00:00So the war has been raging, but is it a popular war?
00:04Does it have support in America?
00:06Well, the United States President, Donald Trump, is facing a sharp dip in public approval
00:12as tensions in West Asia escalate and global fuel prices surge.
00:17Now, a recent poll conducted by Reuters and Ipsos shows his approval rating has fallen to 36%.
00:25Now, this is down from 40% just a week earlier.
00:30So that's a huge drop, a 4% drop in just a week.
00:36Now, the decline appears closely tied to rising living costs
00:40and widespread disapproval of the war launched against Iran.
00:44Public sentiment on economic management has weakened significantly
00:49with only 29% approving of Trump's handling of the economy.
00:53This is his lowest rating across both presidencies and below that of his predecessor, that is Joe Biden.
01:02Even more striking, just 25% of Americans expressed confidence in his approach to the cost of living.
01:09Support for US military action has also declined.
01:12Only 35% of respondents approve of the strikes on Iran, while 61% completely oppose these strikes that have
01:23been started on Iran.
01:26Now, let's try and decode this a little further.
01:30The approval ratings of Donald Trump as we are trying to show you in different months.
01:35So you can see a clear pattern of a fall from the month of January and you can see from
01:44last year to now, March, how it has fallen.
01:48A huge dip, clearly you can see.
01:51And even in the last week, there has been a dip from 40% to 36%.
01:55So clearly, this war is not popular and it is denting the president's image as well.
02:01Now, with the West Asia war entering a crucial phase, India's calibrated approach and consistent call for peace are resonating
02:10globally.
02:10For the first time since the conflict began on February 28th, Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a
02:17telephonic conversation.
02:18President Donald Trump reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the two leaders discussed the evolving situation in West
02:26Asia.
02:27During the call, Prime Minister Modi reiterated the need for de-escalation and stressed that peace must be restored at
02:35the earliest.
02:35The situation in the Strait of Hormuz also featured prominently with the Prime Minister underlining that an open and secure
02:43Hormuz is critical for global stability.
02:46Both leaders agreed to remain in touch and coordinate efforts aimed at restoring peace in the region.
02:53Now, U.S. Ambassador in India, Sergio Gore, while speaking to India today, gave a first-hand account of the
03:00phone call between Trump and Prime Minister Modi.
03:03He backed India's position on Hormuz, stating that no country should be allowed to hold such a critical maritime route
03:10hostage.
03:10Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S.J. Shankar met the Iranian ambassador, highlighting India's continued engagement with both Washington and Tehran.
03:21Now, the U.S. Ambassador to India hailed Trump and Prime Minister Modi's relationship while speaking to India today.
03:28Listen in.

03:38the Strait of Hormuz open.
03:40As you and your viewers know, the Strait of Hormuz is considered part of international waters.
03:46And so the United States maintains a position that nobody should be able to hold this area hostage.
03:53We fully support this area to be open.
03:57We want this area to be navigable.
04:00We want ships to go through so energy can go out, not just for India, but the rest of the
04:04world.
04:04And so tonight, the two leaders had a very productive call.
04:09President Trump not only considers Prime Minister Modi a dear friend, but India is a vital partner.
04:14And this was a very good call between the two leaders so the Prime Minister can be appraised of the
04:20latest efforts and what is going on on the ground.
