Iran wary of diplomacy with the US amid reports of planned ground offensive

Iran's parliament speaker said on Sunday that the US is publicly engaging in diplomatic efforts while "secretly planning a ground attack". His comments came shortly after reports in US media that the Trump administration is planning a weeks-long ground offensive.

00:01Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohamed Bagher Qalibaf accused the U.S. of hiding behind
00:05diplomatic efforts as they secretly plot a ground attack in Iran on Sunday.
00:10In a message broadcast on Iranian state TV, Qalibaf defiantly added that Tehran is awaiting
00:16the arrival of U.S. soldiers to, quote, set them on fire and punish their regional allies
00:21once and for all.
00:23His claim came amid reports in U.S. media that the Trump administration is planning
00:27a week's-long ground offensive.
00:30The senior Iranian lawmaker made the comments on Sunday as Pakistan hosted top diplomats
00:34of regional powers, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, to discuss ways to end the war.
00:40Pakistan, which emerged as a possible mediator, has delivered to Iran a list of Washington's
00:46demands, which Tehran rejected and countered with a list of its own.
00:50The efforts come as attacks on Iran persist, and Tehran's retaliatory strikes continue to
00:55target the wider region.
00:56Residents of the Iranian capital reported heavy strikes in the early hours of Sunday,
01:01as sirens sounded across Israel warning of imminent attacks.
01:05The war has so far killed over 1,900 in Iran, 1,100 in Lebanon, 20 in Israel, and 13
01:12U.S.
01:13soldiers posted in the region.
01:14Thousands of others have been injured.
