00:00The Novo administration ordered the deportation of the director of the Ecuadorian Iranian
00:04Cultural Center, Sheikh Mohammed, a decision described by human rights organizations as
00:08a serious violation of due process.
00:10The deportation was based on a confidential report after Interior Minister John Weinberg
00:15stated on March 25th that there were international terrorist groups seeking to operate in the
00:19country.
00:20During a hearing in Quito, the academic's defense team complained of lacking access
00:24to specific charges, adding that by relying on a classified report, they were prevented
00:29from challenging the evidence and mounting a legitimate and transparent defense.
00:33Furthermore, organizations monitoring the case warned that the procedure sets a dangerous
00:37precedent arguing it violates constitutional guarantees and international treaties signed
00:42by Ecuador.
00:43In this context, Mohammed's defense team announced that it will appeal the decision and take the
00:47case to international forums if necessary.
