00:00Okay, so I think there's something up there and it is not gonna make me jump
00:07I can promise you that much welcome to mojo plays and today we're looking at
00:11moments from recent horror games that left us absolutely petrified with fear
00:26But before we dive in we publish new content all week long
00:29So be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to get notified about our latest videos
00:35Hall B. Kronos the New Dawn
00:51The mutated humans known as orphans in Kronos the New Dawn come in a variety of disgusting shapes
00:57But honestly one of the game's most terrifying moments comes when you're in far less danger than you think you
01:03are
01:03At a certain point you'll enter Hall B where you'll find a group of orphans in a quarantine bay
01:08An incredibly tight space filled with both good loot and some freaky foes
01:13While you might think you're in for a fight that only happens if you go in guns blazing
01:17And it'll be a tense one in reality developer bloober team took the opportunity to mess with us
01:23You can get through this without fighting anyone sneaking around the orphans to collect items is clearly stressful
01:29Make too much noise or get too close and you might regret it
01:45The barn
01:46Re-animal
01:47Coming from the team behind Little Nightmares you probably know what to expect from Re-animal
01:52Mostly gigantic twisted behemoths chasing you around trying to eat you
01:57At one point you'll come across a barn full of pigs
02:00And in the back you'll witness the much larger leader swallowing a little pig whole before commanding you to leave
02:07While it isn't a tense chase it is an unholy combination of visual and audio design
02:12That sent a chill straight through us
02:14Plus players get their tense chase when they're forced to return later
02:18Fleeing from a giant pelican
02:20This takes you back to the barn where you only escape after barring the door behind you
02:25And letting all the animals burn inside
02:33Chased by Trotz
02:35Still wakes the deep
02:43A key feature of survival horror is the chase scene so be prepared to see a few of those
02:48In still wakes the deep a group of oil rig workers accidentally awaken something in the ocean
02:54Which causes most of them to mutate into nightmares out of John Carpenter's The Thing
02:59One of the unfortunate crew members is Trotz who provides the game's scariest moment
03:04Players encounter him in a laundry room mumbling about the mess
03:07An unsettling combination of the remaining humanity and the monstrosity
03:11Of course once he spots you
03:13He chases you around the room trying to turn you
03:16Trotz provides another good scare later pursuing you down a claustrophobic vent
03:22Jesus
03:27Cleanse the Orphans
03:29The Outlast Trials
03:31Wakey wakey my little angels
03:33Let's all enjoy some angel dust
03:37So we're ready to seize the day
03:40While there are definitely more violent missions in the Outlast Trials
03:44This one managed to get under our skin with less gore
03:48A big part of what helps is the location
03:50An extremely creepy orphanage run by the nasty mother Gooseberry
03:55Where all of the children are mannequins
03:57Players are meant to accomplish certain tasks to influence the orphans
04:02Stopping them from taking drugs and helping them see the light of god
04:06All the while it implements the popular formula of previous Outlast games
04:10Gooseberry and her minions hunt you while you try to complete the mission
04:14And all you can do is run and hide once they give chase
04:18Chug it out of you
04:22Oh, that's right
04:25Emma's Risky Swim
04:27The Quarry
04:29Goodbye cruel world
04:30The final curtain is calling and there's no time for an encore
04:33In chapter 4 of The Quarry, new camp counselor Emma decides to go for a swim out to a small
04:39nearby island
04:40Unfortunately for her, she's alone in a horror game
04:44We know an attack is coming and the developers do a good job
04:48Luring you into a false sense of security as Emma films herself and explores the nearby areas
04:53Of course, a werewolf does eventually pop out
04:56Terrifying both her and us and leading to one of the tensest chases in the game
05:01With so many quick time events, you have more chances to die here than with most other scenarios
05:06And in each one where the werewolf catches her, it's pretty gruesome
05:11It's made even more disturbing if, towards the end of the game, said werewolf Max finds her body
05:16and realizes what he's done
05:18Encountering Blue Knees
05:20Madison
05:21This indie psychological trip takes inspiration from Fatal Frame
05:25With the main mechanic revolving around using the camera to see into the spirit world
05:29You naturally see some fairly spooky things
05:32But nothing quite compares to encountering Blue Knees
05:35The design is pretty alarming
05:37The pale gangliness
05:39The sharp teeth with blood around its smile
05:41The pitch black eyes you have to flash with the camera for safety
05:45But it's also a genuinely chilling part of the story
05:48Blue Knees is a demon attached to a children's book
05:51Which haunted your character's grandmother, stealing her sight before killing her
05:55In order to escape, you have to search for the demon's eyes
05:58While actively listening to one of the creepiest theme songs we've ever heard
06:15Experiencing a blackout
06:17Amnesia the Bunker
06:27Much like other games in the series, the premise of Amnesia the Bunker is that you're alone
06:32With a monster hunting you
06:33Depending on your playstyle and the given area you're in
06:37This monster can react in different ways
06:39Although exact moments can vary from player to player
06:42There's one universal, terrifying thing that everyone has to endure
06:47And that is a blackout
06:49As you work towards your escape
06:51You're constantly aware of the limited amount of fuel in your generator
06:54Once it runs out, you have to refuel it in the dark
06:58With the monster stalking you only able to use a noisy wind-up flashlight
07:02Even once you refuel, there's still a limited amount in the game
07:06Once it's all gone, it's lights out until you can reach the end
07:10The Valhalla Nursing Home
07:12Alan Wake 2
07:16It's a waiting room for visitors, you know
07:18I was just getting the...
07:21Oh
07:22Saga?
07:23Anytime a game blends the elderly with forcing us to go into a dark basement, it tends to be pretty
07:29terrifying
07:29Things only seem a little off when Saga arrives at the Valhalla nursing home
07:34Looking for a couple of residents
07:36It's a slow burn, but it's a masterclass in immersion and building tension
07:40From the encounter inside the wellness center
07:43To searching through the nursing home in the pitch black darkness
07:46Rimini did a great job covering the atmosphere in Dread
07:50Of course, it's when we head to the basement to restore power when the level reaches
07:54It's Crescendo
07:55The fight against Cynthia Weaver with her demonic voice echoing through the area as she flies around
08:01Is one of the game's best moments
08:04Tor, wait!
08:10Cynthia Weaver, I know it's you!
08:13The Middle School, Silent Hill F
08:20The latest entry in the Silent Hill series more than proved it still had the expertise to scare the bejesus
08:26out of us
08:27The abandoned middle school is a strong standout, relying on the tried and true method of creepy kids
08:33In order to progress through the inside, you must occasionally head outside to find a key or some such
08:39Where an expected nasty monster will be lurking
08:43But eventually, this feeling of having a safe haven will be taken away from you
08:47At a certain point on the second floor, scarecrows suddenly appear
08:51Not only do these monsters take on the form of undead children
08:55They move when you aren't looking at them
08:57Some are fakes too, and it's hard to tell them apart until you're within arm's reach
09:10If you love games, be sure to check out WatchMojo's new game, Terrible Influence
09:15Just launched for purchase at TerribleInfluence.com

09:35Meeting the girl, Resident Evil Requiem
09:38What is this?
09:42Hey! Help!
09:44We've talked about a few games where you're chased helplessly by some imposing, horrifying figure
09:50But Resident Evil is the king of that
09:53As Grace comes to after being abducted, she tries to figure out exactly where she's been taken to
09:59Sadly for her, lurking in the dark is something vicious
10:03The girl is a tremendous monster
10:05The hulking stature, the freakish design, her movement animations, those unsettling noises she makes
10:12It's all incredible
10:13And of course, being the start of the game, Grace has nothing to defend herself with
10:19Requiem obviously has a whole lot of scary moments
10:22And although it's early, meeting the girl is just such a terrific display of Capcom's craftsmanship
10:36Hey, over here
