05:28Let's go to Luke chapter 7.
05:32The Greek word thomazo means to be stunned, to be shocked for your jaw to hit the floor, to be
05:45in a state of shock.
05:46Thomazo is the Greek word.
05:49And it's only used twice for the Lord Jesus.
05:54It only happened twice in his ministry.
05:57I'm sure it happened a lot more than that, but it's only recorded twice.
06:03Luke chapter 7 and Mark chapter 6.
06:06In Mark chapter 6, Jesus goes back to his hometown.
06:14He can't wait to see all of his old friends, the old synagogue, his relatives.
06:20He's going to hold a massive healing and deliverance service.
06:25It's going to be the greatest thing in the world.
06:28And he gets back there, and nobody believes him.
06:33He can't believe it.
06:38And the Greek word thomazo is used to describe it.
06:42His mouth hits the floor.
06:45He cannot believe.
06:48Nobody believes him.
06:52They start questioning him.
06:56Hey, your dad had a work, you know, woodshop here.
07:00Remember that?
07:01You were, your brothers are here.
07:02Your sisters are here.
07:04Who do you think you are?
07:05Who are you?
07:06Man, it was, he was stunned.
07:09Well, Jesus was famazzo again in Luke chapter 7.
07:17Here it is.
07:18When Jesus ended all of his sayings,
07:22the audience of the people, he entered Capernaum.
07:25Now, Capernaum was his, his second home.
07:29He was raised in Nazareth.
07:31And then when he entered the ministry,
07:33after he was baptized by the great John the Baptist,
07:37he moved to Capernaum.
07:40That was his headquarters until he, until his death.
07:45And it says there, certain centurion servant who was dear to the centurion was sick and close to death.
07:58Verse 3.
07:59And when he heard of Jesus, he sent to him the elders of the Jews,
08:08begging him that he would come heal his servant.
08:13He sent in an entourage.
08:16Now, the Jews did it because, believe it or not, the Jews liked this guy.
08:23They hated Roman soldiers because they were occupiers.
08:29But this guy was not a normal occupier.
08:33He actually had faith in Jehovah, the Hebrew God.
08:39And it says that he was actually a friend of the Jews,
08:44and he was also wealthy.
08:51And he built them a synagogue.
08:54So the Jews liked this guy.
08:56He was their buddy.
09:00So the Jews come to Jesus, verse 4,
09:03and they say to him,
09:04Hey, this is a good guy here.
09:10He wants you to come pray for his servant,
09:16and you should do it because he's our friend.
09:20He loves our nation.
09:22He built us a synagogue.
09:24Well, that got Jesus' attention real quick.
09:28He said, Well, that's an unusual situation.
09:31I've never heard of that before.
09:33So Jesus goes, Okay, let's go for it.
09:37And Jesus went with them, verse 6.
09:41And while he was quite a ways away from the centurion's home,
09:47another entourage comes up.
09:51And they said, Lord, you don't need to come all the way to the house.
09:58You don't need to see my servant.
10:03You don't need to come under my roof.
10:09In fact, I didn't even consider it worthy enough to come right up to you and ask.
10:17I sent you words.
10:19I sent you an entourage, two of them.
10:25Why don't you come?
10:28I'm not worthy to go stand in your presence.
10:35Why don't you come?
10:35Could you just come?
10:37And I know how this works.
10:40He says, I am a man under authority.
10:43Somebody's over me.
10:44I'm here.
10:45These people are over here.
10:48Right?
10:48Now, centurion was the captain of a hundred Roman soldiers.
10:56And so, that group he was in charge of.
11:00And he knew there was a general in charge of him.
11:06He understood how authority works.
11:11He understood the levels of authority.
11:14He was an expert on it.
11:19He says, I am told what to do.
11:21Somebody tells me to go here.
11:23I go there.
11:23Somebody tells me to go over here.
11:24I go over there.
11:26Well, I do it the same.
11:27People under me.
11:30I tell them to go over here.
11:32They go.
11:33I tell them to go over there.
11:35They go.
11:36Everybody goes.
11:40No problem.
11:42That's how authority works.
11:47It's the chief executive officer.
11:51Chief operating officer.
11:53Chief financial officer.
11:56Executive vice presidents.
11:58Vice presidents.
12:00Regional directors.
12:02Regional district manager.
12:03District manager.
12:05Supervisor.
12:09The earthly realm works under authority.
12:11The heavenly realm works under authority.
12:15Same thing.
12:18Yeah.
12:19It's all the same thing.
12:23Then, here it is.
12:24Thamazo.
12:25Verse 9.
12:26Luke 7.
12:28When Jesus heard these things,
12:31he marveled.
12:33Thamazo.
12:37His eyes weren't like saucers.
12:40His mouth hit the floor.
12:43He's looking around
12:45at the disciples.
12:49Mouth open.
12:54He's looking around.

13:01such great faith
13:05anywhere in Israel.
13:22What was he teaching us here?
13:27There's authority levels in heaven.
13:31And then there's authority levels on earth.
13:40When Jesus was on the earth,
13:42he was the highest form of authority
13:45known to man.
13:48When he went to heaven,
13:50he transferred that authority
13:51to
13:54you.
14:02Later on in Luke,
14:03he said what?
14:05Behold,
14:05I give you
14:06power to tread on scorpions
14:08and serpents
14:09and over all the power
14:11of the enemy.
14:12Nothing shall
14:13by any means hurt you.
14:17These signs
14:18shall follow
14:19those who believe.
14:20In my name,
14:21they shall
14:25cast out demons.
14:27They shall lay hands
14:28on the sick.
14:31They shall recover.
14:33What was he doing there?
14:37Transferring his authority
14:39when he went to heaven
14:41to
14:44you.
14:50Jesus told the centurion,
14:52go on home.
14:56Your servants well.
14:59What was Jesus doing?
15:00Well, he was exercising
15:02his authority
15:03over
15:03the spirit world.

15:40his sisters,
15:41hey, I'm back home.
15:42I love you.
15:45Let's have a big celebration.
15:49He gets there
15:50and he can't believe it.
15:52His family doesn't believe.
15:59The people of Nazareth
16:00don't believe
16:01that grew up with him,
16:02his friends,
16:03people who went
16:04to school with him.
16:05old customers
16:06that came to the
16:07wood shop
16:08with his dad.
16:11They said,
16:12who do you think
16:13you are?
16:14Jesus' eyes
16:15got like saucers.
16:16His mouth
16:17hit the floor.
16:19He's looking around
16:20to his disciples again.
16:23Famanso,
16:24stunned.
16:29God is utterly amazed
16:33when we
16:35don't believe
16:37and when we
16:39believe with no doubt.
16:41He has the same reaction.
16:52His same reaction.
17:04people who believe
17:06with no doubts
17:08routinely
17:09see miracles.
17:13In fact,
17:16they get used to them.
17:22they start to take
17:27them for granted.

17:34they lose them.

18:48nothing ever happens.

18:52you know,
18:53miracles happen
18:53to other people.
18:54They don't happen
18:55to me.
18:57They don't happen
18:59it's human nature.

19:04I've been a counselor
19:05for over 40 years.
19:06I'm an expert
19:07on human nature.
19:07Humans is all I know.
19:09That's all I've done.
19:10People is all
19:10I've ever had
19:12in my
19:14wheelhouse.
19:16It's human nature.
19:21It's simple psychology,
19:23actually.
19:23Systematic
19:24desensitization.
19:25We've gone over
19:26that before.
19:27If you do something
19:28over and over again,
19:30human nature

19:33takes it for granted.
19:35Well,
19:36those faith healers
19:36I just mentioned,
19:37all four of them,
19:39ended up badly.
19:40Things went bad
19:41for them.

19:45lost his healing ministry,
19:46went into
19:47all kinds
19:48of crazy
19:50ministries,
19:51got into
19:52prosperity,
19:53all kinds
19:53of kooky stuff.
19:55When he retired,
19:56he was $40 million
19:57in debt.
19:57He dumped
19:58everything onto
20:00his son
20:00and ran for the hills.

20:05died of
20:06in a hotel room
20:07in San Francisco
20:10full of whiskey,
20:12I guess.

20:35What happened?
20:37They had seen
20:38so many miracles,
20:39they started to,
20:40they kind of
20:41all took it all
20:42for granted.

20:52people like that
20:53don't do that.
20:58They don't do that.
20:59They see all
20:59these miracles
21:00and they never
21:01take them
21:02for granted.

21:04able to
21:05spiritually,

21:08emotionally
21:09keep that
21:10childlike
21:11faith
21:12freshness
21:15with
21:16spiritual
21:16things.
21:19Christians
21:19who are in
21:19bondage
21:20and live
21:20in bondage
21:21take miracles
21:22for granted.
21:23That's why
21:23they're failures.
21:28They take
21:29bad things
21:29for granted
21:30too.
21:30You know,
21:30I've been
21:31sick,
21:31my grandparents
21:32were sick,
21:33my great-grandparents
21:33were sick.
21:34You know what,
21:35I'm an addict,
21:35but my dad
21:36was an addict,
21:37so was grandpa,
21:38so was my mother.
21:43Oh,
21:43I got heart
21:44disease.
21:44You know,
21:44everybody in my
21:45family had
21:45heart disease.
21:46My grandma
21:47died of a
21:47heart attack,
21:48so did grandpa,
21:49great-grandma.
21:52I guess it's
21:53my turn.
21:55Famadzo.
21:59Stunned.
22:00Nobody believed
22:01in Nazareth.
22:03The centurion
22:03had faith
22:05that was
22:06unshakable.
22:09Stunned.

22:16in Jesus'
22:17ministry,
22:18it's recorded
22:18in the Bible
22:19that he was
22:20shocked.
22:23And you
22:24would have
22:25thought for

22:29the Jews

22:30Romans at
22:31Calvary.
22:32You would
22:32have thought
22:32for sure
22:33that would
22:33have generated
22:34some kind
22:34of a shock.

22:40the term
22:41wasn't
22:41used.
22:43After his
22:44resurrection,
22:45he suddenly
22:45appears with
22:46all the
22:46disciples,
22:48all 11 of
22:49them.
22:49Doubting
22:50Thomas was
22:51there.

22:55didn't he?
22:56Yeah,
22:56he just took
22:56them for
22:57granted.
22:57He saw
22:58every miracle
22:58in the book,
23:00literally every
23:01miracle in the
23:01book.
23:02He saw
23:03Lazarus raised
23:04from the
23:04dead after
23:04being dead
23:05four days.
23:05That's
23:06impossible.
23:07That's a
23:08Red Sea
23:08miracle.

23:09ridiculous.
23:10He was
23:11standing right
23:11there and
23:11saw it.
23:15Jesus had
23:16only been
23:16gone three
23:16days.

23:22up with it.

23:26in miracles

23:27very doubting,

23:35naturally,
23:35the glass

23:42half full.
