:56I don't think the solution to that is, let's throw it to 4'9", 40-yard dash Hunter Lipke.
05:04Let's get him really involved.
05:05Let's do the Tavon Austin 20 touches a game.
05:07Is it really 4'9"?
05:08It's not 4'9", but it looks like it, man.
05:10It does not look, like, I don't think I would get dusted by him.
05:14He'd beat me in a 40-yard dash.
05:16I don't think I'm getting dusted.
05:17You would get dusted.
05:18I don't think so.
05:19All right, speaking of the offense, we need improvement from Tyler Guyton.
05:24He's the big X-factor name up front.
05:26Here's shoddy on where he needs to step up.
05:29Tyler Guyton's got a chance to be an elite player, but he's got to take that next step,
05:34and we have to help him take that next step, and that's through the process and the planning
05:37and having a very specific action plan of what we want to see him get better at.
05:42What is that action plan to get better?
05:43Yeah, it starts with his footwork, you know, getting more comfortable, getting more balanced
05:47at the point of attack, and then, again, there's his hand usage.
05:51You know, he's really a young, raw left tackle, you know, defensive lineman, right tackle in
05:58college, left tackle that's missed a bunch of times, so the biggest thing for him will
06:02be having a great, healthy offseason.
06:04How do you do that?
06:05Well, Luke Schoonmaker figured it out last year.
06:08He had a great plan leading up from February, March into the offseason program, and that's what
06:13Tyler Guyton's done thus far.
06:16If I told you they said they want to improve, they want to do these different things.
06:20If I said one of these three things could happen next year, which one are you taking
06:25on offense?
06:27You got Jake Ferguson, like, breaking out and really, like, coming on in a big way.
06:33You've got Jaden Blue figuring things out, and you get the whole thunder and lightning thing
06:38with Javante Williams and Jaden Blue, or, like, Tyler Guyton is a...
06:43Guyton.
06:44Tyler Guyton is an above-average...
06:46Guyton.
06:46Not even close.
06:47Not even close.
06:48Okay.
06:48Not even close.
06:48I feel the same.
06:49Above-average left tackle?
06:50Above-average left tackle.
06:52Not even Pro Bowl.
06:52Just, that's an above-average, solid left tackle that you can count on every week.
06:55It's great.
06:56That's what you gotta have.
06:57You gotta have that.
06:57You have that.
06:58Offensive line, this offensive line playing at the level that it was a couple of years
07:05ago, you know, obviously with different parts, but playing at that level, it's a game-changer
07:09for this franchise.
07:102-5-4 said, by the way, in the Tyler Guyton clip, said, no uhs from Shoddy in that answer.
07:15Call back to earlier.
07:17What else on the Tolos text and Pepe on the Franklin Frankel text line?
07:21Yeah, in regards to the same HAL discussion, 561 says anything is better than Joe Milton.
07:26817-201 says you're somewhat safe with Sam Howell because of your receivers, and the
07:31817 says that he agrees that Sam Howell should be the backup of this team.
07:37877-881-1053 in order to hit us up on DFW Sports Station.
07:42Shoddy said Christian Parker, a great coach at every level, but I think he's a superstar
07:47when it comes to the secondary, said that he and Osa both cried during their phone call
07:51after the San Francisco trade, quote, that's the nature of the business.
07:55I'm thrilled he's going to go to a place that is a great fit for him.
08:01And Shoddy also sat down with ESPN to do a little on-set interview, and he impressed
08:08them right off the jump because he was like one of the only people that didn't need to
08:12wear sunglasses.
08:13And Schottenheimer joining us here, and I want to first of all give you a compliment because
08:17so far you're in the minority.
08:18A lot of our coaches that have visited us have had to wear sunglasses.
08:21They can't deal with the pain of looking into the sun and the TV lights.
08:26You apparently are tougher than most.
08:28This is a true story, Laura.
08:29My father taught me as a young coach, coaches do not wear sunglasses.
08:34I love this.
08:35Wow.
08:35Please expand.
08:36Okay, so I was like, but we're in San Diego, right?
08:40And I'm like, well, it's bright outside.
08:41It's like the players have to see your eyes when you're coaching them.
08:45Tomlinson can wear the tinted visor, but you can't wear sunglasses?
08:48Hey, it's Marty Schottenheimer.
08:49I like that.
08:50But literally, honestly, true story.
08:52I was like, okay, makes sense.
08:53You know, because when you're correcting or criticizing, they're like, I want to see
08:58your eyes.
08:58Man.
08:59So it's pretty cool.
08:59The other coaches I let wear, but I'll never change.
09:02I love that.
09:03I do too.
09:03I guess I've built up toughness.
09:05I was trying to give you a compliment.
09:07I did not expect such an incredible answer to come out of that question.
09:09That was absolutely beautiful.
09:11Shots fired at George Seifert.
09:14Not allowed to have the sunglasses on, apparently.
09:16Maybe that's why he wasn't as successful as Bill Walsh.
09:18I always, the sunglasses question on set always reminds me of when I was doing NFL
09:23network producing and LaDainian Tomlinson was on set and he had sunglasses out and they're
09:26like, hey, LaDainian, can you take them off?
09:27And he said, no.
09:29And so then they called into my ear and they're like, can you find sunglasses for the other
09:32two?
09:33So they just all look uniform.
09:34I'm like, what?
09:34Wow.
09:35You guys can't just make him take off his sunglasses instead.
09:37It's just like, well, we can't tell LT what to do.
09:39So you go find two pairs of sunglasses for the others to wear.
09:41And did you?
09:42I was like, I don't have any.
09:43Y'all want me to walk away?
09:44No, no, I guess not.
09:46I actually think it's a unique take on his part.
09:48Like, does it matter?
09:49I don't know.
09:50I mean, it's not unique.
09:51It's Marty's take.
09:52It's Marty's take.
09:53It's, you know, he, but it's family, right?
09:55So that you could take ownership of said take because it's family.
10:00You know, Tom Landry had a unique rule like this.
10:02He did not allow his coaches to wear baseball hats.
10:06Like ever?
10:07Like, you know, like a lot of the coaches wear the hat with the D, the cowboy logo.
10:10Then a lot of those were baseball hats.
10:13We were a football team.
10:14So you could wear, like, a fedora.
10:16Well, I'd be like, we're not in a rodeo, coach.
10:18Yeah.
10:18Why are you wearing the hat?
10:19Well, that was a fedora, right?
10:20You could wear a fedora.
10:21Yeah.
10:21You could wear a cowboy hat.
10:23But you couldn't wear a baseball hat.
10:25But yeah, I actually like this from Marty.
10:26Tristan Hill arrested in Ellis County, the former cowboy, 28 years old, jail records show, according
10:36to Fox 4, he's been charged with assault of a pregnant person, Peyton, and interfering
10:42with an emergency request for assistance.
10:46Hill was arrested for two bond forfeiture warrants stemming from a 2025 criminal investigation, was
10:53booked in Waxahachie, and is being held on a $3,500 total bond.
10:58So, second round pick, Tristan Hill apparently still around here and allegedly doing really,
11:06really bad things, arrested in Ellis County for this assault of a pregnant person.
11:12Don't know that I've ever seen a football player less interested in playing football than Tristan Hill.
11:20That dude, that was Rod Marinelli's pick.
11:23Rod Marinelli, before his rookie season was up, had told people in the building, he's like,
11:27I can't do anything with him.
11:29He's a lost cause.
11:30Like, Rod Marinelli, rah, rah, like the guy that everybody connects with, had completely
11:34given up on Tristan Hill like eight weeks into his rookie year.
11:37He's like, yeah, that dude's a lost cause.
11:38Just could not care less about improving at all.
11:41Is a cowboy cheerleader in trouble?
11:44Because Eagles DB, Cooper Dijon, is apparently just running through it in his offseason.
11:50First, it was supposed to be Nikki Bella.
11:52Yeah.
11:52And that looked to be confirmed as she continues to desperately try to figure out someone that'll
11:58stick with her for over six months.
12:00And now Cooper Dijon is apparently dating cowboy cheerleader Abby Summers.
12:08Now, I know you're not supposed to fraternize with the players.
12:12Are you allowed to date other players?
12:15I would think so.
12:16How is this going to go over from Cowboy Nation and the fan base?
12:20I liked Kevin Walker's theory yesterday on KNC, which is, this is just how much Cooper
12:26Dijon misses Christian Parker.
12:27He's trying to get near him again.
12:29He doesn't want to lose that connection.
12:31And so I'm not a fan.
12:32He's going to extremes of trying to date Cowboys cheerleaders now.
12:36This guy's like not even, I can say when a man is good looking and attractive, this
12:40guy's not even great looking.
12:41How is he, how is he just, you know, well, I don't want to say yanking, but I did.
12:47How's he just going ahead and pulling all this game?
12:50I think, I don't know.
12:52I mean, I don't think he's a terrible looking guy.
12:54He's not terrible.
12:54Good looking head of hair.
12:56You know, decent smile.
12:58Obviously football player.
12:59That's going to add things.
13:01How do they meet?
13:02He looks like he's like 17.
13:03He does look young.
13:04He does look young.
13:05Where are they socializing?
13:06Where do they meet up?
13:07Is she like commuting from Philadelphia?
13:09That's a DM slide right there, I think.
13:12Might be a DM slide.
13:13Yeah.
13:14Makes the most sense.
13:15On his part.
13:16Ooh.
13:17I'm going to go his.
13:18I'm going to go his.
13:19I'm going to go on the e-pin.
13:20How do you, like, pick out a Cowboy cheerleader, though?
13:23That's a tough task.
13:23You probably watch the Netflix series.
13:25That is a tough task.
13:27That is a tough task.
13:29Will she catch heat?
13:31Will Cowboy fans be all up on her social pages for this?
13:34No.
13:35This is a good thing.
13:36You know, maybe you could steal the playbook.
13:38You never know, right?
13:39You can get some insider information.
13:40Yeah.
13:41What intel are you going to get from the cheerleaders?
13:42Meanwhile, she can get some intel on the Eagles.
13:45Yeah.
13:45I think she's going to catch some heat.
13:47I think she's going to catch some heat.
13:48This story has gotten out there.
13:50Was it the Bills player years ago that was dating one of the Cowboys cheerleaders and,
13:54like, scored a touchdown on Thanksgiving and, like, ran the ball over to her and she just
13:57had to, like, put her hands by her back, like, I'm not touching that?
