Is a degree enough to find a good job in 2026? Or are AI agents the favorite new "junior employee"? And: What can you do to keep up?
Transcript
00:00More than 30% of all entry-level jobs for college graduates may be at risk over the
00:05next few years, at least according to this CEO who made headlines with this bold prediction.
00:10And Bill McDermott isn't just anyone. He previously led software giant SAP and is an
00:15influential voice in the tech scene. What's behind this prediction of entry-level jobs dying?
00:20Well, so-called AI agents can now perform many tasks that were previously done by us humans.
00:24AI's impact on the job market is global and it hits women and young educated professionals harder than others.
00:31So, whose job is in danger and what can you do to prepare?
00:35If you're thinking, ChatGPT can't replace me at my job, think again.
00:40Because we aren't talking about chatbots anymore, we're talking about AI agents.
00:45A chatbot is like a smart librarian. You ask a question, it gives you an answer.
00:49An AI agent is more like a remote employee. It doesn't just talk,
00:53it can perform all sorts of tasks. Here's an example.
00:56Online retailer Shopify is setting up a whole system of them.
01:00AI shopping agents will help customers discover products, compare options and buy stuff.
01:06And they can interact with the company's own AI agents,
01:09which organize pricing or check inventories, without a human clicking a single button.
01:14But it's not just e-commerce. AI agents are replacing roles in coding,
01:19legal research, and market analysis. The grunt work that used to be the right of passage for
01:27every new hire is being automated away. So, what consequences are we already seeing?
01:33Let's be clear, a lot of AI doomsday headlines like this one are marketing.
01:38Remember that CEO? Well, he's also heavily advertising for his software at the moment,
01:43saying it can cut hiring costs and replace customer service roles.
01:46Nevertheless, this is definitely not just future talk.
01:50Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram,
01:52is reportedly planning to lay off 20% of its global staff due to mounting costs for AI.
01:58Tech companies want AI agents to handle tasks like ad spend optimization and content moderation
02:04at a fraction of the cost of humans. Investors are rewarding those moves.
02:08Meta's stock jumped after the reports.
02:10What can you do? So, is the career ladder gone? No.
02:15But the first step might look very different. To survive and thrive, you have to stop executing
02:20and start managing. AI agents can be extremely effective, but tests show they can make catastrophic
02:26decisions when interacting with other agents. That means, a human must stay in the loop.
02:31Here's how you make yourself that human. AI is only as good as the context it's given.
02:36You set the strategy and the why. Agents handle the how.
02:40AI lacks empathy, the ability to negotiate well, and ethics.
02:44Lean into the skills only humans bring to the table.
02:47And don't compete with the agent. Learn to manage them.
02:51Bottom line, the entry-level job is not dead, but it is about to change dramatically.
02:55You don't start as an intern, but as the manager of a thousand digital interns. So, prepare yourself.
03:01Have you worked with AI agents yet? What's your experience with them? Let us know.
