00:00This is more than beauty. This is survival. In the heart of Accra, a first-of-its-kind museum
00:07is putting shea butter on the global stage, showcasing products sourced from across Africa.
00:14For thousands of women, especially in northern Ghana, shea butter isn't just a product.
00:20It's income, it's independence, it's everything.
00:24Packed with vitamins A, E and F, shea butter is known worldwide for its healing and skincare benefits.
00:33But here, it's something deeper, a tradition passed down through generations. Now, that story has a home.
00:42Behind it all is cultural entrepreneur, Hamamat Muntia, turning heritage into a global movement.
00:51At home, shea butter was not just a cosmetic, it was medicine, and it still is. And so,
00:58seeing how the women make it, seeing how the world consumes it, it's only right that I created a place
01:05that could celebrate the hard work of women, because every product you see here was made by a woman.
01:14Step inside and it's hands-on. From picking and roasting to grinding and whipping, visitors
01:22experience every step that goes into the final product. This isn't just a museum, it's living history.
01:31So, everybody must come, because it doesn't only support the beauty industry, it supports our history.
01:38It's like you say, yes, let's keep our history alive. And I think it's very important for where we are
01:45going as Africans.
01:46And for visitors, the impact goes beyond skincare.
01:50I'm taking away lots of knowledge that I didn't have before. Not just from looking at the shea butter,
01:57but from the actual experience, seeing how it's been made from beginning to end. And so, I'm also taking away
02:05a certain level of empowerment, actually, knowing that these women have worked so, so hard and
02:13everything they're doing is living on and will continue to live on.
02:17Even global creators are taking notice. A visit from YouTube streamer Aisho Speed is helping bring
02:24international attention to this growing cultural hub. But for Hamamat, this is bigger than visibility.
02:32Having more girls, younger girls learn how to mix, how to massage and how to sell the products is very,
02:40very important for us. We want to be able to teach over a million girls how to sell and make
02:47their own
02:48money through these kinds of products that are all over Africa. So next time you see shea butter, think
02:55beyond skincare. Think tradition. Think resilience. Think of the women who turn shea fruit into women's gold.
03:10Think this is a pretty important group. Think optimist. 3
