00:00I'm bummed to see you go.
00:02You know, it was so fun to watch you come back.
00:04We'll get into how I wanted to see more of you.
00:06We'll discuss that a little bit later.
00:07How are you just doing overall now that, you know,
00:10your journey has come to an end on season 50?
00:12You know, I'm really surprised that the press is not wearing black today.
00:16I don't know what's going on.
00:17This is a day of mourning.
00:18We all should have been in unison wearing black.
00:20Put a diva down on the field.
00:21Two divas down, okay?
00:22Me and Charlie.
00:23What's going on?
00:24No, I'm kidding.
00:25I am doing great.
00:27I'm happy to be here.
00:29I love chatting with you guys and talking about this game
00:32and what went right, what went wrong.
00:35And, you know, I'm okay.
00:37I'm good.
00:38I have a lot to look forward to.
00:40So I'm doing well.
00:41You know, you say what went right, what went wrong,
00:44but it felt like you were kind of on the outs from the very, very beginning.
00:47That Vatu tribe, and then obviously when the swap happened,
00:50you seemed to be in a good spot, but everything kind of unraveled.
00:52Let's start from the beginning.
00:53Why could you not get into a good spot on that original Vatu tribe?
00:57Yes.
00:57I mean, my whole game, I felt like it was just a big false start.
01:01Like, it was not for lack of trying,
01:04even though it looks like I was just kind of, you know, modeling on the beach.
01:07I was really trying to build some relationships.
01:10Like, I was open to business with everyone.
01:12I loved everyone.
01:13I was connecting.
01:14You know, okay, so here's the rub.
01:17So I think a couple things were going on.
01:18I think, one, there was some talk before the game started that I was, like, super well-connected,
01:25like, more so than other people, and that that was threatening,
01:30was that I was very well-connected to a lot of different people, especially Mike, of course,
01:34but others, I guess, too.
01:35The other thing that was said was that I was targeting old school, which is not true.
01:43I think that was just someone started a fake rumor.
01:46So I think that kind of turned some people sour on me before we even flew out.
01:50And then, of course, the ghost of Angelina past, I think, haunted me a little bit,
01:55where some people could not see past the edit of the first time I played.
02:00And I tried to, you know, I tried to fight that as much as I could by showing up as
02:06myself,
02:06by showing up with kindness, with joy, working hard during challenges,
02:11not being, you know, being just not chaotic, just being, towing that party line, you know,
02:17and just being cool.
02:19I was just trying to be cool, you know.
02:21And despite my best efforts to literally be under the radar, you know, I couldn't hide it.
02:28They wanted me.
02:29They just kept coming for me.
02:30I was like, I'm just chilling, you guys.
02:33You're harmless.
02:34What are you going to do to that?
02:35I'm so harmless.
02:36I was literally, and they made me look like, oh, my gosh, that was so crazy.
02:40Last night, I was like, oh, I'm like, bottom of the barrel right now.
02:43I was like, I was like, crying for me.
02:46I was like, this is sad.
02:48When the swap happens, of course, we get the David versus Goliath trio back together.
02:52I think everyone even just fans from, you know, knowing what your life is like off the show
02:56knows that you and Mike are very close.
02:58And I think there was a lot of interest about what you guys would be like with Christian.
03:01From your perspective, how did you think the three of you would vibe once you all landed on the tribe
03:05together?
03:06I was, you know, I'm an eternal optimist.
03:09So I was like, can we do something?
03:11You know, I know that there, you know, Christian and I, you know, we're not, the linchpin was Mike.
03:17Christian and I have had, we have history.
03:19We have history.
03:20Like, I went for him immediately at the merge at David versus Goliath.
03:24I was the first and most vocal voice being like, this guy's got to go.
03:28Like, he's too, and it was, it was all out of a place of admiration.
03:31Like, he's too good.
03:32You know, everyone loves him.
03:33And the Bertrachas protected him.
03:34And anyways, we don't need to rehash all of that.
03:36But that's to say that, like, Christian had every right to take me out.
03:39Like, I, Christian owes me nothing.
03:42But Mike, on the other hand, he and Christian had a very long and deep relationship of many years.
03:51And then Mike and I, on the other hand, as, you know, close as well.
03:54And so Mike was the bridge.
03:55And the first day on that swap, I talked to Mike and I said, are you completely sure that Christian's
04:01with you?
04:03Because if he's not, he has the ability to just completely derail us.
04:08And did they show that?
04:09No.
04:09But I did have that conversation with Mike.
04:11And Mike was positive.
04:13He was like, no, there's no way.
04:14Not till later, like, let's just help each other get further in.
04:18Like, let's kind of have some, you know, some power in numbers while we can.
04:24And so that was the hope.
04:26In the back of my mind, I was wary.
04:28I was worried.
04:29But I trusted Mike.
04:30And Mike trusted him.
04:31And so by transitive property, we moved forward together.
04:34So now that all these months have passed, do you just chalk it up to Christian wanted revenge?
04:38Did he want to be the one to take out the White Lotus creator, Mike White?
04:42Was that it?
04:43I think only Christian can truly answer that.
04:45I mean, I can speculate.
04:46But I think that the season and playing again meant a lot to Christian.
04:54I think that's evident in how he's playing.
04:59I know that he had a plan of attack.
05:02A lot of what he did was very premeditated.
05:06I mean, he was talking to himself in his room.
05:07We shared a wall.
05:08I mean, he was literally rehearsing lines that he was going to say.
05:12I could hear him through the wall.
05:14And I was like, OK, like a little weird.
05:16But like, OK, to each their own.
05:18Like, you know, I don't know.
05:19And so but then looking back on it and kind of piecing it all together, I'm like, oh, he
05:23he really was really planning on his approach and his game and who he was going to get and
05:30what he was going to say.
05:31And actually, I swear to you, I one of the nights I heard him talking, he was talking
05:38about all the ways that you can split a vote at different numbers.
05:42Wow.
05:42That is funny now.
05:44Not funny, but it's interesting now, given that he did that three, two, one.
05:47Yeah.
05:47Because I think in his, you know, in his survivor heart, he was like, oh, I really want to do
05:52a three, two, one.
05:53Like, it's a cool move.
05:54You know what I mean?
05:54And but I think with Mike, yeah, I mean, who knows?
05:58I mean, ask him that.
05:59See what he says.
06:00I would be very curious to know what his true intention was.
06:02But I think what he tried to explain to me out there was that it was a liability to have
06:07Mike.
06:09Which is easy to say when you've voted Mike out already.
06:12Of course.
06:12I mean, there's different theories.
06:14I think I think he was he was playing by a different set of rules, not a different set
06:21of rules.
06:21I think that this is what makes Survivor so compelling.
06:25We're all playing by our own set of rules and by our own priorities.
06:29And I think me and Mike's priorities were very different than Christian's.
06:33And he chose to prioritize the game over a real friendship, whereas Mike is one of the
06:38most loyal people you'll ever meet.
06:40And, you know, and and and so those priorities came into conflict.
06:45Were there any other interesting tidbits that you overheard, Christian, during this like
06:49pregame interaction that you had from afar or anything else?
06:53Well, it wasn't an interaction.
06:54He was we were all like you overheard and we had a shared wall.
06:58And so I just heard him talking to himself out loud.
07:00At first, I thought he was talking to someone else.
07:01Like, is someone in there?
07:02But then I realized it was just him talking to himself.
07:06Yeah, I mean, it was a little muffled.
07:07It was through the wall.
07:08But I did hear like the numbers.
07:09I heard him saying all the different numbers.
07:10I heard him saying lines almost like he was like talking to Jeff or something.
07:15And, you know, so he was rearing to go.
07:17I mean, this stuff means a lot to him.
07:19And that's fine for me.
07:21It's more of a hobby.
07:22For me, it's more of just a really fun, cool thing I get to do.
07:25And I played really light.
07:26I played really joyous.
07:28It didn't get me far, unfortunately.
07:29But I don't think there was a really different strategy I could have approached it as.
07:33I think I had to do what I did in order just to try to survive to the merge.
07:36I think if I had hit the merge, I could have really, really forced some great relationships
07:41that would have helped me get far in the game.
07:44What was it like playing with Emily?
07:46Because I thought you guys would really mesh well together.
07:48Yay!
07:48Do you think it was just her loyalty to Christian?
07:51You couldn't overcome that?
07:52I don't know what it was.
07:53You know, I don't know what it was.
07:54But Emily and I gelled really well.
07:56And actually, she is the reason I voted for Stephanie.
07:58It wasn't Christian at all.
08:01Basically, what happened there quickly was that my first plan of attack was to get
08:06Ozzy and Emily to vote or Ozzy and Stephanie to vote out Christian with me because I was
08:10like, oh, Ozzy's pissed at Christian.
08:12Let me strike while the iron's hot, literally.
08:16And I tried to get him to vote out Christian with me.
08:19He claimed that he was down, but I could tell he wasn't down because Ozzy is pretty transparent.
08:23And so I was like, okay, that doesn't have legs.
08:26So then I moved on to what my options were with Christian and Emily.
08:32And look, I was upset with Christian.
08:34Like that night that he voted Mike out, I did not want to talk to him.
08:37I said, I need a second.
08:38I need a night.
08:38Let's talk tomorrow.
08:39And he still kept trying to talk.
08:42And the thing that Ozzy and I were trying to tell him is like, you can't logic your way
08:44out of everything, right?
08:46Like this is an emotional game.
08:47Life is emotional.
08:48We're emotional creatures.
08:50But and then he was, oh gosh, he was trying to ask me questions.
08:53And I told him to stop doing his Socratic method.
08:55I was like, I'm not in your classroom.
08:57Stop asking me questions.
08:58That would annoy the hell out of me too.
08:59I got it.
08:59Oh, I literally told him.
09:00And then I told him, I said, America's going to hate you for taking out Mike.
09:02We all wanted to see him play.
09:04He's never going to play again.
09:06America's going to hate you.
09:07You did.
09:07You did not do the fans any favors.
09:09Okay.
09:09So I was mad and sad, mostly sad, mostly sad, a lot of tears.
09:15But anyway, so, so with the Emily Christian situation, you know, I was willing to kind
09:20of try to move forward in a way with Christian for the time being, because I was like, well,
09:25maybe Emily and I have some life in the game together.
09:27And she was so convincing.
09:29Like, we are not seeing the half of how strong Emily is as a player.
09:33And she, she, she had me convinced that she might vote with me, that there was a chance.
09:39Because basically I was weighing like shot in the dark versus like, believe Emily.
09:43And she was just like, I'd rather take my chance with Emily, because if I played my
09:47shot in the dark, and in the off chance that Emily was actually with me, then it would
09:51be like showing her that I don't trust her.
09:53And I was like, and I didn't have anyone else in the game.
09:55So I was like, I'll take a, I'll take a roll the dice on Emily versus a roll the
09:58dice on shot in the dark.
10:00Damn, Emily flipping.
10:01She's good.
10:02TV flipping.
10:03Yeah.
10:04You know, no, she was fun.
10:05She's a, she's a fun player.
10:06I'm glad we got the chance to interact for a few days.
10:08And just as we wrap up here, you know, I know you said in some of your other interviews,
10:11how you felt about your edit and stuff and just kind of overall, did it take the love
10:15a little bit out of Survivor that you have as both a player, as a fan, just based on
10:19the way the edit's gone this season, both for you, but also for the women overall on
10:23the cast.
10:23Not for the game itself, but for the editing team, I think that they can do a lot better.
10:29I think they pay a lot of lip service to diversity and to inclusion and to empowering
10:35voices and women.
10:36And I think they're doing a really poor job this season so far of displaying female
10:42stories and telling female stories.
10:44And part of the reason that I chose to go back is because I felt in the forties that
10:47they had turned a corner.
10:48I felt that they were treating stories with care in a way that they hadn't previously
10:54watching season 50.
10:55I feel like we've, we've gone backwards.
10:57Like we we've slipped back.
10:58Like we, you know, where's Tiffany, where's Camilla, where's D where's Chrissy.
11:03Why is everything we see about Chrissy negative?
11:05Why is everything we see about me negative?
11:06Like it is very like to, I mean, I could get really philosophical about this.
11:12I know we don't have a lot of time, but I feel like with their reach, with their show,
11:17they can either be a reflection of society.
11:20They can push society or they can just feed the beast.
11:24And by feed the beast, I mean, pander to our worst traits.
11:28And that's what I feel like they're doing this time around.
11:30I hope they turn it around.
11:32I know they're still editing the season.
11:33So I, I've been telling folks that I've gotten to talk to today that I think they need to
11:38do better.
11:38And I think a lot of the women on the season feel the same way and they're ready to speak
11:41up as well.
11:42I think the way that change happens is for people like you and the way that you just
11:46said that, because it's easy to tweet about it, but I think for you going more publicly
11:50out there and talking about it.
11:52So as a man, even so, I appreciate you saying that because I do think everyone is deserved
11:55of their stories, especially with 24 amazing all-stars.
11:58Thank you for being an ally.
12:00Thanks, Angelina.
12:01You were a pleasure and I think you should play a third time, but I know the very complete
12:07life.
12:07I know we all know that from, you know, I mean, I, and I'm a boring queen now, so we'll
12:11see.
12:13Mina, there ain't no boring attached to you ever.
12:15Come on now.
12:17Have a great one.
