US and Iran agree to two-week truce after Trump pulls back on threats

Trump said he was holding off on his threatened attacks on Iranian bridges and power plants, as the US and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire that includes the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

00:01The United States and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire late on Tuesday as U.S. President
00:08Donald Trump held off on his threatened attacks on Iranian bridges and power plants in a deal
00:14that includes the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Iran's Supreme National Security Council
00:20said it has accepted the ceasefire and that it would negotiate with the United States in Islamabad
00:25beginning Friday. Neither Iran nor the United States said when the ceasefire would begin,
00:31and even as it was announced, missile alerts continued across the Gulf and Israel,
00:36and Israel kept up its strikes on Iran. Israel said it also agreed to the ceasefire but added
00:43that it does not include Lebanon, contradicting statements from Pakistan's Prime Minister,
00:48a key mediator, that Israel and Hezbollah would also cease their fighting.
00:53Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragji said passage through the Strait of Hormuz would be allowed
00:59under Iranian military management. It wasn't immediately clear whether that meant Iran would
01:04completely loosen its chokehold on the waterway. In addition to control of the Strait, Iran's
01:11demands for ending the war include withdrawal of U.S. combat forces from the region,
01:15the lifting of sanctions and the release of its frozen assets.
