00:00Text coming in. Phone calls. 248-539-9797. Good morning. Baseball is back today. Jim Costa, John Jansen, Heather Park,
00:08Gov and Greg behind the glass. Two Grand Slam at $7.25. A chance to win up to $2,000.
00:14Dear John735, advice from John Jansen. By the way, you want some, um, I would love a teaser. Some teasers.
00:23It's in the stack of papers here. Hiring family.
00:27Ooh. Paying for the wedding. And pen pals. And by the way, people have started writing in Dear John Jansen,
00:34like your full name. Uh-huh. Yeah. Mom, stop. 735. We'll get to it. You asked a question about, um,
00:44go out and buy a McGonagall jersey. Yeah. Is he going to be the most popular tiger this season? Knowing
00:50that Scoobles popularity has taken a hit. It's a way of doing the old campaign. Who's your tiger? But do
00:55you think McGonagall
00:56ends up being most people's tiger? Um, you're a Dingler guy. I am a Dylan Dingler guy. And when we
01:04had the Evan Petzold lineup yesterday, it kind of takes me back to asking AJ. Because I think Dylan Dingler,
01:11most times last year, was right in that seven spot. He, uh, had him, Petzold had him in the sixth
01:18spot. So he's moving up. Moving on up. One of the more reliable bats.
01:23And especially for the catcher position. Yeah. And so I'm curious as to, I am curious to see the lineup
01:29today. Where's AJ going to have everyone as our first introduction to, to this year's tiger season. Look, I mean,
01:38Dingler hit what? 280 a year ago. Yeah. And, uh, he had the big home run in that. Yeah. I
01:45expect the power to go up. I expect the gold Glover. Yeah. Look, it's AJ. I'll gush about him. He
01:51loves talking about a catcher. Yeah. And, uh,
01:52you know, look, I think it's, it's all going to be matchup dependent on like where he bats. I know
01:57when we, we asked him about moving him up, like maybe he's going to move down. Where would you put
02:01him? But he does. He did hit lefties extremely well. So maybe it's one of these deals where, Hey, against
02:06the lefty. Yeah. If torque's not hitting as well, I mean, reward the guy who's swinging a hot bat. Yeah.
02:12I do wonder how much more he plays this year. Uh, he did not qualify for batting average last year.
02:19Cause he didn't play enough games. Yeah.
02:20He was super close, but he was not the Tigers leading batter by average because of that. Oh, I think
02:27he's going to what two out of every three. Yeah. I don't know how they manage catchers. Like Cal rally
02:34was not behind the plate every time, but he was in the lineup every time. So if he's not, I
02:40would expect that he would be, if he, if he's not behind the plate, if it's Jake Rogers, then Dylan
02:46Dingler would be in contention for that DH. Like how about this?
02:49Dingler against lefties last season? He had three 30 with a nine 60 OPS. You've ever right to ask, like,
02:56should that guy be hitting in the top four or five of the lineup against lefties? Yes. Um, and again,
03:01we think that there's more there. And I think they feel like there's more there. Who's your tiger? Two, four,
03:07eight, five, three, nine, 97, 97. I bet you McGonagall sevens are all over the ballpark by July.
03:15Well, I am partial to the number seven. I prefer two of them, but I think it's a Jersey that
03:20it's baseball numbers are weird. Right. And we talked about Kenley Jensen being 74. Like whose favorite number is 74.
03:28There's a lot of people that their, their favorite number. If you just ask them outside of sports, like what's
03:32your favorite number? Lucky number seven. Yeah. Seven. So I think there'll be a lot of, and, and throw on
03:37top of that, the juice of coming into the season as, Hey, not playing triple a,
03:41there's going to be a lot of people that say, you know, McGonagall is my tiger this year because it's
03:47new. It's fresh. Yeah. Randy and Westland. You're on 97. One. Good morning, Randy.
03:53Morning guys. Uh, love the show and everything. Just wanted to say that real quick. Thanks. Thank you. I think
03:58that, uh, I, I agree with what's already been said. I think that, uh, Dylan Dingler, that's my tiger. I
04:06really think he's going to have a breakout year. It's just, just a gut feeling and stuff.
04:11Um, I'm kind of an older gentleman. I'm 61. And, uh, I remember the 84 tigers, of course. Um, I
04:20think I'm not comparing Dylan Dingler in any way to Lance Parish, but I, this is the first time.
04:27It's just a gut feeling. I felt it all along since we drafted him. This, this kid is the most
04:34exciting catching prospect that we've homegrown since Lance Parish, you know?
04:40Yeah. And that's just, just the way I feel.
04:42They've done a great job with the homegrown guys under, under Harris. You know what I mean? For a while
04:46we were complaining and bitching about, you know, free agent moves, but they have a lot of, they may play
04:50an all homegrown lineup this season, which feels crazy to say.
04:54Cause for years we were, you know, Randy, for years we're going to have no, no homegrown position players of
04:59note.
05:00I mean, for example, it's only been a couple of years ago that I was struggling, struggling to try to
05:06pick, figure out who is our core.
05:09Right. We were doing those topics.
05:11All of a sudden this, this team, I'm sure they're going to go through some ups and downs a little
05:16bit, but this team I'm really excited about. I really am.
05:20Yeah. Well, thanks. We got the right manager. I wanted to say that. Yeah. Oh, we like AJ. There's no
05:25doubt. He's taken this team pretty damn far, given some of the limitations with the roster. And now as these
05:29guys come into their own, I mean, get to that next year, which is what Chris, you want to talk
05:33about the expectations for the season. Chris, you're on 97.1.
05:37Hey, how are you doing guys? Hey, John, go blue and a best of luck to Jack, uh, this baseball
05:41season. Thank you. Thank you.
05:44Hey, my main thing guys is you got to take the next step. It's got to be a ALCS or
05:49bust. Um, and then anything above that outstanding. But my thing is this is, do we have enough hitting right
05:58now to hold us in place until the trade deadline?
06:02And then we go out and get a big bopper or two, because there's not going to be a baseball
06:07in 2027. Why not throw your chips in the middle of the table and go for it? And also with
06:15Javi Baez, we're still paying him all this money. I know nobody wants them, but you're paying this guy to
06:22be a bench player.
06:24I mean, that's, that's, that, that, that just bothers me a lot. And also, uh, Riley green, he has to
06:33cut down on his strikeouts and he knows this, this, this offensive, um, team to be, to be better. I
06:40think we're going to be totally fine in pitching.
06:42I mean, like the one caller said, Job, he's coming back here soon. And then you have, um, Melton, he'll
06:48be back in June. I mean, pitching is just, is not going to be our problem. It's putting the ball
06:54in play, driving in runs and not leaving runners on base. Period.
06:58So Job, just to quick clarify, it's maybe in September, right? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But you're, you're right to focus
07:05on what are they going to get offensively? We know what Federer's done with these arms and they got a
07:09couple of guys at the top of the rotation that you can count on.
07:11From an offensive standpoint, that is one of the big questions. He said, can they do enough to get to
07:16August? Like in this division? Yeah, absolutely. Look, I mean, if you pitch well, momentum is always as good as
07:23the next day starting pitcher. That's a Leland ism. And then you have a three headed monster at the back
07:28end of the bullpen to help clean up some messes and put out some fires in this division. They should
07:33go on some wind streaks, limit some losing streaks, be in a position to do something. Yeah. I think something
07:38just, if you're looking for fortune and he brought
07:41up melting, cause I think, I think thinking getting something from Job this year is a pipe dream. He might.
07:46Okay. Right. Yeah. There's, there's, there's, there's always, this could be hanging over when we get to August and September,
07:51are we going to see Jackson Job?
07:53But if you can get the fortune and this is just the baseball gods that your staff stays relatively intact
07:58the first two months of the season, cause you're going to have injuries to the staff.
08:03You're going to have guys go on the IL and just the timing of that, you know, if Melton's then
08:07available, I mean, even got to trust the Montero.
08:10He has helped this team the last couple of years. So, but you don't want to can routinely trust him.
08:17No. And it's, it's, can you get through those first two months? And then it's Melton, but it's also, I
08:22mean, 60 days for Reese Olsen.
08:25Oh, I know. Is he up for the year? He's done. He's done for the year. My, my, my, yeah.
08:29Okay. Sorry. But I missed that one.
08:31That's the thing, man. Arms are fragile. You've got them. It's why you add as many of them as you
08:34can.
08:36Some texts coming in guys, in terms of jerseys, how many people have a JV Jersey tucked in the back
08:40of the closet ready to dust off?
08:42Oh, there's going to be a ton of them. Um, and it's, we mentioned that yesterday. I said, when we,
08:48when you asked the question, who's going to be the number one selling Jersey?
08:50And it may be McGonagall because no one has a McGonagall Jersey, right? People have JV Jersey. People have JV
08:57jerseys, but it's been such a long time.
09:00If you're dusting off that JV Jersey, do you want one of the new ones? Does it still fit? You
09:06want to get the orange one? Yeah. Does it still fit? That's a funny way to look at it.
09:09I mean, Hey, you know what? It's not all, not a lot of people are in the same size that
09:15they were 10, 12, 13 years ago. And those individuals may also want one for their kids. Now that's a
09:22really good point to this Texas Verlander will be the most popular tiger. It won't be close.
09:26That's Brad and Chesterfield Texas that they ordered a custom McGonagall Jersey with 85 on it. Will in St. Claire.
09:33That's what he wore in spring training.
09:36Can we please adopt the nickname Camo for McGonagall? His name is too awkward to say. I don't think it's
09:43awkward to say McGonagall. No, I, I, I, it's way. I would prefer McGonagall than some of the nicknames I've
09:49seen floated out there.
09:51Camo. I've seen Magoo. Magoo. Magoo. Magoo. K-Mac. K-Mac's another one. Yeah. K-Mac seems much more plausible
10:01than, but just McGonagall.
10:03McGonagall. K-Mo is like SEMO. Right. For obvious reasons, you might want to avoid that. Colt, Keith needs to
10:10hit. Green needs less strikeouts.
10:12Those are two huge keys for the Tigers offense. I agree. I mean, and Green has talked about it.
10:16Last year, it was not good to hear him say, who cares about the strikeouts? And now he's saying, I
10:21care about the strikeouts. Right.
10:24My tiger has to be Kerry Bonds. Clutch in big moments. He showed it last year. If he can hit
10:28left-handed pitching, there's even more for him. He is my tiger.
10:32Dylan freaking Dingler is my tiger. Lance and Marine City. Productive catchers who hit are the coolest.
10:39I'll be looking for a number seven orange jersey next Friday at opening day. Signed, Roy. On the text.
10:48Oh, we have a little bit of negativity. Kansas City Royals will win the AL Central. Better hitting and comparable
10:53pitching. That's KJ.
10:55Scooble will win a World Series before the Tigers do. That's B.A. and Flint.
11:01My expectations. The Tigers will finish with more wins than the Red Wings finish with points. Signed, Jim Jansen and
11:07Clawson.
11:10So, real quick. Let's do some math. How many points for the Red Wings?
11:14They're at 84.
11:17Get them into the 90s, you'd think?
11:20Well, you would think.
11:22Yeah, I mean, even if they're not going to make it, damn. I mean, at least make it interesting.
11:2592.
11:25So, the Tigers win more than 92 games. You heard it from Jim Jansen.
11:29In Clawson. Hometown, baby. Go Trojans.
11:33And give the Tigers half a win for an extra inning loss.
11:38Could you imagine?
11:40Oh, really?
11:42With Manfred, I'd never put it past him.
11:44Let's do Heather's News and we'll do the two Grand Slam next, 97-1.
