Army chief warns of major gaps in Switzerland's air defence

Benedikt Roos, the new chief of Switzerland's armed forces, said on Thursday he was not "optimistic" about his country's aerial defence capabilities, adding that significant investment is needed to boost security.

00:06defenses against potential drone attacks, such as those being used in the war in the Middle East.
00:41The assessment comes as the Swiss government prepares to boost its defense spending,
00:46focused on expanding ground-based aerial defense, protection against drones and additional
00:51cyberspace capabilities. The army chief says there are two main priorities.
01:00It's a response to hybrid threats. It begins with cyber attacks in the space of information.
01:07And the second is against the threat of large distance.
01:11Earlier this month, Switzerland and the EU also said they planned to deepen cooperation
01:16on security and defense, including the exchange of information in areas ranging from Ukraine
01:21to the Middle East.
