00:00And Cuba is making progress towards energy sovereignty by installing photovoltaic solar parks in the eastern part of the country.
00:07This has resulted in significant fuel savings and reduced the environmental impact on the island.
00:12The country saved 34,000 tons of diesel annually thanks to the installation of 150 megawatts of solar power in
00:19the province of Granma.
00:20This initiative represents savings of 19 million dollars in imports and prevents the emission of more than 117,000 tons
00:27of carbon dioxide.
00:28On days with high solar radiation, renewable energy covers up to 25 percent of local electricity demand, helping to mitigate
00:35power outages.
00:36The project, which addresses limitations in access to fuels, is supported by photovoltaic parks installed in key municipalities such as
00:43Bayamo, Niquero and Manzanillo.
