00:00Hannah had a baby through a sperm donor.
00:03I came to the conclusion that having a child was more important to me than having a life partner.
00:10Hannah always wanted to be a mom. She had been looking for a partner for years.
00:15That's why she decided to become a single mom by choice.
00:18Like, of course, I want a life partner, but I see that as a bonus.
00:23But having a child, I think a life without a child for me felt empty.
00:28Single women have access to sperm donation within Sweden's health care system.
00:32Those who conceive via sperm donation are recognized as legal parents.
00:37Hannah says she'll be honest with her son about how he was conceived,
00:41even if he asks later why he had to grow up without a father.
00:45What I'm going to say to him is that if I hadn't chosen to do this, then there would be
00:49no you.
00:50There might be another child, but it wouldn't be you.
00:52Hannah acknowledges the difficulties of building a family alone.
00:56But she's convinced that her son will have everything he needs.
01:00A child needs people in their life that they feel loved them unconditionally and that they feel safe with.
01:06But it doesn't have to be a biological father.
01:11A child needs an adult.
01:12A child needs a child needs a child.
