00:23or are we, it's gonna be weird, I was recording with the Conscious Man 7 show the other day,
00:35and during it, that probably will air in April, maybe not till May, and we had a great long
00:45discussion, human nature was the main topic, however, and I've previously mentioned on
00:53X, I'm not a fan of X spaces, but Friday nights at 8, there's an ongoing human condition,
01:01and then a subtopic of that X space, that I'm usually too busy Friday nights to catch it,
01:10but I do try to catch it, at any rate, so the Conscious Man 7 show, we were talking about
01:18human condition and human nature, somehow, we landed up talking about, oh, Argonites was
01:28the sponsor for the show, so I held up my Argonite Pyramid, these are supposed to help, you know,
01:38electronics and everything everywhere, yes, they emit EMF fields, the Argonite structures,
01:47Pyramid or Amulet or whatever, whatever, whatever, whatever, which Conscious Man 7's involved in
01:57selling, are supposed to help with EMFs, I mean, it's an unnatural thing, we don't know the long-term
02:10effects on the human body, so blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, long story short, get to the point, Joe,
02:17so I held up my Argonite Pyramid, and I said, I don't know if these are snake oil or not,
02:26could tell I
02:26upset him a little, so I further went on to say, now, I cannot scientifically prove to you
02:35whether this works or not, what I did say then further is, I don't know if it's helping,
02:45but it sure isn't hurting, and if nothing else, I got a nice little neat little cool decoration,
02:53okay, so what, I haven't noticed any miraculous change in my health, so it's not hurting how much
03:09it's helping, I can't tell you, and anyway, I got a cool little decoration, if nothing else,
03:18so I have no problem that I spent the money on it, with my health conditions and everything,
03:26and being around the laptop and other electronics all the time, it can't hurt to have it,
03:37so, snake oil salesman, though, is the overall overriding topic of this very weird episode,
03:47the origin of snake oil salesman, back in the western expansion days of the US,
03:57cropped up these people selling potions and lotions that contained snake oil in them,
04:08so, yes, literally, they were snake oil salesman, now, stick with me,
04:20health discoveries over the years, including modern times, we have indeed discovered at times,
04:30some thing from a particular animal, whatever, in this case, we're talking snakes,
04:45can a snake and its oil help you in some regard, and the answer is yes, then and now,
04:59although modern synthetic pharmaceuticals have replaced all of that, the point, the history here,
05:10important to know, because again, health remedies, home remedies, especially, homeopathic,
05:18natural organic substances or things derived from nature, again,
05:24God created all these things, and they have a lot of benefits, even pot, as long as you,
05:36it's not the modern, high TCH content stuff, like pot from the 70s, today, weaker pot, yes,
05:48and the CBD oil, yes, there is medicinal value, if done correctly, in the right doses, for the right problems,
06:03pot itself, for anxiety and stress, can reduce that, yes, appetite,
06:13people with, what's the condition, anorexia, pot, can, yes, the right things, at the right time,
06:25for the right people, can induce hunger, so that they'll eat, we need them to eat, they need to put
06:34on weight,
06:35all of these things, all of these things, have proper medicinal value, the problem, of course, is,
06:43you've got people, with pot, you've got people who just want to sit around and get high all the time,
06:52and play video games, not have to work, oh my god, I got a condition, I gotta smoke pot all
06:58the time,
06:59no, it's an excuse, so putting that aside, back to snake oil, the reality of that history,
07:10in China, they discovered a particular Chinese snake, and that's the key here, a particular Chinese snake,
07:22the oils, you boil the snake, the oils, and the essences, and the whatever value from the snake,
07:32you scoop that up, you use that snake oil, I don't remember, I don't recall, I apologize,
07:40you might be able to Google this, cured, I don't know if I'm going to use that term,
07:46I'm not sure, I'm not sure if it cured anything, but it helped relieve symptoms for a particular
07:54condition, so the concept of snake oil as properly and legitimate medicinal value is sound, but it
08:10depends on the snake, depends on the snake, and it depends on what condition, the problem, and hence the term
08:18snake oil salesman, for a lot of western U.S. con artists, came to be, because these snake oil salesman
08:32out west, promising that the snake oil would cure, you know, headaches, rashes, whatever, the miracle
08:43cure was never a miracle, if I could say the word right, miracle cure for everything, nothing is ever
08:54a miracle cure for everything, so yes, if someone's promising, oh, this pill, or this thing,
09:02snake oil is going to cure everything for you, they're a con, they're a scammer, they're a liar,
09:11run away from them as fast as you can, back to the point, in China, a particular snake, the snake
09:19oil
09:19was legitimately used for a particular condition, and that's where they got the idea, some, I dare say,
09:30they may have legitimately thought they might help people trying to sell snake oil, the problem
09:39is none of them, none of them whatsoever, and where'd they get the idea, the Chinese built the railroads
09:48mainly, so they heard stories from the Chinese mainland about the snake oil miracle cure, not really,
09:59but believer of symptoms for a particular condition, so that's where they got the idea, the problem, none of them
10:07were importing the particular Chinese snake that actually helped whatever the condition was, and they weren't
10:18limiting selling the U.S. snake oil to people to that condition, they were promising it cured everything.
10:28Not true. Now, if they'd imported those snakes, and limited the sale of the snake oil to the actual formula
10:39used in China to relieve the actual condition it was being used for in China, that would have been okay,
10:49but they
10:50weren't importing those snakes, they weren't importing those snakes, they were using random U.S. native, native to U.S.
10:58snakes.
10:58Now, maybe the U.S. snakes, snake oil might help a particular condition, but there was no science, no study
11:10behind any of it to show it did or did not, and indeed a lot of them, the ones that
11:17were most
11:20in it just for the money, the cons, the scammers would indeed kill a snake, throw it in a pot,
11:33boil it, and then scoop up the stuff and put it in with other things, and sell the snake oil
11:43potion right then and there for as much as $20.
11:48$20 at that time, which I don't even know what the $20 in modern money would be, it would be
11:57a heck of a lot of money. So they were paying a lot for something that really wasn't going to
12:05help them, except for maybe it could work for something, but they were promised it would work for everything which
12:14was the first.
12:14The other issue is, what else was in that potion? It wasn't 100% pure snake oil they were being
12:22sold, there were other additives. Well, what were the other? One of the additives was, oh, I forget what it
12:30was, but something else from nature that was in there that would cause the skin to tingle.
12:38These people putting the snake oil potion on them, of course, all thought, well, it has to be doing something
12:49for me, I'm feeling the skin tingle.
12:53Well, that had nothing to do with the snake oil, it had to do with the other phony ingredient, the
13:01filler, to make it pretend to give a sensation to the user that something's happening, but nothing really good happening.
13:13Now, as an exfoliant, it was probably working great for that, it might help exfoliate the skin, because it indeed
13:22was causing it to tingle in your pores for it to open up, but that wasn't the point of it.
13:27So, to start to wrap this up, I don't want to go too much deeper into this.
13:33Yes, in China, it was used for a proper point and purpose, and indeed had real medicinal value.
13:43The fake knockoffs here might have had some value in some cases, but most of the time, it had no
13:54real value other than placebo effect, mental thought that, hey, this is helping me.
14:03There's always the potential of a placebo effect, because of the fillers causing sensations.
14:11To wrap it up, the point being, I lost my train of thought.
14:17I hate when this happens.
14:19This happened to me several times during the Conscious Man 7 show.
14:23I was like, can you ask that question again?
14:26I went off on a tangent, forgot the question, so I can answer your question.
14:31There are medicinal values for all things, generally, from nature, if we find the right and proper application for them.
14:41But, the point here being, that's where the term snake oil salesman, for anyone running a con, came from.
14:54So, I guess, consider this, really, I didn't think about it at the top,
14:59as a origin of language episode number four or five.
15:06Not my intent at the start, but since I had that discussion with the Conscious Man 7, I didn't go
15:14into this.
15:15Hopefully, his audience will catch this, and maybe I'll get another chance to talk with him again.

16:09Other times, a lot of medical breakthroughs are found on accident.
16:17I don't necessarily mean to go here, but let me tell my Coke joke.

16:26This goes back to 2006 when I created it.
16:30Guy walks into a bar, says to the bartender,
16:32I need a Coke with a Viagra in it.
16:35So the bartender looks at him funny, so the guy goes on to say,
16:39I need a really stiff drink.
16:42Ba-dum-pum.
16:44Okay, now why do I say that?
16:46Well, Rogaine was originally a heart medication, I believe, if I'm recalling that.
16:55But they found it can help cause hair growth.
16:58Well, at the right dose, the Rogaine you get, the 3% supply, isn't always enough to actually help the
17:09hair growth.
17:09But that was a side effect, they found, of the Rogaine drug.
17:15So they started then selling it and packaging it as a hair growth tonic.
17:24Other medicines have been, the Viagra, it's my understanding, I don't know, I have no idea, I don't have the
17:33drug, I don't take the drug, I've never gotten it, I've never really looked into it.
17:38But it's my understanding that also that was a drug being tested to solve problem X.
17:48And they discovered that it creates blood flow redirection to the particular male organ and help with erectile dysfunction.
18:03A happy accident.
18:05For those who use it, they would think that's a happy accident.
18:09So all kinds of things are being tested and tried all the time.
18:14Sometimes they work for what they think they will.
18:18Sometimes they don't work for anything.
18:21And other times they discover, well, it won't work for that.
18:24It won't work for X, but it'll work for Z.
18:29A major point of this episode.
18:33So this isn't just frivolous, oh, a dumb history lesson.
18:39It's an important lesson to understand.
18:44About the basis of our modern medicines.
