06:55So, KPD contacted the registered owner of the vehicle,
06:58wanted to pursue vehicle theft charges on both occupants of the vehicle.
07:02They cleared it with the DA, so they're both going to jail as co-defendants.

07:18They had multiple callers on 9-1-1 reporting that they've heard multiple gunshots in the area,
07:24that at least 20 rounds went off, sounded like an automatic weapon.

12:08We went into the house with the warrant to look for the firearms to be seized.
12:13This is the handful of firearms that were found, a couple of rifles.

12:19Based on what we're finding with impacts and where the shell casings are,
12:23he was standing by the door here firing this way into the neighbor's yard,
12:26sometimes through his fence, all the way it looks like towards an occupied building over there.

39:17driving revoked.
39:18Sounds like he had previous convictions.
39:20Also, he's on conditions of release from a prior felony,
39:23so it's an open case.
39:24He's getting released from court,
39:25so he has conditions that he has to abide by.
39:27One of those being to obey all state and federal laws,
39:31driving revoked criminally, not obeying that law,
39:34so he's going to be remanded on those charges,
39:37and he'll have a $1,000 bill,
39:39and he's going to get his vehicle towed.
39:41I don't think he was very happy with our public service today,
39:44but not everyone is, so it's OK.
40:01So today I'll be going to the governor's office.
40:04He's going to be presenting myself and another trooper
40:07with an award for saving lives.
40:10We're going to honor two people today.
40:12I'm immensely proud to recognize their outstanding bravery
40:16and these separate instances that saved the lives of two men.
40:19Two Alaskans are here today because of their efforts.
40:23A person was actively drowning in a lake.
40:27Pull up, and I can see a person out in the water fighting for their life.
40:32Without hesitation, Trooper Stevens removed his duty gear
40:36and spread it to the water's edge.

40:47And then you start thinking about this person being a Alaska State Trooper.
40:50It's my job to help and protect him.
40:53And I immediately just start swimming out to him.
40:57I'm exerting all of my energy to get us back.

41:01He was just in such bad shape that he wasn't able to really do anything.
41:06So I put him on his back, kept his head on the globe,
41:08and I got his back.
41:11Without Trooper Stevens' intervention, the team would have died.
41:14His actions exemplify valor, self-sacrifice,
41:17and the highest traditions of the Alaska State Troopers.
