00:06Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we're counting down 13 horror games that have the best stories.
00:17Before we begin, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring the bell
00:23to get notified about our latest videos. 13. Dying Light the Beast
00:27While the Dying Light series has seen some rough patches here and there, Dying Light the Beast is
00:32very much a game worth every zombie fan's time. Kyle Crane, the protagonist of the very first game,
00:38makes his return, managing to escape the confines of a government facility. Now he must hunt down
00:43the man who imprisoned him, using his newfound zombie powers. Though shorter in playtime and
00:47smaller in scope, Dying Light the Beast is gripping from start to finish, between the dialogue, voice
00:52acting, and writing. Perhaps this more focused format will lead developer Techland and its prized
00:57IP into a brighter future. 12. The New Dawn
01:15Coming off of the explosive success of the Silent Hill 2 remake, Bloober Team launches their newest
01:20original game, and it is set in a dark and dismal world. Uplay is an unnamed being known as the
01:25Traveler,
01:26as she explores a decrepit version of Poland. Throughout her journey, she'll jump between
01:30different points before and after the dreaded event known only as the Change, when people were
01:35turned into grotesque monsters. It's a story that gets pretty brutal in both its visuals and its themes,
01:40so if you're a bit squeamish when it comes to intense imagery and horror, player discretion is advised.
01:5411. Silent Hill F
02:06Speaking of games that can be described as brutal, Silent Hill F is right up there when
02:10it comes to uncomfortable and disturbing visuals. Kinako finds her town has been consumed by a
02:15mysterious fog, and must now navigate an amalgamation of familiar settings and horrific
02:20fabrications of her imagination. Fair warning, you will have to play the game multiple times in
02:24order to get a full grasp of the story here. However, it is absolutely worth the extra effort,
02:29as every combat encounter is more fun than the last.
02:4010. Alien Isolation
02:42Samuels! You're alive! It's Ripley!
02:45Ripley! Taylor, it's Ripley. We were getting worried.
02:48I made it! Where are you?
02:50We're at a transit station now. It's right by medical.
02:53If you feel like Alien 3 was a failure of a sequel and wish there was something to maybe retcon
02:58that
02:58movie's existence, well, you're in luck because Alien Isolation is the Alien 3 we should have gotten,
03:04but in video game form. Alien Isolation takes place 15 years after the events of the original 1979
03:10film and puts you in the role of Amanda Ripley, Ellen's daughter. Having had no contact from her
03:16mother in who knows how long, Amanda travels to the mysterious Sevastopol space station only to find
03:22the station in shambles. Androids have malfunctioned into killing machines, while xenomorphs lurk around
03:27every single corner. Trust us when we say that every moment from this point forward is absolutely
03:32bone chilling and ends on an incredible note.
03:469. Alan Wake 2
03:58The original Alan Wake is still an incredibly fun game to play, with a story just as chilling as
04:04its sequel. The thing about Alan Wake 2, however, is just how mind-boggling it gets as you switch
04:09between Mr. Wake and FBI agent Saga Anderson. On the one hand, you're putting together an investigation
04:15into a ravenous cult. And on the other, you're witnessing the mystical powers of a typewriter,
04:20as Alan tries to push forward in writing his novel. It's weird, it's surreal, and it'll haunt
04:25you long after your initial playthrough. 8. Five Nights at Freddy's Into the Pit
04:46Based on the short story published in 2019, Five Nights at Freddy's Into the Pit may look like a cheap
04:52spin-off, but it arguably has the best story in the entire franchise. After his dad drops him off
04:58at the local derelict pizzeria, Oswald discovers a ball pit that transports him back to a different time,
05:03back when the pizzeria was alive and well. And it isn't long before things go horribly wrong,
05:08and soon, Oswald finds himself being hunted down by a murderous animatronic. Much like the source
05:14material, Into the Pit gets dark, depressing, and highly disturbing. There are some goofy moments
05:19with its self-deprecating humor, but overall, Into the Pit is a frightening story with a touching end
05:24that any player can appreciate. 7. Dead Space Remake
05:36Let's get some help. Johnston, stay with the Kelly. We'll send a medic. Everyone else, with me.
05:45Despite what some believe, this is not the same Dead Space we saw in 2008. If anything,
05:50it's a far better iteration. Just like in the original game, Isaac Clark must venture into the
05:55recesses of the Ishimura, a mining ship that has succumbed to a hostile species known as the Necromorphs.
06:01Isaac's mental fortitude will be put to the test as he witnesses more viscera and deranged events
06:06than any human should ever have to. You'll even watch his relationships with other characters
06:10deteriorate as he uncovers mysterious alien artifacts dubbed Markers. There's even a new ending
06:16that ties in the game with Dead Space 2, so you can jump into that as soon as you're finished
06:20with the remake. 6. Signalis
06:42When she awakens from her chamber, an android named Elster discovers her assigned ship is crashed,
06:47with the crew seemingly gone. But in her efforts to track down the human pilot, Elster quickly learns
06:52that she may be the only living crew member of the ship as she encounters hostile beings.
06:57Signalis is a sci-fi horror game unlike any other. While its gameplay is very clearly inspired by the
07:03old Resident Evil games, the story of Signalis paints a haunting picture as its themes explore the
07:08concept of identity within oneself and the desire to connect with others. Don't let the PS1-style
07:14graphics fool you here, this one is definitely not for the faint of heart.
07:275. SOMA
07:28So what exactly are we doing? We're going to do a scan of your brain,
07:33then we build a computer model of it and bombard it with stimuli.
07:37While we're on the subject of human life in a sci-fi world, SOMA remains to be one of the
07:41most
07:42memorable horror games of the 2010s. Having suffered from a near-death car accident, Simon
07:46Jarrett is kept alive by an underwater facility named Pathos 2, moments before an awful accident
07:51occurred. What happened to cause the whole place to become abandoned? Where has everyone gone to?
07:56And why was Simon left behind? We don't want to go any deeper than that, because SOMA is best
08:01played with as little knowledge as possible.
08:03That wasn't so bad. SOMA really got me worked up, bastard. What? How did I get here?
08:124. Resident Evil 4 Remake
08:14You're welcome.
08:18Thanks.
08:20The original Resident Evil 4 was fantastic in its gameplay and narrative, but the remake does it
08:25all so much better. After the events of Resident Evil 2, Leon Kennedy has landed himself a promotion,
08:31graduating from rookie cop to US federal agent. His mission this time, save the president's
08:36daughter. Yes, there are still plenty of corny moments here, just like in the original.
08:40What makes RE4's remake better than the OG, though, is how it paces everything out properly,
08:45and gives characters like Ashley more depth as they try to escape the plague-infected Spanish village.
08:50It isn't as absurd as the original game, but we appreciate the remake's ability to stay grounded
08:56in its own ways.
08:57Cease your pointless struggling. Abandon your body to the will of our God.
09:06You're a shitty missionary. You know that.
09:083. Until Dawn
09:09Alright. Well, hello, friends and fans. It's beyond awesome to have you guys all back this year.
09:17While older PlayStation fans may point players to the Siren games, which are great,
09:22Until Dawn is our top recommendation when it comes to PlayStation-exclusive horror games.
09:27After an embarrassing prank pulled by their group of friends, two sisters are killed in a terrible
09:31accident on a snowy mountain. And one year later, that same group reunites, only to find that things
09:37are more sinister on the mountain as reports of a pyromaniac have begun to stir. Admittedly,
09:42the dialogue can get cringe-inducing at times, to say the least. Even so, Until Dawn does get better
09:47as you try to piece together the psycho's identity and endure an interrogation from psychiatrist Dr.
09:52Alan Hill, played by Peter Stormar, who is arguably the best part of the whole game.
09:57Think you can get each character to survive until dawn?
09:59Hey, wow. Man, I'm really sorry, Ash. Damn.
10:02It's okay. It's fine. It's fine.
10:04Number 2. Mouthwashing
10:11When their ship malfunctions and crashes into uncharted territory, the five crew members find
10:16themselves trapped within the very confines of their now derelict ship. Even more alarming is the
10:21fact that all key resources to maintain their survival are now inaccessible, save for one package
10:27containing bottles of, and you might have guessed it, mouthwash. We don't want to spoil any more of the
10:31story, but believe us when we say mouthwashing is one of the most disturbing horror games we have
10:36played in recent years, with its trippy visuals and stomach-churning sound design. If you own a PC,
10:41you need to go and play this right now.
10:55Number 1. Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 2 Remake
11:10Enter the eerie, foggy town of Silent Hill as a man searches for his long-lost wife,
11:16having only her letter to go off from. That is the story setup of Silent Hill 2, and regardless if
11:21you
11:21play the original or the remake, it is the best story you will ever experience in a video game.
11:26From the odd characters you'll meet along the way, to the morbidly bizarre creatures you'll have to
11:30defend yourself from, Silent Hill 2 is not only one of the best horror games ever made,
11:34but one of the best video games ever made, because of how captivating its environments and story arc.
11:40If you have not experienced this for yourself, it's time to stop watching YouTube for a bit,
11:44and go play Silent Hill 2, you really owe it to yourself.
11:47I hope you find them.
11:50Yeah, you too.
11:52Which horror game do you think has the best story? Did it make our list?
